So your complaint is that it isn’t quite a god class yet.

You won’t match a guard, but you can do somethings to help you out.

First off you need to put 30 in tactics.
From there you should look at ether choosing from banners, or shouts.
if you choose banners then trait out with cutting the CD on them & increasing they’re radius, and having them apply regeneration.
When using banners don’t use them all at once. It’s best to use your offensive banners at the start, and when your team is getting weary use your defensive banners.

If you choose shouts you need to cut the CD on shouts, have shouts heal, and lastly you would do very well to use superior soldier runes to remove conditions with each shout. Do not use “Fear Me!”, use “shake it off!”, “On My Mark!”, and "For Great Justice. A lot of ppl don’t like shout heal warriors, but that’s because ppl don’t use them very well.

You should also invest in the defense trait for one because you get survivability, but two so you can heal more when rezing or shouting.

You should also get cleric, passion, etc trinkets so you heal more. I would use Shaman for reasons I’ll soon explain.

Next your primary weapon is going to be ether a rifle or a bow, with secondary ideally being a mace and shield for survivability and CC. If you use a rifle you need to have your adept trait set to leg specialist, because you can help support your group a lot more if your target can’t get to you in the first place. If you choose a bow then that’s why you want to use shaman trickets, because of the healing, toughness, and most importantly for use with a bow condition DMG. Bow has a lot of burning which in it’s self is the highest DoT condition in the game, but it doesn’t tick down as fast as bleeding, or poison.

Lastly I would suggest you do not melee unless you are attacked in melee range.

That’s pretty much the best you can do give or take a couple of micro-manageable things.

It depends on the definition of support . Warrior may as well be a bad pure boon support , but a bad tank, i think not .

Warrior can be a great offensive tank . Hammer and dual maces come to mind . Lots of stuns , interrupts , knockdowns and the like . And a good amount of natural vitality and toughness . This game offers lots of opportunity for hyperbole builds , but seeing how most people play cookie cutter, you are expected to as well, otherwise you wont be able to PuG instance content .

When you convert the condition, it tends to favor the kittenty condition like bleeding or poison etc. Also, it is just stupid..I mean it converts fear into stability..tell me how you will convert your own fear to stability? kittened.

They should shift it around so it focses on giving you protection 1st then stability etc. Things we desperately need as warriors.

It is totally unacceptable that we have to sacrifice our rune set just to deal with the poor design/shortcomings of a warrior. Errr…. I think you are downplaying the warhorn. A traited warhorn is one of the best condition removals in the game. My only real complaint with the skill is that #4 charge is not an instant

It is. However, you sacrifice too much for it. War horn won’t save you from being focused as opposed to shield. The shield 5 for our class that struggles to survive is too valuable.

Warhorn won’t save you from being group focused, shatters, thief openers etc.

And Like I stated, it is over rated because of the poor selection of conditions to convert.

Guardians will have better survivability compared to your full tankiness and still dish out better dps while you sacrificed all yours to be an inferior tank.

sPvp is not about if you can be a good tank etc. Its all about can another class do it better. Nobody in their right mind would take a tank war over a guardian in high end tourney.

The sad thing is the class you will be most effective against is another warrior.

Sacrifice is part of build making. If you do not sacrifice anything, you will never make good builds.

In all fairness, BM Melee Ranger is just sick these days too for a different flavor of tanking (using Protection and Evades/Mobility versus Guardian Protection and Blocks/Heals).

I actually have a hard time weighing the 80 Guard v 80 BM Ranger (both geared) against each other…they both are +++++++++ to Warrior level.

@Miklzz – If you aren’t dying as a Warrior in Zerg v Zerg from time to time, your Zerg either grossly outnumbers the opposition (basically you go down occasionally and get helped back up) or you are playing a ranged warrior with escape that sits in the backlines and runs away with any sign of trouble (don’t get me wrong, warriors definitely have mobility to run away). Even then, a portal bomb or opponent properly executed flank would roll you first.

But I fail to see how this adds to the thread topic on tanking (not surviving) as you may be thinking these two very different words are one in the same – they are not in the context of WvW.

Dude play to your strengths. warriors DOMINATE PvE with massive amounts of damage. Work within your wheel house and you’ll be a lot happier with your game time.

Exactly. Kill fast or be killed is the state of the warriors right now. There are some balanced builds out there revolving around shouts or banners but you hit like a wet noodle.

It’s pretty convenient that I saw your thread while I was about to log out. I’ve been doing some theorycrafting with Sentinel gear and mixing it with apothecary and came up with this build. It’s strong point is that it has 20% protection, retal and aegis uptime due to the runes of Lyssa. With that, I’m off! Hope you try my new build.

I think a balanced build is the right way to go honestly in WvW if you plan on skirmishing (not zerging 24/7) like me. The difference to me though from the above is HIGH amount of knights gear with melandru runes, dogged march, and lemongrass food to shrug conditions off you. Then you don’t have to play the mini game of when to cleanse from a signet or shrug it off and free up a utiltiy slot for something more useful. And you don’t have to rely on vitality since the runes, food, and trait will manage the conditions for you (an argument to have high vitality is to deal with conditions). However I don’t want to forego crit chance at the expense of more hits personally.

I am like minded. I didn’t want to have to watch my conditions and worry about when to spend shouts or use mending so I picked up Melandru + Lemongrass.

I have a lot of success with this on targets that want to stick around and fight. Players that kite me or have great mobility dance around me so I have to get creative.

Bunker Guardians eventually kill me but they leave the fight without a scratch but that’s expected. Bunker Ele’s give me a hard time but if I can catch them off guard and without protection I can usually eviscerate them to cause them to run or go down.
