Test Your Mettle, another slap in the face?
My heart aches whenever I think about Disruptors Sustainment.. Why couldn’t it have been a 1.5k heal per interrupt (1s ICD) instead?
Otherwise, nah. They have to keep working on the ladder in time for HoT. I don’t expect any real balance changes till then.

Still a worthy thing to draw attention to, introducing a new season with no balance patch with it is a bit disappointing.
2 things.
1. Mesmers can absolutely get into the top 25 players of a region if you play well enough. Top 10 is possible two, though would require exceptional play. Considering that top 10 players of a region necessarily means that you’re exceptional at playing…this is reasonable.
2. The fact that balance isn’t perfect right now is not a valid reason for them to not attempt to improve their matchmaking/rating algorithms through largescale tests such as this.
Building on what Fay said, this could also bring more attention to the current state of affairs as far as class balance in PvP.
For example: if the top X players in each region are largely those same classes that dominated the tournament scene, there’s another sign and hopefully ArenaNet will pay attention to it.
Now, if the top X players winds up being fairly spread out amongst the different classes, then that would be a sign for the playerbase to stop focusing so much on what the “pro” players are doing and more on “why” … though I always advocate making sure you understand the “why”.

top rank is still tied to number of games played not really indication of super skill. I am not even saying this because I’m bitter because I was ranked in the 60th range before reset. Since I play a lot so most likely I will end up somewhere there in the new system due to purely number of game played and rocking a solid 50% win rate …
I probably could do it, but the rewards are worthless to me so I don’t feel I need to grind my soul to be that high on the lb lol.

The pvp ladder developer team is probably different from the balance team.
You can’t expect a “perfect meta”, and expecting one before they do test ladders – reward or no – is a bit too hopeful. There will always be a weakest class; that’s just how competitive metagames work.
Of course mesmer can get to top spots on LB. Just play alot. But i agree balance > leaderboard.
^ Usually only characer that i play on
While you’re waiting for a “perfect meta…”
And then for players to get used to the new changes so they can actually execute well…
You might as well have a tournament in the meantime, you know? >.>
Would it have been better if they called it ‘Test your Might (stacking)’?

That’s the perfect name for this meta lol. 10/10

Apparently this ladder tests is for a new leadership board data collection.

Quite possibly has no implication on discovering mesmer problems or trying to improve mesmer in the future. Heck, I’m not even sure if the balance team will be involved if this is just for leadership board algorithm.
For those who are interested, LB in the past values amount of matches played rather than players’ skills in those matches. I think they’re priority now is to address that rather than professional balance.
If only our bloody Staff attacked every 0.75 like the tooltip says (instead of every 1.32) … we could Might and Fury stack :-( Synergize with our other methods of gaining might as well.
Oh well, we’re not allowed to have near constant up-time on most boons … see ICDs on Critical Infusion and Illusionary Membrane :-( Not to mention nerfs to Chaos Armor.
At least we’re cool and kill people with butterflies … and are the best at confusing new players ;-)

I may be mistaken but these seasons are still mostly just tests right? (I given up caring about LB and ladders at this point so I’ve not been informed for a while) Even if not regardless I don’t see a problem with them trying to fix an already screwy system in attempt to make it function better before a release.
I do have problems with them for what seems like they will intentionally not update balance between now and exp release. Why balance around even more factors when they can balance it around less now? Unless the exp is really really good balance wise which I really find unlikely. But hey our current builds might be decent in a perticular role in stronghold. (To specifiy in a way that isn’t super lack luster)
