Any opinions on what the best shield skin is for your mesmers?

I’m thinking Wall of the Mists might be contender – figuring I should figure it out now to buy/craft before the expansion hits and prices go up.

That depends on your overall style…since my mesmer uses Tormented weapons, it would be Tormented Shield.

Overall, i think the Fractal Shield is pretty nice, but since i don’t do fractals i will never have it.

Fractal skins aren’t guaranteed either. It’s RNG if you get one and even then WHICH you get. You could end up with the harpoon or trident and never see the shield.

You could also look into the Wupwup skin if you’re going for something purple. The Zodiac skin is pretty good as well.

Post a picture of your mesmer and I will give some more suggestions.

Ofcourse whenever we argue about skins it’s always our personal point of view.

The 3 shields I like most:

1. Flameseeker Prophecies
   The Legendary is quite a big shield. I really like it to have shields that cover your character. The effect (blue light and blue shining surface) of the shield if drawn is extremly great. If the shields are viable I will definetly build this legendary.
2. Pact Fleet Shield
   It perfectly matches my mesmers colors. I used all kinds of colors from dark blue to turquiose and from dark green to green. This shield really matches my character so this is my personal #2 (pic related)
3. Ghastly Grinning Shield
   It’s really easy to combine armor with that one because it’s black. Black does not kill any color and so I really like that shield for its color and its really great unique effect!

Is this for you to use, or are you just looking to buy them up to resell them?

If it’s for you to use, I’m pretty sure the HoT trailer showcased some kind of “clock shield”, which was in use by the character using the new mesmer specialization (chronomancer or whatever they want to call it). So maybe you’d want to just wait for that one.

Otherwise, I dunno. Wall of the mists is probably a good bet, maybe the chaos shield, eidolon, or lovestruck shield…

Shadewort and shield of the moon might also get popular since they have a more sylvari theme to them, and the expansion will focus heavily on the sylvari.

I would think the “showcased” skin would be one of the new legendaries, or perhaps a the latest set of BL skins.

It’s ridiculous that the horrible clipping issues haven’t been addressed.
I think the skin itself is awesome, but even if I had it unlocked, I wouldn’t touch it in its current state.

I already picked up the Mordrem shield skin in preparation, not for everyone but it goes with my tribal look.

If pink and translucent means it’s perfect for Mesmer, then I suppose any bullet made that’s pink and translucent should be promptly fired through a Mesmers head.

Similar sentiments for any overly tacky/gimmicky shield.

Mistforged Hero’s Shield ftw. Each to their own.

You could also go with the guild tower shield, purchasable with commendations. Or even the Guild Defender from the TP. It will look nice with the OMFG emblem on it.

Torment Shield is the only skin i feel fits Mesmer, unfortunately its ridiculously priced because BLT and limited time.

Mistforged might do if I need to use shield but I am not expecting it to be a good weapon anyway.

I hope it won’t be useful. Putting shield on a mesmer is the stupidest thing Anet ever came up with. Another proof that they have no clue what the class is. I guess the whole mesmer thing was just added to shut the GW1 players up (they’d have rioted if no mesmer was added to GW2). Maybe the devs who created the class are gone by now.

Tormented shield because i use ruinc sword/tormented shield on my mesmer from gw1. it was one of my favorite looks from the game.

No one knows what the weapon skills are.. Too early to say that it is a bad idea right? The exaggeration is real….

Tormented is my favourite. I also recently bought the Super Shield skin, not that I think it’s particulary nice but IT SHIIINES.. couldn’t resist. I got all other mesmer super skins except the pistol so why not get that kitten shield too right?

Wall of the Mists…without any doubt.

I am getting Shield of the Moon, without a doubt. IT was part of my Sylvari’s personal story, so it fits perfectly. I’ve been wanting to use that skin for the longest of time. Keep your pink shields.

You continue to make me giggle. Personally, I want the dark skin back. Before the wardrobe release I had the pvp alternate version of the Shield of the Moon which had large thorns on it. It was removed when wardrobe was released.

I like the Seraph, Priory and Coleoptera shields.

I feel like mesmers would look better with a round buckler-like shield than something heavy like a kite or wall. Seems more eloquent and goes with the clock theme.

Sadly, I dislike most shield skins in GW2.

I enjoy the Diamond Aegis Shield but since I don’t own GW1 I won’t be able to get it. Wall of the Mists is okay I guess but I’d rather have something “solid” as a shield even when playing Mesmer.

I’ll probably end up with a Seraph Shield (silver) although the texture is pretty crappy.

That Sclerite shield goes perfect with my evil Mesmer

I’m surprised you didn’t consider the Dreamthistle skin sensei… to match your staff.

My Mesmer uses weapons with fancy particle effects for maximum clone distraction (speaking of which, when are our clones going to be fixed so they hold offhand weapons again?).

I’ve already got Dead Stop bought because I love the skin, but have never used it as it doesn’t fit either of my existing Shield users (my Engie uses animal based skins and my Guardian uses crystal-based ones). Was planning on maybe using it on my Warrior whenever I actually get around to making one, but its a definite possibility for my Mesmer now that we’re getting shields. Having a swarm of clones with grinning headstone shields would be pretty cool.

Surprisingly, there’s not that many other options for shields with effects, so I’m not sure what I’ll use other than Dead Stop (I usually have 2-3 skins per weapon per character).

The Dreamthistle Shield is awesome and I’d use that in an instant, but I sure as heck can’t afford to buy it. This is one case where specs getting new weapons well after a weapons introductory price is basically putting them well out of my reach (another is the Zodiac Greatsword, which would be amazing for my Necro, but again, price).

I guess the Ley Line Shield is a possibility. Still a bit pricey, but not completely ridiculous. Normally I wouldn’t like to use a shield with a giant hole in the middle of it, but since I kind of doubt Mesmer will actually be using the shield as a protective tool at all it wouldn’t really bother me in this case. The same way using pistols without barrels (oddly enough, also like the Ley Line Pistol which I have on my Mesmer) doesn’t bother me since its shooting magic and not bullets and wouldn’t need a barrel in that case. I should probably decide if I want to go that route and buy it ASAP if so, before the price goes up, since most of the other Leyline weapons are above 100g.

If not that, then maybe the Peacemaker Shield. Its got some neat particle effects on it, though I do try to avoid having much purple on my Mesmer as he already wears purple armor (well, purple / lime green / maroon) and I like my weapons to “pop” compared to my armor rather than blend in.

Still sad no dual pistol….

Pistol yeah or at least daggers or something? They’re duelist/deceptive/ninja ish right?

I see mesmers as a spellblade class of sort, so to me, shields fit right in.

I was also sad to see no dual pistols. Oh well, maybe next time.
