So because the build you don’t play all the time is what got the biggest buff, these are bad changes…seems legit
Just saying…didn’t get nerfed at least. Could be a PU Mesmer or Skullcrack Warrior… the the tears would be justified..But the PU tears would be very sweet. Bottled.

I play plenty of other build, but this just didn’t feel right at all, I was waiting for some major changes that would give guardians that something that they really needed, and with a coy little smiles the man proclaims “well, thats all for guardian”
My build just got much stronger with these changes x3

Please identify what Guardians really needed that they didn’t get … just because Anet doesn’t meet your expectations doesn’t mean they didn’t hit the mark on the patch.
From where I sit, SW’s just got interesting. Granted, I don’t think Med’s needed more love but it would be stupid to complain about being buffed don’t you think?

People have been asking for a multitude of changes, from changes to sword 1, to the much demanded changes to the useless shield, theres a long list of quality of life changes people have been asking for, but spirit weapon buffs and meditation buffs shouldn’t have been at the top of the list

Frankly, what people have been asking for is irrelevant if it doesn’t align with what Anet wants the class to be. SW’s have sucked and been an irrelevant part of the Guardian design since the beginning of the game; Sword #1 and Sheild have not. Whether you feel that’s something not on the top of the list doesn’t mean buffing them wasn’t a smart thing for them to do. QoL changes are quite stupid and insignificant when compared to making a whole class element useful.

All the changes are great. The elite buffs are going to be interesting. But hey, people tend to complain even when something is good.

Granted the changes that did happen were nice.
However there are still quite a lot of abilities & traits that are under performing or just stupidly bad.
I still count about 18 (give or take) traits that are useless, 6 (give or take) utility skills nobody will ever use outside of extremely gimmicky situations & 7 (give or take) weapon skills that could stand for updates/reworks to make them work better for their given role & or user friendly.
So were the changes bad, no. However they could have done allot more.
However they could have done allot more.
No, they obviously did everything they had time to do. In case you haven’t noticed, they did work on 7 other professions and the volume of changes they made to those classes were similar to what we see here. We got an equal share, just like everyone else.

Oh I agree with that.
Given the amount of time, personal & resources they allotted they did all they could.
But there are allot more things that should be done. Most of the guardians problems have existed since open beta.
It’s not only true for guardians either. Every class has some issues that have existed since beta.
So were the changes nice? Yes. But there is so much more that could be done. Heck a large number of good ideas have been created by the community. They could look through some of the more popular ones and use them.
However they do it further fixing the classes is better for everyone & a happy player base is more likely to expand and spend more money.
Glacial Heart still a kitten.
Glacial Heart cd is still far too long. I’d personally make it 7 seconds.
From what everything sounds like on majority of the updates on all classes is the fact that ANet is helping the Team and Solo PvP builds. Tell me who would run a Medi Guard build in WvW or PvE.
Why would you run that build? If the spirit weapons stayed constantly up like the necro minions then it would be a nice build to solo PvE areas, but then again I already solo PvE.
Love to hear feedback on how Medi builds would benefit us. I run GS/Staff mainly.
These changes are pathetic. The renewed focus change is awesome and I’ll take it, but admittedly it wasn’t something we really needed.
All of the other changes are pointless and there will still be nobody using spirit weapons, glacial heart, or the tomes.
And meanwhile we’re still among the worst in mobility, snares, and soft CC. Although to be fair, I guess I was expecting to be disappointed.

This exactly. I have come to the conclusion ANET themselves don’t know what they are doing when it comes to making the guardian more dynamic or dps guardians.

Agree. Nothing here makes me want to change any of my builds. Most of it is irrelevant and could have been skipped out.

… No, it’s definitely needed. Maybe not so much the mobility itself as the ability to stick to a target without them being able to get away so easily.

Or being able to keep up with the rest of your group without resorting to runes of traveller or a staff+retreat+ boon duration. I would love to be able to roam in WvW with my Guard like I do with my War, Thief, or Ele but the lack of swiftness and general target stickiness or gap closers/creators is just a killer. You get kited so easily and avoiding a fight is impossible if the enemy chooses to chase. Escaping a fight is nearly impossible while stopping your foe from escaping is pretty kitten difficult most of the time.
More mobility is definitely needed. It wouldn’t take that much either. if most of our gap closers didn’t require a target or if they were ground targeted it would go a long way. Maybe a trait that can give us more access to swiftness on certain skills so we don’t have to rely of specific runes or staff.

That’s a matter of opinion. What is needed is determined by the devs and the class concept. There are other ways more inline with the concept to achieve what is lacking.

Maybe if the devs played the same game as us then they’d understand, but right now I get the strong impression that they have no clue about what is needed.
Right …. devs have no clue. I forgot about that standard response. That’s what happens when I let my subscription to “Clueless MMO Player Monthly” run out.

When a developer is livestreaming dungeon content running a scepter confusion build on mesmer or a p/p thief that uses his heal while he’s at full health, I don’t really have much reason to have faith in their knowledge of their own game.
About glacial heart the effect can crit (and it hurts).

Clearly this is evidence that every dev at Anet is completely incompetent and should stop everything they are doing, handing over development of the game to players immediately. This must have been in an article I missed in CMPM.
/me goes to renew subscription RIGHT NOW.

Spirit Weapons become usable now since i don’t have to trait 4 points in zeal to make them stay alive for using active use. Shout Builds are already quite potent, and Amplified Wrath Power condi hybrid builds work well. The only thing really needed are decent ranged options, and Shield buffs (Reduced CD).
Redgen Furyblaze – Charr Guardian – [SHD]Shade Warband – Tarnished Coast
Lerious Warhowl – Charr Warrior – [SHD] Shade Warband – Tarnished Coast
Guardians being incredibly popular in every gamemode, practically mandatory in pvp, i would expected to see nerfs to the popular builds and buffs to the unpopular stuff.
Instead, both got buffed.

Let’s go at this another way: Obtena, what do you think is needed for the Guardian? (Or was needed before these changes were announced?)
Also, you’re very keen on reminding people that the class concept for the Guardian is to stick to melee combat, but we have no real ways of sticking to a target. You have a way of dismissing arguments that can be used to counter literally every argument. And if you can counter every argument, it’s as good as being able to counter none.
If this discussion is to go any further, you’ll have to chime in with what you think is needed, exactly what you think the announced changes mean and what you think the class concept of the Guardian is intended to be and how and why it’s being actualized right now.
For me it’s simple … we need ways to keep people in melee range. Mobility isn’t the only way to do that. Hammer #5 is a good start and it’s not related to mobility at all. It’s also enhancing stuff we already have like knockbacks, immobilize. The other aspect that isn’t used is enabling team to do those things for us, like the support role should do.
Increasing runspeed is a non-starter. Anet want us in the fight, they want it hard for us to disengage.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
Merciful Intervention was buffed. Mobility for guards (did you know, SW count as allies?)
Glacial Heart was buffed. Now procs even sooner, with a better uptime (20% compared to 13%. Also, people forget that this is unblockable, and deals physical damage)
SW can also help. Send your boop squad after someone and either: stay on point, pincer with your SW, or just stand there because pve mobs don’t run away.
If you’re really grasping at straws, pop your Tome of Wrath, quickness from #4 then Knockdown on #5 and whack away, or pop Tome of Courage and stun.
And that’s just from the patch. Other options include sigils and runes, or even scepter/staff.

Is not matter of opinion. They sold the game to me with “you can do want you want with every class” well, Guardians CANT stick to a target, that make them useless if someone JUST IGNORE HIM and run away.
Guardian NEED soft CC. Look warriors. They are tanky, supportive, melee like us. But they have A LOT a LOT of Hard CC, Soft CC AND mobility in EVERY weapon.
Is not matter of opinion, Guardians need SoftCC or more mobility. We haven’t cripple and we are the most melee class, that is absurd.
And btw, we can’t build condi damage because the lack of conditions.
For me it’s simple … we need ways to keep people in melee range. Mobility isn’t the only way to do that. Hammer #5 is a good start and it’s not related to mobility at all.
Hammer #3 is pretty easy to dodge even if you didn’t want to do it, if someone isn’t running straight you are going to miss it. Without immo is pretty hard to land a hammer #5 while running (to keep someone in melee range). The only way to do it properly is with JI. And tbh hardCC has short duration in general, is for that we need SoftCC, because it has longer duration by default.
Hammer #5 should be like Hammer #4 in warriors, you should can cast it while moving. That don’t will make it op, and is pretty annoying to use right now in terms of fluency.
The issue for sword and hammer is that they are not immortal, thus sharing the same grievances with pets in general. They suck at AI and melt instantly in AOEs
it means THEY got me for " neg criticism in clever disguise".
Know that it has been fun and I love ya all.
From what everything sounds like on majority of the updates on all classes is the fact that ANet is helping the Team and Solo PvP builds. Tell me who would run a Medi Guard build in WvW or PvE.
Meditations are useful in small scale wvw. In PvE it is definitely useless.
for there you have been and there you will long to return.

…
Did you even read what I said earlier?
…Anet want us in the fight, they want it hard for us to disengage.
I am fine with that, but some of the things we are lacking are the ability to “engage” the fight, if people can simply walk away from us.
The other side would be to balance the risk/reward on damage/survivability on being so melee oriented in a overwhelming ranged target AE and condition spam play style it has developed into.
Even bunkers have problems surviving that. We are reaching a point of ineffectiveness…not there yet, but I feel like it is over the horizon.
There are a few posts talking about how pointless a medi guard is in group fights, especially at high end play. PvE will laugh at you for bringing a medi guard, and in wvw the only time you are medi is small team/solo roaming for sudden ganking.
After that you are typically an AH type survival build, reliant on allies within shout range, or a full glass pve spec where dodge is the only thing you need and we are not worried about pve mobs kiting us.
…Anet want us in the fight, they want it hard for us to disengage.
I am fine with that, but some of the things we are lacking are the ability to “engage” the fight, if people can simply walk away from us.
Agreed, but it seems unlikely that runspeed or teleports (what people generally refer to as ‘mobility’) will be the answer to fixing engaging and sticking to a target in PVP based on what Anet has said about how the class is intended to work. Area control would be one way to address people simply ‘walking away’ AND be inline with how the class works, as would enhance supporting team with similar tools.
(edited by Obtena.7952)
But something as simple has a soft symbol slow, chill, or other form of CC would have went miles to prevent disengagement. Which is something that happens to us often. Other classes can disengage at will. We, on the other hand, are forced to use Traveler runes for speed or gimmicks like teleporting to inanimate animals.
Give more, gain less, is how it currently stands. Staff mobility on 3 is lame. They could have also revered that stupid change/fix and we’d be happy although still don’t want to be pigeon holed into a particular weapon for mobility.
