[Poll] Dodge
Double tap? Yuck, no way, never!
Dodge on spacebar – feels more like an action game.
spacebar? i use shift… what do you use for jumping then?
V, easy to reach with thumb and easy to do jump dodges.

On my keyboard I can swap caps lock and left ctrl positions – for jumping I use left ctrl in the caps lock position (so just left of A).
Always used caps lock to jump in games – stems from an old habit when I used to use arrow keys and right shift to jump, right ctrl to crouch.
I always use spacebar for sprinting/dodging in any game, so it comes naturally in that position.
Shift is left free as a modifier key here – too useful for the numerous keybinds. Usually I would use left shift for crouch.
I have a Logitech G 600 (or is it 500?) And the mouse’s wheel has 3 buttons, pressing it down, left or right. I have dodges on pushing the wheel to the right, and it’s super intuitive.

Used to use those tilt buttons on the mousewheel myself, but there are not very long-lasting. Ran through 2 mouses till my new g700 on which i don’t use them anymore since they will only work for a few months.
Currently i use 1 of my thumbbuttons for dodgerolling but i am going to change that, since there seems to be a small delay for the thumbuttons sometimes. It is not noticable for normal dodging but your accuracy to perform dodge-jumps drops dramatically, at least for me. I drop from almost always when only using the keyboard to 50% or so when using keyboard (jump) and mouse (dodge).
/edit on topic
never double tap ;p
and why is the thread mesmer specific? ;P
(edited by Griswold.2054)
Just because is the only thread I read
FYI I opened it because I am thinking of binding it and wanted to know what others are using
I always use shift for it.
In any event, double tap to dodge is really bad, it’s imprecise and can be activated by accident, or not when you need it, etc. Definitely bind it to something.
I like double-tap because it lets me dodge directionally
For folks who have dodge on only one key, does it dodge in the direction you are moving if you’re holding a movement key?

Yes.
The key binding also lets you easily dodge diagonally which seems much harder to pull off with double tap.
Also double tap is a kitten when doing jumping puzzles. That was the original reason for changing it.
I use X for dodging. I like keeping everything close to the wasd, and V is kinda out of reach.
I remember in the 2nd beta, i was doing a Morgans Spiral jumping puzzle race with the guild, I was in the top 3, but when I nearly made it to the finish… i double tapped and dodged of and fell to ny death x.x

Double tap. I dodge none stop and the direction is important to me. I bind everything to left side of the keyboard if I can save a keybind I kitten well won’t waste it.
Left shift.
It’s caused me trouble sometimes when I accidentally backflip off a ledge because I thought I was typing a capital letter in chat but the chat window wasn’t focused but on the whole it’s the most comfortable button for me.
Double-tap (unless at a jumping puzzle, then I use one of my mouse keybinds).

I use V – haven’t used double tap to dodge for over a year. Just takes longer and seriously clumsy command. Same with auto-targetting.
mouse 4 as dodge
jump (spacebar) , dodge (left alt)
Middle Mouse is my dodge.
It was hard to transition from double tapping, but once you do it it’s actually timed better and you don’t accidentally roll off of cliff edges :P
I used ESDF for movement because 1) there are more keys to hotkey and 2) it keeps my fingers on the home row.
With ESDF for movement, I use “A” for dodge. Works great.

That’s….unique and interesting. I sorta like that idea.
i have mine set to shift AND double tap…more options yo

I use double tap dodging during combat situations, but I also have it bound to the . key on the numpad for easy dodge-jumping (I have numpad 0 set to jump) and for use during jumping puzzles where I tend to turn double-tap dodging off so I don’t accidentally dodge off a ledge and die, which has happened to me more than once before I started doing that.
I have two side mouse buttons, and one is bound to doge.

I double-tap cuz Im bad and proud of it. =P (and I have about-face bound to V and stow weapon bound to mousewheel.. so Im kinda out of ideas as to where to bind it)
Ill still beat you all in a JP race cuz I grew up on the Donkey Kong series. (Unless Signet of Inspiration randomly swiftness-es me to my death. X.x

I have V, which I use, and also one of the buttons on my Razer Naga, I think the mouse wheel click.
I use QWES as movement (instead of the more common WASD – easier to reach numbers for skills, and who cares about backpedaling), so I bound dodge to A. Never going back to double tap, I almost never miss the dodge direction.
This thread inspired me to stop being bad and shy away from double-tapping.
Now I keep getting owned until I commit V to muscle memory!
But ya’ll are right, I can immediately see the benefits of having it bound to a button, and with V I can jump-dodge in combat like a boss.

Double-tap for the most part, Spacebar+V if I wish to dodge-jump.
