I actually like this, it forces less reckless plays, and you DO have to care about staying alive to make an impact for your squad/team.

The developers recently announced that :

Objectives upgrades will no longer be automatic based on time. They will upgrade based on dolyaks that reach them. Smaller groups can now prevent an objective from upgrading by preventing dolyaks from reaching that objective.

This is definitively a step in the right direction but it’s still missing : player involvement. The upgrade are still automatic and this is not a good thing. There need to be a part where the players do some interaction in order for the upgrade to start.

Some players have already suggested that someone need to talk to a NPC in order to start the upgrade but this is not enough. Talking to a NPC involve only 1 player while WvW is a group activity. We need something in which everyone around could participate.

My suggestion is to add an easy gathering event similar to the gathering events in EotM in order to start each tier of upgrade at an objective.

This would be quick, would enable everyone to participate, would bring back player involvement in the upgrade process, would give something to do to defender while they upgrade their BL and would also give them easy reward.

The sad truth about WvW is that WvWer’s tend not to buy gems to get shiny skins.

A lot of the best WvWer’s out there run in outrageously ugly armor combinations, they never have a mini running after them and they do not show any signs of having wasted gems to buy any item at BLTP.

WvWer’s are more interested in the game mechanics than in the game aesthetics. So, they tend to be a group that brings little revenue to ANet.

That is why ANet invests all its resources to lure PvEr’s into the gem addiction leaving WvWer’s out in the cold.

Imho, WvW is the only part of this game that can be played without an end, is never boring and can really make people flock to guilds and make them grow to huge numbers. All other content is not good as WvW for GW2 future.

What ANet needs to do is improving WvW with the tons of feedback they have from players and, at same time, think about a way of increasing the need for WvWer’s to use the gem shop.

From the top of my head I can give ANet 2 suggestions:

1. Create different types of commander tags, with different prices. People pay several thousand gold for simple skins, why not paying several thousand gold for really useful commander tags with great large group management, messaging and tactical commands features?

Leave the existing Commanders tag as it is and create 2 lower level tags and 2 higher level tags. Maybe a Raider’s tag to command a group of 10 max, costing 100 gold. Then a Mercenary tag for groups of 20, costing 200 gold.

The 2 top tags could be a General tag to command groups of 70, costing 1000 gold and finally a Marshall tag to command groups of 100 players with a feature to directly draw tactical arrows on the mini-map for visual orders for the whole group, costing 2000 gold.

2. Create special outfits/weapon skins for WvW only, with useful features for the buyers but not game breaking pay-to-win features. Something like handy features to have in your group like Combat Repairs skin (armor repair for the whole group every 30 minutes), Combat Quartermaster skin (food buffs for the whole group every 30 minutes), Combat Bank skin (creates every 30 minutes a bank npc for the whole group), Combat Trader skin (creates every 30 minutes a BLTC npc for the whole group), etc.

Concerning weapon, ANEt can make special WvW weapon skins that identifies immediately a player WvW masteries like Trebuchet mastery, Shield Generator mastery, Siege Golem mastery, Ram mastery, etc.

This is just the begining, a lot more cool ideas can be added.

WvWer’s will only buy gems to get gold if they find beautiful and USEFUL items for WvW at gem shop. Come on ANet, put your minions at work.

Any kind of gathering event would favor the zerg and tbh, be just plain annoying.

Talking to an NPC would most definetly enough.

The group effort is after the ordering of the upgrade, getting the actual dollys safely into the keep. That’s your “event” and everyone can participate (and enemies can try to interrupt it, so literally everyone).

Many people raised concerns with the guild cata nerf so I do appreciate this change.

Not to mention it wasnt just the guild catas, with an extra tier of fortification and much more defensible doors on keeps, it means that there is a heavy shift toward ranged siege to take stuff. Ie catas. Them being expensive slows down the pace of gameplay across the board. And its already painfully slow when no one want to play on the borders.

Befor the HoT release, there was betatesting of the new WvW maps, with some dedicated WvW Guilds. most of there feedback showed, that there will be problems with the new maps. Did Anet listen? Most of us are way past giving feedback.
im with conner here, there was nothing released, so why all the merrits? this thread is a testament to how badly anet threaths the wvw community and how desperate we’ve become, that we are 8 pages of joyous over tablescraps.

Before the holiday season is fully upon us we wanted to give you all a sneak peek of some changes that are coming to WvW. Before we jump into the changes, we just want to make it very clear that the changes you’ll read about below are not a part of the big World vs World update that we’ve previously mentioned. This update is the first of what we hope are more regular updates to the existing core of World vs. World. We are looking forward to sharing the details of the bigger World vs World project with you in the future, but we’re not quite ready yet.

And now for that sneak peek:

  • Objectives upgrades will no longer be automatic based on time. They will upgrade based on dolyaks that reach them. Smaller groups can now prevent an objective from upgrading by preventing dolyaks from reaching that objective.
  • Supply cost for all catapults are being reduced by ten supply. The layout of the Desert Borderlands map has increased the number of catapults required to take some objectives. We agree with your feedback that also increasing the cost of catapults pushed the balance too far towards defense so we are tuning that more towards offense.
  • Points per kill will be turned on and kept on. This is to more directly recognize the contribution that fighting other players adds to the success of the world.
  • The number of players who can rally off a single kill has been reduced from five to one. Players will also no longer be able to revive defeated players while in combat. You still will be able to revive downed players while in combat. Both of these changes are designed to help fights resolve and to give smaller, more skilled groups a better chance against larger groups.

Please let us know what you think of these changes. We’re going to hold off on picking a release date until we have a chance to review your feedback, but we’d like to target early 2016. So please add your feedback about these proposals to this thread.

We also wanted to express our thanks to Reyana and the commanders she has been talking with in her World vs World Commander Interview series. Reyana is a dedicated member of the WvW community and a WvW streamer. She has brought together a diverse group of community leaders to constructively share different perspectives on how they play with their guilds, and our team has taken a lot of the commanders’ feedback to heart. These are all good changes, asked for a very long time, but I do have 1 area of concern.

On hard rezzing dead players, why not just make it similar to the rally mechanics ? So that a dead player can be rezzed by only a single player if the rezzing players are in combat. The rezzing speed in combat is already reduced greatly and if you limit it to a single player that would indeed have almost the same effect but not entirely cut it off. It would be just enough to prevent things such as treb gas and general trolling, but would still accomplish its main goal which is keep a blob from mass speed rezzing themselves indefinetly.

In addition, the rezz change will negate a lot of peoples builds, traits, utilities, etc. Its kinda along same lines as if you were to completely eliminate all traits and abilities that grant regen or prot or any other thing which an organized group can focus on.

So while changes are absolutely needed and I love the rally mechanic change, I feel you should take same more balanced approach to reviving, instead of entirely eliminating it. Go with a more balanced solution instead of such extreme.

Thanks for this update. I think it means a great deal to the community to be given this heads up and letting us know that you guys are listening and working on WvW.

My personal feedback:

Auto upgrade change. Great! Never should have been released to begin with. You were made aware of this issue in beta.

Cata change. Makes little sense. Just make guild catas cost half of regular catas: 30 supply. This is obviously to try to help the smaller groups out there, which it would and is good. But the reason why catas cost more is because it’s siege that has more options. As such, it should be more expensive than rams. The guild cata change gave us no reason to ever make one when we can buy superior with tokens, off the market, or just make them relatively cheaply. I do realize you were tying to make them less powerful, but they do cost a heck of a lot more to make / buy. When I command small ops stuff, even if it’s only a couple people, I almost never used them because I’m cheap. However, considering how far supply depots are to objectives, that would change. The price would go up and people would have to face the hard decision on whether to use one or not.

PPK. Great. I’d rather have PPK than nothing, but I STRONGLY urge you to look at PPS (points per stomp). PPK incentivises blobbing. Just try to get as many people as possible and mow down anyone you come across. This encourages brainless gameplay as they will be rewarded for doing very little. PPS introduces a tactic in battle that needs to be adddressed. Something that enriches the gameplay even more is a good thing. This way, if a blob does run over a small group, they aren’t rewarded for it, as they usually have so much dps, that the enemy melts and stomps cant be had. It also is a good thing for Anet, as it puts value on finishers and will help gem store sales.

1:1 Rally system. Great! Never understood the existing mechanic. Totally unfair.

No in combat ressing of dead people. I’m against this. If you’re in combat, and ressing, you’re risking getting killed yourself or not with the commander attacking, unless the commander brings the group to res. If that does happen, then it gives the enemy a perfect opportunity to strike. It’s just one more thing that takes away combat options, and certain player roles, which I’m never for. Also, considering that if the battle is shifted slightly away, then people can res the dead players if need be, so it almost makes this change an inconvenience rather than trying to fix something that really wasn’t broken to begin with. It also encourages blobbing and will shift the meta towards dps. It will also completely eliminate certain traits, which some people do use. Pin sniping is also a big concern. Changing the rally system is way more important than this. This is a change that I don’t think people have been asking for and only dumbs down gameplay.

No matter what, most these changes are good things that the community has asked for, some of which for 3 years. Again, please consider changing PPK to PPS. Please implement them asap.

Other things that will be super easy to change that need to also be done quickly:

*Bring reset back to Friday.
*Change the waypoint system so that the northern team can use the waypoints on the side keeps (I may be out of date on this).
*Make it so enemies can’t res keep lords, or if you are staunchly against this, then make it so it’s just as hard to res them as it is to kill them. If we can’t res allies in combat, then a lord should count towards this.
*Get rid of all servers and create 9 new ones to consolidate into in order to fix population.

The rest are more difficult to implement, but if you’re reading the forums, you’re well aware of them.

Here’s my feedback. The ANet proposal is numbered and the related feedback follows it and is labeled as such.

Feedback: There also needs to be a switch that allows players to upgrade the objective to the next stage after x dolyaks have entered it. Remember that this change is intended to encourage more player involvement in the state of objectives across WvW. If it still upgrades automatically then at the lower tiers WvW players will still have to endure the situation where all of their objectives AUTOMATICALLY upgrade without any involvement or genuine effort on the part of their opponents. The net end result is that those servers who have the latest runners profit the most because they hold objectives longer (because it takes the opponents longer to flip them back) without investing any effort to make it so they can receive these benefits.

2. Supply cost for all catapults are being reduced by ten supply. The layout of the Desert Borderlands map has increased the number of catapults required to take some objectives. We agree with your feedback that also increasing the cost of catapults pushed the balance too far towards defense so we are tuning that more towards offense.

Feedback: Good changes that help the smaller groups but unfortunately also will increase how quickly larger groups can take objectives. Perhaps catapult siege caps could be used to prevent power creep from larger groups armed with catapults.

3. Points per kill will be turned on and kept on. This is to more directly recognize the contribution that fighting other players adds to the success of the world.

Feedback: Necessary. The PPT era is more or less on it’s way out in the NA time zone for NA servers. That’s not to say that PPT groups do not exist, they certainly do. When towers and keeps are taken, it is most likely in order to force fights. The players who are interested in fights (roamers, zerg busters, etc, etc) can now contribute to their server’s score at the end of the week, just like the groups who are interested in capping every objective on the maps.

Why stop there? Implement Weekly personal kill rewards and Guild PPK rewards for xp / items boosters and transmutation charges and guild commendations / rares / exotic gear respectively. As a result PPK groups get rewards, are encouraged to always come out and the server benefits for having more consistent player populations.

Drop special tokens for player kills that grant access to WvW only ascended back pieces, weapon and armor recipes that use items that can be attained from PvP related WvW activities. They should have different skins related to the mists and give the same range of stats currently available in the game. This would enable WvW fighters to get better gear while doing what the like to do and encourage them to keep coming out.

My last point doesn’t mean that every single type of loot now has to be added to the Player/Mob Kill Drop Table. Add a few based logically on what we can do now and then add Reward Tracks that give you access to the newer content and supplements what we already have.

4. The number of players who can rally off a single kill has been reduced from five to one. Players will also no longer be able to revive defeated players while in combat. You still will be able to revive downed players while in combat. Both of these changes are designed to help fights resolve and to give smaller, more skilled groups a better chance against larger groups.

Feedback: This is essential. A lot of smaller groups lose because ten to fifteen people who were just in combat with them tardy back and constantly resurrect downed foes until eventually they overwhelm with sheer numbers and turn the battle. They also lose in fights where you down 10 opponents and the smaller group loses two. Smaller groups in theory can not out DPS larger groups and so the smaller tends to lose the ensuing DPS race for the rally. As a result it is currently a challenge to begin to win these fights as the opponent knows that they can just keep throwing and piling bodies on top of a smaller group and they will eventually win by attrition alone.

What is also essential will be to make sure that ground indicators for skills such as Revenant CoR (Hammer #2), Guardian Longbow #5 (the greatest offenders at the moment), Necromancer wells, Elementalist Meteor showers and all other AoE skills all exhibit and communicate clear and consistent visual indicators. Reducing visual noise is certainly important in 15vs15 and larger fights however consistent indications must be given to players as to what is happening. Perhaps overlay opponent AoE skills with shaded circles AS WELL AS tinting their skills a color that enables color blind players to also acknowledge that the skill hovering above them definitely isn’t one that was casted by an ally.

Results: Overall I feel like these steps are in fact steps in the right direction. Do not sit too long on these ideas however and don’t be afraid to speak to players via the front page of your website. Similarly to how you are advertising PvP and PvE (HoT) content be willing to also advertise WvW as well when the changes are being implemented.

I did not end up in WvW because this game was crystal clear about the game mode. In fact I pressed buttons by mistake and I decided to try it out. I loved it and while at the moment I am forced to play PvE in order to get anything of substance to use in WvW I still feel like the game mode doesn’t have ANY visibility to the average player in GW2.

a long long time ago in a galaxy far far away there was a thing called CDI. over months wvw players made suggestions and gave feedback. lock at what we got. Befor the HoT release, there was betatesting of the new WvW maps, with some dedicated WvW Guilds. most of there feedback showed, that there will be problems with the new maps. Did Anet listen? Most of us are way past giving feedback.
im with conner here, there was nothing released, so why all the merrits? this thread is a testament to how badly anet threaths the wvw community and how desperate we’ve become, that we are 8 pages of joyous over tablescraps.

Not only this but they have been working on an overhaul for a year from what I heard with no feedback what so ever on this overhaul? Might want to get some feedback on your big overhaul before you work too much into it and it becomes too late to change in the end. ::cough:: new bls ::cough::

I do like these changes, but I would also like to see the stability changes to be reversed, or see changes in keep/tower lords ability to spam CC. I run small group tactics. (Yes I play PPT for my server.) Unlike the fight guilds who have a large number of players that can face tank and melt the lords we have to play more stealth like and careful. However far too often unless a specific player/class is available the lords ability to spam CC’s is just too much to deal with. I miss the ability to Ninja a tower or keep with 2-3 people….

Just my 2 cents.

Interesting, even if I’m not sure about “Supply cost for all catapults are being reduced by ten supply”. We should not forget that the biggest guilds just begin to be able to give “at will” the “+10” (yes…+10 not only +5 if you look carefully) supply bonus to the structure they control…but we will see.

An old issue to address is the balance between servers due to their difference of population…especially during night.

Perhaps one simple way to resolve that issue could be to link the amount of points a server wins to its population really present on the 4 wcw maps at the moment of the calculation.

In such a system, we could imagine that only the less populated server should be able to mark 100% of the points for a structure it controls (and…why not…for a player kill).The two other servers could mark an amount of points inversely proportional to the delta between their population and the weakest at the moment of the calculation.

The calculation should be done considering the 4 maps and in real time or, if it’s technically too difficult to implement, for the next 15 minutes just before “the tic”.

As an example if a server has its population present on the maps representing 140% of the less populated server at the same moment, it should be able to mark…60% of the available points.

The ratio I propose are simple ones. Perhaps they should be mitigated by things as a floor value (as an exemple no points for anyone as long the 3 servers have less than 5 players each on the maps)
But regardless of the system chosen to address that issue, it should remain simple.

Hey, nice to hear your ideas, but I’m not sure how they would help fix the problem of server imbalance though. If a server has much better coverage than the other servers in its tier, that suggests that it doesn’t belong in that tier anymore, so the faster it can move up the better for everyone. By reducing or eliminating the points a server can get during off hours it would result in more static server match ups, as servers that gain improved coverage would be unable to use this advantage to move up the rankings. As someone who has played on both sides of one sided match ups, I don’t think it’s fun for anyone, when you log on for the night and find you have nothing to do because your server controls fully upgraded everything on the map it gets old fast and being spawn camped by a larger group when on the losing side gets really disheartening for everyone, any action that could prolong this hell would need kitten good justification before it’s implemented. Match ups need to be more sensitive to off hour coverage, not less, so that all servers can be competitive against their opponents at any time of the day.

The no in combat rezing is not a bad ideal (it makes it so you cant have just a super size group become unkillable becuse ppl simply rez spam the down at all times) but there are effects when you rez ppl to crate effects that work well for combat so unless these are going to be changed i am not sure how this will work out.

Take their camps – that’s what I’m doing when they’re denying me my camps. Should be possible on EB alone, I think even with fully upgraded camps as you can use the moles, frogs and ogres.
Not really opposing your idea, I just think it’s not really neccessary.

I have to agree with the posters that are less than enthusiastic about the proposed changes. They’re laughable when you take into account what has happened to the wvw population. EBG generally will have a que in NA prime time, on the rest of the maps….crickets.

Honestly I feel that those that describe these changes as “amazing” are suckers. Sucked in by a minimal attempt at appeasing the wvw community as Anet has done time and time again.

As someone whose wvw guild melted into oblivion since HoT, there is nothing in these changes that will bring people back to the game. But, I’m guessing Anet has made a fortune from players that have transferred to higher population servers in the sad hope of finding their beloved wvw community alive…somewhere. In my opinion Anet owes all those that transferred since HoT a gem refund. They broke it and we pay for it.

Rally/revive mechanic changes: I like it in theory, but you’re going to need to do something to help frontline. Buff stability maybe?

Catapult changes: Many guilds are in the process of unlocking the +5 buff, so bear this in mind.

Point per stomp is in the game now, it was made baseline with HOT after the removal of bloodlust.

For the love of God can we please have this in PvE? I am sick of scrubs dying at Tequatl, Triple Trouble Wurm, Chak Gerrant, etc. and not waypointing. This would fix that problem instantly. The only reason people continue to do it is because they get ressed by other scrubs who don’t understand the law of “Dead WP”.

There is simply nothing about these changes that will bring back any WvW players that left WvW, due to HoT changes. They might have been interesting changes a year ago. Positive changes?…Maybe, maybe not. But, It’s akin to debating the extra point in football. Making the extra point automatic, might change the game slightly, but it’s not going to make people want to suddenly play the game again, after someone already turned the game into “arena touch football played in an amusement park with water balloons”.

IMHO, It’s absolutely nothing that is going to get players to suddenly start wanting to venture into the Deserted Boarder Lands. Nor, is it going to get the small guild players back, upset about losing their perks they had earned. Nor, will it bring back havoc squads. Nor…

If you want to know for sure. Simply put everything back to pre-HoT status for 2 weeks. Including former small guild influence, and benefits that were earned, and cheap to build guild catas, etc… Add these updates to that recipe, for 2 weeks, and the maps would be flooded, if not queued with former players, (that is, if they are even aware the changes were made, at this point).

The deserted boarder lands simply have to go, and be completely redesigned (in the background, offline), before anything meaningful can happen. Waiting until 2017 to admit that WvW has been killed off, and offering up penny ante changes in the mean time, to avoid admitting a mistake was made, is probably not a good idea. (Though we are glad, “something” is happening, it’s not nearly what is needed.)

Stand back and observe the view from the balcony: Without a strong WvW arena, opposing guilds have no reason to fight. Which, subsequently, invalidates guild halls. The few opposing guilds left, then hang out in halls, and get bored, and become friends, and maybe even merge guilds. And then they have to devise their own grassroots guild hall tournaments just to amuse themselves. Without a strong WvW, and former multitudes of guilds, both large and small, guild grudge matches wouldn’t even exist.

Therefore, strong PPK is an item that will likely further destroy WvW in a few ways. It will influence it to further become purely GvG, or large scale PvP. You are no longer playing for control of a map, and holding land. It can eventually become purely PPK for the win, and nothing else, and the game, as designed, is then truly dead. Face it, the fight guilds don’t want to take, or defend, a tower as it is. They are rapidly influencing the game into being a different game altogether. WvW is fundamentally about who owns the land (winning the war, PPT). GvG is about the last man standing (winning the battle, PPK). PPK is only about the last man standing (GvG). Is that the direction you want to further push WvW? A delicate balancing act, for sure, to combine the two, because we all really like our fights. A PPK change will inevitably push WvW closer to being purely a GvG tournament, and farther from WvW land ownership and PPT. When players only care about the PPK, then, why have towers at all? Just K-train the towers when they are not looking, and GvG the rest of the time. Siege is unwanted and unsportsmanlike altogether. …Isn’t that about where we are already at?

Tying guild halls directly to the ability to do all important things in WvW needs to be undone. A place to fight a GvG grudge match is fine. Enabling the few largest guild halls to control all WvW buffs, defenses, and upgrades, and direction, is not fine. (Thank you sir, may I please have permission to pull the lever?)

Concurrently, exclusively interviewing only these select guild commanders for these suggested changes needs to stop. It’s like asking the politicians what they want to do to take complete control of the world. The people are supposed to tell the representatives what they want them to do. Same goes here. Players should be the ultimate voice. Not, the hand selected leaders. That is, if you want true WvW, as designed, to survive. Or, do you just want big guild tournaments for guilds, that will ultimately have no reason to be enemies, without a WvW (land) to fight over, and hold claim to?

Rallying 1 for 1? No rezzing in combat? Could be added to the GvG combat rules and regulations for conclusive fights. Their affect on WvW land ownership? Probably nil. Affect on WvW popularity? Also, probably nil.

The need to feel the importance of fighting on all fronts, to keep that tower, with a way point, that was hard earned, that players built, and we care about, that we really don’t want to lose, is paramount. If a lot of people need staking in the process, that’s great! But the PPT needs to remain far more important than any PPK, and PPT needs to remain fun for all players, in order for WvW to survive IMO. PPK is clearly paramount for keeping score in GvG. …WvW? Not so sure its a good idea.

Too little, too slow, probably wrong direction, avoiding the real issues.

I like these added changes so I give Anet credit for that but:

PPK should bin there from start and its just mindblowing that it hasnt, when it is in PvP and if u look at old games with WvW it was a factor. Killing enemies should ALWAYS bin high priority and ofc rewarded as such. A Kill-Log Boook (like Dammaz Kron for WaR) is something Gw2 missed out on badly.

Oasis & Rock-Wall-Maze was an extremely bad idea and even worse in execution… the added Stealth-Mist isnt makeing it better either and the whole area surrounding the Oasis is what confuses ppl and throw them in a maze that most Guilds actually avoid NOT use. Its something that highly contributes to the hate towards the new borders and CLEARLY no communication has ever bin had with WvW community pre-hot regarding this.

I like the NPC scouts tagging ppl but it also took away something from the WvW community, alot of ppl find it enjoyable to scout for there side and thats hardly there now.

Collision detection should have bin part of the game, sry but running thro enemies arent as fun as acually haveing collisions. This is miss alot.

Changes aside its just a little to late atm, most I know gave up long time ago and Iam here still due to 1 thing only: the combat is really really good and fun. But even this wont keep me past CU Beta stage2 where I will leave this game for good so cant say that any changes u do now will make any diffrence to me and well my old friends and WvW Guildies have already left and started up in CU… same goes for basicly any big Guild that ever where a vital part of WvW in Gw2.

There we will get the focus we want and crave and all tho we still dont know how it will turn out I doubt any will return to this sinking ship. The changes u are makeing now is done for a community that has moved on already… they got tired of not being heard.
