Audio Problems with all storyline conversations.
I have also been having this problem, starting yesterday.
Same here. Missing random (seemingly) parts of storyline voices.
Same Issue. Seems like someone accidentally removed the linking on a lot of the dialogue to the sound files and lip sync files. This dialogue was working before the patch.
Sorry, Human Storyline for me.
I’ve got this same issue. It seems to be intermittent with no particular trigger. Race and profession seem to be irrelevant.
This started happening to me during the Priory’s study the Hylek personal quest line.
Same problem here as well.
Also having this problem.
Been having this problem specifically since the last patch or the one before it (maybe Thursday?). Did human personal story, everything worked fine, then patch that broke it, other character doing the exact same personal story – now no audio for certain characters.
Same here, human, lvl 24, it happens since fairly recently.
Same problem here as well – saw it maybe 2 days now – came here to see if others were having the same problem.
I had the missing voiced dialogue in:
Bramble Walls
Secrets in the Earth
Trouble at the Roots
Do not know exactly when I played these episodes, but could indeed well be after the September 14 patch.
Same prob with my lvl 44 Norn mesmer’s personal storyline where I have to defeat this charr char Ajax and the next one where I have to find a woonded grawl shaman
I can confirm that this issue is occurring to me as well. In fact, I can even reproduce it multiple times.
I rolled a brand new Charr Mesmer, Ash Legion. I’m level 3 and on the story step “The Tribune’s Call”. When I watched the cutscenes, certain lines of dialogue have no accompanying audio but the character will still make gestures.
When I exit the game in the instance of my story step, it will reset it the next time I log back in and I’d have to start over. When I do start over, the exact same lines of dialogue are missing their audio every time.
Just putting in my 2 cents and bumping this topic at the same time.
I have this happen on all my characters, on all storyline conversations, and a lot of open world conversations.
Someone earlier mentioned a scout that isn’t talking, I’ve noticed the exact same scout not talking, either, so I think we can safely assume it’s not a local client issue.
Yep yep. Just had this in the first charr personal story quest (ash legion, all cutscenes up to the very end where you get the first reward are affected, but not all audio is missing), and the first quest of the norn story line where you have passed out after a moot and can’t remember anything of what happened. I haven’t been able to see if other missions have been affected, but sure looks like it…
Can we get an official response or something? There are like 10 different threads of people complaining about it in this forum alone.
I stopped doing my personal stories because of this and it’s kind of a bummer.
Same problem here, it’s really killing the cutscenes for me. I just played the human circus quest and Logan’s best line ‘Stick around you clone’ was just dead silence
This seems to be affecting all races, I’ve been through sylvari, human, norn and charr in the last few days and every cutscene had at least a couple of unvoiced lines.
Similar issue for me since the last patch: About 1/4 of NPC dialog is missing, no mouth movement, all cut-scenes (multiple classes/characters/plot points/scout maps). My character always has audio when she/he speaks.
I don’t know if this is related, I didn’t notice until the audio cut out, but the audio when it does play lags behind the mouth movement for all NPCs — but this may be something that was present before and I didn’t notice. It’s not an obnoxious period of delay, but it seems noteworthy.
In the main quest line when i talk to people there is no sound.
Once i click next the sound starts working again. Please help.
I think its only with my character, i am a norn guardian level 11.
When i play my norn mechanic its fine.
While doing my norn personal story I’ve also been missing a ton of dialogue. Seems like it’s right on the start of a conversation dialogue or on an NPC switch in the dialogue. I read quickly and skip, not sure if the skip helps trigger the talking but I seem to start hearing speech after I skip 1-2 times.
Having this issue on both story quests and Scouts. My character’s audio dialogue often works, but Npcs/Other characters or sometimes only every other slide a Npc talks.
For example, if I talk to Warden Arondele in the Sylvari starter zone, it’ll be silent the first bit of Dialogue (Welcome to Astorea) and then the audio will cut in on the second half and continue with the rest of the dialogue.
While I have also been having this issue, I have also noticed a couple times that someone DID speak, but what they said, was not what the TEXT said. Yesterday in my Charr thief story, one line was completely different, had nothing to do with the story and wasn’t even in the right voice! I was so shocked I looked for a way to stop the conversation so I could restart it and record it. Unfortunately you don’t get that choice.

I am experiencing this issue on both my Elementalist and Mesmer story quests. At first I thought it was me but it never happened before the September 14 patch. Because of this annoying problem I have stopped doing my story quests since listening to the dialogue is part of the enjoyment I have with the story quests.
Also getting this problem.
Fix please, GW2 team! It was working fine before. :<
This issue happened with the September 14 patch update and thus far has not been fixed since I ma having this problem a lot. I have stopped doing my story quests because of this bug since for me listening to the characters interacting is part of the enjoyment.
Exact the same issue here.
Never happened before the September 14 update.
same thing’s been happening to me since the last update, glad to see I’m not alone.
at first I thought it was just one npc’s problem, but as I went forward with my personal story it kept happening. Hasn’t ruined my experience (having too much fun for that to happen), but it does break the flow of the conversations.
+1
and 13 more…
Any official word on this? I’m on the level 24 Norn story instance, and I’ve recently encountered numerous cases of missing voiceovers with Eir and other NPCs. Filed a couple of bug reports already, but apparently the problem is more prevalent than just a handful of lines.
I am having this problem as well. And it isn’t character-based; I had the same problem on a few characters. It almost seems like the sound file isn’t triggering for certain parts of conversations.
It wasn’t only for the cinematic conversations, either. Some of the npc chat boxes that popped up didn’t have accompanying sound. (I knew they were supposed to because my friend was playing with me and he heard it.)
I didn’t have this problem at all at launch, just the last couple of days, since Friday.
Edited to add: it is only the NPC sound that does not play. My own character’s lines always play.

[edit, merged threads] Thanks for letting us know about this, and a special thank you to those of you who listed the exact story step where you’re seeing the issue! If you’re seeing missing VO, please continue to post here.

I’ve noticed that at the point of the sylvari story I’m in, I’m missing part of the voice-overs. During “Secrets in the earth” I’ve noticed that 2-3 lines of Iowerth’s voice-over is missing, and one line of the Avatar of the Tree’s voice-over
Character Name: Stalwart Frost
My creation choices:
Guardian
Fanatic’s Pauldrons
The Green knight
“Where life goes so should you”
Cycle of Dawn
Charm
My story
Awakening
Mockery of Death
Loved and Lost
A good work spoiled
Weakness of the heart
The knights duel
Where life goes
An unknown soul
A different dream
Snuffing out Embers
A Splinter in the flesh
Sharpened thorns
Secrets in the earth
Its not “only happening for certain cinematics”. This is occurring on and off for just about every personal story mission’s cinematic since the last update. It even occurred during the Citadel of Flame cinematics where Rytlock would speak but Logan would not.
haha too late to report exact places.
i have missing VO in nearly every cut scene since lvl 50 or 60 personal story.
“Undead Infestation” ending for Char, when you choose one of the three organizations, has some missing voice dialog for me XP
Both my husband and I are seeing this now. He is a human and doing the 30ish story quests, hitting next sometimes fixes it but it happens for every cut scene now. My lvl 30ish asura also has this problem, as does my lvl 80 human.

I can confirm this having done CoF Yesterday (A video I am uploading would show it but due to audio lag during encoding, it probably won’t be obvious with all audio lagging behind >_< ) and it’s happening at least once for every personal story mission I’ve done since the last patch.
Yep. Me too. First line of dialogue from every NPC in every cutscene. If the NPC is the first speaker. If my character says something first, everything’s fine.
This is not a new bug IIRC. It happened during one of the BWEs as well.

I’ve ran into this bug last night. Norn storyline, Dredging Up the Past and whatever mission was right before it. Audio seems to skip every other line, more or less. Also had more general audio issues in Dredging Up the Past during the fight itself — ambient audio went in and out, music disappeared. Everything seems fine in general exploration mode, however.
“Is it uplevel ranger season yet?”
Same here in the Norn storyline, the late level 20/eary level 30 missions. I’ve noticed my character never skips their voice over, but other characters do, and it affects the first line they speak more than others. When the line skips I don’t see the animation of the mouth moving either.
I have noticed this too. The NPC shows up on screen and while the dialog text will appear on screen the voice over does not always play.
Hi I have missing speech in my story mode and I thought I could not do it and maybe explore instead, How wrong was I….
Metrica Province at the start of the area the scout “Technician Penn [Scout]” does not speak…now I need to read about this new area. I tried to leave and reenter the area and restarting gw2 but still no speech.
There is also a lot of missing voice over in the charr ash legion story line (almost in every step).
I am human, I never joined the circus, am a commoner. I’ve had some missing lines in nearly every single step of the story line. I’ve just rescued the hospital and I am searching for a boy in a red shirt atm. Boris the Beast missed some lines in his cutscene.
Anet: Do you prefer bug reports or forum posts? I can continue to post here, but it’s easier to use the bug reporting system since it takes less time between experiencing and reporting that way.
I first had missing audio on a second character (Norn) and then also in the quest Marching Orders (in Orr) with my Human character.
only happening on my sylvari ranger, but it’s the first line of EVERY conversation if the one talking first is not me. also, Caithe, Trahearne and pale tree spirit on their very fisrt line are silent for every quest so far no matter when they start talking.
Encountered this issue with Peacekeeper Leff right after creating a character and killing the monster.
