Ranger Pet DPS getting a nerf
Im not really concerned anymore. Was just just watching a tpvp stream and Jon said that every trait line is getting at least one change, some as much as five. Im sure other stuff will be changed to compensate since they are trying to increase build diversity.

Well… What optimism I have is always tempered by the memory of the infamous Aquaman patch lol
And their track record of build diversity is generally nerfing the kitten out of whatever works currently while giving miniscule buffs to unused specs :/ Here’s to hoping I’m totally wrong.
Ill believe it when i saw it. Their track record with buffs is small boosts but their nerfs arent so overall ranger will be weaker affer the patch.

Anet, since release, has always and will continue to nerf burst in various forms, never bunker, never ever bunker. I am not concerned, and I think with the recent announcement of the trait lines for each class being reworked I’m hopeful that if we DO take a pet nerf, we will have more synergistic traits, possibly better AI to compensate.

You know.. it’s pretty frustrating that our cries for help go largely ignored, but if someone that plays a Warrior (aka Arena Nets Golden Child) complains about anything Ranger related, nerfs come like lightning. That video is a good example, someone says BM Ranger is ‘OP,’.. Boom.. Nerf Granted!
Rangers ask for months for someone to fix the #1 skill on our Long Bow.. completely ignored.
I’m a pretty patient guy, I try to stay out of all the crying and complaining, but if this nerf affects PVE as well, that just might be it for me. I’m so sick of being afraid of every single patch, the constant nerfs have to STOP.
yet another reason to quit the Ranger class once and for all or the game. Even tho our damage is garbage now we are going to get pet dmg nerf lol and like always we wont get anything in return. Seriously i think this is the only game that go backwards, it get worse with every patch, they should roll back the patches to the beta build, things were probably better at that time.
Love my BM Ranger, any changes will probably drive me back to my thief and youll just have one more annoying person spamming HS lol

As far as I can tell going the BM route means you are giving your pet a lot of your damage, so that you can survive longer. How is taking away their damage going to help us rangers at all? There is already a lot of hard work put into surviving as a BM ranger. Timing your dodges, using AoE fields, tricking the player into thinking we are the real menace while our pet does the dirty work. Did I mention the gear and weapons and the time and gold spent in getting geared up for it? If this nerf has to happen then I’d like to know what it is that they want the ranger to do, if they tell us exactly what that is then maybe we can stop breaking our heads over what build to come up with next that won’t get eaten alive everywhere we go.

The sad thing is, that the majority of LB & bear using backpaddlers won´t notice this at all. BM rangers are under-represented anyway. At least in WvW. Since I stopped playing sPvP a while ago, I can´t tell how the situation is there right now.

They are going to nerf pet’s damage mostly because BM bunker dealing too much damage, so they are going to adjust around BM and try to not hurt everything else. and most likely gonna be a PVP only change.
Also they said they are going to nerf pets damage, it doesn’t mean they are going to nerf the less hard hitting ones, a few adjustment can bring them up to bar pretty fast.

Yes, of course it’s going to be PvP only! Just like the shortbow animation “fix” and rest of the smart adjustments they have done so far that didn’t hurt any other builds at all. You have returned my faith on Jon Sharp and co!

regarding PvP, ANet should be weighing tournament results in higher regard than forum postings.
only 1 out of the last 3 tourney winners ran a ranger & we saw BM rangers 1v1’d on multiple occasions during this most recent tourney.
complainants are not weighing the liabilities of reliance on AI pathing for damage with the benefits of damage from an additional source.

If you are referring to dungeons I personally found that the buff to pet survivability as well as the change to their pathing has been amazing. With 0-5 pts in bm as well as solid microing of your pet you can keep even cats alive through encounters like lupics or the fire shaman in the grawl fractal.
I have 2 builds for my ranger and one is full bunker healing build. WIth that build my pet does too much damage for what setup I run. It allows my pet to kill people without me doing anything other than run around staying alive. Bunker builds like that should not have pets that still hit hard. Having said that, Anet will likely choose worst course of action in correcting that and break things horribly.

If you think them nerfing pet damage means they will be buffing the Ranger damage you are sorely mistaken. What will happen is they will nerf the pet so far into the ground that not even a boar can “forage” it’s way out. Then they will turn around and make a few tooltip corrections for our traits and call them buffs to the Ranger. In turn they will kill the Ranger in all forms and it will be the least represented profession in ALL areas not just Dungeons.

Ah. I don’t PVP. I also don’t really do fractals either, and when I do it is with my warrior. I sometimes run 5pts in BM, but I really don’t see a difference between putting it there or in WS. Although I generally like it in WS. I mostly just run PVE and dungeons. And since I got my war to 80 and geared up, I stopped running dungeons with my Ranger. It is nice having my DPS completely under my control and not relying on crappy AI. And no, that recent buff didn’t make a lick of difference verse AOE no matter what pet you’re running. Pathing also barely improved. When you say something about the pets is “amazing” I really can’t take you seriously. Before the S&R nerf, my friends liked having my ranger in the group… but that really was the straw that broke the camel’s back and forced me to roll another toon to run dungeons with. After that S&R nerf I asked my friends to tell me honestly why they would want my ranger along and I got nothing in reponse. Whats funny is you say “micro managing” pets but Jon Sharp has said in a SotG interview we shouldn’t have too much control because it’ll scare off new players to the Ranger class. That’s why I had to make a “dodge” macro. Because Anet devs think I don’t need one. Unfortunately, I have to stay ranged for this dodge macro to work (F3-wait 3 secs-F1) and not in red circles myself for this to be effective. So overall while I keep my pet alive my overall DPS is severly hampered and continues to suffer at the expense of keeping my pet alive. Only ones that hit hard are the cats and the drakes, both melee, so they die quick (like to the Fire Shaman in Fire Heart Rise or Slave Driver in COF P1). Spiders and devours do craptastic damage so I don’t want to use them and sometimes they like to facetank anyway. Until they make pets immune to or close to immune to AOE damage, there’s no way I’m taking my Ranger back into a dungeon… unless I’m in a group that doesn’t know any better or really really doesn’t care about how much DPS I am doing at any given time.

I tend to run a 30,30,5,0,5 in dungeons. The dungeon I run the MOST is cof p1. I did a number of p1 runs yesterday, as well as a p2 and p3 run. The only section of p1 where my pet is guaranteed to die is the flame acolyte portion. To be fair though that section gives a lot of players trouble as well due to the fact that the trash hits harder and more frequently than some bosses in the game. Neither the slave driver or the effigy kill my cats often. Maybe 1 of them will kill 1 of my pets once. Every couple of runs.
P2 my cats don’t die.
P3 was fine as well for my cats/drakes. There are some fights where the aoe of drakes is superior to the single target of cats. Final boss gave me no trouble keeping the cats alive.
When I talk about micro I only go as far as a well timed pet swap.

We must be playing two different games because I run the same trait points sometimes, but I run no traits that benefit the pet. I prefer 30/30/10/0/0. I run steady focus, eagle eye, etc. I want to play a Ranger, not a Beast Master. So, I get as close as I can and make do with a kittened pet. So sad. I really like the ranger style and weapons ( despite the lack of DPS from ranger weapons ). I am tired of the mental disability the pet has. I’m to the point I run it on guard 98% of the time now-a-days (PVE and dungeons) and use F2 then recall them when they go to attack. Dungeons? 100% of the time. Pretty much the only time I run on attack is when I’m farming.

It’s because pets do so much damage insane damage even to balance this we made all of their attacks do an 8 second animation so they couldn’t hit anything with or even without a brain but it has now come to our knowledge that some players might be assraped by pets because they like to stand still and don’t wear armor so we need to balance this some more by removing the damage from the pets, we’ll take it slow and monitor the progress carefully though otherwise pets might still be OP if their owners adapt again.
Fix the Obstructed crap and i’ll gladly accept a nerf to my pet damage.
Else, leave it as it is.
or make the pet hit 100% unless you slow it, cripple it, stun it or dodge it. Then nerf damage. Otherwise the pet damage goes from epic , vs noobs, to nonexistant , vs normal people
well this nerf will destroy ranger specially at tpvp again.
atm, without this nerf, the bomb engin can troll a bm ranger so hard when he is goint for the enemy homepoint and bm ranger try to defend it.
also engi can defend his homepoint rly good vs the beastmaster when
the bm whant to aussault enemy homepoint.
it happend rly often last time when i was going for farpoint,
i crossed with bomb engi and then i have to decide between running back to my homepoint and try to hold him (he will decap rly fast) or attack the farpoint
saying bm is a bit to strong atm also means engi is to strong then… because engi is stronger then ranger.
also it shows me this nerf is coming to fast, beause players found a counter allrdy
and this counter make much teams better use engi then ranger.
a bomb engi build can teamfight well with huge aoe dmg and have also combofield water heal, he can use this combofield 3 times easy by himself for teamheal and selfheal.
bm ranger can not teamfight rly well with his low dmg and single target pet.
only nice teamfight stuff at bm ranger is the healingspring, river drake combo and its not always so easy to get river drake use his combofinisher in the healingspring…
at least that means, when you use the bm for defending homepoint and dont whant be totaly useless there. the ranger have to go also mid and help at teamfights and when someone attack homepoint, he can use the mesmer portal.
whats bad at this strategy, the ranger is not good at teamfight and when a bomb engi is attacking homepoint the ranger also cant hold it… yes mucht bomb engins playing atm and they do better job then bm ranger at midfight and defending home…
the only nice tactic for beastmaster is in my mind, let him cap home at start and mesmer leave a portal. after the cap ranger can play betweend homepoint and farpoint… looking for 1vs1 situation but not with engi or other rangers, not so easy…
enough qq on forum have make anet trust them and nerf the dmg now…
also i think they have not much brains at there testing servers.
when i figh a ranger, i know i have to keep an eye on the pet and start to kite and dodge his attacks, also start to slow it
i have do much beasmtaster vs beastmaster fights when one of them was attack my homepoint before the last patch, kanscout is one of them and he is rly good.
at bm vs bm fight, its also more hard for the bm who whant to hold the point
because the other one can move more.
but cripple, slow the pet and keep an eye on it make the pet have no more “to huge dmg” because i can spimple play it out. rest important, just dont stay in the bunrning… and dodge some of the other ranger slow attacks.
and also the sotg ppls, especially zoose are bad players in my eyes now
dont know how they can think bm ranger is op, but more i think they are just to stupid to handle it, maybe they are also stupid enough to 1vs1 the bm ranger as ele on his point and wonder why a bunker dont die vs them…

lets waste one player slot for bm rangers after patch or waste it for a 2. guardian..

yes its easy to play a bm ranger class at low ranked no brain soloq matches, but when u play vs good players you have to do also a good job as bm ranger to be usefull in the team!

I could fraps a video where I tested with an engineer friend in our custom arena pet hit rates.
I had pet 30% speed trait. The pet could hit him if he stood still or stopped moving.
If he moved without swiftness, the pet would hit him every so often, but way less.
If he moved with swiftness, the pet would not touch him, period.
We also tested autoattacks with shaman and cleric amulets.
Greatsword damage with shaman amulet hit for about 170 damage per attack. With cleric it went up to 300-occassionally 400 damage per attack.
Our damage IS the pet. Unless you’re geared berserker you will not be competing with the damage your pet is doing, and even with knight gear the damage is pretty close, and the pet’s damage is still spikier.

As an engineer I don’t play much of any other class but I don’t see this as an op build or anything. I can kill it sometimes and it gets me. This is you guys only really strong build and anet will most likely nerf it so it’s not really usable anymore.
Don’t worry though. I’m pretty sure us engineers are getting nerfed too. Let’s just hold each other hands.

Glass anything is about the easiest thing to beat with a power ranger. And as for warriors, kite the kitten out of them. People don’t utilize the weapons they are given. Instead of going for super fast burst damage, equip a sword or dagger for the evasions. It works for me so much. I’m not anywheres near glass cannon. I have 1600 toughness and more often than not I can pull off a 5k-7k rapid fire.

Really? All the hours I’ve played ranger? That channel, plus your pet, plus the super low cool downs on sword, dagger, GS. Come on dude. Anet themselves said rangers are about sustained dps. Lolhundredblades let’s keep comparing to other professions that are about bursting. Rapid fire isn’t just about the damage. It’s a channel that can still hit people in stealth, procs sigils and traits often, and you can use quickness to make it a really good, quick burst. I think some of you people complain on the forums more than you actually play the game -_-
wow @melpomene, just stop talking when you are know nothing…
but its big problem generaly, forums are full with ppls like you,
spending more time into forums instead of playing the game.
for me it sounds like 2 hours ranger playtime and some hate against beastmaster builds

While I agree Rangers have major issues and for the most part go mostly ignored, I don’t understand where you get this idea that Warriors are Anet’s “golden child”. lol Warrior has been one of the worst classes in the game since release, and has only recently got buffs that really did nothing for the class. What buffs did they get? Signet buffs? Yuck. Condition reduction trait? About the only half decent thing they got, and really it’s not that great unless stacked with food and runes for condition reduction. A 30 point discipline trait for 3% more damage per boon or whatever? Except, nobody specs to 30 Discipline and by specializing that high in Discipline you lose massive amounts of DPS from other lines therefore invalidating any reason to ever spec for the “boon counter” trait. but its big problem generaly, forums are full with ppls like you,
spending more time into forums instead of playing the game.for me it sounds like 2 hours ranger playtime and some hate against beastmaster builds
Lol yes, my 42? Post count. I love reading the “ranger sucks threads”. It’s really heartwarming that you guys feel that way. Because I love when a thief or warrior runs up to me thinking I’m a “sucky ranger” and I pwn them.
You are using LB and talking about sustained damage…. not sure if serious. I dont know what you think but i have NP killing 90% of the people i run into in WvW. We are discussing pet damage being nerfed which in fact will hurt sustained and burst for Rangers.
Playing a game for a long time doesnt make you good at the game so dont bring in your hours of playing a ranger as a statement of your knowledge.
Rapid fire is crap, worse than auto attack at max range and LB Auto attack at max range is worse than SB auto attack before the bleeding is taking into account.
If you havent figured it out by now ill let you in on it, LB sucks.

You know.. it’s pretty frustrating that our cries for help go largely ignored, but if someone that plays a Warrior (aka Arena Nets Golden Child) complains about anything Ranger related, nerfs come like lightning. That video is a good example, someone says BM Ranger is ‘OP,’.. Boom.. Nerf Granted!
While I agree Rangers have major issues and for the most part go mostly ignored, I don’t understand where you get this idea that Warriors are Anet’s “golden child”. lol Warrior has been one of the worst classes in the game since release, and has only recently got buffs that really did nothing for the class. What buffs did they get? Signet buffs? Yuck. Condition reduction trait? About the only half decent thing they got, and really it’s not that great unless stacked with food and runes for condition reduction. A 30 point discipline trait for 3% more damage per boon or whatever? Except, nobody specs to 30 Discipline and by specializing that high in Discipline you lose massive amounts of DPS from other lines therefore invalidating any reason to ever spec for the “boon counter” trait. Hammer warriors are great in WvW. Warriors are the king of PvE.
The only place where warriors are not top tier classes is in spvp, and the population of the game that plays spvp is minuscule relative to that one which plays PvE/WvW.
In fact, for most warriors, they’re playing the class that’s on top of the ladder.
