Thank you! It’s been so frustrating trying to play with bounces and boons being wasted on my clones or illusions I’d just stopped altogether. I’m so glad you are finally having a look at the issue.
I will “yaaaaay!” when its fixed, but acknowledgement is a start.

Well, you see, my expectations are not very high anymore..
I was really happy to see someone communicating and we did not have to wait months for it. ^^
Now we know they are aware of it and we will see what results will come out of this… maybe they will fix it and then they will get yaaaaaaay-ed by all affected players.

I deeply hope they won’t do that.
And I really, really hope they will fix (all) the mesmer’s issues anytime soon. I have to believe this, otherwise I am not sure what to do anymore.
Finally. I’ll hold my breath until the end of the month…

I’m exceptical in how they are going to solve it. I hope they give us back the player priority logic inside the bounce area (above all the player that use the skill), but they can not allow bounce turrets and non agressive creatures but maintaining the actual logic… Perhaps it’s a good moment to keep an eye on the clone’s target from Deceptive Evasion, but probably they’ll do nothing.
We don’t have ETA , is time to wait and see the result when they release the fix.

They should just get rid of that stupid @s$ bouncing mechanism…It has been broken on the Necro forever…
The kitten bounces hits things like ambient mobs and neutrals (yellow)…The fact that the “return” bounce is 600 range and the original is 900 is f’n stupid too.
Any slight bump in terrain makes the bounce end early too. There are other times where you can be on perfectly flat terrain and use F4 or D4 and the kitten thing just disappears…not even hitting the intended target.
Another thing that is irratiting is how the f’n bounce goes to my pet…vvtf? It is a g’kitten jagged horror…WHY would I want that to get the regen boon?!
Aggravating to say the least.

Unfortunately that team has been sacked and been replaced with an intern.
The intern quit to go work for Blizzard, so ArenaNet gave the bug to one of their graphic artists. He spent 20 hours drawing CG bugs bouncing on top of stakitten .
Unfortunately he overspent the budget allocated to fixing all mesmer issues for Q2 and Q3 2013, so the lead developer has retcon’ed this bug. It’s now “as designed”.

That patch also made stealth players bounceable targets. Was that intentional?

Thank you Jeremiah for your courtesy. I play a mesmer and have about given up on anyone at Anet to even respond or acknowledge there is a problem, let alone they are working on a fix.
You have at least opened the door of hope for me.
And despair is most delicious when slamming that door shut after you’ve shown it

Hi Jeremiah,
Please refer to the following screenshots. These highlight the issues with illusionary elasticity (bounce skills have one additional bounce) which may assist with investigation.
You can see in the first screenshot (http://imgur.com/fGZnyQY,f5TZiag#0) the attack is hitting the golem, bouncing to me, then half bouncing to the third golem. It is stopping half way with the ‘Out of range’ error. The golem is never hit and does not reach aggro point.
In the second (http://imgur.com/fGZnyQY,f5TZiag#1), The attack hits the first golem, then bounces to the second golem as it is closer to me? It then starts moving to the third golem, then stops half way with an error. The third bounce, which should exist via the trait line, never occurs.
I can observe the following issues testing in the mists:
- The bounce attacks hit the closest target, regardless of who they are. This results in clones receiving boons, effectively reducing the value of the skill.
- Following the first point, the bounce commonly hits non-aggro’d mobs, including neutral. This means you are constantly aggro’ng mobs by accident and have no control over this.
- The overall skill Winds of Chaos (used for testing for ease of access) has a range of 1200 yet this applies to the bounces. This means if you are 700 away from your opponent, you will only get half the effect. This also affects illusionary elasticity, making the trait far less useful. I believe this to be a bug as it does not follow expected behavior of the tooltips and other skills.
- Illusionary elasticity does not affect staff clones, only the user. This also would appear to be a bug as the trait does not specify the caster only, and other traits affect clones.
Just one other note – the speed of this projectile is far too slow, making it less effective than other mesmer ranged weapons. Not a bug, just stating something worth noting, as this does have impact on the way the weapon works.

That uncontrollable bounce to odd non-aggroed npc is a problem all the time. Last night I was in WvWvW with some guild mates and we were doing skirmishes all over the place, then all of a sudden in the middle of some of the skirmishes, moas decided to join in the fray. Our group leader was kind enough to mention I had invited some unexpected guests to our party. lol
I took a lot of teasing from that and do wish this bounce issue to be fixed.

Only time will tell….I’ll see how it goes after the patch. Unfortunately, I do not hold out much hope since this bounce issue has been a problem for a longer time than I care to contemplate. I shudder whenever I run around because I have no idea what or who will join me unexpectedly.
I have, however, attempted to account for that while running around opening up the map. I tried to position myself LOS for all but one npc mob and tonight I actually saw it work in my favor. Only problem is I lose my buffs and my conditions application is horrible. I can not depend on anything working correctly so I just ignore it. But it feels as though I am under a handicap whenever I play my Mesmer.
I have gotten better managing my Mesmer combat with my GS…love the GS. Not quite as comfortable with the staff which, in my opinion, seems to be better suited to a group than solo.
I have switched out my scepter for a sword and am happy with that change, keeping my focus for the darned speed that I need all the time. I feel like I am running in quick sand all the time. I do wish we could obtain a sigil only for speed that we could add to our gear/jewelery/weaponry. It is so frustrating to have to “fight” for my speed on my Mesmer when all my other character seem to have endless speed all the time effortlessly.
When trying out my mesmer today to see if the patch fixed the cancel-autoattack-after-dodge bug, I noticed my staff bounces went to me rather than my dodge-created illusions. Exception seemed to be when they were significantly closer to the mob than I was, but that might’ve been me being out of range of the return bounce to begin with. Anyone with more time that can confirm my observations?

As of 25th June patch, both bouncing and izerker issue has been fixed. I’m really surprised, but good job. Now please make a backup of this current izerker code in case of future bugs.
Except it still bounces to critters instead of yourself preferably.
With the exception that bounces still target non-aggroed enemies…this seems to be better. Thank you.

That said, I agree with you. The lack of control any character with a bounce mechanic has, particularly those for whom it’s their auto attack, is a cause for concern.

I would hazard a guess that this falls in with the above reports of bouncing to neutral NPCs, of which I’m pretty sure the hologram projectors are one.

And I wondered why I got so few damage and buffs lately … guess that ’s what it was.
Funny that this is been looked into – while concetrating to balance the mesmer to more clone gameplay with this patch. Errrrr?

I fired an air auto attack at a Jade Maw tentacle (on the left side). It bounced outward towards the rocks.
I think the mobs that despawned (after the first 2 tentacles were down) are still there, and the lightning was bouncing to them, despite being invisible.
I love my mesmer…but I am frustrated at the idiotic way her talents/skills fire off. Definitely off-target.
I have had mine bounce of walls, trees, mosquitoes, bushes, you name it, anything but what I targeted or my target’s adds.
This is a major problem. I have no idea what I am running into when I fight anything with my mesmer. A grab bag of who knows what.
I’m still having bounces from WoC aggro yellow neutrals, or occasionally just firing off in some random direction (white critter perhaps). I’ve logged a bug report as well as mentioning it here. The bounce logic is better, but I don’t think yellow neutrals are supposed to be valid targets…
So, a developer said a lot of months ago (almost a year), that they were aware of the clone bouncing problem and that they will solve it. Today, clone bouncing is still happening, making some skills like mirror blade loose half of its potential. Is it very difficult to fix or what happens here?
