DP thief needs a nerf but..
I remember a d/d thief I dueled once. When I fought him with D/P he just got ran over. Eventually he refused to fight if i was using D/P because it was lame. Now I wasn’t using SA at the time but 2 6 0 0 6 build. He whined a lot. He complained about it.
BTW he was running full SA…..
So? D/D shouldn’t have a chance against D/P, especially if the D/P thief is heartseekering all around the place as D/D needs to land CnD to stealth. SA wasn’t and isn’t op, especially if you can’t stealth because your opponent is in a smoke field or jumping around, or interrupting you, which x66xx D/D thieves couldn’t do.
Just to get that straight – D/P is the direct counter to D/D.
I can still kill some of them because I outplay and outdamage them, but at the moment a lot of wvw is really wonky, so it’s really hard to tell what’s skill and what’s bug.

We need to stop the interclass QQ because its only going to hurt the Thief class as a whole. Remember when S/D was absolutely face roll? I didn’t respect the evade/3 spam ppl who abused the kitten out of it. Nope you know why? Because as a class the thief was on a downward spiral to ineffectiveness. Now as a class we are basically there and the only thing we have going for us is 2nd rate burst on top of 1st class movement.
So all this interclass bickering isn’t helping for kitten. IDC if you run DD, SD, DP, PP, or just SBx2. We as a class are hurting post the last patch. Already the QQ from DD thieves help bring about the nerf to OH Pistol 5. QQ from everyone including other thieves got SD 2 nerfed.
At this point in time EVERY single class has either a hard counter or really good counter to the thief class, and y’all wanna nerf us more…….

I know, I say nothing else. But that doesn’t mean that D/P doesn’t hardcounter D/D -that’s my point right here – and I don’t want anyone to lie about it so their spec has got better chances not to be nerfed – D/P doesn’t need a nerf, D/D (and S/D probably) needs a buff.

Try D/D against D/P, I bet a lot of our thieves would duel you in PvP, if you’re EU I can get my dusty pistol out, if you like.
And btw a Hard counter is rare, that would be D/P to D/D as they remove everything D/D needs to stealth, and D/D against the pre patch mesmers as D/D uses all of their clones to stealth. That are hard counters – a class shutting down the skills of another class.
Edit: Or better: build/weapon set – you know what I mean.

are we done now? I NEVER demanded a nerf of dpdp does need some kind of adjustment imo, i think the blindfield and the fact that you can just heartseaker through it stale, boring and a bit too strong compared to all the other thief weaponsets, not even mentioning the shadowshot and daze

playing without SA doesn’t mean anything, since dp is the counter to dd
all you need to do is blind and you win, it’s too strong compared to the other weaponsets
I don’t play d/p, but it is fine. I think the perception of its strength is only noticed relative to how less versatile the other weapon sets are, and I believe it is in the best interest of all teefs to drive a conversation that raises the other sets up rather than hammering away at the nice, solid, viable weapon set that we have in dp.
Dancing dagger absolutely needs something. Less ini or a stronger effect. I feel it is really almost there, and in service to shoring up DD/s lack of gap closers. Just needs a little love.
yeah I agree on that, D/D needs some kind of improvement, dancing dagger is a great skill, but the ini cost is too high for the short duration of cripple and the low dmg

I completely agree. Also that daze spamming thieves are annoying on PvP.
Needs a nerf and an alternative build to compensate. Mesmers need damage nerf too.

i enter the sanctum and see him starting a 1v1 with a mesmer, 1 sec later he was instadead, funny thing was, the mesmer felt sorry for him and let him do a backstab to compare, mesmer health after backstab 50%

OP Dancing Dagger was OP, but it was really funny. I’d argue old mug was more OP, though :p
I think SS itself is too powerful and nerfs to it could justify changes and buffs to the thief as a whole, inclusive of D/P.
Right now, the thief is difficult to balance for builds like D/D and P/P because modifications substantial enough to make those builds viable would overbuff D/P in most cases. Spamming 3 (or 2, or any skill) shouldn’t be rewarded on any build.
It’s also pretty hard to dodge a third time after dodging stab and steal, and in most cases, a D/P build will have the init to use SS twice in case one fails.
I would argue D/P’s relative strength is holding the rest of the class back. As far as fighting other classes, I don’t have a bias because I play warrior and ranger in sPvP when I do (I used to play mesmer but PU is super lame), because I think D/P is boring and cele ele/cele engi/new mesmer are similarly boring, and D/D thief doesn’t work against anything at all.
The balance state is pretty laughable in sPvP, too. If I want balanced fights, I actually go to WvW, because everything is so strong in there it’s relatively even. Yea, you can die in one hit, but that’s part of the skill requirement to avoid. A lot of stab builds fail to burst me down because I react and expect it. You can get chunked by builds that aren’t part of a meta or anything by people who play well and can push the stats they need from the available build diversity and food.

Thief seems to be in a really awkward position. The other classes will say it’s OP and has a way too huge damage burst, but Thieves can die so quickly.
I don’t play Thief (I have a Thief but I never play it) and while I can relate to the other classes about how frustrating it can be to get ganked by one, that’s the role of a Thief. They pick off single targets that wander alone.
I’ve noticed that a lot of the complaints come from people that tend to run off alone and break away from the team fights. Now granted you should have roamers that go and get quick decaps etc when they aren’t needed at a team fight, it’s the role (or one of the roles) of the Thief to prevent those roamers from getting those decaps.
If the Thief did get a nerf and it couldn’t do it’s job bursting down roamers, then it would become obsolete, as they have really weak defense and go down so quickly. I actually played a few games as my Ranger today, with an enemy Thief on the other team.
I went to get a quick decap at home, but the Thief bursted me from stealth to prevent me getting to the node. Now the Thief didn’t actually kill me as I managed to disengage him, but he did prevent me from getting to the home node. While he did deal a huge burst of damage, I didn’t really think it was OP, considering I was a Ranger and the Thief is designed to take down single targets.
I’m not really a fan of the Thieves playstyle, and while they can be frustrating to play against, I wouldn’t ever want Anet to render the class useless. It just seems like there’s a very fine line to balancing the Thief and any major nerfs could really hurt it more than fix it.
