It’s been a few weeks since the update that finally put an end to players abusing the Mesmer ability Illusionary Leap, and I have to thank the balance team for their tireless efforts which have made Guild Wars 2 as enjoyable to play as it is today. I think we can all agree that forcing skills to pedantically follow a sentence-long tooltip two years after release is a noble endeavour indeed.

As a small token of my appreciation I have decided to put together a brief selection of similarly-bugged skills which are also currently being exploited to full effect by our player base. Hopefully this should help the devs with their heavy workload, as I’d like to see these fixed just as fast as Illusionary Leap for the good of the game.

Engineer

Grenade Kit: Grenade skills throw two grenades untraited, contrary to tooltip descriptions
Healing Turret: Heals nearby allies indefinitely, unstated in tooltip description
Cleansing Burst: Base effects affect allies within the radius, unstated in tooltip description
Detonate Healing Turret: Causes a blast finisher at the location of the player rather than that of the healing turret detonated
Fire Bomb: Triggers four times over the duration, unstated in tooltip description
Rocket Boots: Player will travel further than the 900 stated range with movement speed boosts active (e.g. swiftness)
Toss Elixir H: Potent Elixirs allows players to receive two boons (one at 1/5th base duration), contrary to tooltip description

Warrior

Rush: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description, and can be affected by movement speed bonuses
Shield Bash: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Dual Strike: Can hit multiple opponents, contrary to tooltip description
Riposte: Will block all attacks over the skill’s duration without triggering the Riposte unless certain melee skills are used by an opponent, contrary to tooltip description
Chop: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Hammer Swing: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Greatsword Swing: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description

Elementalist

Dragon’s Claw/Vapor Blade/Lightning Whip/Stone Shards/Ice Shards/Flamestrike: Do not require a target, contrary to tooltip description and will still proc cast-based benefits (such as healing from SoR)
Dragon’s Tooth: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Magnetic Grasp: Can be used to leap to a target long after the immobilize has expired, contrary to tooltip description
Ride the Lightning: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Lightning Touch: Can strike multiple targets, contrary to tooltip description (“Shock your foe”)
Lightning Flash: Can be used while stunned or disabled, not stated in tooltip description
Fiery Rush: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description

Thief

Steal: Does not require a target for some on-use procs, contrary to tooltip description (quite who are they stealing from, then?)
Infiltrator’s Strike: Does not require a target, in fact the full skill chain can be used sans target without ever entering combat; can be used to port to various z-axis locations despite 600 tooltip-stated range; can be cast mid-evade
Disabling Shot: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Heartseeker: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Cloak and Dagger: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Pistol Whip: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Whirling Axe: Reflects projectiles (not stated in tooltip)
Consume Plasma: Grants stability (not stated in tooltip)

Necromancer

Spectral Grasp: Chills target regardless of whether it connects or not
Signet of the Locust: Affects nearby allies, not stated in tooltip
Summon Flesh Golem: Grants life force upon death and can be activated without a target, not stated in tooltip
Summon Bone Fiend: Autoattacks are projectile finishers, not stated in tooltip
Summon Flesh Wurm: Autoattack is a projectile finisher, not stated in tooltip, can be activated outside of the stated 1200 range
Lich Form: Grants 30 seconds of stability, not stated in tooltip

Ranger

Swoop: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Hornet Sting: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Monarch’s Leap: Does not require a target, contrary to tooltip description
Counterattack: Will block all attacks over the skill’s duration without triggering the Counterattack unless certain melee skills are used by an opponent, contrary to tooltip description (this one very specifically states “an attack”
Whirling Defense: Reflects projectiles rather than blocking them, contrary to tooltip description

No doubt I have missed many more, hidden combo fields and the like. Feel free to add your own so we can get PvP cleaned up pronto.

i think it will take them some time to properly update the skills tool tip description to reflect what those skills actually do.

perhaps we can help too!

That spite to the Ileap fix is real. I cant blame you Blissless though, that fix was awful and these should get the same treatment as Ileap did.

I’m really impressed by the amount of effort you put together for that whole list of bugs.

Let’s hope this thread will get its rightfully attention and have all those unintended bugs fixed.

I agree that those skills not matching their respective tooltip doesn’t seem balanced at all. The bug fix to Illusionary Leap is the first step in the right direction. I am also very thankful to the balance team for their continual effort and QoL improvements.

Here is the reference to the iLeap bug fix listed in the previous patch note:

“Illusionary Leap: Fixed a bug that allowed players to swap places with their clone after it was destroyed.”

Clearly the fix to the iLeap bug, which is contrary to tooltip description, sets the standard balancing approach for the rest of other skill bugs across other professions.

I also look forward to the rest of those listed bugs corrected in the near future. Thanks for the effort, Shimmerless, you have saved the balance team a lot of time with these compilated bugs info!

The Tooltips are correct. The Q/A team has already done passes on Tooltips in the past. The most recent change to iLeap fix is a bug fix. Please refer to my post in the above for its reference on the bug fix.

Oh, not at all muffin, I’m suggesting that they follow the lead taken with Illusionary Leap and change the skill to match the tooltip. I know, I know — sounds like a lot of work compared to just rewriting tooltips, but that’s why we’re here to help support our devs in getting their ‘vision’ of the game on track.

Most likely, it would now take 2 more years to fix all this exploits.

I think, while we w8-ing, they could start banning players for using this unintended effects. Exploiting is against Rules of Conduct after all.

hmm your tears are so tasty. Here is a few you seemed to of missed so I’ll post them while you wipe them tears away.

-Diversion: clones will run to the target and then explode, contrary to the description.
-Temporal curtain→ Into the void: pulls foes past its location contrary to the description.
-Prismatic understand: only grants aegis or protection or regen contrary to the description.

I’d go on but this is pretty pointless to start with.

If they did that it would change gameplay completely though… Many skills (such as the eles dragon tooth) get just as much use with no target as with one selected. I don’t see how it would benefit the game to make these skills specifically require a target in order to activate…

Also I like muffins.

Oh wait, I just realized if they fixed Death Shroud to match the tooltip, we’d be able to heal through DS since isn’t listed in the tooltip.

That is the whole flipping point of this thread. The “bugged” illusionary leap was a great way for mesmers to try and survive in the AOE spam fest that is tPvP… Now they just as well delete the class as a whole instead of these needless bugfixes (read nerfs) that keep happening which is shafting this class every month or so.

Hehe, the game would be so different if all skills would work exactly as descriped on the tooltip. A lot of other mesmer skills would function a whole lot differently. Like…

Portal: It would actually have entry and exit portals, making it work only one way. No more portaling people inside keeps and towers, except if the mesmer first makes the entry portal out and then walks inside and makes the exit there.

Null Field: Significant boost for this skill. It would remove ALL boons from enemies and cleanse ALL conditions from allies. No pulsing though.

I think those two were the most interesting ones :P

Warriors can attack after using Impale without getting their sword back via Rip first. This is a clear oversight and should be fixed.

The same goes for Bladetrail, obviously. If the way backwards is blocked or a thief is hit, warrior should be forced to buy a new GS.

The same goes for Bladetrail, obviously. If the way backwards is blocked or a thief is hit, warrior should be forced to buy a new GS.

Don’t let anyone know, but we are the masters of Weapons! We inhale all kinds of metals from the air (obviously from air as it has a lot of these because we keep hitting everything with our weapons, like 100 blading iron nodes) and our body reforms these materials and we magically poop new weapons when needed. We can also hide some of these weapons between our abs.

So basically what happens when warrior throws a bladetrail greatsword is that we throw it, then we pull another exactly same looking GS we have pooped earlier from our abs and swing that. And then when the GS comes back to us (if it comes), it perfectly slides between our abs to be ready for another bladetrail holster weapon, brilliant I say.

It’s pretty much the same with swords, except we hide those in our armpits.

If you are wondering about our axes, we can bend time and space (thats what we call our hair) and make new when ever we need. Therefor axe throw is no problem either.

We are never left without bullets either because our drops of sweat are bullets. Oh and the more angry we are and the more adrenaline there for we have the stronger we pull the trigger when shooting Killshot. Thats why it does more damage, we basically give it a bit more thrust with out anger.

And umm… Arrows… those are our hair from our back. That is the reason why it always looks like we pull arrows from our back even though we don’t have quiver.

I’m not quite sure if I missed anything…

Oh yeah. Beside being the masters of weapons, we are also masters of horror stories. We have advanced our tale telling so much that we can tell you a very scary story in a split second, and the closer you are to us the better you hear the silent finale and therefor stay feared way longer. And because the story is packed in a such fast package it sounds like we shout FEAR ME!

Banners! I’m not quite sure where they come from, but I suppose the small invisible dwarfs keep throwing them up in the air when we so desire.
