What you’ll see fighting enemy thieves is shadow refuge, then the enemy thief dropping a stealth trap while stealthed (the 4 seconds to drop trap will be uninterrupted unless you can fear or knock the thief out, unless getting hit interrupts dropping traps).

Already leveling another class until this gets sorted out.

I really don’t know how to feel about this.

They do have quite a high cost but 30 seconds revealed means the thief is out of commission for that time if they use a stealth build and the only other viable non stealth build out there is that Flanking strike spammer.

Stealth is the thieves strongest and pretty much only defense if they actually want to do damage, sure they can spam dodges but there would be no initiative left to actually attack.

No stealth for a thief is:

No burst for a thief
No defense for a thief
No escape for a thief

No other classes have traps specifically out there to render them useless, even if it is at a high cost.

Yes, but an organized zerg can just send a stealth thief in to disarm it before they send the 100 people in.

It punishes roamers more then anything else, Veilers can pretty much ignore it.

  • PvP Badgets
  • Karma
  • Supply
  • Time waiting for a thief to jump me in the middle of nowhere

I’m not one to complain, every patch that has nerfed thief, I’ve said “screw it i’ll adapt” but wtfanet? I read a lot of people saying “your taking our only defense away” this is true. But what people are forgetting is that for 30 seconds they will also be taking our main burst damage, what are we suppose to do? Spam heartseaker? Spam auto? Of course this only applies to d/d builds. Just bewilders me that anet preaches about dynamic fights, but in this one they’re making the thief almost useless.

My basis is the fact that thieves believe they own copyrights on anything related to stealth. I just throw some cold water in their faces and tell them to wake up.

Remember that this trap requires supply and 4s to be placed. So it’s not something you drop at your feet on a whim just because a thief starts to c&d all over the place.

Trust me, I don’t need traps to deal with thieves.

So to me this change simply serves as a deterrent against the zerg mentality where everyone just blindly rushes into a keep with Mesmer’s slamming down Veil in front.

Welp. For all my previous posts, this is gonna hit thieves hard. Much harder than I thought at first.

I’m sure that it is based more on stopping things like Veil zergs, but this will hit a large percentage of thieves very hard, because of how much thieves are incentivized / forced to build into stealth. So if they hit a stealth trap, any build with stealth as a focal point (including Stealth 1 attacks) is going to be hobbled for 30 seconds.

It’s the 30 seconds that gets me. It just seems way too long to force a build out of a fight. I thought it would be area-based (Revealed while you’re in this 1200 radius area) or a lot shorter.

My condolences go out to others hit by this change, but I figured I should eat crow here.

Edit: I know stealth isn’t exclusive to thieves. I’ve argued that point with others recently, in fact! But I also held that thieves probably had the best access and benefits from using stealth. So it makes sense that a thief forum would be watching this particularly closely, since while they’re not the only ones affected, there’s a larger portion of thieves that will be affected than any other class.

Mixing insults with your post is like pooping in a salad.
It’s pretty obvious, and nobody’s impressed.

Wait a minute, so… By giving a relatively easily accessible item with which anyone can effectively and completely counter one of the most useful aspects of the thief’s class, players will be forced to look for new and less stealth-reliant ways to play their class effectively.

Hmm… Yeah I knew something didn’t sound right there. I will admit, I’m no expert, but if after 8 months the community STILL hasn’t found a way to make the thief useful OTHER than as a stealth assassin… Maybe they should be looking into that too?

What I’m saying is, people need to stop crying about nerfs to their class, but equally, I think it must be taken into consideration WHY people are so defensive. Stealth is a very contentious issue for the thief, and I guess it revolves around this question: Is stealth the only thing that makes a thief worthwhile?

Evidently a lot of the playerbase (and thieves themselves) seem to think so, or would like to think so. The issue here is not one about the “purpose” of these traps, but the consequences it will have, regardless of who it was targeted at. Many seem to feel that the thief is being neutered with all this stealth shenanigans. Not many folks like the prospect of being a eunuch.

Alas… Time vill tell. Time vill tell.

(Also I think a big part of the problem is that people who play MMOs are in many cases autistic kittentards, discuss.)
