Yep, I sent in reply to be honest. I’m not angry but I’m really disappointed.
“This is really disappointing to be honest, I’m broke in game now and would have to spend another 3 days farming just to be able to buy something of decent value again. The customer’s who bought this game and love it, don’t get me wrong, I love this game have to suffer from something that should not have happened. This is something that should be resolved, something that is advertised to be one thing and turns out to be something 10 times worse and MUCH less value and we have to eat it.
It really killed my mood in the game, at least for the time being and totally killed my excitement at having something to look forward to when I hit 80 today."

I got fooled into this too… I dont even like (read, strongly dislike!) the look of gladiator armor… this totally spoiled my day yesterday… sucks to see so many other people got fooled as well… Anet should do something about this, but I highly doubt they will

I couldn’t help you as I’m a no body, but misleading information like that in real life is considered a crime, and you could be fined, and go to court for things like this. In the game however, it’s not quite the same, but it would be nice to know some sort of justice is felt when you are being ripped off by such things, I think.

It says “Box of…” it never says “Box with set of …”, “Set of …” or “Box of complete …”.Quick googling reveals that the boxes are mass-craft options which’s recipes are obtained via the Mystic Forge. The caveat emptor argument is completely baseless unless you are arguing that ArenaNet is not to be trusted; they have coded the box in a way that markets it as a full set of “… Draconic Armor” where the name Draconic signifies the crafted exotic armor, with the color used for exotics as additional information pointing towards it being an exotic.

The box name is “Box of Berserker’s Draconic Armor” Double-Click to unpack a full set of level 80 armor.
It’s an exotic box with Berserker’s Gladiator “rare” armor set in it. It’s not Berserker’s Draconic armor pieces that exist too. This is clearly misleading. There’s other “boxes” or “satchels” that exist and when you open them you get the same name on the Boxes and on the pieces as well as the same “rarity”.
Don’t say the buyers are downright stupid. Not everyone here are on the forums or google every item before buying them. It is clearly misleading. When there is an exotic set with the name Berserker’s Draconic and an exotic box that states unpack a full set of… with the name Berserker’s Draconic on it. I should not get a “rare” Berserker’s Gladiator set.

It’s in the game bugs cause it’s a bug. Plain and simple. It’s like buying something that says that is a one-hand sword but then turns out to be a bow! Clear enough? No, players shouldn’t check online every thing that they buy on TP cause you know, there’s no point in checking something that says exactly what it’s supposed to be. Do you check online every time that you buy a glob of Ectoplasm?

I bought a crate of Berserker’s Draconic Armor, too (for 12g, which seemed decent, about as much as you’d pay for a whole set), and received a wonderful set of yellow items, which I was able to sell for 3ish g, so I made a loss of 9g.
9g – at the moment – get you 3300 gems. 3300 gems can be bought for more than 35€, just to put that into perspective.
I don’t want any money, I don’t want the armor set, I just want my 9g back. It takes a lot of time to farm gold in this game, and losing 9g hurts a lot, especially if it is because of a bug (the box is labeled as “Berserker’s Draconic Armor”, but that is not what’s in there).
(oh, and I opened a support ticket and did not even get any sort of response)

I’d much rather they refund everyone who bought this the same amount of gold they spent.
I’m sure some people, myself included, sold the yellow pieces back to salvage some gold and started farming for the individual parts again.

I’ve fallen prey to the same thing—I even did research online through the sites that I’ve found helpful that just say it contains a full set of level 80 armor.. The name would pertain to the gear that should be inside of the box.. But alas that is not the case. I have no idea how it was crafted cause I didn’t care about that—I just cared about the fact it was a box meant to contain this one set. I saw nothing on any wiki, head, or database website currently saying it was bugged to hell and back. So now down multiple hours of farming gold from my days of being 80.
Yet according to most people that pass this topic by. We are whiners, complainers, general idiots. Whatever you wish to call us. Just sit back in your chair, enjoy your ice cream cake with a smile on your face as you proceed to troll people for their “stupidity” as everyone seems to think this is. Cause if someone can find me something that is over 24 hours old that shows this bug.. NOT on this forum. Please let me know.
My lesson is learned that I shouldn’t play a game, purchase it before hand, or even bother testing it if the game designers don’t want to address and issue as serious as this compared to a graphical issue. I mean really? Skins are more important than multiple people getting screwed over cause their box system is working “as intended” or atleast that’s what any other game company will tell you when they screw up.
So please ArenaNet, show me that I’m wrong, cause I’ve enjoyed being a Guild Wars player even though I played other games… now that this long awaited game has come out and we’ve been duped on an item name giving us crap. Please prove me wrong and make me another loyal customer.. Other wise I don’t think I will continue to play. I don’t care about getting my ‘deserved’ gear that everyone seems to think EVERYONE wants, I’d be happy just receiving my gold back so I can continue to farm up more and buy the pieces of the gear I want… I was a loyal Guild Wars junkie, now turning my head away from it as I look forward to my lesser love of World of Warcraft. Please fix this issue as soon as possible.

Yeah, that makes sense too. I suppose it can go both ways though. Very situational/variable I guess, like perhaps one seller actually opened the box of exotic berserker draconic armor and saw that it actually spat out yellow armor, then decided to craft more of those boxes and sell them at exotic level prices, despite knowing the contents. Hard to prove, but its not like its impossible.

A support team that claims to have no tools to do their job. GREAT JOB ANET. Seriously. You cannot refund us? There are tones of ways to do it actually. Give the amount of gold we lost in gems (which i am sure you can do), replace the incorrect armor pieces that are still in my freaking inventory just in case with the correct ones, grant us with Deluxe Edition for free (~5g with current prices, we’ll still be at a loss but well…). Some of those sound a bit funny but your response was actually way worse.
First time i see a serious company just ignoring issues that were the result of their mistakes.

Fine, they don’t have the tools to reimburse. But they do have the tools to determine who bought said item, they have the ability to generate the right item and they have the ability to mail items. They also have the ability to remove or edit such a misleading item from the game.
So, mail us the right armor! It’s not like we would be able to profit from this, the armor we got is worthless once soulbound.

Yes, giving gems would be enough as long as it was the same value in gold that we lost. They can take the gladiator gear from my char as well. I just don’t feel like playing to get back where I was, in 2-3 weeks.

Either way, any kind of compensation would be nice. It’s still off-putting to me that GMs/Admins are quick to respond to lesser, more trivial issues on these forums.

Now I’m pretty mad. I spent 7g 50s on this box and got complete garbage in return, all 6 pieces of the Rare Gladiator’s Gear is worth a whopping 1g 50s, a whole 6g less than what I bought the box for, this is messed up.
I’m pretty laid back but this affects more than 1 person and we are all told they can do absolutely nothing.

Unfortunitely that is unexceptable, not only was my time wasted. I feel totally cheated by the system.
With their answer about not able to refund anything (ya.. at this time…)
basically put me into a state of distrust for the game and the TC.
Let me just say this, playing a game where I am constantly worried that this or that might also be bugged or another issue might come up and waste my time and money again, sucks big time.
Well, looks like my frequency of playing this game has dropped big time.
I have more to say, a lot more. But I think everyone here understands the situation and really are just waiting and I would say boldly demanding some solid solutions….

Yesterday I did the same thing, I bought a box of berserker draconic armor. As with the rest of you it came out rare gladiators and I was abit surprised and confused. I submitted my ticket and came to read this thread and I’m disappointed with the ST responses, However;
I have to say, there are some of you posting on here that are downright unbelievable. I am not a “diehard arenanet fanboy” but even I can see that a company comprised of 270 members, would be overwhelmed by problems and bugs that wouldn’t faze a larger company and it’s hardly their fault. Especially that hacked accounts business, consider for a moment how much work it takes to filter through requests and decide whether a hacked account ticket is genuine, whether there is enough information and then respond to it. On top of event bugs, story bugs, and further balancing.
Saying things like “I am going to quit” “I am going to sell my account”. I’m sorry, that you feel that way honestly, but what makes you think they are going to be able to do anything faster because 10 or 20, or 30 disgruntled players are telling them they are going to leave the game. In reality ArenaNet already have your money, this is not a subscription service, I’m not saying they don’t care about the players because I wholeheartedly believe that they do, but that’s the truth.
Moreover saying the latter, welcome to your accounts instant ban and your eBay fraud problems?
As for me I only paid 6g49s for my box, which I suppose should’ve tipped me off that something was wrong when the individual pieces were 2-3g/ea. However, it’s not gamebreaking for a player. Yes it sucks, everyone can see that it sucks. Infact it sucks so much that some people don’t even believe it could happen. But get yourself in gear, if you like the game and you actually want to play go do the easier dungeon explorables ;-) and make bank. 6-12g in the grand scheme of things is not a lot. It’s going to set you back a few days sure but I would hope im playing this game for years to come just like the original.
For those who don’t understand why the bug occurs, it seems to me that it is likely that the box is created and the item code attached to the items the box releases is incorrect. Which I would imagine is a fairly easy thing to fix and a fairly easy mistake to make. Databasing your items and you fatfinger a 3 instead of a 2 or whatever.
That over and done with. I would also like to express my further disappointment at the ST responses given. I know there is some kind of system in place to grant items to players as a missing “Tome Of Influence” has been replaced to someone I know within the game. I would like to see a forum moderator response to the thread or at least have the issue stickied to the top.
Both of these things are probably NOT going to happen if people continue to act how they are acting. You don’t see the thread with story line bugs filled with “I’m leaving and selling my account” do you?

Actually, it can be quite game breaking for a player since the issue has gone from fault to trust. This bug highlights their unwillingness to take responsibility, and I argue not from the perspective that they are unwilling to grant the actual item a customer bought before this bug was generally known, it is about this unwillingness in relation to them not removing the option to list this box on the trading post. Hence, even after they are aware of the problem, aware that they will most likely not give anyone the goods that they bought, they are still knowingly allowing players who trust in ArenaNet to become victims of this bug. That is, at least to me, unfathomable.

The Issue I’m having is not simply that I lost hard earned G but also the fact that since this issue is not being addressed by the mods the trust in the TP is up for question. How can you trust your going to get what the game says you are. right now I’m weary of buying any big items from TP certainly I’m getting my armor and weapons from guild not TP untill this issue is addressed fully

Something that has niggled at me since TP began is that there is no way to preview what your buying either.

I’d definitely cut Anet some slack on this… yeah, they already got their plate full. There are more serious game breaking bugs (like the Mystic Forge being broken… not going to drop that one)
But then again, making an expert guess on the feasibility of fixing the problem (and I think we can all agree it is quite feasible) and committing the resources needed to do it at a future time is a far better response than what has been given so far.
This is turning to be about customer service… and as someone mentioned above, trust.

Just want to add my name to the list of affected. Think I bought the box on tuesday, haven’t played much since. I’m shocked that they haven’t at least fixed the source of the problem yet. If you don’t want to help the poor saps that got scammed, at least prevent others from falling victim.

They stop all sorts of things from happening with a snap of their fingers but they can’t just put this item on hold or rename thekittenthing? Really upsetting that they can’t do that much. It’s one thing to reimburse people, its another to bug fix the item so this does not CONTINUE to happen, yet not a single word from any staff over this matter which has made me lose respect for Anet whom I used to regard very highly.
Not only have I played much less since the incident, I’ve already started talking to friends who were on the fence about getting it, not to.

Update: day 3 since my incident. my motivation to log back to play has not come back. Friends asking me to do this and that or run some dungeons with them. Last week, i would give them a hell ya! cant wait til i get home from work so we can do events, dungeons etc etc. Now i just tell them a “maybe” and thats a big “maybe”…
as i have mentioned before, loosing the gold and not getting what i want isnt that of an issue. It’s the lack of response and the lack of action from them that has baffled me.
my trust, my respect, and my hope meter for them is going down by the day and its is going down exponentially.

Unfortunately, this happened to me earlier tonight too; I lost 6g49s. I do hope they do something about it at some point, preferably sooner rather than later. :/
