Why Do People Dislike Their Rangers?
Funny thing though, Warriors and Guardians have things they’re BEST at, things that DEFINE the USEFULNESS of their class.
That’s the thing, i don’t think Anet even knows what they want about the classes. In sPvP yes, rangers are below other classes because there is not much of a reason to use a ranger for the most part in paid tournaments but most of the classes are stuck with pretty much a single role/build, i think it’s more a general problem and not just ranger itself (Sure ranger needs A LOT of rework on traits, signets and spirits, but still).
Either way, not every class has to be the best at doing something to be good.
Don’t forget there is a lot of stuff bugged/to be nerfed which might put the ranger on its place without the need of revamping the class completely.

I wasn’t exactly talking about ranger bugs but other classes bugs which makes them stronger.
PvP in general is still “half made”, too many bugs/bad features and balance issues to care too much about it right now.
It’s funny. You can go into pretty much every class forums and find the “my class sucks!” theme.
I mean look at Necromancers, their life drain heals their targets, their pets are even worse then Rangers and they are pigeon holed into a single build far more brutally then Rangers. The Death Shroud is very limited if they go with a Condition build. The most outrageous bug list.
Engineer kits are still as clunky as hell, Grenades still remains the only really useful kit, turrets suck, only real build is grenade plus elixirs.
Elementalists have great AoE but can have diabolical single target, some of the auto attack damage is insane. Like can’t beat the regen of a Skale bad. Attunements are slow unless you put 30 points into Arcane (and then they are just passable) which means any serious Elementalist build only really has 40 trait points to spend. Forced into tank builds because otherwise they die to a stiff breeze.
To Sleepy and the others that persistently call people who believe the ranger is sub-par at pvp and needs to be buffed “just whiners”, or refer us to the other class forums and say how they are also full of the same type of threads of people saying how UP their class is, please read this:

Nearly everyone posts ranger as worst or equal worst for spvp. For people that are serious about pvp, you cannot imagine how pissed off we were when our one competitive weapon got nerfed in a patch that was meant to nerf other classes, grrrr, you guys just don’t get it.
Please try to understand that we love ranger and see the potential there, we can still do good 1vs1 or beat noobs or whatever, but if you spend most of your time in spvp you know that Ranger is clearly UP in spvp, and is often a liability to the team.
Here’s hoping that in the next few hours rangers get a significant buff that gives them some purpose in the spvp and wvw meta.

But just because rangers are “in a bad state” for paid tournaments doesn’t mean they are the worst at everything and unplayable, that’s a tiny part of the game that certainly only a minority plays.
And it’s mainly because there are too strong builds/team compositions where if you want to beat them you need very specific builds.
I understand that some people only plays sPvP and it may be frustrating to play ranger there (outside paid tournaments ranger still has a place…not everyone runs the same team compositions), but there is a lot of mindless whines, like saying pets can’t hit moving targets…it does if you trait the 30% speed (it should be +30% by default without trait, or maybe a 20-25% from signet to balance it more but still).
I’m hoping a buff on spirits and pets to be honest, i can’t just think on anything better than that. There are balance issues everywhere, as i said plenty of times not all buffs come in the shape of buffing our damage but instead nerfing other classes. Therefor even if they buff us by 10% and nerf someone else by 10% that’s already a big improvement.
By looking at all the class forums, we could expect plenty of nerfs…will this patch balance it or break it even more? Hard to tell…

So many ranger pvp’ers are god-awful though, I burst them down to half hp, root them, bonfire them, meanwhile, they are just standing still thinking that SB AA will bring me down not even knowing it’s one of my bears soaking up all the damage..

Please the belittling is hardly limited to our our side of the argument. You don’t have a monopoly on wanting whats best for the Ranger class.
I think my main issue (and probably Sleepy’s as well) is this weakness in sPvP seems to be a translated into a general weakness at everything. This is just not true. You can see how hyperbolic some of these arguments of gotten. Furthermore anyone who questions this either:
a) Hates Rangers or,
b) Is some secret sleeper agent who plays another class who is trying to keep Rangers “bad” or,
c) Is some PvE baddie who should be belittled at every opportunity.
Claiming that Rangers need improvements in PvP – reasonable, screaming “OMG RANGERS ARE THE WORST CLASS IN THE GAME ARENA NET HATES US!!!” is not. We both well know that some posters in this forum HAVE fallen to that level.

Yes, pretty much that, this got to a ridiculous level where you see these kind of posts even on threads from new players asking for leveling advice.

Yeah, it has got worse in the short time I have been reading here. So many posts seem to have no concept of the rangers skills or even the most very basic concepts of PvP.
Add to that people saying the update will be minor bugfixes when the official post clearly says weapons, spirits and careers will be fixed, just smells of hysterical basement dwellers foaming at the mouth as their mom brings them another tray of big macs.
Not polite, but honest.
