good time to change throw gunk
Maybe have the stolen skill from engi be a number of things? Like the stolen skill could be an elixir effect or a engi kit effect?. Get either a grenade throw or an elixir toss or a bomb?

there is a ton of bad stolen skills both in pvp and pve
stolen skills need a major rework and soon especially considering that nearly every profession got their profession skills significantly upgraded while thieves are still stuck with their old steal

It can be great when timed with an Immobilize from either Shortbow stealth skill or by timing it with a Panic Strike proc. It’s also rather good for downed pressure.
That said, I’d gladly take the stolen skill that Vaxjani suggested. Throw Gear would be really nice indeed…

I agree completely especially with the downed pressure.

well im not sharing u guys opinion about the other prof steals. the other skills offer a beautiful chance to counter the enemy, keeping every fight exciting. but where the thiefs needs the counter the most, there is none.
on the other hand thief needs to limit his abilites more and more to himself instead of group support so steal might be a good spot to place some (like healing seed).
Try stealing from one class and then switch to another. That random ability is hard to predict and counter.

Nope. That would go to Warrior Twirl, Ranger seed, Thief stealth (which is a tuft of hair, isn’t that weird?), and mesmer plasma (are we stealing their blood and drinking it?), and necro fear. Necro fear is so good.
Throw Gunk gets me around 5 stacks confusion on en enemy with a whirl in my d/d condition build. This a nice add to the torments/bleeds and poison.
In the power builds I use it with the Chaos armor is welcome offering both condtrions apps to the enemy (weakness confusion crippled) and boon procs to myself. (protection swiftness regen).
If an enemy or enemies continue to attack while armor up you get multiple apps of those boons and conditions.
the damage it does directly is not the primary component of the skill. The fact it an ethereal field is. Use the field Luke!

Even if they nerf a lot of the passives of other classes, my D/D still would be unviable. Even if they nerf classes and rework SA so I can use CiS and SRej, nothing would change. Even if they did all of that, the evades without evades would still be there, my CnD would miss more often than it hits anyway. Even if they fix all of the former there’s still forced reveal which turns me into a lootbag. Even if they fix and remove all of the above I would still be stealthed non stop by allies = messing up my “rotations” = yes, I finally lost hope.
They can change throw gunk into throw chunk – it still wouldn’t mean a thing.

Also: This is pvp and I play wvw – the “balance” that happened last patch was just rune nerfes – wvw is still as it used to be.
Throw gunk for PvP was VERY useful against engies on point. I remember standing on point thinking I can hold out vs a thief on forest a long time ago….boy was I surprised at that gunk’s damage.
The problem is now they’ve given so much sustain/condi clear to engi it really is out dated for you guys

Throw gunk is a fantastic finisher. It’s great for preventing downed state healing via its pulsing damage and poison application, and also frequently pops blind, enabling some safe stomps. It’s also fantastic for comboing condition play via either physical projectiles or whirling with D/D condi (despite the fact I hate the build with a passion). You can cast it with no target and have it land on your feet for no projectile reflection/prevention and get free chaos armor.
I’d argue it’s a really weak stolen item mid-fight because of projectile reflection on scrapper, but the gear proposal would be even more damaging/less useful for that exact reason.

Good idea, but you simultaneously need to take their burst ability, their heal, their condi removal .. and probably something I just forgot.
Stolen skills are mostly fine. Every other steal item I can make good use of against its class. Gunk is definitely the worst. Stealing the powder keg toolbelt skill from the bomb kit would be fun. Or the knockback gun skill.
ehh chaos armor is a pretty decent thing to have isnt it…
