How about 25 achievements, like this, except you receive credit by:
1) doing any 5 from the total of 25, each week.
2) do not receive credit for any beyond the first 5 you complete
3) those 5 are crossed of from the total list and are not available in the next week
If not 25 from a list, at how about 25 unique events. IE: no credits beyond the first for a dolyak escort (maybe granular such as a specific escort, if this is trackable).
Rewards? Perhaps a la dynamic events, instead of “gift or no gift,” or even worse, “I live on a crappy server.”
25 unique events – gold
20 unique events – silver
15 unique event – bronze
Good luck to all, this season. Regardless of rewards, my server’s queues are evil!
People keep saying that this is good because “hardcore” WvWers don’t care about achievements…what about the hardcore ones that do? I spend 95% of my playtime in WvW, and I would sure as hell prefer having to actually work for tournament achievements (and getting more AP for that effort) rather than doing 5 events for a negligible amount of AP and no effort at all.
I like having a goal to work toward. There is a massive difference between requiring 40 ruin caps for a single achievement in the meta, and requiring 5 events period for the meta. This is such a joke. The actual WvW achievements are unobtainable, and that likely won’t change any time soon, so all we had to look forward to AP-wise is tournament achieves…which apparently we’re not having anymore.
Your goal is to help your server to win the season.
If your server has absolutely no chance at winning the season, that goal is kinda iffy..
I’m quite glad the achevments are easy seeing as my ISP is being a bit rubbish. My connection will be spotty till the 22nd. So if the weeklies where more I’d have no
Chance of completing them and miss out on the meta, dew to something out of my control.

Basically removing the achievement requirement during a tournament is an experimental step we took to reduce the incentive for achievement grinding. We want people to play WvW, and not focus too heavily on satisfying achievement requirements.
If we find that players prefer having numerous things to check off a list, then we would certainly take that feedback into account and consider it for future tournaments.
Changing it to an events based system makes sense, however I think 5 events per week is a little too few. I can complete 5 WvW Events in about 10 minutes by myself. That hardly warrants “participation”
I think upping it to maybe 25 per week is a little fairer. In around 4 hours of WvW you’ll probably complete that many events, while still ensuring most people are actually participating for their rewards. You could even do a “tiered” system that gives rewards based on actual participation.

Some servers are crying out for more WvW players, the seasons did bring in the PvE players, but it also gave them servers a great chance to get some of them players into playing more WvW, when they see it can be somewhat fun, making someone spend 10 minutes in WvW seems wrong, furthermore it shows how imbalanced you are prepared to let the game get,
PvE player wants WvW Season rewards = spending 10 mins in WvW/Eotm
WvW player wants LS rewards = grinding thru several hours of PvE
Balanced much?
The old achievements where fine for any WvW player to get in the 7 week time frame, why are you so determined to cater to the PvE class while dumbing down the achievements for WvW players??? I didn’t see you’s changing the achievements on the kill 1,000,000 dolyaks!!!!
I think the previous achievements were way too much grinding. The new achievements are close to the same as not even having achievements.
A better solution is something in the middle. 25 events each week would be a good middle ground.
Edit: I am not a fan of forcing people to do certain events. That’s why I’d much rather have a number of events to complete.

Ok, tell me whats the difference for the PvE players, if they going to do the achievements for 1 min or for 1 day?
Personally I thought Season 1 was too much, individual achievements required too much grind and it restricted you to doing specific things, which weren’t always helpful for your server. (Remember all those people taking supply from keeps to repair walls that were still being trebbed, or using rams without mastery so they could get the achievement for destroying the door?)
Season 2 was about right IMO. The numbers on individual achievements were more reasonable and (aside from the jumping puzzles) they were all things you would do during normal WvW activity, not something you had to go out of your way and or harm your server to get.
This season…completing 5 events a week is ridiculously easy. Bear in mind there is a daily achievement that requires you to complete 5 events, and that’s one of 5 achievements you have to do in a day to get the reward.
If the intention was to avoid forcing players to do specific activities then that’s fair enough, but the requirement should be higher. I completed it in about 10 minutes in the Edge of the Mists, even for someone who has never set foot in WvW before I can’t imagine it would take more than about 30 minutes. It actually took me longer to do the WvW daily achievements that day.
“Life’s a journey, not a destination.”
Achievement may not be much this season but it satisfies my situation. It’s too bad WvW doesn’t let me contribute more to my world given the nature of the game’s unoptimized net coding and “backlogging” all the zerg data (thus causing latency, built up for me from the server side).

The best way to have people play WvW is to improve it.
- After more than 2 years, the core mechanics and most of the WvW maps are still the same and people feel that the game has gone stale. Check my signature and the WvW forums for some ideas!
- Reward level is too low compared to the rest of the game. This has been acknowledged by ANet more than one year ago, but we didn’t see any improvements.
- Actually, we did see an improvement in rewards! Too bad it was in the new map. EOTM rewards are so good that many people from PVE AND WVW actually decide to karma/champion train there…
- … which brings the game to even more population imbalance between servers with a full stack of dedicated WvW guilds and servers that relied on their militia and now struggle to get more people on the maps…
- … which represents a problem for coverage. And with the current scoring system, coverage is everything.
- a player that enjoys WvW has a very hard time gaining access to PVE rewards like the new backpack and weapon skins from Dry Top, while a PVE player needs to spend just a few minutes in EOTM (not even their servers’ borderlands!) per week to have access to the season rewards
These are only a few points. Most of them have been discussed over and over in the WvW forums, alongside with many more, but still, the feedback from ANet has been pretty much non-esistent.

Well said.
I was also surprised that the Tournament requirements this time around were so… quick.
I’m not complaining too much, since that means I now have more time to do the PvE stuff I normally prefer doing, although I do wonder how this will affect the final participation metrics after the Tourney is over.
This is one of the better changes for tournaments and I aplaud it.
Any wvw player worth his salt does not give jack about achievements or militia that crawls out of whatever pve hole they were hiding in all the weeks prior to the season.
We do what we do because WE are just plain stupid and we love it.

It’s not about the achievements, more about the accessibility of the rewards. All other modes have something that you have to put time and effort to obtain: PvE has Living Story skins and backpice, PvP has a new reward track with exclusive armor and WvW has jack because everyone with 10-15 min to spare can get the same stuff. I personally think it’s not fare for dedicated WvW players who played hours and hours to push their server to higher place in the tournament to get the same rewards as someone who pop into EotM to do 5 events.
I’m a primarily PvE player and I find these achievements disheartening. I completed them in 10 minutes in EoTM while waiting in the queue, and it felt like, you know… getting a mini llama for joining a single PvP match.
The previous achievements made you work hard and feel like you get rewarded for helping your world in WvW – especially if you weren’t a WvW player. For me, the amount of work I have to put in something is an important factor in how valuable that something becomes. Now… now everyone and their mother will have WvW weapons, and they start looking as “good” as Zenith skins.
Yes, the “kill X amount of WvW rats/cats/pets” categories had a problem of confining playstyle, but “5 events” is not a solution. I think that once again, just like with NPE, you overdid it. 75 or 50 events – yes, maybe… but not 5, definitely not 5.
If the purpose was to pull more people into WvW – then it failed, because on day 2 of the Tournament I thought “Why bother? I already got it, let’s go grind some dungeons instead!” – heck, I even thought so in EoTM before my queue even popped up. If the purpose was to let more people enjoy the “rewards” because of the QQ on the forums, then your decision had a side effect of aggravating people who worked hard to get a particular content-gated reward.
All and all, I hope that at least weeks 2-4 get changed to 50 events (after the first 5 “introductory” events in week 1 for people who found WvW Tournaments confusing and overwhelming).
(edited by Lishtenbird.2814)
WvW tournament achievements are not there to give you AP ans shinnies.
They are there to guide people into WvW so they at least check it out.
Once they have tried WvW, if they like it, they can stay and help. And if they do not like it, they can get the hell out and leave slots for players who actually want to do some WvW without having to stick around doing something they don’t like and bothering other players for some AP.
If you like WvW, you stay. If you don’t like it, you don’t have to stay long to complete some achievement.
It’ a win/win. The best thing ANet could have possibly done within the context of the current WvW.
Any better solution would also require changing WvW itself drastically.
Want to feel rewarded for doing WvW? Lend a shoulder, organize yourself with your team mates, and help world get 200 tickets instead the base 100.
As it is, the main problem with WvW rewards is that creatures within events drop stuff. All drops within events must be moved to the end of the event as part of the event rewards for success. That way, those who stay back holding the enemy will get as many rewards as the little greedy skritt-brained sons of a grawl that rush to kill the lord.

And I’m saying that if you want rewards you don’t go wvw.
I do not care if some random pve newfriend gets the same shiny finisher or weapon skin as I will at the end of it.
I care about getting on a border, greeting the same old guys and gals, complaining about the enemy blobs or the lack of commander on our side. Laughing at another joke in TS that fell short or a preachy speech by one of the longtimers. I care about killing the enemy, preferably sticking a finisher up his bottom, slaying his lifestock and burning his keep to the ground.
You do not do wvw for achievements, skins, bags or titles. You do it because at the end of the day when all is burning arround you and the enemy is at your doorstep you give out a call and see your guild and community stand beside you, thick or thin.
I like play wvw and i like be revarded for doing it good

PvE is not competitive. And it is not time-gated.
With a tournament theres no time to lose. Every slot used by someone who is more interested in getting AP than having their team win may be a wasted slot.
In PvE that problem simply doesn’t happen. Even more so now that living story is becoming more permanent. You just get to it when you can.
Well, it could be:
Weekly:
1. Take 5 sentries OR 5 camps
2. Take 5 towers OR 5 keeps
3. Spend 50 supply
4. Kill 20 enemy players
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
I’m a primarily PvE player and I find these achievements disheartening.
Same here. I was actually kinda looking forward to getting into WvW a little. But when killing three sentries and capping two ruins was all I needed to do to max out my tournament AP rewards for this week, my motivation kinda slumped.
From my perspective, what would have motivated me more would have been something like the Meta-Achievement structure, which ANet said they didn’t want to use anymore: Have tiered achievements for things like sentries (25), ruins (25), dolyaks (20), camps (10), towers (5) and maybe keeps, then hand out the meta-achievement with the tournament rewards when you get three of the single achievements. As it is, the tournament achievements are laughably trivial while the permanent WvW achievements are completely absurd, and neither does anything to motivate me to get more into WvW.
Why is it always either or with you guy on a-net, why can nothing be somewere inbetween. I mean it is a huge difference between achivement grinding taking like 2 weeks to make and something that takes me 3 min. Why can there never be a middle way?
It is same thing all the time. Like with the banner of the lord. Yes it was heavy used and a nerf is fine, but why remove it totally? Why not put a buff on him instead to reduce the possibility to do it 57 times in a row?
Or with the new siege disablee. Why make it so abuseble so it ends up with a lockdown, why not put a buff or cd on it?
Or new gate leveling system. It is gated to a point were i don’t want to make an alt, because of the heavy gating were you even have to unlock downed skills (ffs), i mean ok i get the gate system, good thing to add, but why complicated it to a point were you just don’t want to do it due to the dumbing down on the game.
Or the tc, awsome that you finally made the changes we wanted for so long, but instead of making it easy it is now complicated as hell to use it, and i actually have to focus, making sure it is done the right way .
It just kind of goes on an on this way, either it has to be 1000% or 1% whats wrong with a middle way, were we all get the good stuff and the bad but it is ok to deal with. Would for sure satisfies more people

I’m often wondering the same. I guess there’s a Sid Meier’s principle called “Double It Or Cut It By Half” which is loved by ANet. In a perfect environment with prompt balance changes, it works miracles; in real life scenarios with 6 months between balance updates, it means overbuff and overnerfs for a long time. The solution IMO is rather simple: either make changes more often so that you can tweak it back really fast, or make gradual changes which can stop at the point where people start saying “yeah, that’s just about right!” – just like it happened with LS Season 2.

I got every single WvW achievement for both season 1 and spring tournament, even the ones that can not be attained in EotM (e.g. yak slapping). I do enjoy WvW from time to time, but I am not a hardcore WvWer. I WILL, however, get all of my achievements: even if it was extremely laborious, completely unenjoyable, and very stressful to have to do so within a set time frame (before the season ends); even if it means I hinder my own server to victory by spending all day multiple days grinding out achievements in a full queue WvW and preventing those who are sincerely interested in legitimately playing WvW for competition and fun from joining; even if it means I passively stand by and watch as other PvE achievement hunters rage and harass legitimate WvW players who flip an enemy camp we were farming dollyaks from (even though I don’t condone/participate in such behavior and would normally speak up).
The new system pulls achievement/reward hunters into WvW enough for them to get a taste of it and possibly get hooked on it or learn more about it if they discover they enjoy it, but also to have the freedom to get in and out and move on if they don’t. It frees up room in the WvW queues for WvW guilds and people who truly want to WvW. I much prefer the new system.
Screw Achievement Points – I play to have fun, and don’t even watch how many AP I do or do not have… I couldn’t care less if they completely removed AP from the game…

Sorry, I can’t agree with that. Weekly achievements are do-able. Not everyone can log in every day, and then they miss out on the “meta”, whatever that may be, if they can’t log in every single day and play for 4 straight weeks? Nope.
I don’t think 5 events a week is enough, but daily isn’t going to be any more popular. I would think that 40-50 events a week would be do-able. Even 25, if we want to talk minimums, but at least keep it weekly rather than daily. Just my 2 cents.

PvE-er speaking here who only really ever went to eotm for the armor set.
Alot of pvers are collectors by nature. Put a goal in front of them (I am not speaking for everyone, but I know myself) with the promise of a particular reward, and they will go for it. wvw achievements arent any different. Put a series of goals in front of them promising a limited time reward (mistforged heros weapons for example) and you will see pvers in wvw.
Whether the achievements are enjoyable or not does depend on the grind level for one thing. (I exaggerate) complete 1000 events: thats a grind. Complete a number of varied mild to moderate, perhaps a few difficult achievements/meta achievement wouldnt be as grindy even if meant to take the same amount of time.
I, for one, am working on getting to master crafter title and am getting close. Thus, I went to wvw friday night, did my 5 events, ran around with the zerg til I died, then left and went about my business. I dont forsee going back in until next friday or saturday.
Honestly, I didnt even believe the requirement when I saw it and asked in my guild for people to verify those were the only requirements and that no one had found hidden requirements/rewards.
I like not feeling pressured to grind on crappy nonrelavent activities.

What is it about GW2 that attracts the biggest % of whiners to the game.
I cant believe, that people are still coming to WvW forum to QQ because Anet didnt give em something to grind. I dont get it, in the other subforums you can find alot of PvE players complaining about how much they have to grind for gear, materials, etc, etc -“You Anet promised at the launch, no grinding, what happen?”. And when for once they give you something without any grind, you complaining again? I believe the truth is a bit different, since WvW is the very last priority (last 2 years prove this) and just before so call Big September Feature Pack, they just didnt have the time to come up with something better.
Dont worry next season they will be plenty of achievements to do. Probably till then they will be only PvErs left in this game and WvW will be like eotm.
Just have some patience.

I believe it’s more or less the “why even bother” that gets most people. The PvE players have to do almost nothing to get the WvW rewards that us hardcore players are spending so many hours playing to try and win. So, why even bother? Might as well just give it to everyone on the server whether they even logged in during the week’s matchup or not. Indeed, why bother with achievements at all?
I’m not even sure why we even bother with achievements for WvW. As each new season starts, we’re losing more and more quality players. Truth be told… WvW is not even close to the excitement one would get from when the game first got released. Yes, those were the crazy queues days, but those were the fun times. Nowadys, most players are just part of a blob… Either you are part of the blob or you’ll lose because them zergs are not big enough to fight. Maybe it’s time to merge servers or at least pair them up instead? I think it was mentioned many times before, but it keeps falling on deaf ears. With megaserver, PVE becomes merged… It’s perhaps time to do more merging and or rework the entire structure of WvW. It’s only fun if it’s zerg vs zerg or blob vs blob. It’s never fun if it’s only you vs blobs… I’m sure that happened to a lot of people. We need to balance the game and perhaps, Anet should’ve collected enough data from various servers during all this time of how many people WvW in each server. We can do some kind of balancing by merging the servers. Don’t ever rely on people to try and balance the matches. It didn’t happen before even with many attempts and it will never ever happen.
I don’t understand why some of you elitist WvW players are being so rude to PvE players.
If anything, WvW needs players, especially for lower tier servers. The ironic part though, is that some of you are happy that PvE players get in and leave quickly, which just adds to the problem of queues.
There should be incentive for them to actually participate in WvW activities. Why wouldn’t you want that to happen? Stop being elitist jerks.

Because on alot of servers, WvW doesn’t need PvE players. It needs Queues to be free from PvE players who are there to farm achievements and lose points for their server rather than play WvW.

“a lot of servers”? 6 out of 24? Maybe 9? According to my calculations, we’re still the majority of the servers…
WvW Rank 3800 (Platinum Veteran) – PvP Rank 69 (Shark) – 25,9k Achievment Points
Mërcenaries [Sold] – Ferguson’s Crossing

I like to hope these individuals don’t represent the majority of the WvW community. At least on Yak’s Bend, we’re very receptive to PvE players who may want to jump into WvW and learn/play a little.
A lot of WvWers, including myself, started off so-called “PvE scrubs” once upon a time. It’s unfortunate that a minority seem to have forgotten their own roots and view with disdain the likely source for any new WvW arrivals which is PvE.
It doesn’t make you look cool or “pro” to bash players who prefer other game modes. I like to think that the majority of veteran PvP/WvW players understand the importance of welcoming everyone in WvW as a potential long-term WvW player and being willing to help them get the most from our preferred mode which we all know can be some of the best fun you can have in this game at times.
Finally. No more PvE AP hunters running around in wvw not helping the war effort. A good change.
The only thing I have to say is that next time don’t make the achievements per round.
Having them so means that you could miss out on the entire title and achievements because might not be able to play for one of those weeks. Its unfair, I cannot get the overall achievement despite being a regular wvw contributor because one of those weeks I am unavailable to play for the entire match-up. After that one week period I would be more than happy to grind however many hours it took to get the achievement back, but I can’t.
Please take this into consideration for future match-ups.
The Corrupt Mesmer Builds
This is one of the better changes for tournaments and I aplaud it.
Any wvw player worth his salt does not give jack about achievements or militia that crawls out of whatever pve hole they were hiding in all the weeks prior to the season.
We do what we do because WE are just plain stupid and we love it.
Let me just quote this, cause this comment is the prime example of ignorance (don’t want to offend, but yeah).
Here is a few things wrong with this:
1. Not all people are (like) you. Can you imagine someone actually liking WvW AND liking do to achievments?
2. There are people outside the hardcore-pure-only-(insert Man-o-war lyrics here) WvWers. Some PvP-ers and PvE-ers actually like to pop in WvW for 2-3 hours a week and that’s it.
3. WvW keeps crying about dying, and when there’s a chance for influx on new players, you send them away. Brilliant.
4. When the ever-so-stale (that is target to many tears) WvW is gonna get a little seasoning (pun intended), you say you don’t need it cause… sorry why again?
And as I said, this post is not meant for you only, I know a huge % of WvW players think like this. Which is quite frankly: ignorant and sad.
