So much agree.
I loved this ability during my time playing in the BW; but found the same issue you did. Blocking a ranged attack with the person being out of ranged of the counter pretty much punished me.
I love for the counter attack to be ranged.. but even just animation cancel-able, like you suggested, would be perfect.
Yeah, I like the idea of the counter attack being a leap but players should be able to decide if they’d like to fully commit to it or not, while still using the block as a block.
They could fix it by giving control of the kick to the player similar to revenants Duelists preparation (Sword 4). Basically turn the flip over skill into an active not passive.
ive been mentioned this in a bug report after BWE2. hope they fix this till release.

Yeah it would be awesome if it was a flipover skill!
Agreed. There were several times where I would pop this for some multi hit attacks and I would die from the follow up hits while my thief was trying to do the counter kick.
I’d like it to be a flipover skill. Ranged Shadowstep Knockdown counter would be a big bonus though. =333
