Revenant - The better Mesmer?
“Gw2, It’s still on the Table!” – Anet
Also Relevant to The Current Gw2 Mesmer is the introduction of the new condition Slow. I think we can expect to see some of this in our new Specialization.
I would absolutely hope so. Hell, I’ve said for months that time slowdown or freezing would be a darned fun addition to Mesmers. Especially if the Mes Spec. is called a bleeding Chronomancer.
Otherwise, drawing on my (admittedly) sparse knowledge of GW1, Revenant seems -overall- like a Ritualist/Dervish crossbreed. Which could be entertaining. My only honest complaint is that -with some of the preexisting issues on our current eight
Professions- it seems a tad … premature to add in Profession #9. Suppose we’ll have to wait and see.
Other 80s: Any but Warrior
I’d bet slow and quickness are going to be important to Chronomancer. I’m positive we’ll get some interesting applications for that new Condi. That new condi-immune boon is kind of cool too.
Time Control: Slow, Quickness, Swiftness, Immobilize.
Shield Phantasm may have the new Taunt ability.
Revenant doesn’t sound like a better Mesmer, that’s a reealllyy out there speculation, but I do see some Staff Elementalist similarities.

I really enjoyed reading the blog post about the Revenant but I got to admit I feel somewhat uneasy with the stuff they presented when considering all existing classes. Not just the Mesmer.
While it might fit GW1 Mesmers, the condition mechanic will most certainly annoy Necromancers. Moving projectile wall? Guardian Sword#3 or Shield#5 say hello. We will have to see the class as a whole and how the skills actually play out. But I’d say that the skills/mechanics they represented are quite sensitive to certain classes. Not sure if this was a smart move on ANets side.
When it comes to the new boons, I agree that Mesmers should better get Slow. And Taunt. I mean, Taunt basically is an upper class version of our GM trait Power Block. ANet, seriously? I also hope that Time Warp will be updated to grant Quickness plus cause Slow. Everything else would be utterly silly.
But yet again, we will have to see how those new boons are distributed. There are interesting options for all classes. But ANet should better be reasonable. I also hope they don’t really limit the new boons to the new specialization. They could help fixing existing issues as well (e.g. Guardian Shield + Resistance, Necromancer in general + Slow etc.)
I hope that the new Profession/Specializations are not the only ones to get the new mechanics they’re so proud of. It would be unfair to have new mechanics bound to the new stuff only.

EXACTLY, I’ve been discussing this with other people and I feel like, What will happen to the base mesmer? (the one we have now, without specialization)
I don’t think the new boons/condis are specialization-specific. I think a major trait/balance rework is on the way.

yeap not the boons and condis, I am talking bout new class specific stuff, will the base mesmer get any love? (Where have you been chaos..imy.)
Yeah, got a pretty good feeling that “Slow” will be available to Mesmer’s new Speciality and “hopefully” to the base Mesmer..
Way back when I made a post how I missed the Fast Casting of the GW1 Mesmer, and thought the GW2 Mesmer should have more access to Quickness. https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/mesmer/I-miss-Fast-Casting/first#post4595165
If our specialty turns out to be a Chronomancer (which is a safe bet), I can see our illutions creating fields of Slow/Quickness
I don’t think it’s similar to mesmer at all. For example the Mallyx-theme was heavily inspired by the Contagion builds of GW1 (gaining conditions on purpose and sharing them with nearby enemies).
they are not here and you feel yourself already threatened…. what kind of mesmer are you?
srsly.
They have nothing to do, nothing similar, nothing to be compared with mesmer.
don’t walk on the mesmer’s name
Temporal Rift
“Slice into the Mists, creating an unstable rift. After a short duration, this rift will collapse in on itself, pulling in enemies.”
It worse then mesmer.
The new boons and conditions will probably start out on the specializations and on base classes that absolutely make sense (ex time warp should absolutely gain slow); then slowly spread as they update old/base skills. Similar to how torment started out on necro/mesmer, then spread to other classes…
Here are a few thoughts I had.
- If we are “Chronomancers”, then I would fully expect slow to appear on our bar.
- The update to the precision of the “Quickness” buff indicates that it may be more common to see it in small doses. Perhaps it’ll also be featured in a few more of our skills.
- Some great combos could come out of this. Retaliation paired with our multiple targets, Taunt, and confusion may force enemies to damage themselves. Torment and Taunt would force enemies to run at us and take damage.
- Some terrible combinations could also show up: Slow and Confusion, for example.
- I haven’t seen anything promising that some of our base profession skills won’t also be receiving small updates or that new traits won’t be available for base professions. There’s a likelihood that we’ll see some of these new mechanics for all Mesmers.
Overall, the new mechanics and rich play style of the Revenant makes me hopeful that the design team will breathe new life into all the professions. I’m excited for the specialization updates!
I have just one thing to say-
There will never be a “better mesmer” so long as the mesmer is a butterfly-summoning pink-and-purple,fabulous killing machine.
Revenant seems fun, but it does indeed not have pinkpurple butterflies.
A worthy mention for Condi Mesmers is that the condi immunity of warriors will be becoming a boon which we can strip.
Who cares if pve mobs now attack twice as long ever 10 sec or not …
btt: I doubt they are compareable. Making a thread about it is also much too early…
“Mentoring engineers / mesmers and showing you what you can do with your fantastic class!
Just pm me for my advice! Always eager to help!”
I think lore wise they are “similar”, they both take power from the Mist and use raw energy: also they have some ability that change the very fabric of reality, time and space. Gameplay wise is impossible to say actually.

i had forgot that old thing.. i was thinking more on old Epidemic and General Hex spam builds.

Every class is currently saying this, though. The better warrior, the better mesmer, etc.
OMG, RANGED HAMMER!?!?!
Kitten yeah! This is like the heavy sibling of the Mesmer. Now I will definitely be making one.
quick update thanks to Dulfy
Four more Revenant skills were revealed in an interview with with Arenanet by MMORPG.
Mace: Searing Fissure – Slam down to create a pulsating area of burning fire that burns enemies in front of you and leave a burning condition.
Mace: Echoing Eruption – You will jump in the air and slam the ground to create a shockwave that moves out with each wave doing damage.
Hammer: Drop the Hammer – Ground targeted AoE knockdown where you target a large area and a giant mist hammer comes down to knock everyone in that area down. 15s cooldown but higher Energy cost.
Axe: Frigid Blitz – You throw an axe in the air, chilling anyone in the axe path. When the axe arrive at your target, you will teleport to it and do a spinning attack that places you behind the enemy. You can chain Temporal Rift (axe pull in) with this skill to gather a large group of enemy and then teleport behind them to do a melee spin.

This would be golden.

Having played all the classes it frankly seems to me like the rev is an combination of the guardian, necro & engineer.
It will do conditions & has many things similar to necro skills.
It will likely be able to do support & has access to an anti projectile wall (one that moved with them) which makes them kinda like a guardian.
It does not have a secondary weapon & instead swaps between legends.

Yeah, apart from RANGED HAMMER ~ ranged greatsword.
I cannot wait to play with that – going to be unlocking hammer skins in preparation.
Now that we saw the stream about the revenant and know it’s skills I’d say YES he IS the better mesmer.
This Post contains screenshots of all the skills which have been shown on the stream.
The revenant is the “Fast Casting” character in the game. Elite Toggels without a cooldown, strong cc skills on low or even without recharge recharge, weapon skills having 3-15s cooldown, boon removal without cooldown, passive boonremoval if traited(any skill 15s icd), has CC on both weapon sets we know so far, has more combo finishers and better combo fields.
If they were to rework the other classes then I’d suggest them to give the classes some kind of ressource mechanic too.

Revenant doesnt sound like a better Mesmer, it sounds like it covers everything you could want under all situations regardless of class :p
Revenant is more like a Dervish than Mesmer. Instead of using the Tyrian gods to buff themselves (better devised) they use the hero’s of the past. All it’s missing is the scythe and Anet would have another Dervish on their hands under a new name.

Altho I see a lot of slow sources already. I WANT THEM FOR MY MESMER!
If anything I would say it is the anti Mesmer. Revenent has had plenty of time to be put together with 3 years of experience in how GW2 is panning out, a very fluid class with lots of interesting and dynamic mechanics and from the sounds of it plenty of support.
Mesmer was the last class introduced and didn’t have time to flesh out before they had to start crunch time to get the game out, it had an interesting idea that is proving not to work in the PvE of the game and is only getting worse as they develop harder pve content, our support consists of feedback bot and we are still waiting for the trait review they said they were going to do back in beta.
Oh but Mesmer is getting yet another off hand weapon now so cool…

PvE is an irrelevant numbers game. Just take the class that produces the best numbers. The rest of the PvE game is the same after that point “Hit monster with big stick!”

I wouldn’t dare to say that until you’ve seen how smart mobs are in HoT. After what I’ve seen from PoI, there are more important stats than just damage now.

Question is are they updating all mobs across all maps, or just introducing them in the new HoT map content. If so, players will farm those that will farm easiest and produce the best/fastest rewards. If new HoT mobs are to tough/annoying, they’ll be binned after their initial fun wares off. After that point its still “Hit monster with big stick!”.

This is so clueless it hurts.
Well we don’t know until at least PAX or release. But I really hope that at least dungeon mobs get some brain update :s

Having watched the video, kitten …
…that’s scary. Almost non existant cooldowns, super fast energy regen, powerful skills…
I reckon it will be overpowered for the first 6months/1year after release in order to sell the expansion, and then promptly be nerfed into the ground. :p
On the other hand, I love the stability changes – might make it more fun for our interrupt builds.
i am not to sure if slow would be a good condishen for mesmers to get, think about confusion, if they attak slower it will be useless

Yeah but some skills which are currently almost impossible to interrupt will become fair game.
Maybe they are also going to change confusion in the expansion – like they are changing stability and tweaking all other boons/conditions.

I actually don’t think about Anets poor balance team that much at parties, I don’t know why you would.

Yeah, no~
CI Mesmers are already pretty strong, and CS can be at times to. So, thanks to various efforts, interrupt builds are already “a thing”. ANet is just supporting it.
Anet needs to stop trying to make interrupt builds a thing, its not going to become a thing.
If you’re having trouble with interrupt builds it’s because you’re bad at it, not that the interrupt build/gameplay is bad in itself. You’ve just confused the two.

PVE is braindead as it is, I do not see the problem making Interrupt mesmers a thing, PVP and WvW is where the skill art of interrupting shines not PVE.
