“colesy’s on rampage today. Slaying casuals left, right and centre” – spoj
Is using phantasms as a strat basically completely useless now? I know the cooldown trait was shifted up 20 points (wtf?), so do those extra seconds basically make it a waste of effort trying to use them as your main damage source?
I mean they’re meant to stick around, but if you don’t spec for IC it makes your phantasmal duelist sit there on a 20 (!!) second cool-down and it’s most likely that they’re going to get destroyed, especially if you stealth and your opponent just hits the most dangerous looking thing they can see. I’d rather not change spec, but if it’s not viable and phantasm mesmers now suck in pvp, I’m not sure if there’s much point actually playing it in pvp anymore.
I mean … kitten . I made my mesmer like a week ago, had an insane amount of fun on it (the kind of fun I had when I first started playing guild wars – it was so refreshing going from a facerolling guard to tricks, deception and ranged combat with lasers) and seeing that anet just whacked it with a giant nerf bat just as I start using it is frustrating.
Phantasm builds were the best duelist builds in pvp, and phantasms now have more hp, so I doubt a phantasm build is not viable. Especially considering that many other builds from other professions were also nerfed.
Phantasms are still good, they just take more effort now. And with a fixed iBerzerker, I’d say you’ll be fine. If anything, they’re a bit more fair in 1v1 pvp matches instead of being ungodly overpowered.
But the fact that the Celerity nerf hit out CLONE generating abilities like Illusionary Leap (Sword 3) and Phase Retreat (Staff 2) really grinds my gears.
#DiogoSilva …..LOL
i know engi were buffed, necro, thief, warrior and guard as well, ele got no nerf and no relevant buff, ranger have some nerf on pet dmg, but a huge buff on the LB.
So tell me where are these “many other builds nerfed” ?

Warrior’s dps traits were all moved to grandmaster, thief has gotten some of its meta skills adjusted, rangers’ pets have less damage, etc.
i get it, you are trolling us, nice try
There is no good reason to play phantasm over shatter anymore.

Hybrid phantasm/shatter/interrupt build. Open up by popping decoy > mirror images > cry of frustration > beserker > wave > swap weapons
Mind Stab should be easier to cast now so you might work that in as an opener before decoy.
Helios. Ask yourself why you are spending 25 points in that build for 15% phantasm damage, and still using a focus (bad choice for phantasm build compared to offhand sword or pistol) when you could spend them in illusion/duelist for a fantastic shatter build, still grab +15% phan dmg from domination if you want it, and suffer no drawbacks from using the focus since you no longer care so much about the phantasm’s dps?

I think this is a little drastic.

For Dungeons/Fractals, my Phantasm build (20/20/0/25/5) had 25 points in for the +15% and used traited focus for reflects. +15% Dom + 15% Inspiration + 5 point illusionist’ celerity was awesome.
Xavi – overall phantasm damage output is higher with 25 points in illusions than it is with 25 points in inspiration now, assuming they die at some point during the fight.

That’s nice but focus reflect was really good and I could change on the fly by changing a few traits around to pick up pistol or scepter. Plus, Illusions healed players.
It isn’t always about the damage, especially in PvE.
for reference here’s my previous build
@fadeaway: the uber buffed halting strike with an aoe push and pull and diversion should replace the lost empowered illusions damage.
