sword off hand isn’t a melee weapon, it can be ranged weapon. There are builds that uses sword off hand in PvE but I guess that’s not what you want. You can check the build Buton(Ross Biddle.2367) is using.
For PvE, I used to use a Sw/Sw & Sw/F Phantasm build, similar to this build (http://metabattle.com/wiki/Build:Mesmer_-_Fractal_Phantasm). I recently dropped the OH Sword because #4 spawns a clone which can overwrite a phantasm.

Ill add that, sword/sword isnt about being a “melee build” but rather a power build as both MH and OH sword work best in a power setup. Personally I like full glass but then I feel comfortable enough in my skill level to make that work. Could you get some toughness in there via knights or maybe cav mixed in? Possibly, but you’ll chip away at and weaken the raw damage output, which may debilitate you from being unable to apply enough pressure. Such is the woes of our class in various matchups.

True, by comparison…
I mean the 4-skill has 900 range, the 5-skill has 1200. It’s shorter than Staff or GS, but on par with untraited pistol. Or torch, if memory serves.
s/s hits really really hard. It’s very very good vs warriors and guardians but not so great vs engis and necros .
While i currently run sw/f, I absolutely love sw/sw. I use sword/sword whenever I run CS (Confounding Suggestions)
My favorite sw/sw build is 6/4/4/0/0 (II, VII, / VI, X/ V, VIII) with Mesmer runes and blink, decoy(or portal or signet of Dom) and a staff or Gs. I’ll usually take sigils of paralyze and fire on swords, hydro/energy on staff, occasionally I’ll shift the energy sigil over the fire and go hydro/doom.
6/2/0/0/6 is also really fun but hella difficult.
Sword offhand is actually kind of poor in close range. The counter is better at mid range since it can leave you open to attack and the iswordsman works at 1200r. Going sw/sw-Gs gives you a nice high damage mix of ranges.

S/S IS the coolest looking thing in game imo >=D
As standard 4/4/0/0/6 shatter, I used to solo queue and I found it to be super handy against thieves. and throwing a interupt bolt with halting strike is nice (although a tad unreliable until you practice it A LOT)
But the meta demands I use staff sighhh

Counter Blade is pretty amazing when combined with Diversion to rack up a full 25 vulnerability with Dazzling pre-mind wrack. It’s also very good for interrupting stomps, ressing etc because of the pierce.
The Counter attack itself is seldom useful unless you’re moving out of melee range after you block.
The only thing you have to concern yourself over with iSwordsman is aegis for obvious reasons. GS is pretty good for quickly and easily removing that in advance.

Off hand sword has shorter cooldowns than pistol or torch. Is that better by default?
How about sword/focus with rotation s3 s3 f5 s2 F1.
Sword/torch with t4 s3 s3 t5 s2 F1. Retaliation.
Both looks better than sword/sword and are melee only due the rotation order. Torch 4 helps to get close enough. Even guardians can be melted with retaliation.
Without focus, I tried speed boosters – 1 hour +15% speed. It is better than nothing with s/s or s/t or s/p. Traveler runes are +25% but I prefer mesmer runes – in believe that they help. Focus 4 gives +33% – add that to the front of the rotation when s/f.
Playing s/s-staff with CI lockdown build for 4-5 months,and while it was hard at start,I can now take even 1v2’s ( very depended on the other ppl class tho).I find it hard against other mesmers tho,typically shatter and condi ones.
