Look, you were given a window to spend heirlooms. It was advertised and promoted in the last week. Just because you were or were not thinking about what to spend them on does not matter. You didn’t spend them within that window, sorry you lose out.
“Advertised and promoted” would imply that they put it out there everywhere so that no one would miss it, rather than a single post in the “news and announcements” section of the forum. Had they placed it in the Login section of the game, I would have seen it. Had they done an in-game email, I would have seen it. Had they made an announcement in ALL of the relevant forums (such as this one and the living story one, and the general game one) I would have seen it. And had they done all of that advertising and promotion…I would be right there with you agreeing with you 100% But I feel that if I missed it….and I visit the forums at least once every other day, I read every announcement on the login screen (even about gem-store items), I read every in-game mail and actually talk to vendors and surrounding people…If I missed it…then there were a TON of people that never saw it at all.
I would not call what they did “Advertised and promoted”…..I would call it “Mentioned”. SO you cannot blame people for missing it and simply say “it was out there”
That reminds me of “hitchhikers guide to the galaxy” when they are destroying the earth to make a new transgalactic highway and the humans are saying “WTF??” and the aliens simply say…“Hey, the form was filed with the galactic central office, it was located, on display in subbasement 57 of the galactic central offices. Its not our fault you did not have the means to travel between the stars to go and see it.”

Okay here again is how I found myself not in the problem the OP and others have had.
“Hey a living story event. I’m getting drops unique to that story. I know the living story is every 2 weeks or so. Maybe I should keep an eye out to see what those living story items may or may not do before the event ends.”
It is GW2 living story player 101 to look into such things before the story ends.
This is precisely why…even though I have limited time these days…I constantly made an effort to check the “living story” forums…the ones that deal with the living story…because I figured if they were going to make an announcement about something in the “living story”, it would probably go in the “living story”…just like I typically go to "news and announements’ when the game is down, or say, if something else affecting the game as a whole happens….I don’t bother checking that for “living story” announcements….since other “living story” announcements were always made in the “living story” forums.
Living story, living story…I can’t say that enough
Oh, and why is sonder the seller trading stuff like candy corn?
Because you can still get candy corn and it is tradeable?
HMM? WHAT ABOUT THE FORTUNE SCRAPS THEN
edit: ACCOUNT BOUND, CANT BE GOTTEN ANYMORE FROM ANYWHERE.Fortune scraps still drop from kite fortunes, if you have some left. Even though Kite Fortunes arent obtainable anymore, there was an incentive to not consume them all before their LS Event ended because they give you a random Boost.
Bag of scarlet alliance supplies still drop belongings if you have some left. They also might contain rare minis or perma quaggan tonics so it might be worth it to wait without opening them if you get lucky. If not for anything else, for saving inventory space.
Minis stack up to 250 in the collectible tab. If you want to save inventory space, just delete your heirlooms and belongings because they are worthless now.
You could have opened all your supply bags before the patch ended and listed your rare quaggan tonic at a higher price without loosing space to either bags or tonics.I hope you understand now, why fortune scraps are still tradeable with Sonder and heirlooms are not.
Quaggan tonics do not stack and they do not have a bank tab. I also would not have wanted to list it at any price, i have no idea how high they could potentially rise. What if i sold it for 10g if it was 100g the day after?
So you want Anet to make extra NPCs everytime you cant decide on a price to sell your items for or running out of inventory space?
No thank you, extra tab for sonder the seller is enough.
But he only deals in items that still drop or for rare weapon skins, why should he want belongings that can only be traded for items that can still be aquired through other means and offer no exclusive items?

What do you expect Anet to do? Splat some thing on your screen on character login that says, “Read this before you can play?” I’m not sure if you are new to MMOs or not but it has been a long standing tradition that serious players keep up on game news and in every case that involves reading official news forums and so forth.

@Aerinndis
I retract that ingame mail thing. Now as i see sonder the seller trades fortune scraps that have absolutely same “stats” as belongings, i can’t see a reason why he couldn’t trade those too. If someone explains me a valid good reason why sonder the seller still trades fortune scraps and not belongings i will leave the thread right away.
at your side note, i doubt it’d be dangerous to state my age or anything, but this thread isn’t about that, if you feel like you have something else to say of that then PM
Discuss the age thing with your parents they may enlighten you. Nuff said about that – rest of us know why.
I believe the fortune scraps are still redeemable because that event will come back around again. The Zepherites come back periodically:
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Zephyrites
This event is not a recurring event. That one is. I am eagerly looking forward to their return as well. I do sincerely feel sorry you lost out on this event. It took a lot of work to obtain objects and heirlooms.

hahahahha kudos for the reference I love that movie
to put that example into context.
- Planet earth (heirlooms & belongings) will be destroyed on the 18th make sure to make arrangements for your escape (trade in) before that time thank you.
- but, but, I didn’t hear about this anywhere, can’t you please extend your doomsday plans for a day or so please ?
- The news of your planet’s destruction was posted on every intergalactic news mainframe we could reach (social media) it is not the galactic empire’s fault you do not like social media or were unable to access it.
- the galactic empire plans are not put on hold for any one individual or minor planet.
- if you have complaints or suggestions please submit them to the intergalactic network mainframe after the 18th.

So how is it I didn’t fall victim to the same thing you did? Oh that’s right… It is because I made sure to read the news in the forums. I looked around to make sure the items I had would not turn to junk. Why? Because I care about my items and did the homework to make sure I wasn’t left with garbage and didn’t delete things without cause.

No, sorry, the announcement wasn’t on Twitter. I follow their @GuildWars2 account. And it’s not in the patch notes. The only place they bothered to announce that the items and merchants would disappear is that one little place in the forums. I didn’t know they put announcements like that there since it seems like they announce everything else important in the patch notes and “About this release” page. It’s dumb to have to dig for this when there were many other relevant places they could have included this information. It’s not like those of us who missed that little blurb don’t bother to look at update information. I just don’t think we should have to follow EVERY SINGLE PLACE update information is posted. I don’t even understand why this doesn’t show up in the release notes. Put it all in in the release info area, for goodness sake; you see release info on the main page, it’s linked in emails, it’s linked in Twitter, and yet in none of those places (except that little spot in the forums) says anything about the merchants disappearing on such-and-such a date. Heck, the releases notes say that the refugee camps would still be there today, so why guess that one NPC usually found there would be gone?

They could have easily put in the March 4th patch notes: “The epic conclusion of the Scarlet saga which will bring about the end of Scarlet also will be the final chance to use your Heirlooms or found belongings! Make sure you use them up by March 18th when the vendors will suddenly no longer care about these poor peoples belongings that you found in your adventures within Lion’s arch. If you found something and the vendor is gone that means the people who lost them are obviously already dead and no longer looking for those Heirlooms or belongings. So use them before all the refuges that are looking for something has got their’s back!”

Bottom line any event you suspect is NOT a recurring event ask or check that what you are collecting is worth keeping after the event. It doesn’t matter if you do it in Map Chat or try to look or ask on the forums – someone usually knows….. Otherwise the fault is yours and not anyone else’s.
Dragon Bash Festival – recurring
Bazaar of the Four Winds – recurring
Wintersday – recurring
Escape from Lions Arch – NOT recurring
etc.
and yes, putting that in patch notes would be appropriate but again if you don’t or won’t read those you have other avenues to find out.

I swear, this game’s community is the worst MMORPG community I have ever seen, even worse than the WoW community. Any time somebody asks a question, it seems like most people will just intentionally throw rude comments about how “you should have known” or “read the forums hurr durr”.
Not everybody who plays this game is such an anet fanboy that anything and everything anet does is justified. The decision to remove the vendor at all seems incredibly stupid to me, not only because there are people that either haven’t turned in their heirlooms/lost belongings (and who knows? some of us have lives and can’t sit on these forums or the cesspool of hipsters that is reddit), or maybe somebodies computer crashed before they had a chance to turn them in, but also from a lore standpoint. Nobody here knows all of the situations people might have run into in their real lives to say they don’t deserve to finish something they quite obviously have the want to finish.
Also, from a lore standpoint…why would the vendor disappear AT ALL?! Would these lost belongings and heirlooms that quite obviously were for the citizens of LA that lost the them all of a sudden not be wanted by the people who owned them?

To all the people arguing against it…in what way does it hurt you to bring the vendor back for a week? Or to add it to the new “blade shards” vendor that is supposedly coming?
Just curious why some people are arguing so hard that ANET should not bring the vendors back….to be honest, it really doesn’t hurt me much…I probably missed out on like 8 obsidian shards from all the belongings I had….and I have 6 million karma I could spend on that….but I am arguing FOR it for the people that missed out. So I am curious why some people are arguing against it?

But there is NO reasen, why they shouldn´t put the vendor there and maybe remove them in a month or two…

Some people just like to argue. They have no life and nothing better to do. They’re arguments don’t make sense, but that’s to be expected, considering.
Compassion is always better than misdirected passion.
It’s easier for them to ignore the valid ways in which the information was missed, and the easy road is what many people are all about.

if the vendor was suddenly removed w/o a warning like the mistake that happened with karma boosters some time ago I would be inclined to agree with you but……
everyone had in one way or another at least one way of finding out about this change with ample time, forums was NOT the only avenue, twitter also posted and was linked to the original warning, so was reddit.

Well, I don’t expect those merchants to stay forever, but since GW could be very well considered a casual game, there are quite some people who play just for some hours a month and since this living story was difficult to miss (being in Lions Arch and such) those people might have collected belongings without checking the forum (because why should they?) and after that farming it’s disappointing and frustrating to be unable to use them.
Maybe ending the living story, so everyone knows they have to use the belongings now, and then delete the merchants two weeks later.
I mean, the camps are still there, so why not the merchants?
Just be nice to us unsuspecting people who are not following the forum.

I actually do read devtracker….however its easy to miss something in there when the devs are posting a LOT (for bugs etc)….because, I missed it there.
It’s not fair for those who do read Dev posts, and subsequently turn in all our trophies in a timely manner.

Also, from a lore standpoint…why would the vendor disappear AT ALL?! Would these lost belongings and heirlooms that quite obviously were for the citizens of LA that lost the them all of a sudden not be wanted by the people who owned them?
if the vendor was suddenly removed w/o a warning like the mistake that happened with karma boosters some time ago I would be inclined to agree with you but……
everyone had in one way or another at least one way of finding out about this change with ample time, forums was NOT the only avenue, twitter also posted and was linked to the original warning, so was reddit.
As someone else posted already, it wasn’t on twitter…I can’t speak of reddit since I don’t go there either…but that still leaves only ONE avenue…the forum….and only ONE avenue within the forum…“news and announcements”.
Like I said earlier….had they actually made an effort to get this out there to the public….had they posted it on all the relevant forums, posted it on facebook, twitter, reddit, as well as on the logon splash screen…I would agree with you. But a single post on a single forum that is not even linked on the main forums is not taking advantage of “every avenue” to get the information out there for their customers.
I’ve seen companies make much more of an effort (and still fail to reach their customers)….but at least they made much more of an effort than this.

Because allowing DaFuzz to turn in his trophies somehow makes your obsidian shards or halo stop working? or does it take them from you? no wait? It means that there will be one more player running around with a halo for the next week that you won’t notice over the 1000’s of other players already in the game who don’t have them? I am still struggling how this affects your ACCOUNT bound items? It doesn’t de-value them in any way…you still have yours. Not to mention most people will stop using their halo’s in a week anyways since it is not a permanent head-slot item and only lasts an hour.

Vendors won’t be back. Sorry for your luck.
And there would be nothing fair about adding the vendors back aside from reinforcing the idea that it is okay to not pay attention to the game you are playing. What’s next? Asking for fireworks back in LA to get the Dragon Bash helms that dropped during a limited time? Wait we saw that too and it didn’t happen. “but..but…but.. I didn’t know.” Sorry, maybe next time you will pay attention and look into things that might affect your game.

I support them putting the merchants back for another week, just as a friendly gesture showing players they are nice people. I also support giving players ways to keep obtaining blade shards for another week. It’s one thing if they put the notices about when these vendors are going away in the patch notes, such as the last patch. It’s quite another to disregard players who don’t browse the forums much, and only click on news and patch notes that they see on the launcher or via ingame notices.
Had they put the notices about when they were going away in the patch notes or on the launcher news links, I would’ve said ok, your own fault. But since they didn’t do any of that, it really doesn’t hurt anybody to have these vendors back in place for another week. Because you see, now that people have noticed they’re gone, they’ll know.

limited edition items for participating in events is not the same as gathered currency…and they did bring the helms back, you could get one in the most recent scarlet event as a drop after defeating the holograms….as well as many other limited edition items.
Again, in what way does bringing back the vendor for those people that are not on twitter, the forum, or reddit affect you or your account bound items in any way? Keep in mind that probably 99% of people would not have the 250 heirlooms to trade in for the halo or horns…they simply want to get some use for them after having gathered them for two weeks…so they would buy things like obsidian shards…or an orachalcum mining pick or something.

It’s about principle. Anet said players should turn in their stuffs, or lose out. If a player didn’t read the forums and didn’t know, it’s the player’s fault.
There’s an idiom that a wise man once said: You snooze, you lose.

I am working off an older computer and yesterday it was giving me quite a bit a grief. I had collected my last bit of heirlooms and objects that I wanted to trade in so it was a bit of a heart stopper when the old girl kept going Nada! when I tried to run GW2. It finally started behaving and I was able to do it. If it had not, well, there you go….. such is life…. New one is coming shortly so those woes should be over soon. Things happen and sometimes you can’t finish what you wanted to do. That is life, sometimes it is sucky and sometimes it is da bomb…. Expecting a break because you stubbed your toe, your hair hurts or you broke a fingernail is unrealistic. We had what? almost a month of collecting things to turn in on a non-recurring event. Not hard to figure it out….
Lore standpoint, we don’t need to know why the vendors left. They may have gone to their homes in LA to salvage what is left now that it is over, they may be the looters we see in LA, Lionsguard may have made them go away, we just don’t know. Trust me the vendors were not altruistic in any sense they were BUYING the heirlooms and objects. Anyone can tell you they are going to return stuff….

If every player knew about the time limit, then it could be “not fair” for those who did it in a timly manner.
Or you can call it unfair for the player who farmed those items and cannot use them anymore.
But I think, if the majority of players don´t even know about the time limt, then there shouldn´t be a question abot “Fair or not fair?”. This a problem with the communication between anet and the players. If they have an important change, which directly affects the player, why dont announce it in the patch-notes or send everyone a short letter? My personal favorite is a small pop-up-window ingame, so it doesn´t spam the mailbox.
With that even those players who don´t use the forum or don´t use twitter (or whatever) and are playing GW maybe once every 2/3 weeks will know it.

Communication was the problem. Like I have said numerous times…this doesn’t really affect me one way or another, had they actually done a decent job of getting the message out there, I would be right there arguing with you instead of against you. I don’t think they did a good enough job of getting the communication out there.
And…bringing the merchants back is just a nice thing to do. It doesn’t affect anyone who used their currency already in any way whatsoever. It simply allows people who didn’t see the obscure communication a chance to use theirs. It is simply a nice thing for a company to do to their customers who played their content.
Once again, this is not granting anything to anyone who didn’t play the content….it is not bringing back the places to get the heirlooms or belongings…it is rewarding the players who played the content…but failed to read a notice.
