Howdy,

Just got my original non-Thief character to 80, so I used my 80-boost on a Thief that I plan to primarily roam WvW with as a power build.

What do I need to do to get myself to the point where this is viable?

The 80 boost gave me:
Base thief abilities/traits
Exotic Valkyrie gear (Dagger x2, Short Bow)
In addition, I have about 45g & 60K Karma from my other character & I salvaged everything I ever came across. (I only recently bought the game and have few laurels.)

At a minimum, I’d like to quickly get Daredevil fleshed out and pick up an Exotic Pistol.

Ideally, I’d also like to get a full-set of Berserker gear and work off that as my base – so I can begin relying on active-mitigation for survival. Marauder also seems great but from what I understand it’s much more difficult to obtain and similar results can be achieved via mixing-and-matching Berserker w/ Valkyrie.

For Daredevil HPs, it seems I should get on a “HoT HP Extravaganza” to rush the HPs. But after that I’m at a loss.

How do I pick up an Exotic Pistol?
How should I go about retooling my gear for Berserker? Should I try to replace my Exotic Valkyrie with Exotic Berserker or just begin working on Ascended Berserker?

And finally, at what point will I be adequately geared to enjoy WvW roaming? If it’s now, will it provide decent progression for all of the above or will I need to split my time between fun & progression?

Ok, here are some options for you.

1) You’ve already got valk gear. That synergizes very well with vault on staff when using daredevil runes and/or sigils of intelligence (both can be bought on the TP I think). Buy a valk staff and the runes/sigils and go to town.

2) Buy a pistol and run D/P. I recommend full zerk, but even exotics are pretty pricey. You can get away with valk if you run daredevil runes again. If you want zerk, but don’t want to pay, you can get armor and weapons for free from reward tracks or dungeons.

3) Named dire armor is super cheap. You can run P/D or D/D and have a durable condi build. It isn’t as fast at killing guards etc., but it’s a solid, reasonably priced option.

Edit: Even if you buy zerk, dire, or w/e, hang on to the valk gear. It’s nice to have options.

play wvw (you can go with blob. use shortbow 4 to tag ppl) → earn tokens → buy gear from tokens and minimal gold @ wvw armorsmith/weaposmith → unlock daredevil from wvw hero point coins.
there are 2k tutorials and builds all around the internet. watch some vids decide what playstyle you want then try to have fun.

^ That is a pretty strong WvW roaming build for you. It is a condi build, gear is pretty easily obtainable on the trading post.

Simply play WvW. With the recent addition of Reward Tracks, you can comfortably pick up 3 Berserker weapons from a full Reward Track (I know the Arah track weapons give this option, aswel as the Citadel of Flame), the final reward in the track will also give you an exotic piece of Armor that you could also set to Berserker.
By doing WvW you’ll also gain Badges of Honour that you can use to buy Exotic Armor with from the Armor Master (they can be found at the spawn points of any WvW map).

I’d buy the Sigils/Runes that you need and work on weapons/armor through the reward tracks (at least the weapons) and from Badges of Honour.

The build’s worthless, it doesn’t kill anyone who’s not a complete idiot because they can simply walk away from your source of damage and there won’t be anything you can do about it.
Also, the OP clearly stated to be looking for a power build. Don’t advertise your own website like this, go delve into proper SEO tools if you want more traffic your way.

If you enjoy wvw, just go in and play with what you have atm and adjust your gear accordingly to how u fare. Instead of getting full zerker like every super pro thief suggested, try instead using a combo of gears so hit certain stats such as X% of precision, etc etc depending on your build. As you get better you will know what stats you want on your gear to match ur build and play style then play with build editor and start crafting your ascended.

Mix valkyrie and berserker gear perhaps, pack runes or even daredevil runes, for guaranteed crit after a dodge.

Becareful with going fill bersker as you will only have something like 12k at the most – health. Aiming for 40% crit chance is easy to get with mixed valk and bersker gear. I would also advice staying away from condition builds as they promote poor and lazy game play.

And yes, like others said wvw reward tracks is the best thing to do at this stage. You will also discover your min/max stats that you aim to achieve too.

I’ve killed plenty of people on it lol. If he is new to thief, that build is pretty easy to play, tanky enough to survive and its not like he will be skilled right out the gate on a class that usually gets 2 shotted by most people if played full zerk.

I’m just showing people builds, traffic doesn’t matter. It is a good location to see builds that I’ve played and worked for me. I don’t have a huge stream following, but those who do watch my stream also ask me for my builds frequently, which is why I made the site to begin with lol.

I’m kind of in the same situation as well. Luckily I had zerker ascended accessories so that helped out. Thought about going full zerk but after seing some of the replies and seeing I would only have about 12k hp, i don’t think its the best option to start with, but I could be wrong. I’m thinking I’ll stick with valk armor and weapons and zerk accessories for now and see how it all plays out. I’ve been unlocking most skills and other stuff through wvw notary tokens. Join a zerg this way you can test different play styles and and have some assistance with other people around until you get the hang of it. I got my pistol from the trading post, I got zerk but should have probably got valk, cost me about 10g.
