Name 2 things you hate with mesmer
1) To have to pick certain runes (meaning a dps decrease)in order to have speed out of combat.
2) Scepter #1 chain.
Everything else is fine for me (well I don’t like mantras being your main source of damage modifiers, but I can live with that).
I kinda wish Compounding Celerity also gave +5% movement/second while out of combat up to 25%, moved up to Master or Grandmaster and changed to +20/35/50% movement while in combat based on Illusions.
Would be really strong, but also worth the spot in Master/Grandmaster Inspiration.
1) Illusionary Leap’s clone getting stuck in place if there is a slight slope between you and your target.
2) Illusionary Wave’s knockback more often than not knocking foes (NPC/Player) down on the spot, instead of the advertised distance of 450.
Bonus! (is this “cheating”?):
- A lot of our skills has an extremely narrow cone where you must look directly at your target in order to prevent the skill from going on a small recovery CD (4s). If a player sidesteps ever so slightly, this happens often. This is mainly a problem in how active you are as a player when playing a Mesmer. If you don’t move yourself while using the skills, your character will turn towards the target, but still, I find it annoying. Examples of skills that are troublesome; Mirror Blade, Magic Bullet.
- Mantra cast times are such a drag, nearly 3 seconds to ready up your “spells” while you must just run in circles trying to avoid damage and interrupts, is not my cup of tea.
- Our Elite skills are rather underwhelming. Mass Invisibility is just that, a really long CD invisibility skill. Time Warp is alright, but for what it provides I find the effect:CD ratio to be rather disappointing, and would rather not slot it in. Moa is pretty much pointless. You may take someone out of the equation for a short period of time, but you can’t really hurt them when they can just zip away evading anything you throw their way.
- Deceptive Evasion trait spawns clones on random (closest) targets, instead of who you have targetted. This makes Shatters somewhat ineffective in a lot of cases when there are PvE mobs scattered all over, e.g., WvW. Spawn them on the Mesmer’s target, not some random friendly creature nearby..
- Illusions do not have your buffs, so it is extremely easy for someone experienced to pick out who the real Mesmer is out of the clones around. Just quickly look for the food buffs, guard stacks and/or weapon stack buffs. Can’t really play smart and “hide” in your clones, making them just shatter fodder and not a illusionary distraction.
- Very poor mobility overall, without Traveler Runes I would probably not be back to maining my Mesmer again.
There’s other shortcomings/annoyances to the profession, but I ain’t sure if my Bonus is “cheating”, so I’ll stop with these. My main annoyances are the two I listed by numbers.
Seafarer’s Rest
Uhm…
- I want an “easymode” build like stunlock war. Just one that isnt OP, but still balanced with a diffoculty vs effectiveness ratio. Whenever I want to lose some stress through pvp, I feel nearly forced to go on my warrior x.×. Shatterring just requires so much concentration :P
- need more reliable aoe damage for wvw and pve. I get really annoyed when rlitists tell me to “roll a dps class or gtfo”. And the elitists always say things like that, thinking pur dps is 1k or something.

Lyssa’s Grimoire – a guide every Mesmer should read.
1. Confusing images sound effect. Funnily enough I love the sound effect for spatial surge.
2. Fixed #1 to #5 skill choice per weapon – but this is a game wide issue. Hopefully some day we’ll get the option to swap out weapon skills (with limitations of course), as with utilities.
Hrm, not that easy actually.
1. Mantras having multiple charges. Yes it balances better, feels horrible though. If I’m supposed to have frontloaded utility with Mantras, you have to accept I’ll overwhelm single targets. That’s the point of frontloading, after all. So either single charge, or scrap the concept and give me Illusion-like abilities instead, IoL is interesting.
2. Descent into Madness having a cooldown. So sad. Sliding a slope with enemies could be awesome fun.
1) lack non targeted skills.
Many of our skills require a target which makes it for one a pain to fight someone with stealth, and also a pain to fight in zergs where targets run everywhere, out of range, or are downed (and invul for a few seconds) by the time we get to do something.
Some ground aoe with considerable damage would be welcome.
2)Clumsy mantra’s.
In a metagame where people throw around aoe cc and where burst damage is common, having a 2.75s channel skill that doesn’t even do anything by itself is just out of place. Especially combined with the fact that we don’t have access to stability in any reasonable way.

^ this pretty much aswell.
Tho for the 2nd point I find mantras (now) fine, that they are the only way to gain stabilitiy is abit … meh
for a own list
1. no possibilitiy of getting a passive 25% speed increase (be it a trait or a signet)
2. I think Mind Wrack should be a blast finisher
1. too OP
2. too fun

These are mine.
Still haven’t decided on a runeset for WvW and it stinks that perplexity is probably the best choice for my build but I’ll have to use (overpriced) traveler’s runes or (less effective) centaur runes just to overcome the slowness.
As for mantras, they’re a horrible tease. They sit there looking like they have so much potential.. and every time I use them I find them worse than alternatives. The “3 second semi-self-daze” just makes them simply not worth the bother unless you orient your entire build around them, and you give up too much other stuff to do that.
- the fact that if someone sneezes on my clones they explode into a thousand bits, buff them or at least give me a trait to bring up the health of them.
- the movement issue that so many people bring up i dislike having to run trav in WvW just to keep up with my roaming group.
My clones act like cats, doing their own thing when they want to do it.
They get all offended and disappear whenever I tell them, need them, to do something.

[ODIN],[NaCl] – Tarnished Coast
1. Limited large-scale WvW builds (pet-dependent class with fragile pets, small AoE toolkit, few finishers and desirable combo fields)
If I had to make a dent in the problem… I’d give scepter auto some kind of AoE potential and give clones some better survivability when commanded to shatter, perhaps Stability and Protection. Enemies should think “oh no I should have killed that clone sooner!” and not “it has at least 1 bleed stack and will die. it is not a threat.”
2. Mantras seem to be a huge focus for the devs, but the charge time and comparable weakness vs similar skills in other classes continue to make them a boring, unrewarding line of utilities.
My suggestions would be to give mantras an active effect while charging. Mantra of Pain could do damage on your target, Mantra of Healing could give nearby allies 1-2 defensive boons while it channels. It would make me excited to use mantras and excited to charge them as well.
I haven’t been playing my Mesmer for long but my main problem is:
1. Slowby (Though I’m slowly getting used to the running speed. Traveller Runes aren’t bad, but I don’t like the 15% Buff and Conditimer. For that money I want a rune that I think is totally worth it.)
—
I don’t really have a second one atm, but the main reason my gf doesn’t like Mesmers is
2. Too much pink (Illusions, skills, etc.)
“Dear ANet, nerf Paper, Scissors is fine. Sincerely, Rock”
Elysaurus | Warrior | [LOL] | League of the Legendary | Gandara (EU)
1 lack of condi builds for pve.
2 the need to use some runes to get access to speed, giving up more powerful runes.
anyway, still love it :P
1. Phantasms cooldown on PvE trash. Gimme 1 phantasm that doesn’t die when your target dies… or something..
2. Lack of a power based 1h ranged weapon that doesn’t eat Phantasms with auto attacks.
- scepter
- Long cast times on defensive phantasms
- arcane thievery
1. Them traits that activate on down/rally (does anyone use them?)
2. Lack of Blast finishers (maybe I’m biased because I recently made an Engie and I do a lot of that)
Continue bugs of our skills not working as advertised (not even going to mention the latest iWarden bug where it just stands there and does nothing).
1) Illusionary leap/swap doesn’t work on anything that isn’t a flat smooth surface. Illusion appears in front of you waits 2.5 seconds then walks slowly to target when it should just blink to target. Why do warrior leap works on inclines and rough ground while ours doesn’t?
2) Chaos storm no longer grants regen boon since 2 patches ago.
3) Sceptor skills so slow that they are laughable and easy to dodge. Only worthwhile one is confusing images, but 4 sort of negates that.
4) Confusion in PVE is so bad because developers didn’t think NPC combat mechanics thru (slow attack) to enable confusion to have effect.

1. portal – no range indicator
2. veilbot – veil here veil there.
3. Few AoE skills.. Chaos storm or Mind stab..
4. if you aint gonna portal me, you are noob. (that’s not my?? choise…??)
Someone say game crash must be related to OOM
when you read the log it’s not related to that whatsoever…

OH WAIT! I forgot – mimic’s reduced duration underwater.
1 – Scepter. Awesome weapon that absolutely sucks. Its a hybrid weapon that isnt weak and is good for conditions, but the auto attack is horrendous on so many levels. I wish this weapon would just be melee, since our GS is a Ranged weapon. Melee cleave Scepter, or make the AA like the guardians scepter.
2 – Only one melee weapon!! Makes no sense. I guess this kind of ties into my number 1 with Scepter but kitten , how can we only have ONE Melee weapon?
2.5 – Need more flat damage AOE. A Longbow or Shortbow would suffice. Maybe Rifle or Hammer or something that has power and AOE.
1 – Sword Leap fails so hard when not on a straight terrain.
2 – The fact we don’t have a Pistol mainhand. WTF we are able to use it with only the left hand? Seriously? Could be the decent range weapon we miss so far.
1, sword #3 often not working
2, clones disappear if the target they’re summoned at dies also why do i need target for clone summoning? edit: not from balance viewpoint but I often just want to have fun with clones out of combat
1 – Torch’s phantasm…
2 – Something changed on blink a few updates ago. It works even less if there’s a pixel in front of you. I used to blink on top of wvw towers a lot, to avoid the ton of cc and necro marks defenders throw there. It simply no longer works.
3 – Traveler’s and Centaur runes are great, but I wish I could have some long range mobility without them.
Hi all, The 2 things I HATE most are:
1, NO SPEED, not using runes, have to use Focus skill 4
2, Blink NOT breaking stun
Oh not sorry for using caps
1. Clone AI, and the fact that even the dumbest skritt knows they’re clones.
2. Slowness. I love my mesmer, I really do, but all my other chars are running off into the distance, laughing heartily at his lack of pace (especially the warrior and the speedy kits engi).
1) over all slowness of the class.
Would be great if they switched out the boon duration on signet of midnight for a 25% movement speed buff.
2) overall imbalances of the skills/traits the Mesmer has access to. limiting our viable diversity. Some are too strong and a few are so week we would not even consider using because there are far better choices. Thus limiting average and below-average skilled people to use builds that revolve around a few set traits/skills.
If they for a example nerfed PU back to its original state among a few other skills/traits that overpower our other less powerful traits/skills.and buffed a lot of our weaker utility such as signet of midnight and specific weak traits revolving around specific goals(blind, confusion,). Then we would have more diversity of specks, and more diversity of variations of those specks then the meta.
As many, many others have said, the one thing I hate the most is the fact that we don’t have access to a passive +25% speed boost either via a skill or a trait. Soooo sloooooow!
1) Confusion duration, specificly in PvE. The damage would be fine if a)mobs use more than one skill every 2-3 seconds or b)we could stack our confusions higher and for longer.
2) Clumsy interrupt system. Daze is the weakest CC effect in the game, period. Thats not the problem. The problem is that mesmers have such a minor access to the most minor CC. Mesmers should be MASTERS of dazing and confusion.
An engineer with pistol/shield and a bomb and/or toolkit can daze/knockback and confuse better with less effort.
1.) Clones created by Deceptive Evasion will attack some random Sparkfly/Rabbit/Rat because of proximity, then die rendering that use of the trait/dodge worthless.
2.) Scepter 1. I loved scepter while leveling. Probably tied with staff for most kills 1-80, but something happened along the way and it got really weak. Only place I really use it now is in sPvP or for daily variety killers, mostly for nostalgia’s sake.
Lack of hexes. My GW1 mesmer would see a warrior charging at him and smile a little inside, usually moments before the warrior would try to attack and kill himself instead. Some form of hex that would work in a similar fashion to Ineptitude and Clumsiness from GW1… interrupt the attack as well as other debilitating effects would be lovely.
1. slow auto attack on scepter or staff
2. relatively low amounts of aoe skills. I wanna tag enemies for more bags
Wu Táng Financial [Táng] – YB
1. Illusionist’s Celerity should have been kept as Adept Minor
2. No Mainhand Pistol option for Mesmers
Fojja – Vyxxi – Nymmra – Mymmra – Champion of Dwayna .. and more
Highly Over Powered Explorers [HOPE] – Desolation EU
Think i found something that is actully annoying me more than run speed and annoying condi clear on forever long cooldowns.
Clones doing whatever they want instead of what i want.
Mesmer has no adaptation skill balance for Large Scaled fights…
- Illusions may Die without hitting target..
- so Shatters and Phantasms become more useless..(which are the major archetypes of mesmer class) - Sword#2 and Leap
- While shatters almost useless BF evade nerf let it more useless..(excatly for competitive organized large groups figths) and ofc non-sense fail leap cuz of land shape..
“There Is No Shame In Not Knowing; the Shame Lies In Not Finding Out.”
1. lack of ground target able AoE (why the hell isnt feedback ground target able? makes no sense)
2. Amount of useless traits and utilities. (a lot of the signets and mantras have VERY situational uses and are not useful in 90% of builds. replace the traits and/or the mantras already. stop trying to ram them down our throats.
The range limit on portal
focus reflect trait doesn’t work effectively or properly / bad design on how it triggers makes it mostly useless.
and IMO untraited shatter skills pretty much suck compared to an untraited primary class mechanic of other classes.
<snip>and IMO untraited shatter skills pretty much suck compared to an untraited primary class mechanic of other classes.
I wouldn’t mind seeing a base damage buff for MW, and some sort of rework for CoF.

Eh, untraited guardian virtues suck pretty hard.
Untraited thief steal is fairly useless, too.
In response to the thread:
Sword 2 – hate hate hate how it bugs out more often than it works.
Portal – we really need a timer and range indicator.
1. Mesmer downstate. More often than not the blink puts you further into danger than helps you. Sure it is an almost guaranteed way to avoid the first stomp, but that’s just delaying the inevitable.
2. Lack of sustained pressure.Dont get me wrong, our power / condi burst is some of the best in the game, but i find that our sustained pressure is quite low and if you miss or have your burst dodged / negated it leaves you in a bad spot.
Happy holidays all!
Hmm… tough call… but I think it would be…
1) A
2) I
1. Greatsword skills are so ugly
2. Sceptor 1
1. Scepter – it sucks.
2. Confusion in pve. It’s ultra lame.
Illusionary leap doesnt work on terrain differences
- Ranger longbow auto attack also doesnt shoot through walls.
- Blink doesnt work without line of sight.
- Steal doesnt work when youre out of range.
- Guardian sword #2 doesnt teleport you to foes you cannot reach without jumping.
You cant place a Meteor Storm without line of sight. - Etc.
After a while, only working on flat terrain doesnt really bother me, and its still kind of useull if it doesnt leap to the foe at first. It will still run, and you can delay the swap by like 6 seconds.
