I like the vids. I don’t get how you get along without Shadowstep though. How do you prevent getting blow’d up by B-Venom or KD+hundud burrds out of nowhere? Especially when fighting outnumbered the roots, knockdowns are just all over the place. Evade I know but eventually I always need a stun break. Also for catching d/d ele or warrior runners.

If there’s several enemies and I’m alone, the odds are usually very, very stacked. I’ve found that if they predict me at all, 1 stunbreak won’t save me. In these kinds of fubar scenarios, I prefer to chance it and bring other stuff.

Makes sense. I was thinking that looking at the utilities you choose. Sort of a stand your ground sepc where you either win or die trying. I personally go with Shadowstep and SR, probably not as effective per fight but allows me to mess with bigger zergs which really is pointless but I find it fun.

I love watching these. Keep ‘em coming! The Quip sound effects are a nice touch… so friggin’ obnoxious.

Not to mention that opponents who allow conditions to grow and prosper freely on them do not even fall into “warm up” category. It is more like gathering omnomberries. Or PvE at most.

After I watched for 5 minutes I didn’t know where I was anymore. That pistol sound is mind boggling. Legendary? Definitely. Ultimate troll weapon, right up there with getting killed by unicorns and rainbows I suppose.

Heh, that’s because almost everyone IS a complete tool. They’re made of 100% social networking/friends/gear/looks.

You see, WvW is a game of numbers and tactics at scale without any qualification for participants. Two consequences of this would be:
1. There’s no way to predict personal pvp skill of random encounter. To the contrary, you may rely on it being mediocre most of the time.

Part of WvW is picking off reinforcements as they try to make it to the zerg, picking off those who are on supply runs, and those who are taking out your servers yaks. Just because someone doesn’t follow a zerg or get into a group does not mean they are not helping out the server with the battle. If he takes out even 4-5 people on their way to join the other battles that is more than a lot of people who are just rolling with the zerg.

Yeah, that’s perfectly fine, my point wasn’t about validity of ninja tactic. It was about depicting it as personal achievement in PvP.

For the zillionth time, repeating the 3 purposes of a Yippie Kye Yay vid:
1) Entertainment
2) Humor/laughter
3) Showing ways to effectively PvP (in this case, it means KILLING PLAYERS, not killing npcs or taking imaginary objective points)

Don’t knock it till you try it, as they say. Don’t confuse disliking ME with disliking my videos. Some ppl ignore the chaos and action in my videos and only try to point out how good/bad the opponents are, or how supposedly-OP my build’s stealth is. I’d say these 3 purposes are lost on them, and that’s a pity.

I don’t know where you see the ‘bragging’ part. If I was bragging about something, I’d make certain that you’d know it. I’m not very subtle when I do brag.

I’m sure I have an ego (doesn’t everyone?), but that’s not the reason I’ve agreed to continue to make/upload vids. If I didn’t get so many requests for more vids after like the 5th vid, I probably wouldn’t have continued playing until the Feb update.

That’s fairly common with people who play stealth classes since the reason they are playing a stealth class to begin with is to avoid dying. However, you really need to bring some video footage if you are going to make that charge against an individual.

this is true, stealth is great for beginners, you can even see it in the video (not saying the OP is a beginner) but it allows you time to reposition yourself/time to think since you can’t be targetted, and since you are using ranged melee have to close the gap even though you’re moving faster than them. The can’t use a gap closer since you’re stealthed.

When you stealth people are just standing there waiting for you to appear and due to the lovely nature of culling you would normally get in a few cheap shots before even being targetable.

I don’t know how many times I have to repeat this for others, frankly I’m beginning to think you don’t believe me enough to even try to change yourselves.

And it’s not experience that lets you just read someone else’s patterns from partial clues/observations, that’s something you CANNOT just learn with time. That is all on you, your natural talent and quick thinking and your ability to have what I call ‘battle calm’.

You know full well of the rendering issues inherent to stealth, and how they haven’t fixed it in wvw yet, yet all the videos I see are in wvw.. (I may be wrong, I haven’t watched your whole series)

You know full well that along with that advantage, retargetting you takes additional time, time you don’t have to waste on most classes, and you capitalize on that with the thief elite. (as do many)..need I even mention the loss/redirection of local fauna and npc aggro?

If you misplace your Zatoichi judgement on other stealth classes, you have a stealth counter to fall back on and reset the encounter

CnD doesn’t even require you to leave your current target to trigger (at least from what I can see)

Healing while stealthed, condition removal while stealthed….pls hug it more

Your playing a behind the curve build, whether you wanna admit it or not….Do your server a favor and scout enemy zerg positions or something useful, and stop trying to showboat something that like 500 other thieves can’t do in their sleep

I greatly encourage everyone to check out the thief forum version of this thread. It’s very illuminating.

It’s obvious that you have some skill, even though you are fighting REALLY bad people. But your attitude and messages used in the video just make me scoff and move on.

No no, you’ve got this all wrong… if Slick goes down, it’s only because he was ‘zerged’ and zerging is bad. Therefore by alt-f4ing he’s discouraging the behaviour and changing wvw for the betterment of all. There is no ego in this. It’s pure selflessness.

Hi Slic, Love the vids – I’ve been watching them for quite some time actually.

The vids show how great GW2 really is – its easy to play but difficult to master. This means there is room for skill and strategy.

They show a really important problem that the GW community has. The fact that a LOT of players are terrible. MOST players are terrible in my experience. The vids highlight the difference between good and bad – which is why i think there is so much hate against it. It’s easier to spew venom than it is to look in a mirror and take responsibility yourself. (I myself am always trying to learn more and get better)

The sad think is, the “bad” players are missing out on a great game. (I have the feeling that many people who have grown “bored” of GW fall into this category.) Most don’t even seem aware of the depth of the PVP aspects of this game.

I wish people should just roll a few new characters and take them out in sPVP and learn to play a few builds. The poeple I see in sPVP are definitely better than average. It’s a great place to learn and improve (with the right attitude). Go LEARN about the mechanics in the game (stealth, stability, stuns, conditions, stun breakers, condition removal, etc). Then learn about counters, etc.

I think doing this would give people an appreciate for when they see PVP done WELL.
It seems many people in this thread don’t fully appreciate what they are watching in these videos. Go watch vid #5 (@ ~6-8min part), for example. How many fireballs or arrows are dodged by just side-stepping (not even evading). Sometimes 3-4 in a row. Most people would simply tank all that damage. How many bursts were avoided with a dodge at the right time during these vids. These are skills that take experience to learn. This is skill, it is not an OP build/stealth mechanic abuse, or anything else.

I have played this build in sPVP. It is really fun, and it does take finesse – that is sure. I encourage anyone to try it, it is far from button mashing build.

BTW: I find it funny how Efface makes fun of you for an inferior build (“behind the curve”), and then says you’re relying on the strengths of your build, and anyone could play it (“monitor turned off”?). Contradict much? He can’t have it both ways.

Thief videos can sometimes be entertaining it’s just your attitude that rubs people the wrong way.
