Day 1 Revenant: Level 1 or Level 80?

Plus doing it that way builds core mastery XP and I want autoloot more than I want any of the meguma mastery tracks.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

Tomes all the way. I have 10 characters at level 80 already, so I know my stuff when it comes to leveling. Plus NPE sucks, so no way am I putting myself through that. As fur learning the class, what do you think I did in betas?
Toming straight to 80 doesn’t remove anything IMO, it just saves me a bell of a lot of time. Yes, comparing my Revenant at 80 vs your Revenant at 80, you would know the class better, as I’ll be 80 about 5 mins after completing the opening story, but say it takes a week for you to get to 80, then I would know more about how Revenant plays in the true zones (level 80 ones)
Insta lvl 80, will need to do map anyways so I’ll learn it while speedrunning past the WP’s and HP’s of tyria, but I’ll focus on other classes first. No reason to start with rev for Maguuma Jungle, Might use it in Haloween & Mad king things though….
Oh and NPE is gone..we are already past it
Been There, Done That & Will do it again…except maybe world completion.

Why not level through scrolls and tomes?
All of the new content is at 80. For the revenant most likely even more so.
I am planning to hold off until Monday as that is when my next scroll drops. I will be having WAY too much fun with Halloween content and (hopefully) elites before then anyway. I do not want to spend that time doing the same old-same old level 80 grind.
Maybe for a later revenant when there is nothing else to do. Not the one I will be rolling the first week though.
Truthfully, I don’t see the need for veterans to start at level one. There’s not much you can learn from autoattacking and you’re not going to learn how to use your utility skills and traits if you don’t have utility skills and traits. Spending weeks getting to 80 so that you will finally have everything you need to know how to play the char feels like a waste of time to me.
ANet may give it to you.
I’ll take my time with Revenant, although with several 80s under my belt at this point there will undoubtedly be some moderate use of XP boosters or Tomes. I still like to do some of the story, get map coverage, gather materials and gear, and settle into the class. I didn’t really get confident with Rev during the beta, so having an instant 80 with 0% map coverage and no practice time just isn’t going to do anything for me.
Gonna use a level 30 scroll, then level up in the halloween zones. After that, I might use crafting and my tomes.
Start two Revenants! Jump one up, then think about leveling the other one. But I suspect leveling one normally will be painful..imagine having only one legend, or none.
For those who have the scrolls and tomes, you could make a level 1 and, after the tutorial, level a character to level 80 in a matter of a minute or so of clicking.
So, for those of you who plan on playing revenant on day 1, and have the resources, will you stick to level 1 and do the patient leveling up, or will you go straight to level 80?
I’m going to hit 80 right off the back, and I do plan on getting world completion afterwords. The Revenant relies a bit to much on his Legends being fully available for me to feel comfortable going though the NPE stuff. I rather just hit 80 and god-mode my way though World Completion.
That and Halloween stuff I need to farm for apparently. XD

I’ll level from 1 to 15 and then instant 80, will give me a chance to get some hero points and waypoints etc. but I’d rather not go through the boring and tedious process of leveling from 1-80, I’ve done that enough thanks
You guys are going to actually complete the opening story before leveling?
Create Character → open bank remotely → insta 80, insta acended, set my armor colors up (already transmuted them) Walk over those kittening centaurs and get the kitten out.
Although, I also considered trying to run a lv 1 rev to HoT Jungle land and see if i can bug 80 levels of exp into maguma tracks (something tells me it wont work but im debating it)

You’ll just get killed. You have to run your level 2 char through level 80 mobs then a level 80 Living Story instance. From my own experience if there is more than about 15 levels difference the mobs hate you. Not only will they chase you down but the aggro range is much bigger. My Charr warrior was about 15 levels under in Frostgorge. Staying on the path past the Jormag site, I drew aggro (and boulders) from the Wurms that normally ignore level 80s when they go by and was chased down and one shot by Earth elementals in another map.

Not likely to hop on to Revenant any time soon. I will level it to Lv.80, but there’s so many other things I wish to dabble with first, on my main, soon to be Chronomancer. When I do get around to leveling up the Revenant, I will take him/her through the Core content though, leveling him/her the good old fashioned way. I always found it better to learn how to play my characters, through leveling them in a regular fashion instead of through shortcuts.

I’ll laugh if they make tomes un-usable when HoT launches….
I’ll laugh even more if Elite Specs require more than 150 Hero Points
I am going to level 1-80 until I realize how boring the level process is and then power level my characters.

Roy already confirmed that tomes are usable. He even commented that he had a stash of tomes ready to go for his own revenant. So I’m afraid you won’t have anything to laugh at there.

I’m beginning to suspect they won’t require any Hero Points.
1) they said that excess hero points would be a currency and they would tell us more later. Hard to have a currency when no one has any to buy things with
2) they said the Elite Speciaizations would be unlocked by doing content in the new maps. If it requires Hero points, it can be unlocked anywhere, which makes me suspect they’ll have some sort of reward track like a PvP reward track that is exp based to progress or maybe a meta reward system. Do X number of events and unlock Y.

Leveling makes no sense at all to me – why would anyone want to do it if they have tomes and scrolls to insta 80?
For anyone who intends to level through XP, why not insta 80 – play exactly as you had planned, do the personal stories etc and instead of ‘leveling’ ALL the XP you are gaining is going towards increasing your ACCOUNTS Tyria mastery tracks instead?

Indeed.
You don’t even have to buy any utility skills or traits. You can play without them until you know your weapon skills by heart then every couple of playing hours you can buy one utility skill. Once you have all of those unlocked you can buy traits, one every play hour or so. You’ll still learn in much the same way as a regular leveling and all that exp you are earning will go towards your mastery line. Otherwise it’s almost 5 million exp that won’t be going there.
ANet may give it to you.
Leveling him the normal way, not that I have a different choice, but leveling a char and learning their skills&straits is fun for me.
Insta level 80 would be to much information, and to many things to play/adapt to.
I’m new so i’ll be leveling him the normal way.
I’ll probably jump to 80 more or less instantly. I’ve got 9 level 80s already, so these days I tend to notice the time between new features quite keenly, and it just feels grindy to me.
(not that the levelling experience is grindy, but most of the fun’s been had by your tenth character)

They won’t be, they have already said that it will be possible to level up using the scrolls and tomes after hot comes out. As a matter of fact one of the developers said he plans on doing it himself.
Straight to 80 and then L2P
Scroll/tome/craft to lvl 80. After that, not sure yet. I might explore few zones in Tyria before heading to the new zones, depends how you unlock elite specs.
It was a fun class to test, just won’t need it on day 1. I got a couple scrolls to get to lvl30 and 130 tombs to use. race will be between human, asura and charr.(don’t like sylvari in heavy armor) I’ll wait till Halloween to final the Rev. I would rather see what it takes to make a reaper day 1 then jump into the Halloween stuff for the next 2 weeks.
There’s not much I can learn killing couple mobs what I wouldn’t know already from 120+ hours spent with Revenant in PvP. Plus I have to start using my tomes, as my third stack is going up in numbers already.
So yeah, I will do Charr Personal Story as I always enjoy this part and skip other boring kitten, boosting Rev to 80.

Anyone here watched Wooden Potatoes’ video on how to play the new class when it comes out? If so, that’s how I am gonna play the new class as well, the ‘hard’ way. It just adds more fun, plus by the time you reach level 80 and will most likely re-enter the heart of thorns’ zones, you will have forgotten most of the area and its events from when you last played it wi your main a quarter of a year ago…

80. Anyone doing it any other way is fooling themselves, unless this is still new to them.
By now we should have all leveled at least three to 80, and if you have 8, then what are you doing?
They added nothing new to the leveling system so tomes for the win.
Crystal Desert
Seeing as most of the “class mechanics” for every class is predominantly based on their traits, i dont really see how playing from level 1-20 helps you learn the class better. I will be using tomes to level 46 (wont let me type forty five…weird) so that i can unlock 2 trait lines. Then i will play the rest of way normally. I’m highly confident i will know the class just as well going from 45-80 normally as if i leveled from 1-80 normally but it will save me the boring killing bunny rabbits with no traits stuff.

One sweet level at a time. I’ll continue saving all those scrolls and tomes for other stuff.
Level 30 Scroll and 50 Tomes of Knowledge and then go to WvW to learn the class to play .
First i wanted to play a scrapper but they made him very bad, so rev will come.
[Skol]
For me the decision was easy because I plan to run Herald. That’s literally half the spec (truthfully more, since I plan to spend most of my time there) I plan to use unavailable until then.
I’m going to expiriment with character designs and color schemes before I insta 80 my rev. Don’t want a level 80 “mistake”

Good call, that’s why I fully built my Revenant’s look months ago, and screenshotted the each page with sliders and selections so I can recreate the look as often as I want.

People who speed level aren’t going to have as good a grip on the class, and especially not as good a grip on the more unusual skills.
Uhm. That literally doesn’t make any sense, you know that right?
Why does it matter if you learn the class as you level it up or you learn at after you’ve rushed to 80? Unless I’m missing something and depending on how fast you are at leveling up “the hard way” a person who rushes to 80 will actually be able to learn the class a lot faster.
Not only that, but if you rush to 80 you’ll actually be able to play around with all the trait combos sooner.
Different strokes for different folks. It’s fine if you want to take your time leveling up but it literally doesn’t make any sense to say that you’ll learn the class better by doing so.
80 because I want to start getting XP for Central tyria mastery by doing the world exploration and personal story before heading out to Maguuma. (as well as halloween stuff)
I don’t really see a point in doing 1-80 as a Revenant. Without cooldowns or a real complex rotation, the skill in using one (in PvE) is going to be based on the player’s knowledge of the fights more than the player’s knowledge.
An Insane(ly Intelligent) Genius!
“Did you just tell me the rules? Never tell me the rules!”
Since you have to do the opening of your personal story after character creation you end up being level 2 after you complete it so you only have to go 2-80. See I saved you a level, and you are welcome.

We have a couple of winners here. Anyone who is not insta leveling is just punishing themselves. I understand if you don’t have the scrolls and tomes but wasting xp that could go straight to masteries is just foolish.
I’d insta 80 if i hadn’t taken a 2 year hiatus and thus haven’t collected enough tomes.
Best i can do is level 53.

I can’t tome to lvl 80 either, but I’ve gathered enough mats to craft rest of the levels.
If I could, my fellow Mistwalkers… I’d share the scrolls and tomes I have, becuase I got WAY more then I need.
