Guidance: D/P Counters Staff?
it depends. on the day more then anything. I do not play much pvp anymore but we all know d/p counters s/d. in my latest match ups there are some d/p thives that just counter me hard (not that they kill me fast, just that i can not do much vs them) then other times i just kill them in 10 seconds (no they are not bad before anyone 1 jumps the gun… they know what they are doing)
as for staff vs d/p… d/p has the edge if they open in stealth, but the staff can just use #3 and #4 which is a lot of pressure vs a d/p thief. the AA on staff is pretty solid too, steal + weakerning charge is a nasty spike from a staff thief. most typical staff thieves will happerly waist initiative and spam vualt, just dodge/interrupt when the emote of vualt does the nose dive into the ground.

Yea, neither is really a hard counter.
ya staff and d/p are pretty even in a fight. Depends on who makes the first mistakes.
dp counters staff only becouse of more stealth oportunites and pulmonary trait. I would rate it 60/40. However keep i mid that smart staff thief will avoid this duel so there will not be many oportunities
I’ve gone against a lot of d/p thieves with staff and it’s usually the first mistake determines the fight. The better stealth access from d/p gives a lot of trouble to staff, but a solid hook strike into vault and weakening charge downs most before they react or if they’re out of stun breaks. Blinds tend to work very well against staff if they don’t AA or weakening charge since the other attacks are single hit.
I’ve heard that D/P Daredevil counters Staff Daredevil really hard. But when playing D/P, fighting Staff players doesn’t seem like an easy win to me. A lot of the problem is I don’t see it in Ranked enough to get good practice in, and then when I do see it I’m struggling against the BD and Vault spam. Not that I always lose, but it doesn’t seem to be as easy a win as people make it out to be.
Pretty sure I’m doing something wrong or approaching the problem incorrectly, so any advice would be appreciated.
i would not consider d/p a hardcounter in 1v1 situation, however in comquest it’s a pain in the staff player’s butt. The d/p can just stealth camp the staff player who can’t really do much about it. It going to eate the stealth spike and then the d/p’s team can just focus it down.
As for giving some help regarding 1v1’s:
you have to swap weapons a lot vs staff. SB is your best friend in this matchup paired up with some stealth camping. Practice evading vault with sb#3 etc…
The things you have to REALLY watch out is basi venom and steal combos. if you can meenage those, you are good to go.
Ya for most thief 1v1, shortbow is essential. If you are fighting another thief and don’t pull it out, you can get killed fast. I find most of my 1v1 thief fights are a couple of swings at eachother, then we both swap to shortbow, and once one thief feels the advantage, burst attempts are made. (using physical skills we can burst quite hard in sb)

been practising steal/cluster bomb combo. that can work quite nice

Keep in my mind we have 2 weapon sets. It’s never D/P vs Staff, it’s D/P + x vs Staff + x. If you play staff, you’re likely to also have a SB or double pistols. Both can ruin the D/P’s plan.
