Hey everybody,

I’ve seen a few threads around where people are posting their builds, but those threads are getting lost in the throng of other posts on the forum. So, I present to you, a build thread.

  • Post your favorite builds here.
  • Be sure to post as many details about your build and how you play it so others may benefit from your knowledge.

I’ve seen a lot of sPvP greatsword builds, but I feel mine is slightly different.

I prefer 30 points into discipline for two reasons. First, the 100% chance to rally from a successful vengeance kill can be extremely helpful, and secondly having movement skills break immobilize is also another great trait to have.

From most of the greatsword builds I’ve seen out there, it seems most recommend using a 1h/shield as your secondary weapons. I can’t help but disagree. From my experience, I’ve had no problem killing players who use a shield instead of a ranged weapon. It boils down to personal preference however. I for one like to have ranged abilities and you just can’t beat the damage from the kill shot skill (so long as you use it at the right time, generally after you watch your enemy dodge twice!).

Of course I’m open to build criticism or suggestions, but for now I find that this build works quite well for me.

Edit: I changed my build, slightly.

Decided to take 10 points out of arms and move it to defense instead. I think this is a better choice.

It says “incredible”.

I build as a pure damage dealer with some utility. I use GS as my main source of damage but switch to LB when I need the range or to use Burning Shot to combo with a group.

The slot skills are my general running around skills, bolas/shrapnel mine for kiting the bigger dudes, banner of tactics for it’s swiftness boost so I can run around faster, and battle standard to rez idiotic npcs.

When I’m in a dungeon I switch out the slot skills accordingly for the dungeon I’m in, I’ll throw in shake it off if we’re in a dungeon where we are constantly getting conditioned to death like kitten SE, Fear me/stomp when we’re fighting a boss that mass summons little pricks, and balanced stance/endure pain when I’m getting sick of being focused by bosses.

I might switch out 20 discipline for 20 tactics but I REALLY like sweet revenge.

my gear is Vigil honor with the regular Pow/Vit/Tough stats. i have mostly rares, an exotic chest and legs from karma vendors in Orr. everything as far as armor/weapons is pow/vit/tough, my trinkets are all cleric, masterwork.

my shouts heal for 1750 each, enough to support the party usually. i have signet of healing as i feel it’s the best heal to go along with my defense, i never have to use anything besides shouts to heal. i like the shouts more than banners, since they’re more spiky heals and remove conditions. absolutely DO NOT trade shake it off for anything, ever. it removes two conditions with this build, heals, has a low cooldown AND will get the party off theirkitten right away when hit by knockbacks, knockdowns, etc.

my traits are 10/0/30/30/0. i generally run with shield master, missile deflection, leg specialist, defy pain and of course the shout traits. in the power line i take berserker’s power since i only pop the burst skill for CC purpose when there’s a large group of mobs. for pvp i use restorative strength, shrug it off and turtle’s defense.

the minor traits are all good. you got extra armor, faster revives, more power the more toughness you stack, +400 toughness when reviving, etc.

EDIT: to the poster above, don’t even go full healing. stack some toughness and power. if you’re the only support in the party where such a thing matters(dungeon/sPvP) it’s a fail anyways. with people at least watching their ownkitten as far as positioning, healing or just cleansing this build will be a great suppliment. you’re not meant to be a monk.

Hallo, i am a lvl 80 Charr warrior (Belgrave), and this is my PVE DPS build.

30 Strength, why ? . I find that using XII- “Berserker’s Might” is a most in a 2h sword build, since Keeping up the 20% crit chance effect of “Arcing slice” is so important.

20 Arms, why ? . Arcing slice gives an AMAZING boost to score a critical hit, so this is why is a great idea to get advantage of X- “Forceful Greatsword”. Gaining might per critical hit will increase your dps by a great deal.

20 Discipline, why ? . VII “Sweet Revenge”, if you Bite off more than you can chew This is a great tool to have. Plus the 20% increased critical damage is a most.

My rotation : Hundred Blades/Whirlwind Attack to build up my first ArcingSlice. Follow up with some Brutal strikes to get some Vulnerabilities down for more +dmg.

Now this is when “Berserker’s Might” and “Forceful Greatsword” come into play and magic happens. Might will be stacked, Berserker’s might will activate and Arcing Slice will be kept up.

If Arcing is done with 3 adrenaline bars, you will have fury for a good 9s. Now i like using “Signet of Fury” which instantly give you 3 bars of adrenaline. This can be used to pull off a combo of Hundred Blades/Whirlwind Attack using the bonus of Arcing slice and taking the advantage of : V- Berserker’s power ( Stage 3/12% dmg), and V- Heightened Focus ( Stage 3/9% crit chance).

This is a heavy DPS build and you will be very squishy. I recommend Laying down some rotations then roll away and range. IF done right, you will Melt faces and survive.

Mace/shield and hammer for weapons gives a lot of opportunity to interrupt/stun/knockback/etc. Using Stop and Kick skills extends this with even more ways to control the enemy. With traits focused on Defense and Discipline, there’s a lot of opportunity to rapidly regain adrenaline and have reduced cooldowns.

No doubt, this build is extremely weak against anything with Stability or Unstoppable. Otherwise, with good timing, you’ll be able to constantly interrupt your foes and prevent them from doing much of anything.

I stack lots of bleeds and can sometimes just leave them to die. I chose Physical utility skills because Sword+Shield doesn’t have a lot but 2 leaps, a block, and a cripple, I needed something to get away from enemies to heal or pull out my rifle (to stack more).

I switch the utility skills around. I learned from experience that THERE WILL BE A LOT OF CONDITIONS. so I placed Signet of Stamina for the “Oh Crap!” moments. I put “For Great Justice!” skill to have a Win-Win thing, I put might on me AND allies. Banner of Defense, doesnt really matter, but I feel somewhat special placing it down for my teammates.

Note:Signet of Rage in WvW is only used for its swiftness for its quick travelling.
I’m not so good on making my own builds, so please give me advices or some changes around this build.

Pros:

-Almost impossible to kill, can go head on with up to 4 people in WvW and survive/take them down without problem.
-With my current gear I have about 30k hp, my current gear is quite mixed as I haven’t finish my exotic set so I’m hoping this number will go up.
-Strong against almost every class, so far only class I can’t kill 1 vs 1 is good guardians. Then again they can’t kill me either.

The Cons:

-Lack mobility and range control, so enemies might escape if they got swiftness or other speed increase, teleportation or far movement skills.
-Doesn’t hit as hard as a great sword or puts conditions on the enemy like a sword.

I plan on switching the rifle for a long bow to add a bit of control at range, but have yet to find a good long bow .

I use a Hammer and Mace/Axe as my off-set. Switching to a Bow or Rifle when ranged is needed. My utility skills are Healing Signet, FGJ, SIO, OMM, and Signet of Rage. I have alot of defense and put out good damage. As for equipment, I got 3 pieces of Knight’s armor, and 3 pieces of Vaklyrie. When I get my jewelery it’ll probably set up for pure damage since I get plenty of defense already.

Plan to get a Knight’s Exotic Hammer, Knight’s Exotic Mace, and Vaklyrie’s Exotic Axe one of these days

Don’t ask if it’s good for PvP because I pretty much only PvE

Goal: High DPS and decent survive-ability.
Reasoning:
* Strength(20): additional 22% damage while using Great-sword, pretty self-explanatory.

*Arms(20): Stacking vulnerability on mobs in dungeons helps the entire party, gaining might on critical hits + 20% reduced cooldown on hundred blades and Whirlwind is amazing for both damage and survive-ability (while in the animation of Whirlwind you evade).

*Tactics(20): This is where taking ‘For Great Justice" and ’Signet of Rage’ comes in handy, an increased 20% boon duration on both of those allows you to keep up ~20-25 stacks of might during any fight along with gaining might on critical hits. The increased boon duration means that you will always have at least 2 boons on you, Fury(20% crit chance) and might which in turn with taking Empowered in the first slot increases your damage even further. Lung capacity to allow you to spam ‘For Great Justice’ .

*Dicipline(10): an extra 9% crit chance, more crits more might.

Playstyle: The basic playstyle is keeping ‘For Great Justice’ and ‘Signet of Rage’ constantly on cooldown, keeping extra stacks of might and Fury on you at all times. Kiting is important with this build as you will not have the survive-ability to take more than a few hits from the stronger mobs, use Whirlwind and dodges and if you ever get in a situation where you are in trouble just proc ‘Endure Pain’ to get out of it. with this build you will never be using your ‘Arcing Slice’ as you are already gaining permanent Fury from FGJ and SOR which has the added benefit of always netting you the 12% more damage and 9% more crit from the Traits and always allowing you to get the stage 3 heal from ‘Healing Surge’. I will ocasionally swap to a Long-Bow or rifle if the boss fights become too intense for mele but for the most part I stay in Greatsword for the entire dungeon.

Additional Comments: I tend to run a Chocolate Omnomberry Cream at all times since I will always get the 40% magic find since I always have boons up along with having the extra boon duration on my might stacks.

I swap out the ‘Banner of Defense’ with ‘Shake if Off’ occasionally if a fight is heavy on conditions.

I run full Berserker Gear and jewlrey with 5 runes of the Pirate and 1 Travelers rune, I don’t know how much magic find does for me but I like having it.

This is an all-purpose sword/warhorn build that I’ve been using at level 80 with great success. I wanted a setup that would let me switch from solo play to dungeon runs to PvP without ever having to visit the trainer. I’ve tried every build imaginable, and this is the only one that hits all the marks for me.

The setup as listed is what I usually run around with solo, or when dungeon running. It focuses heavily on bleed damage, so I maximize it with Ravager gear for +power, +precision and +condition.

Before you scoff at the warhorn and reach for your offhand axe, note that Quick Breathing in Tactics reduces the cooldownby 20% AND converts 1 condition into a boon. So, every 16 seconds you’re gaining Vigor, Quickness, two random boons, purging conditions on your group and weakening enemies around you. Now take a look at Empowered in Tactics: Increase damage for every boon on you. That’s a lot of benefit and bonus damage for two horn blasts. Not to mention, weakness and quickness makes warhorn an amazing option for escaping bad situations.

Sword is superior to axe (main hand), in my opinion, because of its flexibility and free bleeds in the auto attack that synergize (if it’s not a word, it should be) with condition focused traits like Precise Strikes and Deep Cuts. Without using the burst, I’ll typically maintain 10-15 stacks of bleed on the target. After bursting with Flurry, it’ll climb to 20-25 stacks. Now throw in Hamstring and Savage Leap (which is also a finisher) to close the gap.

You also have a high critical strike chance that triggers Furious. Typically, I’ll burn all of my adrenaline on Flurry and be back at 2 bars of adrenaline by the time the burst ends, which ensures that I’m maximizing the damage bonus of Berserker’s Power.

Support comes in two flavors: healing shouts and banners. The one listed in the build leverages Vigorous Shouts in Tactics to make all shouts heal you and your group. You could also replace Signet of Fury with Shake it Off for a third shout-heal. The banner support option is best suited for static dungeon fights:

Swap Berserker’s Power in Strength for Powerful Banners.
Swap Empowered and Vigorous Shouts for Inspiring Banners and Inspiring Battle Standard in Tactics.
Swap utility skills to Banners of Strength, Defense and Tactics, and your elite Battle Standard.

And finally (because this build needs more flexibility!), you can swap Quick Breathing for Stronger Bowstrings in Tactics, or Blademaster for Crack Shot in Arms if you need to go ranged, like at PvP keep battles. Crack Shot is great for underwater battles too!

Insane flexibility. Never having to visit the trainer again. Priceless.

with this build i have a total of:
five 1-2secs stuns
one 5secs immobilize
two knockbacks
one cripple
one 8sec weakness
one 1sec daze
two 3secs and 1sec blocks that reflect missiles

Here is a video of me using this build. Keep in mind that in the video it was only my 2nd playthrough using this build so some refinement in my play still needs to be made and i didnt have the proper rune set on my armor since i forgot to change it but overall the video shows what this build is capable of.

I’m a banners / signets warrior.
Some players say that pure signet warrior is better , but I prefer to use banners as well.
Banners give us more bonus than signets do.
With -20% banners recharge we can use banners all the time XD .
I wield Dual Axes / Great Sword which give me an advantage to slash my enemy with deadly attacks.

All 80es > MM necro is my best ,cleric
guard ,nades eng ,Trap thief \ranger ,signet\shout warrior, zerk mes\ele & shiro rev.

Thinking of using this as me new damage, crit build. Its a edit of my original build I have been using. I run Dual Axe with the Draconic Berserker set (Power, Precision, Crit Dmg %).

I play WvW and I know this type of build is usually frowned upon (glass cannon) but I like being able to put out a lot of burst.

Any ideas I could use to tweak the build would be much appreciated.

Was discussing rifle warriors in a different thread, figured I’d talk about mine here.

I’m a rifle warrior, and at least for PvP it’s great. It’s also good for dungeons.

It isn’t very good for farming cursed shore and for regular PvE such as story missions, but it works pretty kitten well in WvW. I run a build where my armor is power/toughness/vitality with all runes of the infiltrator, my jewelery is all slated for power/precision/crit damage, and my slots are Endure Pain/Frenzy/Stomp/Signet of Rage.

It works pretty well. I can run around the map quickly with signet of rage, I rarely switch to melee in WvW because my rig just lags too much to be reliable with melee except in small skirmishes, and I have all sorts of control. For traits I can’t recall off the top of my head(I know for sure Crack Shot, the 1s Immobilize on cripple, and 12 percent damage/9 percent crit chance on full adrenaline, because I don’t use my burst skill, self-root = bad)

That way I have an immobilize with aimed shot, as well as throwing my axe in melee, then I have rifle butt and smash to keep people away from me. Runes of the infiltrator also make is so that if I’m about to die I stealth, which can buy you vital time to roll away or call for help from guildies.

Let me know what you guys think, it’s worked really well for me so far. Lots and lots of direct damage as well as survivability. All the control lets you do 1v1 out in the world pretty efficiently, and in a team at the skirmishing level it’s an excellent build for taking down enemies one by one and staying alive to dance on the bodies.

The thing is, I rarely see good rifle warriors. I get lots of kills, I die rarely, and contribute greatly in WvW fights. But for some reason I’ve never been in a situation where I’m getting tagged and aggressively owned and go “ kitten that guy has a better rifle warrior than me”

Aside from adaptations of the Run N’ Gun SPvP build, I haven’t really seen any popular WvW rifle builds floating around out there. Which I guess is good as it means less competition.

Built this with a heavy support role in mind. I’ve wanted something with unbelievable survivability, and support features. This build offers several CC options with Mace and Shield and ranged options with Rifle. It also offers several self heals and Buffs/Boons with shouts etc. Good synergy throughout the build. Great distance finisher with 100% Crit on switch to Rifle too.

Maybe I’m missing something here. I don’t plan to be a high damage dealer, but more or less some sustainable damage with great survival tools and a good addition to a group. In lieu of a lot of complaints I have read about WvWvW survival, this might be one answer.

Totally different way to play a warrior though..

I recently got a bit bored, and I fell on top of this set up today. I still need to practice more with it, but I am rather enjoying it as is. Dunno what to do with the weapon sigils just yet, so feel free to mess around with that.

The basic idea is to get 15% more damage when the foe is weakened, alongside very very heavy condition removal. I dont know what to do with the elite, so I might as well go with the one that stacks more boons for more damage.

This is a skirmishing build and would not be as effective for keep defending. Although you could still pump out some serious single-target dmg.

In a 1v1 situation you should do very well AND have the ability to get a nice crit on a fleeing Thief / Mesmer / Elementalist.

In dungeons I recommend using the rifle to DPS and the warhorn to support your allies.

-Axe/mace build with hyper-regen(5 counting food, 6 with regen booster)
-More on the defensive side but can still dish out damage
-Main drawback is Condition removal(can be remedied by replacing runes with “Soldier” or the Dolyak signet with Signet of Stanima.)
-Good for keeping permanent fury might and swiftness
-20 sec AoE KD on mace can save you a couple seconds of pain if you need to regen
-Sword/horn mainly for getting around but the bleeds/cripple/weakness(and vigor) can help alot, can also switch it out for a rifle or bow

This is an all-purpose sword/warhorn build that I’ve been using at level 80 with great success. I wanted a setup that would let me switch from solo play to dungeon runs to PvP without ever having to visit the trainer. I’ve tried every build imaginable, and this is the only one that hits all the marks for me.

The setup as listed is what I usually run around with solo, or when dungeon running. It focuses heavily on bleed damage, so I maximize it with Ravager gear for +power, +precision and +condition.

Before you scoff at the warhorn and reach for your offhand axe, note that Quick Breathing in Tactics reduces the cooldownby 20% AND converts 1 condition into a boon. So, every 16 seconds you’re gaining Vigor, Quickness, two random boons, purging conditions on your group and weakening enemies around you. Now take a look at Empowered in Tactics: Increase damage for every boon on you. That’s a lot of benefit and bonus damage for two horn blasts. Not to mention, weakness and quickness makes warhorn an amazing option for escaping bad situations.

Sword is superior to axe (main hand), in my opinion, because of its flexibility and free bleeds in the auto attack that synergize (if it’s not a word, it should be) with condition focused traits like Precise Strikes and Deep Cuts. Without using the burst, I’ll typically maintain 10-15 stacks of bleed on the target. After bursting with Flurry, it’ll climb to 20-25 stacks. Now throw in Hamstring and Savage Leap (which is also a finisher) to close the gap.

You also have a high critical strike chance that triggers Furious. Typically, I’ll burn all of my adrenaline on Flurry and be back at 2 bars of adrenaline by the time the burst ends, which ensures that I’m maximizing the damage bonus of Berserker’s Power.

Support comes in two flavors: healing shouts and banners. The one listed in the build leverages Vigorous Shouts in Tactics to make all shouts heal you and your group. You could also replace Signet of Fury with Shake it Off for a third shout-heal. The banner support option is best suited for static dungeon fights:

Swap Berserker’s Power in Strength for Powerful Banners.
Swap Empowered and Vigorous Shouts for Inspiring Banners and Inspiring Battle Standard in Tactics.
Swap utility skills to Banners of Strength, Defense and Tactics, and your elite Battle Standard.

And finally (because this build needs more flexibility!), you can swap Quick Breathing for Stronger Bowstrings in Tactics, or Blademaster for Crack Shot in Arms if you need to go ranged, like at PvP keep battles. Crack Shot is great for underwater battles too!

Insane flexibility. Never having to visit the trainer again. Priceless.

I recently started a Warrior (2 nights ago) and started with a sword and warhorn and really liked the fact that it had massive bleeds on it for massive damage overall. I picked up a GS and used that most of last night but as much fun as that is I am tossing up between GS or sword/wh. I haven’t found a hammer to use yet so I might like that as well.

My point to this is I started getting trait points (only 14) and confused where to put them first up. Was thinking toughness as I will be mostly soloing but I think if I go with a sword build precision or strength might be a better option.

What do you think would be better to spend points in first with this build? Str for condition duration or arms for condition damage. I am thinking arms as I am soloing most mobs will usually die before full bleed runs out anyway.

Would love to hear your thoughts.

Simple straightforward build that I typically use for WvW … Enjoy !

Goals
keep crit% at around 30 (50 with signet of rage)
high dmg output with reasonable survivability

Gear
4 Berserker’s pieces with 2 Valkyrie pieces
-currently 6 runes of dolyak for extra toughness/vit and health regen
-ruby rings and amulet , Valkyrie earrings for some more tough/vit
-axe/shield -- axe/warhorn
– (keep extra rifle,longbow,axe on person at all times =p)
– sigil of blood/blood (or purity) and sigil of leeching on offhand.
Usually use sigil of ice on my ranged weapons

-most of the main gear is exotic except the accessories
-Shield is also not exotic for some strange reason

Traits
30 strength – ’Berserker’s Power’ ‘— Restorative str’ — ‘Axe Mastery’

30 defense – ‘Embrace the pain’ — ‘Shield Master’ — ‘Last stand’ (bugged) so I use like turtles defense or something as I am likely on the front lines

10 discipline – Signet Mastery — I use this baby to get a 48 second signet of fury cooldown and the 16 sec healing signet. So if I need to use it at least it will be close to par with the others

skills
-‘Healing signet’ – active is ok (7200 health every 32 sec that removes crippled, chilled, immobilize and weakness once every 16 sec) , and passively it couples with dolyak rune and sigil of blood and food to give decent health regen.
-‘Dolyak signet’- inc toughness
-‘shake it off’ – removes condition
-‘Signet of power’ – this one can be swapped out and I usually do so with fear or endure pain or whatever other utility skill you want.
-‘Signet of Rage’ – required

Not much more to it other then playing smart. Good build for hanging around the front lines taking people out… but have also had very good success with 1v1’s.

*Note: don’t use eviscerate unless signet of rage is active as you will likely not crit, instead utilize the dmg gain from berserkers str until it is active.

Results
Combo’s like (throw axe-shield bash-eviscarate-smack smack) can do anywhere from10-20k damage depending on the target, and that is in a pretty short amount of time. Axe also hits 3 targets for damage so its great for this build.

Took some screenshots of expected potential stats as well as some combat log stuff — from last weeks wvw —haven’t played much this week sorry. Also much longer then I was planning but oh well =p

Warrior PVE Leveling Build

Axe/Warhorn <> Rifle <> Signets

Why?
Solo mobs 3-4 levels higher. (and complete stories 3 to 4 levels in advance of the recommended)
Axe = damage damage damage. (and damage)
Warhorn = large up time for speed boost to get around maps, condition removal, buff friends/debuff foes .
Rifle = Burst range damage (kill most mobs before they reach melee range.)

How?
Balance them about 60% Axe/warhorn 40% rifle (would be more 50/50 but the Warhorn is out for traveling). Healing signet, Signet of Might, Signet of Stamina, Signet of Fury, Signet of rage.

Rotation(s): Axe/Warhorn default for Charge = Get around / escape

Rifle – Butal shot, Aimed shot, Bleeding shot, Volley, Rifle butt and repeat or switch to Axe/Warhorn

Axe/Warhorn – Call to arms, Chop(auto attack), Cyclone, Eviscerate, If/when they run Throw Axe, switch back to rifle…

Progression:
level 10 – 20 go Arms to 10 taking deep strike ( hit a lot, crit a lot, they bleed a lot)
at lvl 20 go tactics to 10 and take empowered (take full advantage signet boons).
at lvl 30 go defense and take turtles defense (mobs are getting tougher)
at lvl 40 go arms to 20 and take crack shot (get more use out of the rifle)
at lvl 50 go tactics to 20 and take quick breathing (don’t underestimate a horny warrior)
at lvl 60 go defense to 20 and take last stand (stand up stay alive kill mobs)
at lvl 70-79 go defense to 29 (keep ramping up that toughness and healing to scale with mobs)

Above is my Hammer/Rifle build. The hammer would be used almost exclusively, rifle swaps for being outranged for a little (due to lower mobility than GS warriors, but you DO have bull’s charge) or to hit people in towers/keeps in WvW. The hammer offers high damage potential AND control, so it would be used in most PvE situations.

Gear for sPvP would be exactly as listed, and for PvE you’d go full berserker’s (power/precision/crit dmg) gear as well. In WvW, a full set of Knight’s (power/precision/toughness) gear should do the trick, as you’d have to be more aggressive than most. Although, in a pinch, Knight’s should be sufficient for everything you do. Vitality isn’t very useful on a warrior; you already have high base HP, and it does little to affect your EFFECTIVE hp (meaning over a prolonged fight, factoring healing, how much health you’d use in total), where as toughness helps a TON.

I’m no warrior expert, so I’d like some input/advice. Lay it on me! Having trouble finding hammer builds on this subforum so I gave it my best shot in terms of overall effectiveness and utility.

o/20/30/0/20 build with hammer/riffle. The control of both weapons is so great, I can’t give them up. I ended up with a lot of armor/precision for both dmg and defense.
I have also been eyeing 0/0/20/30/20 build with reduced shout recharge/shouts heal in Discipline.

Basically the goal of this build is to keep 25 stacks of might at all times. Greatswords have a 100% chance to give might on critical and with fury up 100% it’s easy to get crits. Most of the time I use Frenzy on initiating an enemy just to get the quick stacks going. For Great Justice! and the Signet of Might should also be on perma-cooldown.

The increased boon duration (50%) along with the increased might duration (70%) help out you and your party. For Great Justice!’s duration is increased for the entire party, making it possible to keep it the might boons up around 150% and the fury about 50%.

The durability of the build might be a bit lower than a full tank build, but it’s not terribly difficult to survive. I find that I’m generally the highest damage in the party and in many cases the most durable.

I’ve run with 2 other warriors running this exact same build and everytime I glance at the party, all 3 of us (the warriors) have 25 stack or very close, and the other members have 10+ along with permanent fury. It’s not uncommon to see over 2 minutes of fury after fights.

This build is strictly PvE, I’ve used it in WvWvW and I hate it (along with the warrior class honestly) but in PvE it’s rediclously fun (more spefically dungeons).

Suggestions and comments are welcomed!

Hey everyone,

Just wanted to share my build really quick a build I’ve been testing out in spvp lately. It’s a greatsword and hammer build that focuses on might and fury for damage. With this build I will have fury up 100% of the time, and anywhere from 15-25 stacks of might up as well.

Originally I started off with hammer/sword&shield, doing a bunker shout build. This got very boring very quick. I was extremely hard to kill but being unable to put out any real damage to pressure opponents was rather frustrating. At that point i started to experiment with ways to get the GS involved with the hammer.

I found that using my burst (F1) ability with the hammer and then swapping to my GS, popping Frenzy and then hundred blades was very effective and eliminated having to pick up bulls charge, keeping this primarily a shout build.

I’ve been playing my warrior less and less, seeing that other classes in tpvp (which is what i mostly focus on in GW2) are much more viable (ele, guardian, and mesmer is what i’ve been playing). But i do find this build has very good potential in team fights, especially on forest in those big team battles at keep. It provides good “support” to your team, not in the sense of buffs and healing, but can very effectively slow down the other teams dmg with all the stuns and knockbacks, while doing good burst in the process.

The main problem, and yes its a big one, is mobility. I wouldn’t suggest this build on foefire or kyhlo because mobility is so important on those maps. But can be used with some success if in more of a bunker role, and not roaming.

I really like dual swords, but I also enjoy charging into the fray, so I wanted to get some durability. This leads to dual regen + Healing shouts + Soldier to give me 0 channel time for healing. You also can easily gain Adrenaline from people hitting you, allowing you to spam Flurry more. With three ways to purge control conditions and lots of unchanneled healing, I can focus on sticking to enemies to apply as much bleed as possible, as well as throw in the vulnerability from On My Mark. The Elite is still a toss up between Rage and Banner, since a well timed banner can reverse ONE fight, but Rage alone gives you multiple useful buffs…

Unfortunately, since regen is subpar, and my condition removal is only ok, I still fall short as far as durability goes T_T, but I still enjoy it this build. Screw shields, dual wielding is just cool! (although less effective)

A look into the Knight of Tyr build featuring shouts and Axe & Warhorn/Shield Combo. The build effectively does it all and very evenly. It runs as a jack of all trades and is fun to play.

I don’t mind answering questions and helping with the build or ideas so please comment and discuss.

Points of Interest:

  • Can 1vX to hold a point for reinforcements
  • Can heal allies and itself rather well
  • Can output great DPS
  • Has CC
  • Has excellent Condition Removal
  • Buff and Debuff abilities
  • Frequently survives escapes to fight another day and not give the enemy team free points.
  • Is not useless after pressing all cooldowns
  • Has a revive and can grant stability for some time.

The only problem with this build is I am using a riffle, and no 20% reduction in skills, it’s okay cause its a good idea for a build.

My current build is 0/20/20/30/0. I like the ranged AoE of a longbow. I am working on a way to incorporate it again, but feel I am resigned to trait swapping depending on the type of battle. That, or getting rid of “shouts heal” altogether. Also of note is the problem with a banner build, where that takes up 2 trait slots in Tactics, also.

I am at a loss because of so many useful traits depend on certain situations, plus the necessity of traits relating to what weapon we use. Any help or advice would be appreciated with my conundrum.

My Warrior Build
Using 2 axes & a Rifle or Bow

I recently purchased the official GW2 guide and this is what I am doing since reading it.

PVE Skills [the 6 7 8 9 0 keys] my keys are changed to Q E R T X for ease of my game play.

Q is Mending for Healing ( Heal myself and two conditions 3816)
E is For Great Justice ( Fury 8 seconds 20% critical / power @ 89 & condition damage @ 89 with radius 600)
R is Frenzy ( able to take 50% more damage) Breaks stun & adds quickness
T is Bulls Charge ( Damage 239, 2 second knockdown, Leap, range 600)
X is Signet of Rage ( 30 seconds @ 147 power & condition damage) 20% critical & 33% quickness

PVE Traits Focus on Discipline, Arms & remaining points in Defense while gear focus’ on Power/Precision/Critical.

Example: Arms 30pts, Defense 10 pts and Discipline 30 pts.

WvW & sPvP
Q is Healing Surge ( Adrenaline 10 with stacked healing (1) 4028 (2) 4661 (3) 5718)
E is Bolas ( Immobilize 4 seconds with damage 80 in a physical projectile with range of 900)
R is Frenzy (able to take 50% more damage) Breaks stun & adds quickness
T is Stomp ( Damage 239, Blowout 450, Radius 240, in the form of a blast)
X is Battle Standard Banner for WvW (Stability able to ignore control effects e.g. stun, knockback, launch, knockdown, sink, float, fear, daze) 20% critical, Might & Condition damage are 30 with a blast radius @ 600. Grants Fury, Might and swiftness to allies. [Shake it Off for sPvP] Cure a condition on myself & nearby ally, breaks stun with a 600 radius

WvW Traits Focus on Discipline, Arms & Remaining points in Defense. Gear focus Power/Precision/Critical for stats and gemstone/rune upgrades.
Example: Arms 30pts, Defense 10 pts and Discipline 30 pts.
Please Note: I have not done WvW yet, but this is my current plan for when I do at level 80.
If any experienced WvW pvp’rs have advice, I am more than open. I’m using this for sPvP.

Dungeons
For this I will visit the Warrior Trainer in Lions Arch and for a few silver and some copper I can reallocate my traits.
Trait reallocation to promote Toughness, vitality & healing. Defense 30 pts/Tactics 30 pts/Strength10 pts
Q is Healing Signet (passive regeneration with an active heal of 2338)
I use the signet because I do dungeons with my husband who is a guardian focusing on healing buffs and this signet compliments that well. Another option is to use the stacked healing surge.
E is Endure Pain (Take NO damage from attacks, and it breaks stun)
T is Dolyak Signet Passively reduces damage and actively gives you stability.
R is Frenzy (able to take 50% more damage) breaks stun & adds quickness
X is Battle Standard (Stability able to ignore control effects e.g. stun, knockback, launch, knockdown, sink, float, fear, daze) 20% critical, Might & Condition damage are 30 with a blast radius @ 600. Grants Fury, Might and swiftness to allies.

Gear: Toughness, Condition Damage, Vitality


Signets: The passive on a signet means that even if you don’t push the key it’s assigned to it gives you that passive benefit. Active means that you get the active benefit when you press the key it’s assigned to.

I use Cleric’s gear with soldier’s, GS with Bloodlust. I use a warhorn for extra mobility and heals.

Basically allows for competative dps while being unkillable.

For added burst, you can switch out “On My Mark” with Frenzy, and still regen and use your two shouts with + healing gear to stay up.

Another WvW Shout Build, but focus is on power, toughness and healing (no crit/precision)

Weapon Sets: Cleric’s Sword w/ Cleric’s Shield & Berzerker’s Rifle

- switch out shield for warhorn for movement
- switch out rifle for bow for attacking/defending in zerg and keeps/towers
- you’re going to be in your Sword/Shield weapon set 80% of the time

Armor: Power, Toughness, Vitality (HotW Set) w/ Full Runes of the Soldier
Jewelry: Full Exotic Cleric’s

I really enjoy this build in WvW, I may not be doing the most damage to an opponent but the survivability is so great that I can outlast most opponents even in 1v2 situations. When in zergs I usually try to penetrate the front lines, being disruptive to ranged attackers in the backfield and taking down siege equipment in the back. You also have great CC (Immobilize on cripple, Flurry, and Sheild Stun), allowing others to put a ton of damage on an opponent (I run with thieves)

I use this build cuz it’s fun in WvW, nice for dungeons because it has enough support to matter and enough range to not die all the time and bother the team. I also use it for farming, not because it’s so effective, but because it’s fun to use, you end up using a lot of skills, rather than just the same two all the time.

Strength – 10 points, Death From Above, love being able to jump and survive.
Arms – 20 points, Deep Cuts for more rifle bleeds, Crack Shot since I use rifle.
Defence – 0 points.
Tactics – 20 points, Leg Specialist for rifle immobilize, Quick Breathing for support.
Discipline – 20 points, Heightened Focus, Sweet Revenge, else downed state is useless.

I use axe/warhorn and rifle as weapons, and gear is a mix of berserker and knight.

Healing skill is mending, utilities I use kick (low CD interrupt for pve), shake it off, bolas.
Elite skill switches between banner and signet of rage, depending on situation.

The build is not great at anything, but not bad at anything either, enough utility, support and damage to be a viable jack of all trades, and unlike greatsword and hammer builds it doesn’t end up getting really boring, since I use a lot of skills at a regular basis.

My preferred stats are Healing, Precision, Vita/Tough.

With this build, one banner, set to the side of an encounter, will heal my party (previously an entire raid in CS before they reduced the efficacy to only 5 people …) for 312 per tick (second) with 1320 healing. By placing your banners efficiently around the combat zone, you can blanket a very large area with a substantial regeneration field, and only 5 seconds of downtime. If you overlap banner fields, you can have a permanent regeneration field for your group.

Note: Banner heals do no stack, just the area of effect, so it is important to keep them spread out. Now, despite the nerf to 5 people per banner, 3 banners is still up to 15 people if a raid aware group can stay within a particular banner field.

Warhorn is indispensable with Quick Breathing. converting Conditions to Boons is priceless.

I use Defensive Banner, Shake It Off, Tactical Banner, and the elite Warbanner.

My healing skill is Healing Surge.

In solo play, I often switch that to Healing Signet because the regeneration from Adrenal Health, Healing Signet, and a banner do stack, so in solo play I have approximately 650 health regeneration per second. I will throw down two banners about 50 feet apart, and start kiting mobs in a circle around them, stacking bleeds with my sword, taking very little damage. Warhorn skills make me even harder to kill because I have 3 immobilization removal tools (two warhorn skills with QB, and shake it off).

This is obviously a character design geared for group play moreso than solo play, but it is very fun to play with, essentially, I am a very hard to kill combat medic. Oh ya, in combat, my revive ticks for 759, so downed players get up fast.

And I am a highly valued commodity in WvW.

I am sure I can say more, but this should give you an idea of how to use banners effectively.
