Taunt + PU?
I think it’s safe to assume that taunt will not be something Mesmers get it doesn’t really sound Mesmer ish..
Also we don’t have natural access to fear as mesmers

what do you mean it doesn’t sound Mesmerish? it sounds totally Mesmer.

Taunt is a classic mechanic from all the way back in D&D
Mostly relegated and used by the Tanks or Brawling classes and players that needed/wanted to keep an opponent nearby and from attacking and charging at squishier allies.
As a squish-ish mesmer that has to use a lot of active defense idk if i’d want the enemy thief running at me even if it were taunted.. auto attacks still hurt from a lot of the classes i meet in PvP

I’m hoping mesmers get slow. That would be an amazing throwback to GW1 mesmer.

I think it’s pretty safe to say we do. And if we do, it will be amazing with interrupting specific skills that used to be almost impossible to interrupt based on reaction speed.
Maybe they finally separating game modes. Taunt sounds prurely pve. The taunt causes creature to target the taunter.

No it doesn’t.
‘’For example, when used on players, it will force the taunted player to run at their target with their skill bar locked—minus stun breakers—and only use their autoattack skill to attack.’’
All I can think off is condi necro cast this instead of fear on me. I’m scared just thinking about it.

Well GW2 is a little more innovative when it comes to things.
Put confusion -> taunt -> blurred frenzy = profit.
Maybe stuff based on signet like Blurred Inscription or Masterful Reflection on an taunted bow ranger ? It works even better since we can do Blinding Befuddlement. Signet of Midnight -> Confusion -> Blind + Invul. I’m of course theorycrafting here, don’t know how it’s going to be when it’s live, but we have tools we can use with taunt.
Just gotta be creative for a short taunt.
Also, we have block on scepter and sword, chaos armor, etc.

But according to the info we have so far, that’s exactly not what taunt does. It doesn’t secure aggro or transfer threat, at all.
Let go of your over-done D&D theorum, for the good of us all.
I’m sure I speak for more than just me here that I can envision spells from Guild Wars 1 like say, ‘Tease’ to apply a Taunt effect.
Taunt fits the Mesmer more thematically than any other class, since A-net has essentially pegged Mesmer as -the- dueling class (whether that’s true or not is a different story entirely but it’s what the class was intended to be).
A-net are really fantastic at sticking to their themes and the core concepts of professions.
I guarantee you Mesmer will get Taunt. There is too much synergy with it and the rest of the Mesmer’s proficiency for it not to happen.
I wouldn’t complain if Mesmer did get Taunt. Although, I’m definitely more waiting for Slow. I can smell the Slow/CI fun already.

The reason I stated pve is because is such a feat possible with players. I understand fear since it randomly controls your character for x seconds. But making a player move seems like hijacking the toon. If written can hack and allow others to use? In over mobs are just ai.

The devs literally stated exactly what taunt does if applied to players. I’m not sure why you’re failing to recognize that.
I still maintain that Fear and Taunt are psychological conditions, and thus thematically the Mesmer should have access to them.
But I’ll just shut up and be happy with my Slow.

To me taunt will be one condition that condition mesmer is missing these whole time (second to slow though hehe). Unlike condition builds from other classes, our “unique” conditions torment and confusion are all about punishing bad play from opponent players. Meaning a huge part of our condition damage comes from opponents’ skill as well. Over time they get phased out as player base learn and adapt. But taunt can address this issue by making torment and confusion a lot more aggressive than before.

Too bad other classes can put our trademark condition more reliable than us.
Pretty much with perplexity around lol. I still think distracting strikes trait is a huge waste of potential for both mesmer and warrior since warrior interrupting weapons don’t have much other conditions.
