Problems with Engineers and Legendaries
What I want to know is why did they away the throw wrench animation for predator before I had a chance to use it its like…hey were asking for more animations not less!
It’s been nine months since the dev response. Let’s face it, they don’t care about engineers. They just throw a bone to the engineer community to chew a bit while they focus on other classes. And Personally I don’t care nor check other forum classes but possibly they have about 3 classes that they attend while the others are just nerfed slowly or ignored. But whatever what do I know.
I once looked over every class forum and counted up the number of dev posts. Mostly, the classes were fairly even, with Engineer actually having more than classes that are perceived to be more favored; problem classes seem to be the ones most talked-to.
Ranger had far and away the most, but that was mostly because one of the staff members talked shop.
All the time.
A quick glance over the other seven profession boards, as well (limited to the first three pages, because I’m not spending four hours looking for and counting red posts again for a game I don’t even play anymore – I’m only even on the forums to keep an eye out for more turret bugs to add to the list that I don’t expect to ever shrink, at this point) shows that they’re not getting a ton of dev attention on their own boards either.
Then again, none of the other professions have two threads on the front page (one of which has been such a fixture it may as well have been stickied) dedicated to cosmetic issues that’ve been commented in once or twice by staff and then ignored.
Bump so it stays on front page and people don’t have to make new threads. Still keeping me from getting a Legendary!

-its a shame. Legendary Auras should stay when switching to a kit.
-The Footprints are a joke compared to others. A Quip or a Predator got like 3 footprints you cant even see in most places while others got 10-15 shiny footprints.
-and pls change the way a predator is holded. right now its like a machinegun a a shotgun. but it has the looks like an Sniperrifle. So pls give it the animation of the Warrior F1 skill on autoattack

They are only fireballs if you’re using the triple grenade trait.
Anyway I mainly posted to yet again ask for some sort of response after 10 months of ignoring all of us engineers!

Theres a good reason that we are all complaining. The legendary you worked your butt of doesn’t display any hint or trace of being there., when using kits of any sort. They’re pretty much the only viable utilities integrated seamlessly in the engineer proffesion. There isn’t much you can do without them, since turrets are a lost cause. This is a serious issue!! Now I recall a certain flamekissed skin who was immediately removed from the game and altered. Because it bared a certain likeness to human t3. The complaints voiced were that the skin should have been unique to that race, or people worked their kitten off to obtain it and now it was obtainable for anyone with gems. Now why is that their complaints were listened to directly? Are we not players as well!? We might be kit wielding engineers but that doesn’t make us a 2nd class citizen. Imagine being thrilled about getting that one thing you ever wanted and it turns out it doesn’t turn out to be everything you wanted because you don’t fit in the range of people worthy of using it? I demand new effects! Why should we bare this suffering? Why has nobody even bothered with doing something about it. This is a problem which could be dealt with in an easy manner.
And while I am at it, look at the engineer class and really think hard about what you guys envisioned it to be like. It might be a mish mash of different aspects from different classes., But that doesnt mean it should perform any less then the others. Check out the turrets will ya

Aw, come on, you want to know why Anet ignores this post? Because it makes no sense!
First of all: legendaries are not the end game of GW2. Period. Don’t mistake the content with the reward. And engineers can do the content there is exactly the same as anybody else, and get the reward as anybody else (though there’s less choice of weapons for sure).
Second: if you don’t ever use the weapons you have, you are doing something wrong. Rifle is amazing, and way cool, and guns are very useful with blinds, fire, and shield as an offhand is mandatory for wvw.
Third: most legendaries are awful. Why would you want one? find something that better matches your character.
Fourth: Wait. Is this post for real or are you just some bunch of trolls? Engineers are awesome! the sixth class I try, and i leveled it in no time from all the fun I had playing it.
I agree too on this! Voting up for it too! And i just want to add that a class that uses pistol and rifles ONLY its supposed to be more specialist on them than a warrior for example… 20% of weapons are shotguns and all others are rifles.. This “Hip shot” just looks ridiculous with a tiny thin rifle… Yes an engineer is focused on creating machines (turrets, bombs , explosives etc ) but come on.. lets not make him like a granny who chase chickens with a hunting shotgun…… An engineer in real life talking heh!

Now I’m no game dev, but I’m pretty sure the issue is that kits are treated as separate weapons, and so swapping to a kit effectively “unequips” the weapon. On swap effects work with kits, for this reason. However, seeing how a while back kits were patched so that weapon sigils are applied, it doesn’t seem like a technical issue that can’t be overcome. One of the upcoming blog posts is “A New Way to Explore the Looks of Guild Wars 2 ,” but I highly doubt that’ll cover kits in any way. I’m actually surprised at how this hasn’t garnered more attention, since the fix seems a lot simpler than most other angry forum demands, and really has no negative impact. I guess not a lot of people are vocal about it because so little people actually have legendaries on an engineer.
Simply displaying the legendary aura and/or footfalls while using a kit would be more than enough.

I guess I should add more to thread since I got a Legendary. Flameseeker Prophecies is pretty much not noticeable at all. No aura, no footsteps, completely invisible when you use a kit. Yay.
That’s alright, I got lucky rather than waste time saving up for it.

Still not sure what I want to make, either Quip or Predator, but I really hope that we hear something back from Anet before I finish. You can already use grenades and have a quip/predator aura.
Still, I’d still like to at least keep the aura/footsteps when using kits without having to resort to using expensive/long cooldown potions.

If I do finish my legendary, I’m probably going to resort to that. With the bugs still in game, it probably isn’t as big of an issue as many people (including myself) make it out to be. Would still love to see it changed though.
Soon we will be able to have this threads aniversary.

The problem is that these are the most limiting of all builds, and they are the most limiting and generally the weakest, by design. Either way, I am not sure why you mention that here, unless you are here to promote the “hobosack” and speak out against those who would like to be rid of them.

I actually run a support build centered around elixirs, and it’s not very limited. To me at least. I feel many kits are boring, and I enjoy the play-style of using a weapon instead of a kit much more. I understand that it may not be the meta. But that does not make it lesser. In dungeons or fractals i always end up retraiting and getting a kit or two. In PvP i guess full turret builds are used to great effect.

I know they’re optional. This has been the core of my arguments against the class being balanced around them, in fact, because I don’t like them anyway, and generally haven’t used them at all.
From release to Dry Top, I went full Turrets, or Turrets and Gadgets, with no Kits at all save for sporadic ‘will this help my build?’ testing. It’s only been a few weeks that I’ve been using Kits at all – and I still don’t like them much.
So, I’m not going ‘I can’t see my legendary because I have to use Kits,’ I’m going ’it’s nonsense that a class is balanced around something that, in this cosmetic-driven game, overrides cosmetics, as their non-overriding abilities are intentionally weak because of the availability of their overriding abilities, according to the Class Balance Philosophy put forth by the staff themselves.’

There are exactly 2 builds without kits that could be called effective: P/P HGH condi and Rifle SD Zerker burst. Both are niche builds for PvP and that’s about it.

Wow such misinformation, this is the issue with theorycrafters, they constantly spout numbers and theories but guess what,numbers and theories used like this can only be applied to OPTIMAL situations….which are very few in PVP/WVW.
The only kit I will touch these days is elixir gun, I run P/S gadgets in WVW and P/P turrets in pvp. I run elixirgun/turrets in either when I need my “supression” build (also great for champs in PVE)

I 100% agree with you, I’m totally against the kit swap “meta”. Hell the kits I do use other people laugh at me for (FT/EG). People rea really underestimating the power of turrets these days, and gadgets has some cooldown issues but can still be fantastic for eclectic builds.

People don’t really get that there is a variety of builds to choose from. They just pick whatever is the “best” and hope it works for them. So I can imagine you got trashed for playing a “bad” build, but it’s whatever works best for you. It’s kinda funny to see how many people believe there’s only one good build out there.
If people can play their gadget/pistol builds and look good, why can’t I play my kit build and look good? Am I not allowed cuz trading looks for enjoyment? How would you feel if it was the other way around and only kits got the cool effects? I get a legendary I wanna feel legendary. Exactly my thoughts. Cosmetics shouldn’t be so limited, we should be able to choose racial kits, racial turrets, and have a number of cosmetics tied to the newer version of the Wardrobe system they are coming out with in this patch to change the entire thing like an outfitter would. We should be able to choose how our kits/turrets/backpacks look with a click in Wardrobe and really the cosmetics of legendaries is only the tip of the iceberg on what they could be doing to improve the look and feel of engineers.
It’s something we’re absolutely aware of and want to address in the future, one of my main characters is an engineer so I feel ya on this one. My poor quaggan backpack is visible like 2% of the time I play as I kit swap, never mind my weapon skins.
We’re currently focusing our engineering (programmers, not guys with net guns) resources that could work on solutions to issues like kits/skins on major systems that address issues higher priority and wider reaching like lag in large battles, LFG, custom arenas, spectator mode and so on but this issue is absolutely on our radar.
As always, please post your ideas of what you’d like to see solution wise, we love to see the fun ideas y’all come up with too!
