That is, without a doubt, part of the new content coming out in 5 days.

Why do I feel like no one s going to get the guard damage/defense traits and nearly everyone will pick up the extra supply and siege damage/defense traits. . .
Is anyone really going to pick anything but ++supply, or increased/reduced siege damage? I just don’t see the other options being viable strategic choices.
I solo cap supply camps all the time. I will for sure take the guard stuff. If we are limited to what we can take, then yes, supply will come first.
Just waiting for some official guy to say “everyone will start at rank X or Y”.
Hopefully the new ability points will be resettable like traits

Well I am pretty sure everyone will start at 0. At least that makes sense to me
I’m excited. Honestly what I am MOST looking forward to is some kind of reward/incentive for GUARDING structures. Right now it is a flip fest. Sure people can stay behind on the tower walls etc, but you don’t get xp, gold, or karma.
If they can look into a system like that, I will enjoy WvW even more than I do now.

Those options seem to also be the most expensive. For the first rank of supply capacity it takes 20 points. Since it looks as if you get one point per rank, it may be more effective to get some of the more basic skills before saving for the large ones.
well at least the wvw leader-boards is coming…i guess fixing the culling issue really takes out a lot of their resources..

What the hell? We are only getting this crap and the removal of culling? How could this be delayed twice?
Oh, you know, just rewriting the rendering priorities, writing and testing a new traiting structure… you do it faster, then complain.
Delaying progression just so they can throw in culling with it? I doubt even Arena Net could do something that stupid. No, they obviously had problems pushing progression out in 2 months, which means their WvW department is most likely abysmal.

Doing more siege damage seems worth it as well, faster keep/tower flips. Does depend on the numbers thou.
Useless progression system + Culling fixes… that’s it? Seriously? The culling fixes aren’t something that should be advertised as new content, that’s a fix to something that has been broken since Day 1. It should have been fixed before any “costumes” or “bags of treats” were added in. I couldn’t be more disappointed considering how much ANET hyped up the WvW content for February March. Seriously a huge let down from the WvW devs who talked this up, nothing more than a carrot on a stick.

Seems like you get 1 point / rank to spend.
Supply upgrade already needs 20 points for the first level.
So i am pretty sure that they know the supply upgrade is the most powerful one.
But i do actually think the supply upgrade is a very nice thing, since it encourages smaller team gameplay.
A zerg will always have loads of ppl to carry supply, and wont have trouble stripping camps where they pass to resupply.
Small groups of ppl however will now be able to carry enough supply for a dangerous amount of siege to be set up in a small amount of time.
The supply upgrade will most likely be 2 supply / upgrade, 1 seems too little and not always useful since you need an even number of supply to repair a wall/gate.
5 sup / upgrade would seem way to powerful.
Anyway, i look forward to it.
Commanders will now also need basic math skills, after saying “sup count”, and seeing 7, 12, 15, 16, 3, 10, 18, 12, …

Yay, a bunch of mediocre bonuses. Supply and – siege damage are ok, but the rest are trash…. hopefully they push new ones out relatively quickly.

The bonuses are supposed to be mediocre at best.
If the bonuses were all that great it would unbalance wvw more than it already is.
And people would see the bonus as a requirement to be viable, and then people would complain of how they introduced another threadmill to grind your way trough.
Look at them thesame way as the gear tiers. You don’t need ascended gear to be viable, you don’t even need full exotics.
Same with these bonuses, you don’t need them to be viable, but if you can have them, why not.

Looks interesting. This is good stuff in terms of setting up the game’s longevity. It must have been some monumental work for them to get out a new rendering backend for WvW.
I will say they might be forgetting the “sizzle” factor lately. Nerds want epic, we want big splashy dynamic new gameplay and so forth. So while it’s nice to keep getting new systems it might be time to move on to WvW content and PVE content.
People in this thread are why I don’t do WvW.

Progression is simply incentive; it’ll help retain players, but it won’t bring back players who have left WvW due to fundamental design issues. I don’t recall these players specifically asking for “progression,” either. Purpose and engagement maybe, but not “progression.”

Actually, I’m fairly sure its the fractal junkies that wants progression to give them a meaning to play. Those of us that rarely, or never, touch pve don’t care. We want what we wanted since day 1, leaderboards and statistics. We don’t need shinies as long as we get our hard earned bragging rights.

Yet another let down. Thank god there is no monthly fee. I rarely log in now. PvE is boring, pointless, and repetitive, and now that it’s apparent that there’s nothing worthwhile on the WvW scene, I can safely say it may be time to take GW2 off the hard drive and wait for something else, anything else.
I understand things take time to get right, but the devs have led us on about what to expect. The WvW patch was pushed back to march for this? I really get the amateur game developer vibe from all of this.

This type of progression is dumb and meaningless. Plus its tied to an “every kid gets a trophy” exp system.
This is an unstructured format and as such there’s little to use as a ranking gauge aside from time spent playing; you cannot, for example, gauge win/loss ratio. The best they can do is add some sort of experience growth for holding and defending a tower as well as staking claim to it. While the former is easy to reward with a properly scaled defense event, rewarding “claiming” is harder because who do you reward?

It’s already been stated on these forums that this update will add in new gear for WvW… multiple times in fact. So your first point is just wrong.
I always earn gold in WvW… maybe die less?
They have said orbs are never coming back (thankfully) though I will always welcome new content.
A progression system like this is something people have been asking for since Beta. I’m sorry it doesn’t meet your personal expectations, but I am excited about it.
I think the removal of Culling will be the real win for this update if it works. That alone makes this a huge addition to WvW.
