I haven’t seen the vid yet, but let me just say I’m elated one of “the originals” is back!
Definitely one I learned a lot from in my early days as a mesmer. Welcome!!!

Nice vid man, enjoyed it a lot. The music was really catchy haha, and I liked how the ele’s churning earth fell on the gun-shot in the song (whether that was intentional or not xD)

I think the difficulty with PvP videos is that they’re really difficult to make interesting at all. A PvP video gets sorta meaningless as a montage, since the very point of PvP is playing the game mode and winning, but actually watching a full PvP match is just boring in most cases.

You can certainly go ahead and try, but just be aware that there’s significant inherent difficulty in making a watchable ranked PvP video.

I agree 100%! A PvP montage would showcase the combat aspect where as showing a full match would showcase the map awareness/rotation aspect. It’s gonna be a tricky one… unless I add in commentary but it would have to be a VERY interesting game for it to be worth watching.

If you want some good PvP montage ideas, check out countless and supcutie. They both do a very good job of creating something interesting from their matches/encounters. I look forward to seeing what you come up with.

There’s some good tricks to make full match vids watchable. Just dont let the footage idle on anything other than action, for one.

I also like making vignettes as opposed to montages. Smaller bite sized clips that’re fun watches, and I especially like spicing them up with fun music etc

And that is absolutely why WvW is fun and you can get some “good” footage! Any one who plays the game enough knows it’s not possible to 1 v X against good players unless they’re running zerg/bad builds.

I do have a few 1v1’s with some decent players but I think they’re boring to watch unless people want to learn?

Fun = 1 v X
Tutorial = 1 v 1?

Yeah I think it’s good to showcase one or two good 1v1’s, my opinion anyway. Decent players can tell when the competition is noob and thus 1vX is much easier xD.

Not to diminish what you did there, any 1vX (even vs noob) can be hectic.

aren’t you sacrificing a lot of survivability by not taking Chaos?

Hey

Not really… PU is great if you use a lot of stealth but I’ve dropped torch/veil and picked up shield and signet of illusion instead.

Shield IMO gives you more survivability and utility.

Echo of Memory/Deja Vu:
- gives you 2 blocks
- gives 2 phantasms
- an additional phantasm from mental defense
- using the chronophantasms trait, that’s 3 more phantasms (total of 6)
- combined with persisting memory that’s s 12s CD reduction on the block
- combined with the alacrity from chrono traitline, it’s pretty much on cool down again for you to do another double block.
- then you get the condi clears and heals from the 6 shatters, not to mention the additional random clones you get from illusionary reversion if you dont have 3 phantasms up.

Obviously this is the ideal setup and it’s not going to always happen but that’s the theory behind it.

Then you got Tides of Time:
- on demand aoe stun
- high chance of interrupt (2x stun) proccing perplexity runes
- on demand quickness for important skills (heal/moa/mass invis)
- blocks projectiles

So weighing it up, I don’t think I’m really sacrificing much. I think I come out on top ;p

I’m willing to learn though and I know I’ll get there someday!
