It is amusing to see them “take advantage of the situation”. The same way over and over again even when the roles switch. W/e it’s the only thing making the match interesting tbh.

What makes the matchup interesting is the blatant hate each server has for each other, specifically for FA.

Seems like FA has switched places with TC in camping the EB JP now. And they sure do like to emote spam.

EDIT: Home borderland is a 2v1 against the defender 90% of the time. If you aren’t used to/aware of that, I don’t know what to say.

Hate? That’s a pretty strong word.

If anything, I feel more of a competitive sense from TC and YB, atleast towards our group. I haven’t seen/heard of anyone “hating” anyone.

It’s the second week we’ve had the same matchup so I think rivalries are starting to form. The matchups are short enough and have been varied enough in the past that this really hasn’t happened before and you start to figure out how servers operate and their strategies. Are people still surprised that 2 servers will gang up on another server? This is tier 3, it will happen and all you can do is learn from it so you can counter it next time. That’s how you take fully upgraded keeps/towers, you attack the server in the weakest position in the zone. You use your enemy as a distraction and play off them. This is basic stuff for 3 faction PvP.

@ FA players who were in FA borderlands tonight. You have all just experienced something that will make you better next time. Being attacked by 2 factions at the same time and holding them off for as long as we did should be a point of pride and not something to constantly complain about. It makes us sound childish.

That’s one of the many things I like about this game, when the enemy is friendly.

I always try to not attack first when people are gathering, killing random NPC creatures (I even help depending on how well they’re doing), doing jumping puzzles, vistas, or skill points. I leave them alone, and if they attack me then that’s when I attack.

Some don’t follow that rule, but I still do even if I have been attacked when doing the above.

The two battles in FA borderland for Garrison was fun.. even though I was lagging and the enemy wasn’t rending.

Then the two battles for Bay. at the same time when the battles for Garrison were going on.

It’s a fun, close match up. I’m guessing we will be facing each other a couple more times before one of us either drops or goes up.

There is no 2v1 collusion beyond the trash talk on these forums.

Many on this server (FA) don’t seem to understand how to “use” the 3rd server on TCBL/YBBL. Generally the “home server” outnumbers both of the other servers (but generally not both other servers combined), so the “away servers” need a temporary alliance to keep the home server split. TC clearly seems to understand this, and YB quite a bit better than we do as well.

Cases in point, FABL and TCBL on this map.

On TCBL, YB made multiple attempts to capture Redlake tower. Constantly they were driven back by TC defenders (who realized the importance of keeping Red off the map) and a few of our own looking for cheap kills. Our commanders then took the tower and moved on, with the intent of letting YB have it unopposed. This was thwarted again by some on our own server. The end result: Bay keep is a 25 point tower because the outer wall is constantly down, and we are slowly being starved out.

On FABL notice YB and TC both control their “natural” tower and keeps. They know better than to attack each other, other than the constant struggle for the south supply camp (lol2v1conspiracy). The result, we’re split up defending the north side of our map, and the entire south of the map (except for the south supply camp) is relatively safe.

YBBL, we actually had a decent number of people pushing the tower. Managed to turn Bluelake tower blue for all of 5-10 minutes before it was taken back, by the home server that knew it needed to keep one of the away servers wiped.

The whole thing snowballs too. What do you think happened to the YB that we pushed off TCBL? They either went to YBBL (to further push us back, as we were the server without anything pre-established), FABL (notice they have the majority of the south of the map), or EB (notice they have SMC).

TLDR version: on the enemy borderlands, the other “away server” is almost always your friend. Do whatever you can to keep them on the map (at the very least: do not go out of your way to push them off the map). On it, they will help split the home server for you. Off it, they will be your true enemy.

EDIT: We just lost the Bay on TCBL. Kinda hard to hold against the home server on their map when they have no other distractions

I think I might have to agree with how the truces can be very fun. Several weeks ago when it was BG vs TC and FA (since they were easily dominating both of us that match up) I was deep in BG’s territory stalking a yak. I came upon it right as a TC ranger came to it. We stared across the low lying hills at each other good and hard. Then the yak made a yak sound. Moo? And we proceeded to butcher the yak. Afterwards we had a nice meal together, and did a little dancing probably. After a couple moments of friendly emote sharing, I looked over my shoulder to see the my zerg! And alas I couldn’t think of the most appropriate emote to tell my friend “Run like Hell buddy!”

It was a very fun moment to realize that we both just wanted to kill Blackgate’s yaks and that we were natural allies at this point considering the several hundred thousand point lead BG had.

Second, it worked out very well for us, people were having tons of laughs while doing it (I’m considering dropping down 10 alpha myself for another round, just so this time you can send even more people to our chat crying and embarrassing themselves).

It was 37, some of us on TC also think it was some of the most remedial play we’ve seen in a while, not to mention how dumb people were for completely ignoring the oil. In fact, two of us went to purposely watch it after a lot of our warnings fell on deaf ears; we watched it to see it fail hard.

This was the brainchild of our weekend RP Guild who don’t generally have the best of ideas, this would also includes 20 pieces of siege inc 6 flame rams at RQ because apparently it’s the most hilarious thing in the world. Frankly, if I were FA or YB, I’d leave that kitten there and teach people a lesson about siege caps.

It’s not so much that ‘we’ don’t know what to do with golems as certain folks don’t know what to do with them, or how to use them, and that they’re currently used more as a ‘bit of fun’ rather than a strategic tool. They deserved to be destroyed in the manner they were.

Yeah…. someone even piped up in /team that “well 3 survived!”, like any part of that assault was a good thing. I’m amazed they didn’t get completely rolled over long before, they were sat in RQ for the longest time because certain people were being precious about moving them which caused half the map to have to turn up any time RQ was under attack. A lot of really stupid stuff happening tonight on EB.

You deserved every one of those kills, Golem armor does not protect the stupid.

The 40 golem rush sounds insane, why didn’t anyone take out the oil? The golems were completely unsupported?

FA was playing great in TCBL during the day, although the use of stealthed thieves for point denial is pretty inane. I thought FA outplayed us most of the day, but our late night NA crew is pretty experienced and did a good job cleaning the map.

This looks like a good week, just need to get Yak’s a few more PvP guilds.

But come on, the game is old enough for most of you to figure out simple WvW mechanics and why it seems like a 2v1 in some situations..

No, it was quite 41. We were wondering for a while who is constantly stealing them, but then someone threw in a new batch of blueprints for good laughs and it presumably stopped being an issue. Well, I guess – enjoy them, but next time feel free to ask, I will personally give you few if you’re so desperate, there’s really no need to result to thievery, especially from someone who likes to title themselves a “commander”.

Post golemgate :p, the last 2 hours or so in EB have actually been productive. I was watching FA and YB’s back and forth at SM and Durios, then I was at QL trying to hold on to that for an hour or so.

Good defense from FA once your numbers picked up a little. We were close to getting Langor, but not quite close enough once YB clinched Bravost. Not quite organised enough.

Also some nice co-ordination and teamwork from TC folks this early morning.

The wipefest on the ramp to QL was entertaining, and I hope FA folks enjoyed wiping most of TC there on their second attempt to retake their property. We had fun. I hope you did

Utterly epic epic night in FABL tonight, not only did we as 2 thieves stop any YB leaving their zone area for 20 minutes whilst we were hanging around the tower, but we then decided to stop for a chat with 2 more thieves before proceeding to roll over to BB which was being heavily sieged by YB, don’t worry FA, we killed all the YB… oh right, we also killed you and cleared the place out for anyone else to arrive before stealing it… 4 of us. Epic.

Well, it would have been epic except you mentioned thieves. Which makes it pretty par for course instead. :P

I think I might have picked Cog out of the crowd tonight finally… Not sure though, so many charr guardians sporting hammers and greatswords that in the chaos of the umber/durios war going on before our YB numbers dropped to kitten again (/sadface) that I didn’t really get to tab through them all to spot the warrior.

Ah well. Fun times tonight. Towards the end a lone guildmate and I made a suicide charge to take the southern blue supply camp in EB (spacing out on the name of it, time for bed) and ninja’d it away from the 2 defenders there, dropping 3 ballistas and a treb they had set up. Almost made it back to Ogre keep racing through the blue army and being chased by 7-8 PRO before they finally dropped me within 1500m of the door to safety. Way fun for the two of us. Cheers!

p.s. Based on last week, TC is the stronger server between FA and TC. Poor strategy attacking the weaker of the 2 servers. Just ensuring they win in the long run. The benefit of a 3-way fight is supposed to be that the stronger server gets put in check by 2 enemy. Yak either thinks FA is stronger or just doesn’t want to go for 1st place? Baffles me.

Anyway why shouldn’t YB help TC win? The rankings are winner-neutral. YB gains points as long as either FA or TC are close to them in points (whether ahead or behind). Meanwhile it doesn’t help TC any to go after YB because they have to beat YB by orders of magnitude to just not lose points. For their #1st place finish last week they won a whopping negative 14 points, while FA won negative 12 points for #2nd, and YB won 24 points for 3rd.
