New World Bosses
I like the looks of things, but until I actually experience the content, I can only reserve judgment.
I am looking forward to something other than Wintersday, much as I love it. It’s time, though, to move on.
I think they learned a few tricks during the Tower of Nightmares to keep things fresh. Some of those bosses were pretty difficult, and zergs got blasted pretty hard if they weren’t paying attention. I expect more of that here.
PvE Main – Zar Poisonclaw – Daredevil
WvW Main – Ghost Mistcaller – Herald
Considering the wurm has three heads and it sounds like they will pop up in different locations to one another (and there is the potential for them to respawn if the others aren’t kill soon enough or something like that), I would say they’re more in line with Teq. It should be good
yayayayayyyy more hard boss fights!
Can’t wait to kill the worm and read all the whining on the forum!
Seems kinda cool. I definitely want more world bosses but man… super disappointing boss model recycle. They took probably the most bland world boss model & reused it.. like.. really?
Making a unique model makes a huge difference in how interesting it is. It feels way less epic when the boss is generic & lame. And it’s the the easiest to rig creature type: a WORM.
They’ll definitely be zerged on release. It can’t be helped. I’m so glad the wurm one will be permanent too. I’m really liking the more permanent stuff lately.
I am little worried this will be like Teq. where you have to be in a special guild and basically glitch (create a overflow for just certain people to join) the game to be able to complete the content.
From what I’ve read the wurm boss will be similar in difficultly to Tequatl and for story you only need to fight the boss, which makes me thankful I’m in TTS at the moment. I’d join a Teq slaying guild before this boss patches as I imagine they’ll be recruiting in the lead up to this update.
I hope that this ‘teq difficulty’ stuff is only speculation, I already forgot how Splintered Coast looks like… I hate this teamspeak coordinated, schematic zergfest, I really do.
William S. Burroughs
It said in the article somewhere it will be similar to Teq. Also when Teq was revamped they already said that other bosses will be revamped to the same difficulty or similar world bosses added
So excited, hope it is at least as hard as Teq
It will prolly be like teq. So get your achieves done quick before everyone quits.
Oh well, Bloodtide never was my favourite place anyway. For mah wonderfully unzergish challenge I’ll visit the good old Lupi and friends, thank you very much.

They didn’t create the overflow so only certain people could fight Tequatl. They overflowed the normal server to create the overflow and then ferried people into that overflow. In doing this, they could avoid afk players taking up slots so that they would have more people fighting Tequatl.

It also makes the fight invite-only. And I’m sorry to inform you, but it is certainly not only AFK players being excluded.
A group of players should never be able to determine whether or not other players can experience content that was designed for everyone.
Even though I’m a member of TTS, I agree with the above concerns. Fortunately ANet did say they were aware of the issues surrounding Tequatl and his “accessibility”, so here’s hoping it’ll be addressed during OoM and subsequent updates.
For EU, if they disable guesting or if they disable chests for guests, other servers can find a zerg in their Teqila fight too.
Also, after months Teqila fight becomes very simple. In Desolation, we are not even using a TS to communicate. If a player is lucky enough to enter main map, all they need to do is following the crowd. The problem is ezmoder players. They whine and whine for everything that is harder than level 1 dolyak.
Conclusion: I dont like guests in my server, Desolation. Do not come Desolation please. Do not steal my spot and my loot.

The difficulty doesn’t bother me, but if the rewards aren’t better than then champ trains, then it will just be abandoned like Teq was. A-net really needs to balance which content gives rewards, and make some content give exclusive rewards. I’m not sure if they already do this, but it would help utilize the more abandoned world bosses.
for the record, the battle against Blightghast the Plaguebringer
was infinitely better than the infamous ‘tequatl update’

Oh, they did? Last time i saw, they were saying that Tequatl was one of the best designed boss encounters ever. That didn’t sound like they realized how many problems are associated with it. Quite the opposite.
Which likely means that Bloodtide coast is going to become a dead zone soon.

Just man up guys.
We guys on Whiteside Ridge decided that we are going to kill Tequatl as a server.
We began training back in October, and after 4 months of failing hard, we finally killed him for the first time last Thursday. It should become a routine in the next few weeks.
All you need is effort and patience. Put in effort. Effort.
Why should we put in effort to do something we don’t find rewarding or fun?
Why should we put in effort to do something we don’t find rewarding or fun?
You obviously shouldn’t.
All the people on my server, all those who show up regularly for such a thing (and those people are 100+ for each attempt) actually find it fun and rewarding to defeat the hardest large scale PvE content in the game currently.
You know, actually achieving stuff.
Ps.: I’m hoping for difficulty between Tequatl and Karka Queen honestly.
Does your server do every single teq spawn? Or just the few after reset? I defeated Teq once. Waited around for an hour, beat him with seconds to spare. And got blues and greens. I decided then and there that it wasn’t worth it.
Will be like Teq.
Cool at first….almost deserted after. They can put any number of bosses in this game. The nr.1 incentive for people to actually keep doing them are the rewards themselves. If the time invested / reward ratio is not good…in time nobody will care. Most people can get the reward items teq drops in less then 10 min of playing….i mean come on…2-3 rares? seriously. Salvage crap.
So yes…for me personally (not talking about everyone) this boss is like a temporary content because i know for a fact i won’t do it for more then 3-4 times or so. Just a waste of time for very low rewards. After i finish him a few times it will be like he was never in the game for me. Just like teq. Haven’t went to that map for months. That’s the equivalent of temporary content for me.
(edited by Rebound.3409)
After reset? What do you mean?
We have Tequatl 2 times a week. The usual ‘waiting’ time – let’s just call it preparations and sorting out groups, laying down tactics for new guys – is 30 mins.
If we manage to defeatet it, it’s guaranteed 3 g 20 s, guaranteed 3 rares, guaranteed 5 champ loot bags. On top of those you have a decent chance for some specific exos, and a small chance for the minis ascended stuff. That ain’t shabby.
But like I hinted above, this is not for the rewards, this is for the thrill of the kill.
I mean, I could just run the Queensdale champ train all day long…
The above gold/items u can do from multiple areas of the game without waiting for hours for the boss to spawn…getting tactics down….etc etc.
Thrill of the kill yes..i had that too…but after a few kills the thrill goes away atleast for me. It’s replaced by boredom.
PS. If u run any high level champ train for about the same time u run teq..u will get close to double the reward (but indeed no thrill).
Bottom line for me personally…the rewards are to low to consider it a treasure hunt or a thrill to kill. Look at any big mmo out there. Major events/bosses always drop something very good, even unique as in u have to kill THAT specific boss to get item X (almost guaranteed random drop/by class if you manage to take him down). That is what makes people come back to try and try again or kill over and over.
If they plan on making bosses hard..they should also plan on increasing the rewards proportionally. In the state it’s now..for me teq is nothing more then an over-glorified fire element. Literally nothing more. They should start thinking about guaranteed exotic drops if they want the majority of players to even consider an “evolved” world boss as something that exists in this game.

I’m one of them.
I totally agree with him, to me the real reward is not what I got in game (even if for about 20 minutes of play the reward is adequate if you succeed), it was hear people screaming in TS after we managed to slain it after all the effort from many people (especially from Bubi himself).
For that I hope that it will be same with the wurm. Even if it take 4 months again to slain, I won’t care (hope less tbh), as long as I will have the same fun working together my fellow WSRers.
Whiteside Ridge
In baruch bay we have our schedule to kill tequatl 5-6 times everyday (and after each tequatl we go to kill karka queen), so every body on the server can enjoy the fight and the loot. And at the beggining it took a server effort of 4 days to organize everybody and create our killing strategy, we failed time after time on those 4 first days. But this is the situation, months after that: a joined and organized server who succesfully plays together multiple times on a day. All thanks to tequatl (and players, of course XD)
About the wurm, we’ll need to see how it works, but if its like tequatl, in fun, difficulty and loot, i can almost assure that we’ll add it into our Baruch Bay schedule XD.

Don’t make them like Tequatl, uck!
Don’t make the Bosses harder with bunch of gimmicks, make them smarter! Have them appear in different places and have them move across the map!
Crush, Crumple and Chump!
Would like to see a monster destroy things as it moves across the map and chase NPC’s and players!
Different Player Rewards
Have a different goal each time you fight it!
- Saving NPC’s,
- Save/protect town & villages, not just killing it!

Interesting. For me, all the recent tries to kil Teq ended up exactly the same – disconnect in the middle and immediate bounce into overflow (and if you don’t have an overflow when doing Teq, then almost certainly you don’t have enough people for him). No fun in that at all.
And the zone is dead now. Noone even bothers visiting it beyond occasional map completion attempts. I’d rather have any new future content designed for a small minority of players not kill another zone as well.

Don’t worry about anything. The TTS Guild is already coming up with potential strategies for the new boss. We aim to be the the World’s First mega-wurm kill. After mastering Teq, we look forward to this new challenge. Then we’ll run him and Teq daily!
I doubt I will be doing it. More zerg content sucks. I avoid champions, world bosses, Tequatl and temple events to stay away from zerg content, then they keep on throwing more of it in.
It’s not the usual zerg content though. Teq for a long while was difficult to beat with a group. It required effort. The other zerg content requires very little in comparison. To each their own, but the Teq fight got a ton of likes over dislikes.
Which server is TTS on? I know blackgate will be doing their best again, as well as Des I am sure of it. I look forward to the challenge.
I personally would very much prefer high end solo content. Something like the tower of nightmare end bit, just harder and more difficult.
I can´t see any real effort in zerging at all, no matter whether it´s “easy-mode”(Fire Elemental) or “hard-mode”(Tequatl). Both are still zerg targets and therefor pretty much uninteresting for me.
Zerging usually implies there is no skill involved and you can just run up and press 1 until it’s dead. This is not doable with Teq as it requires several other components for the fight to be successful. While currently there might be less effort involved in the Teq fight then there used to be, at launch of the new boss there was quite a bit of effort put into the fight and for some time.
As for Solo content. I have no problem with that. But I generally play MMOs to play with other people. Tons of solo games out there for me to play alone.
I hate Tequatl,
Boss requires 100 people, zone hold 110 people before it kicks to overflow. Seriously???
To do the boss you need to queue up for almost an hour. Yuck. More of this not wanted.
The big robot looks more interesting, The video of the wurm and description reminds me of that guild mission where you have to down the three bosses all at the same time.
if it’s going to be as captivating as new tequatl then they should just tell us now so i know enough to book my vacation
“To each their own, but the Teq fight got a ton of likes over dislikes.” – any source on this one?
William S. Burroughs
“Boss requires 100 people, zone hold 110 people before it kicks to overflow. Seriously???”
You hate Teq or you hate how overflow works making the boss difficult because it’s hard to get an organized group? Because those are very different reasons.
““To each their own, but the Teq fight got a ton of likes over dislikes.” – any source on this one?”
Haha. I should know better. No I don’t have a link that proves that statement. Just observation from my server in general. There were a lot of hate posts about this encounter when it was released, but it was less about the boss and more about “I’m stuck in overflow for hours just for a chance to fight him and even then I might not get in to have a decent shot”
If there was a better way to circumvent the overflow issue and the coordination needed at the beginning of the patch I think a lot more people would have enjoyed Teq and encounters like these.
Even if a World Boss didn’t require 100 people, the fact that a lot of them still want to do it will cause an Overflow. This is because the game servers can only handle so much players before the CPU melts.
All the people I know and play with (many of them veterans, playing since beta, not noobs like me) just ignored the new teq since day one. So I wouldn’t be too hasty with such statements, Kopper.
Any event that doesn’t scale down to smaller groups is considered an automatic fail by really many players. IMO they should aim with mechanics and difficulty somewhere around the present Claw of Jormag or a bit higher. Just use the scaling, feline censorship, they implemented it for a reason.

Im excited for this but I am concerned that the wait time to fight the boss will be long. I am going to be running off the dangerous assumption that the new boss will be as hard or harder than Tequatl to beat the event.
Another assumption I will make is that the wait time for the boss will be long because people will line up in the zone at least thirty minutes ahead of time because they dont want to be in an overflow where killing it always fails, they want to be in main where “wurm kill squad” is and get the win.
There are a couple of things I think they could do to reduce the wait time. One thing I believe would help is increase the number people allowed in the zone before hard cap. It is my opinion that if you let more people in then they wont have to line up as early since there will be less chance of being refused.
Another option I think would work would be make the boss easy enough to kill that it can be done in overflow as well as in main. If they would just add two maybe even one more turret at the Teq encounter I think that event could be won more frequently (a higher percentage of times, not ALL of the time.) than it is currently. Even better, make the event dynamic so that it is slightly easier in overflow than it is in main. For example, put an extra turret in overflow at the teq encounter, or have one less head spawn in the wurm encounter.
I know most of you reading this are probably thinking “gees its not even out yet and already people are complaining, wait and see how hard it is before you say something”. Im trying to get started early since there is in my opinion a problem with the wait time with there current world boss. And it hasnt been addressed and its been around for 6 months and I feel if no one says anything, that they’re implementation wont change with the new encounters they put out. I love the Tequatl encounter and I think its fun, but I hate standing around mining minerals waiting for the boss. Id like to get there and get it done with only 15 min of setup time.
TLDR; More hard content, yes please. More content that I have to wait around 30 minutes to play, I vote no. You can have it both ways if the developers are willing to make some adjustments.
FYI: You don’t have to be part of a specific guild to beat Teq. Just log onto the server where you’re going to play.
There’s always waiting involved. Then again, when I raided in WoW, there was waiting involved there, too, because people would usually log on an hour beforehand for preparation and such.
Waiting for Teq is really no different.
“All the people I know and play with (many of them veterans, playing since beta, not noobs like me) just ignored the new teq since day one. So I wouldn’t be too hasty with such statements, Kopper.”
Duly noted. I have had and continue to have the opposite of that though. The people I encounter, play with on a regular basis, and various guilds I am in all loved that fight. Many did not like the overflow issue but the fight and boss itself they did like. To each their own.
I think it’s perfectly ok to have different sized encounters. You can have larger encounters, and you can have smaller scaling ones. The problem becomes when the smaller ones aren’t as exciting or difficult as the larger ones. This is a point of contention for many as I see it and something AN needs to work on. (I think they are)
I play on one of the higher populated servers as well so this could have a lot to do with it. I know that there will be tons of people going for the kill. Especially the fist kill.
Teq gets killed every day multiple times on multiple servers… Some like it some don’t…
So just because some players don’t like it there shouldn’t be any more bosses like Teq?
Get over yourself!!
I don’t like JPs, so should I go around in the forum going on about it? No I will continue to ignore them and let the people who like JPs enjoy them….
There is so much to do in this game why complain about stuff other players clearly enjoy?
All the people I know and play with (many of them veterans, playing since beta, not noobs like me) just ignored the new teq since day one. So I wouldn’t be too hasty with such statements, Kopper.

Do you realize that at some point, all dragons will be like Tequatl?

Yes, that was also mentioned in the same interview. Basically, they like it from a technical perspective, with the way the whole event flows together and scales up to remain challenging for large numbers of players.
But later on in that same interview, they also said they recognised that there were “accessibility” issues with Tequatl, and I suspect they mean things like constantly running into overflows, players having to camp for hours in the instance beforehand etc. Tequatl is HARD (and personally I do think his rewards need to be buffed a tad, like perhaps a guaranteed Exotic once per account per day), but I think ANet wants to see groups of people always showing up to fight Teq when he spawns (like the other World Bosses) rather than everybody just camping in specific servers/overflows after reset and then having Teq all but abandoned for the rest of the day afterwards. It basically means that anybody who isn’t in TTS or happens to play at or near reset would never get a decent chance to kill Tequatl, which is what I believe they want to address.
Penguin, mostly abandoned on every server and done by a single group of organized devotees? Would be a shame, I like the Claw. Shatterer needs a serious revamp, but does not deserve a tequalization.
Maybe they will rethink a few aspects of their strategy, won’t put the whole event in hands of a few turret players, will think about the completely wacky possibility that somebody does not want to use the forums and travel between servers in search for a zerg as it kind of breaks any sense of immersion and takes up way too much time for somebody who, I don’t know, has to work?
Really, would skillfully scaling the event down so it can be done by 20-30 players, with about the same effort, really hurt its quality? Or was it just too hard to prepare it properly?
I really didn’t care about the teq for the last 3 months, sometimes I laughed passing by when it stood there, untouched and decomposing peacefully. However, it would be a shame to lose Claw the same way I have lost the big old zombie.
