why everyone getting 25% speed...
I was just about to open my own post, so i just leave my opinion here!
I would be very happy if guardian could get one himself. We could rename the Minor grandmaster to " On the Hunt" and make it give swiftness on certain things, or just flat 25% movementspeed, like for the chronomancer. With the chronomancer change guardian will be only class without permanent movespeed, veven engi got it with Kit swaps.
I think changing the mino grandmaster for dragonhunter is nessecary anyway, since it only really benefits longbow users, it should be changed to something that benefits more build, since there will be people that pick dragonhunter but dont want to use the Longbow.
You don’t need speed when you are a “dragonhunter.” That’s ridiculous.

cause heavy armor is.. heavy. and we don’t live at the gym like warriors do.
Yea we dont need speed we are in a good place, everyone who want to hunt dragonhunters will just walk on our traps and commit suicide.
Maybe it’ll be +25% move speed while wielding a shield
Probably because Guardians have Retreat! as a utility skill.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

I would give all shouts for a 25% movement trait anytime.
Probably because Guardians have Retreat! as a utility skill.
Well, the other classes also have great mobility like the warrior, with greatsword + sword/warhorn, and they still got a trait with more movementspeed while wielding a melee weapon. Same with the other classes, they also got skills with swiftness and still got a Signet or a trait.
just look at this:
- Time Marches On – You move 25% faster. The duration of incoming movement-impairing conditions is reduced by 25%. (Cripple. Chilled, Immobilize)
Adept
- Delayed Reactions – Interrupting a foe slows them. (3s of Slow)
Master
- Danger Time – Gain additional critical hit chance against slowed enemies. (30%)
Grandmaster
- Lost Time – Every 3rd critical hit will slow your target. (2s of Slow)
God kitten thats almost perma slow…how to fight that….I was hyped for dragonhunter but all other classes get serious buffs….I am hoping they will buff our medi or shouts to give us resistance or else we will be like necro in pve – almost non existant.

not permaslow at all.
mesmer hits and illusion hits are counted separately in trait descriptions.
so they have to hit you 3 times, which usually takes more than 2 seconds, and they have to be crits. so if they have 50% crit rate, they have to hit you 6 times on average.
scepter is slow, staff is slow, it basically comes down to GS and sword for decent application uptime, really aint that crazy.

From the look if you might actually able to get a 100% critical chance on a Slow target. Once you got a Slow on your target you literally Slow your target back to back in an infinite loop with just your GS AA alone.
But lol guardian gets staff and shout swiftness, so just sacrifice all of your damage and offensive utility for those, right?!

Keep in mind slow has no effect on movement speed.
…and if the Mesmer is sitting there auto attacking one target for longer than 2 … Maybe 3 seconds then something is wrong.
Also.. All those grandmasters are tempting, so you shouldn’t expect all Mesmer to be trying to slow you. (Just us dastardly lockdown Mesmer)

You should also keep in mind that a Mesmer doesn’t need Cripple or Chill to kill a target. On the other hand this Slow is way more dangerous than those 2 on Mesmer. It makes Mesmer’s enemy has a hard time to use their skill to counter him.
On the matter of AA, if you have mastered your GS or at least seen great players using it then there is no doubt that GS can pull out a lot of hits in just a matter of seconds with the combination of Spatial Surge, Mirror Blade and Mind Stab. The Slow here isn’t just there for itself but it also boost your Critical Chance by 30% and getting critical hit by a Mesmer GS for every hit isn’t funny.
But I am not saying “It is OP, NERF IT!” without actually seeing it in the final form in action but I am saying it has the potential to be OP.
I admit I am jelly, they can finally break the chains of traveler runes when they go roaming

Maybe add a 25% speed increase whenever ‘Wings of Resolve’ is used?
It isn’t perma speed but at least it gives us access to swiftness outside of traits, weapons, and shouts.
Or just give us another Virtue: Virtue of Speed

Very good points, and I don’t dispute that.
I’m saying the threat of “permanent-slow” isn’t as profound as some may think.
Sidenote: Also, so many Mesmers all over Tyria are messing themselves over this bouncing/piecing, perma-crippling clone-obliterating bows y’all have.

Not sure how to fight it but I do know one thing … slow has nothing to do with your movement speed.
i would not make myself feel better by counting on this or that anything we will get later…
having 25% movement is always nice…it’s like a dream come true for me…
and yea, i would trade all my shouts for that…i would delete all my alts and stick with my guardian for life…if only… T_T

Just make a signet with +33% passive run speed on it, DH just got everything good about a Ranger but better, why stop with a +25% signet.
should just give everyone a 25% speed boost
should just give everyone a 25% speed boost
Agree, then remove all the +25% traits and skills, leaving swiftness and super speed as the only speed buffs.
This is the one thing that always bugged me about my Guard. i run as fast as molasses. you know what I enjoy the most about my warrior? with her GS, she has perma – 25%, plus 2 weapon skills that move her instantly across the battlefield (one on a real short CD), and with an additional utility skill…..that’s 3 movement skills.
My poor Guard is just running behind everyone….well, not really, i sacrificed my armor slots for traveler runes. just wish my guard was like every other class and didn’t have to do that.
Maybe for the time being they could give us the 25% movement speed whenever under the effects of ageis, but I have a feeling that the trait might have something to do with a shield like someone said.
I admit I am jelly, they can finally break the chains of traveler runes when they go roaming
Probably because Guardians have Retreat! as a utility skill.
This is a joke, right?
Nah. It’s a relatively low cost skill that gives a good bulk of mobility. It provides swiftness instead of a 25% boost, with all the pros and cons of that. But it costs no trait points or rune slots, and doesn’t require a specific weapon either.
I find it a plausible contribution as to why Guardians don’t have access to an always-on 25% movement speed ability.

If you call the cost of a wasted utility skill low cost…
As i mentioned in the tome thread – a speed passive on Signet of Courage might actually tempt folk to use it above Renewed Focus in some cases ( at the very least you can switch it quickly in and out if you need to hike somewhere ).
Really they could even apply it as +20% non-stacking as an AoE too to make it guardian-esque and worthy of elite-hood.

Real heros dont run….they stand.
Warriors will complain that Guardians get around better.
Rangers will complain that Guardians do it better.
Ele’s and Engi’s will complain that they can’t counter kite us anymore.
As much as I want every one of our weaknesses taken cared of, we need to be inferior one way or another. A lot of traits, skills and utilities will be worthless if we had a speed buff trait.

Not even shoutbuilds use Retreat, it has an extremely high cost since it takes a whole utility slot and removes your own survivability when competing with consecrations, meditations and other actually powerful shouts. It needs to be traited for shorter cooldowns and an Aegis heal to make up for that. It is one of those skills that look good on paper but when you go out there and get in combat with other players, you notice it doesn’t work.
Outside of mapping in PvE or blocking some telegraphed attack by an AI-mob it has not much uses, unlike a permanent, uncorruptable +25 minor trait. With Lemongrass, Melandru Runes that is a permanent -90% cripple, chilled and immobilized. With Guardian you can reach a 6 second window of 98% if you have traited Purging Flames.
I’m happy the Mesmers get it, but stating freaking Retreat is a good reason to keep movement speed from Guards is a joke.

Guardians absolutely have permanent swiftness capability. Take “Retreat!” and a staff. Bam, unlimited swiftness.

Are you talking about PvP or WvW? “Retreat!” is extremely useful in WvW since most of your time is spent running in circles. It’s a staple to my WvW build along with a staff in my second slot. It’s also really useful for soloing in PvE.
Also, no, I notice that Aegis working all the time. I don’t use a shout build in PvP anymore, but when I did I ran “Retreat!” and it worked just fine, especially for getting between points quickly.

You miss the point. Staff + Retreat – thats a weapon (you must stand in symbol for 4,5 sec to get full amount of speed) and 1 skill vs 1 trait. Trait gives more diversity plus its passive so noone can strip it away from you like swiftness boon.

I agree, but it’s false to say that we don’t have the capability of permanent swiftness. I think it would be nice if we had the 25% boost, but that would mean we might feel forced to take traits in a line that we otherwise wouldn’t have. That’s the main reason engineers take Speedy Kits instead of their 25% move speed trait.
Still, you don’t have to stay in the symbol of swiftness AoE for too long to maintain perma-swift. Balancing that placement with “Retreat!”s will give you it even if you just run through it.

You can choose runes and skills and you’r not forced to use 1 skill and 1 weapon and traveler rune.
To repost here. I think giving Guardians a 25% movement trait will push us over the top (spvp). We’re essentially thieves without the disengage and better sustain. I’m VERY hesitant to want to give something like this to Guardians. Maybe as an elite signet since you’d have to give up a skill for it.
Guardians dont need more speed, other classes need less. Warrior and engi both gain perma swift from adept traits…..yeeeeaaaah thats to much. people never use swiftness buffing runes because theres no point. you either have perma swift or you dont

I don’t know, I never had any issues with it. When I’m running GS/Staff Guardian, I can outrun nearly everyone else between the perma-swift and the greatsword leaps. I tend to never take the 25% move speed traits on any of my characters that can give themselves swiftness, because that +8% that swiftness offers will make a difference albeit a small one. The only class that I wish had better access to swiftness is the Mesmer because they have no movement speed traits, and the only thing that gives them any sort of speed is the Focus #4, which is not ideal because:
1) If you already have swiftness, then you do not receive additional swiftness from it
2) If you receive from running through it, then you do not receive any additional swiftness from anything else until the boon ends, and
3) You can’t run through multiple times/stand “in” it to get more swiftness.
Heck, even Necromancers have better access to movement speed than Mesmers. Even though Guardians don’t have the 25% trait, they are still one of the “faster” classes.
Probably because Guardians have Retreat! as a utility skill.
What, are we French now?
Johnny Johnny – Ranger (Ehmry Bay)
Hárvey Wallbanger – Alt Warrior (Ehmry Bay)
I see a lot of shout support guardians not using retreat at all other than for aegis shattering effects.
Pretty much every utility skill, rune, even the staff and/or speed sigils (which i use) will be obsolete.
Anet isn’t going to nerf build diversity any more than they have to.
What I do see is what the above comments mentioned. An Elite sigil that’s caters for people who want 25% speed increase. The sacrifices would be apparent but people would still use it because, speed.
Active- Use Wings Of Resolve in a targeted area.
Passive- Increase speed by 25%
Now, convince John to fit it in Tomb of Courage > Sigil of Courage (I think he’s changing it)

Nobody running meditations, or any other potential offensive build for that matter, will ever run with a staff and Retreat. The cost of doing so far outweighs the benefit.

I don’t disagree. However, do you think that Medi Guards (I’m assuming you’re referring to sPvP) are going to take the 25% movement speed trait instead of what they build right now? For all non-medi guards, though, it’s not a bad option.

Yes? Being able to have extra movespeed in a trait will eliminate the tradeoff between mobility and damage for rune sets, which means you’d finally be able to run strength/pack/hoelbrak runes and still be able to keep up with the enemy.
I was just about to open my own post, so i just leave my opinion here!
I would be very happy if guardian could get one himself. We could rename the Minor grandmaster to " On the Hunt" and make it give swiftness on certain things, or just flat 25% movementspeed, like for the chronomancer. With the chronomancer change *guardian will be only class without permanent movespeed, veven engi got it with Kit swaps. *
I think changing the mino grandmaster for dragonhunter is nessecary anyway, since it only really benefits longbow users, it should be changed to something that benefits more build, since there will be people that pick dragonhunter but dont want to use the Longbow.Guardians absolutely have permanent swiftness capability. Take “Retreat!” and a staff. Bam, unlimited swiftness.

They are removing stats from trait lines so 25% moving trait should give us more diversity in builds also rune diversity.
Honestly I wouldn’t even mind if it was a grandmaster major trait in any trait line. Just let me use different runes please!
Just make a signet with +33% passive run speed on it, DH just got everything good about a Ranger but better, why stop with a +25% signet.
We got 1900 range, rapid fire, and a shot that gives stealth on short timer? I must have missed that part of ready up!
Dude do you even play guardian? Comparing Retreat skill to a 25% moving trait is ridiculous.
Ah, if we’re comparing it solely to the trait, then it favours the Mesmer. I thought we were talking about profession-wide movement options, where the 25% movement traits are usually quite limited in scope. (Necromancer one only works in Death Shroud, theif one only works in stealth, elementalist one only goes up to 10% in air, I think?). But often these classes get their 25% movement boost from a signet passive, (Locust, Shadows, Air) which costs a utility slot, much like retreat. (There’s a difference in that you don’t actively use the slot for passive signets, but you also only get a 25% speed boost, not 33%.)
The other thing about Mesmer is that it had rather poor access to swiftness. Off-hand focus gives a fair amount of swiftness, but it doesn’t apply when you’re already under the effects of swiftness, even if you’ve only got 2 seconds left on the stack. So it can’t be used to maintain a swiftness stack, only start it. Beyond that, the other option was Signet of Inspiration, which is relying on a random proc to consistently grant swiftness.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

And how annoying is it when you place your Focus #4 and just as you’re about to go through it your SoI procs a swiftness. It makes me sad
