Hello everyone,
I took a long break, haven’t played since October. (school took over) So here I am collecting news.
I read a fews titles in the first with pages of the forum, not too satisfactory. I still love the Thief a lot, so I hope you guys will warm my heart with good news. I don’t see anymore Thief videos anymore like before so that’s also kind of a bad sign.
Here are few questions concerning my interest, which are mainly about killing people.
- How is WvW?
- How is the PvP?
- Is the Thief more fluid than October?
- Do we have to roll Daredevil because of increased competition?
- How about its survivability and how dangerous are anti-steal counters?
Also please rate the Thief out of 10.

WvW is actually fairly good, depending mainly on where you are. Obviously, some server pairings (they have created a temporary merger system to deal with population issues) are more successful than others.
The “power creep” of HoT is that many classes gained access to additional sustain while still putting out fair damage. For thief this has meant “endless dodge” through access to vigor.
Daredevil is highly recommended because it is a hybrid of defense/offense in both power and condition formats. It will synergize well with most builds. That isn’t to say it is required, but you will need to work harder to find the synergy you are looking for in other trait combinations. Trickery is still, due to initiative pool increase, highly synergistic with most builds as well.
Right now, the meta spec seems to be X, Trickery, Daredevil, with Deadly Arts often in the place of X. I don’t think you need Daredevil, but Unhindered Combatant is addicting due to being essentially immune to cripple/immobilize and have easy perma swiftness.
I won’t give a rating because depending on the play style thief can be the best or the worst class in the game—with a heavy reliance on player skill to make some builds more reliable than they appear “out of the box.”
Thanks for the feedback. I see a bunch of changes on the trait lines. I hope my gear isn’t completely obsolete, I was running valkyrie last time. As long as it is still playable, I guess I will give it a try.

lack of videos is due to how hard is to make a difference in this game. there is little to no chance to make real big plays that could shown in a video. Also the majority of the over decent thief players who made videos left the game.

you are useless in big scale combat, but the class is still good for roaming and small group fighting
- How is the PvP?
The meta D/P build got some decent matchups and you can soloq with it at any level and prty much carry the game if you are good enough.
- Is the Thief more fluid than October?
what do you mean by fluid? If i compare the stealth camping shadow arts builds from before HoT and the endless dodge impact spammer Daredev then it is 300% more fast-paced.

kind of. I’d say the best build w/o daredevil is 40% less effective.

Also please rate the Thief out of 10.
Survivability is insane and dumber than ever, all the new dodges are broken by design, not to mention the new heal. About steal.. you gonna land it if you are careful. Everyone is spamming everything they got on the skillbar, you can find animations for it any time.
I wouldn’t rate the class, there is no point. If you want to indicate how viable it is in pvp combat then 10/10.
Last summer it was all about D/P, before I left it was all still all about D/P…
I do wish they added some flavour into the profession. I might try out Staff or S/D.
Is valkyrie amor and berserk Weapons and trinkets still viable? for WvW?
