I dunno, guess it’s helpful if you don’t have any ele’s on your side, or rather, was it needed to make their job any easier? … guess it can help in thwarting siege locations outside of keeps, but without repair costs a few suicide runs seem to do the trick more permanently?

Overpowered, for 45 seconds you cant use abilities on siege (except for golems)
After 45 seconds you’ll be able to use the skills again.
Golem takes 20 seconds before they can use skills again.
Aka throw 2 traps to both rams , get new supplies and throw again, rinse and repeat till the friendlies are there.
Besides, are we only getting these 2 new updates in the feature pack of wvw? (And ofcourse the colored commander tags?) Or do we get a big chunk like anet promised….?

I can’t really think of anything else they could say on Thurs. that would help.
“WvW Improvements” doesn’t include “Commandership Cashgrab”. Status symbol for PvE maps confirmed. It gets its own post because that will be a sales pitch for using them during Living Story events and world bosses.
At least ANet is always excited and remembers to tell us that everything they say is exciting!
RvR isn’t “endgame”, it’s the only game. Cu in CU.
Whoever designed the siege disabler doesn’t play WvW much. All the current counterplay to siege was perfectly fine with the sole exception of golem rushes.
If someone builds 6 arrow carts to cover the gate at hills they deserve for it to be a tough nut to crack. If someone builds 6 superior rams on a paper gate they deserve to get inside in 25 seconds.
The siege disabler will turn WvW into trebwars 2 since you can’t use rams on gates anymore.
I plan on buying these tricks up and showing why.

I plan on buying these tricks up and showing why.

It’s no different than trying to burn down a gate while people repair it.
You won’t get in until the castle/tower/keep is out of supply. Once you are out of supply you can’t throw anymore traps and the gate comes down.
With 10 supplies, you aren’t really repairing a gate that much. At least not 45 seconds worth of even 1 regular ram damages.
But I’m going to wait and see if this is a good idea or not. Some people are surely going to use and abuse them. It’s going to be funny for the first few weeks.
And I really hope this isn’t it…We’ve known about the golem mastery for what ? A year ? A blog post containing only those two things is really really small.

I think they will just talk about the reworked combat log. They won’t “announce” that tomorrow and it is definitely something that belongs to week 1.
I like how their tweet about it says ‘tactics’ as in more than one, when all there is is the one new thing (grenade).

Wednesday = Sales pitch for commander tags being 300g per color (incoming gems —→ gold buyers)
Thursday = Season 3 pitch where Anet starts to make money off transfers. Try to sell us how they plan to make it more competitive, or just say screw it and copy Season 2.
Will be a good week for management to celebrate with the staff for increasing revenues this quarter.

Well, if we get a feature pack every few months now, with wvw additions, i guess it’s alright..

Imagine a couple of guys with +5 from masteries and +5 guild buff = 20 supplies each. So lets say 3 guys = 60 supplies = 6 of those traps before even touching keeps/tower supplies just to freeze all your siege in a 450 radius down for [45 seconds] each trap.
Exactly! Now you have to fight the 3 guys, they have to fight you, or you stalemate and your offensive group goes somewhere else (possibly to meet another 3 guys).
The only problem here is that losing that capture made you salty. That’s not an ANet problem.

Wow. This feature patch was so called for. We have tons of unfixed bugs, but hey, at least we can all have a pink commander tag and a siege disabler trap…I don’t know how many more of these letdowns I can take before I just uninstall the game.

Because of the heading and since they already seem to have revealed the complete first week at Gamescom, I’m afraid it really is just the color. But I agree, that this would be a huge letdown given how much time they had so far. The blogpost tomorrow is going to be quite interesting nonetheless. I’m curious if they stick to their decision to make each color cost 300g or if they backpedal.

But the backlash has been pretty heavy. When people started questioning the new siege trick, a red tag popped in to clarify. If there was more to the commander changes, shouldn’t someone have stopped by to at least say “there’s more to come”?

Even the Living Story gets more content than WvW in a “Feature Patch”. Last year we got a whole mastery in a simple living story update, now they are selling it on a extra patch.
If this and the new commander colors are the only wvw changes then i am really really disappointed. I bet that the other 2 weeks will reveal more changes for PvE than we will get for sPvP and WvW ;P
So they add a counterplay for ‘Normal’ Siege, but make Golem rushes tougher to defend while outnumbered? Makes sense..

i hope not . most of european servers suffer from numbers in wvw . they should find ways to make people to play more in wvw , like rewards after matchup if someone has play and accomplished some goals ( for exmpale ) or they hurry up a bit the constant trial account

You clearly have no idea what programming is like! The time it takes so that the code doesnt cause issues with the rest of the game, or create other unforeseen bugs and glitches!

Im afraid that with some of these changers our numbers on our server will likely be nosediving… a lot of people feel like WvW is being ignored by Anet for some reason and since it is the mode we love the most it is driving a lot of folks to playing wvw far less….
There are objects what you cant capture with sieges just with manmode. Example t3 keep. I think it helps the attackers a little

The “Big Changes are Coming to the Commander System” are account-bound tag and new colors. Nothing else.
Don’t wait for anything else until another year.
Moving forward, we’ll be evaluating future possibilities for recognizing experienced and prestigious commanders. Right now, we’re excited to empower commanders with the ability to use all of their characters and choose the color that best fits their needs!

They haven’t even made an effort to do THAT. I understand your point, but MOST game developers handle bugs at a much more expedient rate. When it takes you years to fix things that could be handled in under 8 days, Its not about expecting a fanfare, its about giving your customers/community some reassurance that you give a kitten .

I can totally make that kind of claim, I’m a reverse engineer. Its my job to rip code. If it wasn’t for editing rights, and the fact they use their own custom file format, I’d try to fix them myself.

Plus it will end the ability of small organised groups to use siege to defend against a map-blob. Cata down a wall, disable defending siege, roll zerg inside.
Its going to simply annoy the hell out of everyone, defenders and attackers alike.

You don’t know how strict their review and approval process is. You don’t know what’s on their project plan. You don’t know how strict their testing criteria are.
As a programmer myself, sometimes it takes me a week to do something, then nothing happens for another week or two while QA waits for other bigger items to finish. Then QA will do full integration, regressions etc for a few weeks. Then nothing much happens as the BAs chase down stakeholders to get approvals etc. Something that takes me personally a week to do, may not reach our Live systems until 3-6 months down the track.
I’m not saying that’s what happens at Anet, I’m sure the process used by a game dev is different from one used by a financial institution. But the fact is you don’t know what their internal process for approval, testing etc is like.

Bug fix approval depends on urgency in game development, if the problem is urgent enough a patch can be avalable in less than a week depending on who and how many is pulled to polish. From a business standpoint, if I had thousands or even just hundreds of customer support complaints pertaining to a product we made, We would immediately focus on polishing as to not drop not only current investors, but potential future investors as well. That is relevant in all sectors of business. This is why I highly doubt that approval or testing time is the issue here. I honestly believe it is the lack of in game moderators and eyes on these scenarios. They more than likely just have no idea how people are exploiting bugs because they do not play their own game enough to. It has been over a year since the first time I experienced losing a t3 keep to players that figured out how to break out under the map and cap without breaking through any walls/gates. It has been over a year since the first time people caught servers exploiting the wp Mesmer portal bug to build spawn trebs.
I respect your views. It is true that I am not employed by arena net, therefore I can’t speak on what the work environment is like. However, I can say this:
If you make a flawed product, and ignore continuous customer complaints allowing public opinion to form based off such, there WILL be repercussions. Some immediate, some prolonged. Any business owner knows this.
