I don’t get all the warhorn hate. It’s the best thing about this disappointing elite spec.
Giving you access to water and lightning fields outside of staff is already enough to warrant using – or at least thoroughly trying – it. All the skills they’ve previewed seem useful at least, if not particularly new or exciting.
The shouts and class mechanic on the other hand seem really lacking – especially in pvp/wvw but also in pve.
In exchange for blasts you’ll get fields. Which means you will be much more reliant on your team.
Both scepter and dagger have 2 blast finisher though on the main hand, and there’s always EA and the arcane heal.
What if they change it to: Automatically overload the attunement you are currently in (doesn’t put overload to cd and doesn’t incerase your current att cd)
I think that this will fit more and can be a lot more useful.Or something like eles have long been calling for (seen a lot of signet suggestions like this):
On use, refresh the cooldown of all your attunements.
I believe the whole purpose to the elite spec (and most of the new ones) is introducing a risk factor. You gain something bigger for a risk (like for Chronomancer, their Continuum thing can be broken early and nullifying its play). Refreshing attunements has no risk factor involved.
As for the elite, could we have an elite that has to do with playing elementalist and be useful to the class instead? Like an elite that reduces by 50% the recharge on your next attunements and does a cc/dps effect according to your next attunement.
stop moving all the posts to this forum. We all know the devs won’t read all this kittena.
IT’S MERGAGEDDON.
I don’t think I could follow this 30 different trains of posts and replies all put into this one mega thread if I had a week to sort it out.

I think this thread will probably go directly go in the trash can soon since it’s impossible to follow all the conversations anyway.
Dialogue would have been nice, they could have replied something like:
“Hi Elementalists, we understand you are concerned about the new elite and scepter/warhorn combo, but rest assured we want to make these as potent as possible and will improve them according to your feedback.”

Since when MH dagger has two blast finishers?

That would be an upgrade. Elite specs aren’t suppose to be upgrades, they are suppose to be horizontal progression.
The wiki can be edited by anyone, and I don’t police everything (nor do I have to), but that text doesn’t have sources so it’s not as accurate as the specialization article itself. Your quote, therefore, stands inaccurate.
Plus, overloading attunements DO change the way eles play.
Love it how you still try to hold on to your “inaccuracy argument”.
Check the source of that one you posted as being most accurate, here is where they pull it from:

Then check the interview:
PCG: So philosophically, with creating these specialisations, was the idea to fill gaps a profession wouldn’t normally be equipped for?
Colin: Yeah, I think that’s a fair description. We definitely looked at each profession and asked what are some of the things that we think this profession doesn’t currently do that we’d love for them to be able to do? What role do we want to try to expand on that they can’t do, or what gameplay would be really awesome to add to this profession? (….)
And now you completely ignore the post where I say that we are still getting the exact same play style of being heavy in group support to say they are delivering?
Little advice: Read more.

Yup, this topic has become a mess.
They just clustered everything together and said “kitten it”.
I am calling it now, tomorrow the Points of Interest will say how ANET is excited that this specialization generate such a huge topic with everyone praising it and that this is awesome and the community loves it!
Oh and I am also calling it now, tomorrow will come and the reveal will show how much more inefficient this specialization will be in what we already do a ton of and we will have the White Knights new argument be:
“Well numbers aren’t final, wait for the HoT release!”
And once HoT is released, those that actually like elementalist will be stuck with a crap elite specialization and White Knights will just move on to another profession because they don’t give a kitten about the class or will just start complaining with us trying to hide that their blind fanboyism was part of the reason why we got stuck with such a bad elite spec in the first place.
trying to hide that their blind fanboyism was part of the reason why we got stuck with such a bad elite spec in the first place.
Since ArenaNet doesn’t release anything unless they’re completely sure they’re gonna go with something, I think that pretty much says, that it’s pretty much too late to get a totally different elite specialisation or other weapon.
That’s not to say that it’s completely out of the picture, of course.
Regardless, considering that not everyone is all negative doesn’t automatically mean that their opinion is worthless. Everyone has a right to complain but also everyone has a right to be excited. And everyone has a right to change their viewpoint.
Calling someone a fanboy or white knight is a sign of a weak argument. Well… in my opinion anyway.
Ingame Name: Guardian Erik
Eh, maybe. With Elementalists getting shouts, you could potentially have front-line Soldier rune/gear boon-sharing, shout-condi-cleanse elementalists like you have with some Guardians. They may not be in heavy armor, but they could sure act like it.
But why would we want to? If I want to play a front line melee toon I go guard or warrior. What is lacking in the class is more ranged options, giving us say a pistol would have rounded out the class much better.

Aliera Zero – Guardian / Reaver Zero – Necro

So where’s the front line thief or mesmer? Why try to create a front line ele spec rather than round out our ranged options, especially given its probably only useful in 1 game mode that is neglected by anet.

So many people are complaining about the elite skill and claiming Elementalist doesn’t have any good elites at all…
I’m still happy with Tornado. And now we get FIRE tornado! We can even have swiftness and protection while channeling it?
Spin to win, my brothers. Spin to win.

HAHAHAHAHA…Anet listening to ele community feedback…that is a good one!
There was a red post on this forum once…….ONCE…
I was just trying to put some positive vibes back into this thread..
And I actually do like Tornado
I’m sorry you don’t

Honestly, it’s not about liking/not liking a skill, but rather its effectivity. Tornado is just so far beyond Rampage and Lich, it’s the weakest transform in the game.

Conceptually Tornado is cool, IMO.
But Laraley is right, the skill is very lackluster in its practical use.
A specialization should be, well, specialized. The problem is that this seems to be another ‘jack of all trades’ instead of fulfilling a specific role.

Pretty much summed up the Tempest perfectly.
Bravo.
I love Ele. My favorite class of all- and I have and play all. But I have to say…. I am VERY disappointed. This is all they could come up with?
Mesmer gets Chronomancer. Oh, does that sound like fun; can’t wait to try it. Necro gets Reaper. Looks and sounds pretty sweet as well. Dragonhunter for Guard? Druid for Ranger? Hey, they have possibilities.
And then this. Let’s overcharge some elements (which, TBH, sounds cool, and I’m sure I can make it work even with long charge/cast times) and then give it some shouts. Shouts? On an elemental magic wielding wizard class? Oh, and the the description says ‘close range’. Yes, because the squishiest class in the game needs to get CLOSER to the danger…. and don’t we already have that with dagger? I honestly don’t care what the weapon is… I was just expecting better after the previous specs were released. Now it makes me dread what they’re gonna do with Thief, War, Engi.
They couldn’t do something like a summoner? Eles can already call elementals… why not expand on that? Be neat to not just have a fiery djinn hanging around but maybe a dragon- or demon- looking thing made of fire? Or even add an element. Instead of shouts, why not sonic based magic? A massive sonic boom would be an awesome attack. Or make it so the ele could combine elements. kitten , that could be fun. You could do it in the original Guild Wars, after all.
But no, we get shafted with this.
I’m honestly worried now about what’s coming for the other classes. And I know I will not be using the shouts or warhorn. If I wanted to do that, I’d go play my Guard or War. C’mon, we’re Ele’s. WE WANT TO NUKE STUFF. And we get lousy shouts.
My poor Ele’s. sigh
Both scepter and dagger have 2 blast finisher though on the main hand, and there’s always EA and the arcane heal.
Scepter is unviable currently while dagger has only one blast.
Okay, I don’t usually post, or complain, but I feel the need to now.
Thank you, ArenaNet, for giving the Elementalist community something none of us asked for. A warhorn? Shouts? Seriously? I have been playing since beta, and my Elementalist is my main and only level 80 (because the other classes aren’t as interesting to me) and the only reason I will even consider getting the Tempest is for the Attunement Overloads. I think I speak for a good portion of Elementalists when I say that we were expecting more. Want to give us a close range spec? One word for you. Sword. Make us feel like a bad-kitten warrior mage, not someone who yells and toots their horns at their enemies.
I have already pre-purchased HoT, but now I kind of wish that I hadn’t.

Lich is a liability at the moment – it’s pretty much instant death in PvP if you use it.
The artwork clearly shows the warhorn but it also looks like a sword on the right hand of the ele.
I was kind of expecting them to give wards for eles. But shouts are cool too I guess. I hope the spec is good because the weapon choice is disappointing.

Will never happen. after all, they have ignored any feedback coming from the Necro forums for the 2 1/2 (almost 3) years the Necromancer has been sub-par, and are ignoring it to this date.
Ok I haven’t sifted through the long thread here to check but is overcharging restricted to in combat? Otherwise people are mostly going to camp an attunement ooc. Which would mean they could precast that long overcharge before they enter a fight and reap the benefits from it which have to be pretty dang good for something to have that long of a cast. Did I miss anything that would prevent this?
Oh, but they have communicated. Sweet Gaile has (reasonably!) told us to watch the livestream, while Rubi has responded arguably less sweetly on FB: “what specifically is sad about it in your opinion? The new skills? How they behave? The animations? ~RB2”
I’m rather sure this wasn’t an actual question, though.
I think it’s obvious nothing will come of the complaints, tbh. As I understand it, “merged feedback” might as well be code for “ignore and don’t bother with this”.
Looking forward to a live stream on how ‘the community feedback was awesome, you all loved it’. Oh well, at the very least this has taught me to manage my expectations.
Wow…they really killed this thread. Nearly 1500 posts merged into a complete mess.
My biggest concern is how this new specialization will work with ranged playstyles. With the overload elements being caster centered and the shouts obviously very melee oriented and damage based as opposed to buff based, i just feel the spec won’t bring anything to staff or ranged scepter users. Hopefully they have a trait that makes the overload elements targeted so that i can carry on playing the staff playstyle i love with the tempest spec i like the sound of.

Since Patch Tornado is at least for PVP and WvW most valuable Elite Skill. Just trait Air and Water and you nuke everything with it, get healing and vigor etc. Tornado is since a long time pretty awesome if you know how 2 Play it.

Are you sure you are talking about tornado?
Just had a look at the Tempest and christ does that look like a boring kitten effort by Anet lmao… I’ve been poised ready to insta-80 an ele based on its elite spec, but not going to bother now.
On the other hand, I’ve always mained a Ranger so if it turns out Druid is just as sucky then I guess I won’t be the one with the last laugh :’)
another elitist thats judging the elite spec before seeing the live stream, how unoriginal of you, GG
another elitist
I see wot u did ther m8
I don’t need to see the livestream or read about any more of the traits to know that I don’t wanna play an elementalist with a sodding warhorn and more support skills :’) GG not being given sword.
I want everyone claiming this elite spec “sucks” or “is completely useless” or “that its making them not even want to buy the expansion” to swear an oath that they will never play it. We are having a live stream today, and I bet it’s going to showcase some traits that are going to make this spec a lot better than you think it is. Mark my words, Tempest will return dagger/x to PvE.
They always do this and I’m glad since their are always special snowflakes that think what their saying is so different than the 10 other threads on the same subject. Merging of threads happens all the time in other class forums back in the day there was a thief one that blows this or any other class forum thread out of the water.
From the other day we had “Why Tempest won’t be used in PvP” because interrupts(and like 4 other pointless words) which had already been brought up anyway by PlatinumMember.
“What do you think about tempest”(which would have reasons why people hate or like it in it obviously" but we still get a thread like…
“Why the Tempest Hate”

I feel sorry for op thinking his opinion is fact.
I personally don’t play elementalist but warhorn looks pretty cool
hes an elitist, i’m sure he hates on newbs, only does speed runs full zerk with 80s stacking in a corner in dungeons too
You guys are sad and desperate, ganging up on someone like that

Lol, i remember, i was also that optimistic once. It didn’t last.
Remember, remember, 15th of November
Mark my words, Tempest will return dagger/x to PvE.
Oh I’m marking your words and rest assured there’s a very active speed clear community who will be doing the math on how actually useful it will be for PvE.
That said I don’t need to have a live stream presentation on a dog kitten to know it stinks and I shouldn’t pick it up. I have pre-existing knowledge and thought that tells me all I need to know about it.
The same is applied here. I don’t need a stream to explain to me why a front line Elementalist won’t work, I have game play knowledge that understands why current front line classes work and enough of a preview to know that we’re not getting anything that gives us those necessary front line tools.
But stream in 3.5 hours! I can’t wait to be able to factually discuss the new Tempest skills/traits and this ridiculous, “Wait and see!” argument no longer can be used.

Great, a PvE only specialization then? Boy so glad they really tried to give us something designed for a single game mode and not something that could be used in PvP and WvW, cause you know, there is no elementalist that plays those modes.
And also, in PvE anything works. I usually run D/D in PvE because I like the weapon pair, even if I know staff is far superior.
And as Kodiak said, we will see the math soon enough, but it is really digging it’s own grave when the specialization is offering most of its stuff for a single game mode.
But stream in 3.5 hours! I can’t wait to be able to factually discuss the new Tempest skills/traits and this ridiculous, “Wait and see!” argument no longer can be used.
Wouldn’t get my hopes up. Next argument will be “numbers aren’t final! Let’s wait for the release before bashing on it! Trust ANET guys!”
I generally agree oZii but man when they merge the way they do, it’s like shuffling the deck based on post time so the whole thing becomes this jumbled list of cross conversations pretty much impossible to follow.
tbh I’m more interested in what overloads will do for conjure specs.

I wouldn’t necessarily say “trust anet,” they are human after all and we all known how fail-able humans are. “To err is human”
Still, I would say take what you see with a grain of salt. There are a lot of factors we don’t know, of which the numbers are just one. We haven’t had a chance to play it in a beta to get a feel for it. We don’t know what to expect from HoT content, either typical open world or their ‘challenging group content.’ We have some pieces to the puzzle. Enough that we can tell what the picture is, but not enough to determine if it is totally fugly.
If they approach elite specializations similarly to how they approached the recent play testing of the revenant, we could see some interesting tweaks to them based on beta feedback. However, that remains to be seen.
