List of Mesmer Bugs (Older Thread)
I’m going to take a stab here and guess that we’ll get the release date for the feature patch during the ready-up?
It’s all but certain Powerr knows the current target date, and since it’s his last day you probably don’t want to put him in a position where he would have to stay quiet when he’s not working there anymore.
I’m not sure Anet would care much. NDA is NDA.
Yep. Remember back in the early betas where if you disclosed anything about the game from that period, even after the game’s release, you’d be banned from ANet games for life? At least that’s how I remember it… Could be wrong.

I wonder if thier contracted or full time employees have thier NDAs expire when thier employment ends. And I wonder if a build release date would fall under the language for the NDA. Actually I wonder if an NDA is even legally enforceable after employment ends.

Oh for sure it’s enforceable. The NDA would apply to any information that could potentially impact the company, as long as they wrote it properly. You think someone that worked in the CIA, for example, isn’t held by the same secrecy/NDA agreements once they leave? It’s the same here, just…smaller things.

It most certainly is. When you work with just about any kind of company, and you have access to trade secrets and tools, you are allegedly bound for life to protect the secrecy of said secrets and tools. Even if divulging said secrets might get you a brief boost with a competitor, you probably won’t be there long.
Usually, if a competitor sees you rat out one of your previous employers, they’ll judge you as one day potentially doing the same against them. You’re deemed too high risk.
The safe route, is never to burn any bridges and always respect the documents and agreements you signed upon entering a company.
Always remember, in the corporate world and just about anywhere in life – it’s not what you know; it’s who you know. You never know when disrespecting one company or individual will hurt your chances to gain a job elsewhere.

7. Portal Entre/Exeunt.
- Has no range indicator. Impossible to tell whether it is in range or not.
- Has no “cast time left” indicator for Exeunt. Impossible to tell when it times out.
Solutions:- Introduce 2 icons for portal in the same way that conjured weapons have. One icon will have a timer, another will toggle between active/crossed out/grayed out icon for displaying the range. And this can even be a single icon.
- Semi-solution: disable casting of Exeunt if out of range; enable it back when in range.
7. Fixed feature build
Thats good!!

11. Fixed in feature build
Anyways tomorrow is my last day at ANet so you won’t be seeing this face on the forums any longer. Hopefully this forum visibility helped ease you guys over. Sorry for all the issues we never got around to I did my best to get as many bugs cleared in the last few months as possible.

Good news never travel alone. Good luck at your next job and thanks for keeping communication up! I hope people who take your place would also be willing to jump in this thread (and other similar ones) every now and then to keep players informed.
Still, maybe the hefty sum of money from March daily sales will let ANet hire a QA team (so, nothing personal) for the next “season” which will master both game fixing/polishing and the LS at the same time. Competition’s getting stiff around here, that ugly ol’ cuss with the booth next to mine lowered his prices again I mean… new games are coming out, and to keep their loyal fanbase, they’ll eventually have to deal with current issues. And the current feature patch sounds like a step in the right direction.
Anyways tomorrow is my last day at ANet so you won’t be seeing this face on the forums any longer.

When I’m coming to the end of the development of a large project, one of the things I do is have the team pour over all the open bugs and make a final list of things that really need to get fixed before we disband the team and push it into really low maintenance mode.
Sorry to see you go Powerr.
But seriously, fixing a trait that’s been broken since BETA is not a little treat – it’s what should have been done over a year ago.
And significant bugs that last for 1.5 years is not the earmark of a AAA MMO.

Minor update guys – While Tyler will no longer have an official presence on the forums as an Arenanet developer, he WILL still be working on the game!
LiveSpartan found out this information from yesterday in which Tyler was talking with some people on Ostricheggs’ stream.
LiveSpartan235I just talked with him on the same stream his contract did expire but Anet hired him to be the QA lead at the outsourced affiliated company so the project is still GW2 from what I understand and hes going to be leading this outsourced QA.
So Tyler actually just got a big promotion – from Embed QA to QA lead
He may not be full PvP anymore, but he’ll be lurking and probably still pop into the player streams and tournaments to crack some jokes and share some good fights!
Maybe Tyler will give a full explanation if he’s allowed and feels so inclined, during today’s Ready Up.

To be fair, doesn’t WoW still have a few bugs from release?
Not saying it’s right, just that it’s not uncommon.

This is disturbing news. Bug fixes have already been provided at a less than satisfactory pace yet anet is laying off staff? In fact there are more bugs in the game now then there were a year ago…
Your help is greatly appreciated Tyler; thank you for doing what you could in the time you had left.
- Added #29: Confounding Suggestions and Mesmer Runes.
- Added a link to separate topic for #22 Shared Cooldowns. Apparently traited skills are not the cause of it (or not the only one):
22. Intended. Current trait system swaps to different versions of skills from traits, which can trigger weird recharge issues. Such as that one with glamour CD. I wanna say that bug is fixed in the feature build but it’s a weird repro.
That Illusionary Elasticity change should be interesting, although it does have the potential to make staff clones a tad overpowered. Trident clones are capable of stacking up a ridiculous amount of bleeds very quickly with IE so it’s pretty devastating in a condition build. I’m just hoping that the slower projectile movement of Winds of Chaos + random condition application might somehow keep this in check.
I suppose it does improve Mesmer multi-target/AoE options which is always a plus for the class.
So the only ANet dude that read this thread is gone … Awesome >_> Now the silence returns again.

Can you name 1 significant bug that exists in WoW from release that has such a large impact on gameplay?
A bug that exists today? You can’t change the original 16 slot bag.
Bugs that took a long time to fix? There was this thing called parry haste where bosses instantly killing tanks and this was not fixed until Wrath of the Lich King in 2008. (WoW was released in 2004)
If you think WoW was a bug free game, then you clearly did not play the bleeding edge content, and/or missed their Cataclysm expansion completely.

None to my knowledge, per Tyler’s comments most of the bug fixes are slated for the feature release which is forthcoming.

My bad for writing the 18 March date in the 1st post. Yeap, this one was a “maintenance” patch, not the “feature” patch they’ve been talking about which is due in early/mid April.

Early / mid April … pfff … not even a living story is there atm. My engi needs those 2 sigils so bad, and all those mesmer buffs … ugh I mean bugfixes o.O Gnahh >_> Can’t wait anymore

For those who hasn’t seen this yet:
In the April 2014 Feature Pack, we’re focusing on giving the mesmer a few more options for applied conditions and support/survivability. Clones and phantasms will receive some updates and bug fixes, including the repair of the Illusionary Warden. Along with a few other bug fixes, the mesmer will benefit greatly from the changes to sigils, especially now that they can equip two sigils to their greatsword or staff. We’re also quite excited about a few new mesmer traits that are becoming available, such as Maim the Disillusioned, which has a great name.

We already knew this. Look a page back at all the lovely communication Tyler Chapman gave us in his last couple days at Anet.
So, where’s this guy who said “The only buffs we’ll get will be bugfixes”?

Yes, I know that. I have been following this thread and I even saw about Tyler saying it was his last day there. I just wanted to share that quote for those that hadn’t seen that article yet.
Too bad that Temporal Curtain seems not be going to get an improvement, no stacking swiftness sux :S

lol nicely said, thats how i feel about it. the gm traits seem like they are leftovers appart from the shatter one and the interrupt trait, they seem not well thought through and i think anet really doesnt know how mesmer function, what our problems(no aoe!?!?no raid builds)are.
now they fix bugs and pretend they actively worked on our class. no they havent, the fix is not enough. we need more build diversity and more group builds, aoe skills, ai fixes, etc…
all they have to do is talk to us like the people that play mesmers every day. there is mesmers that only pve and they can tell them their needs, some mesmers love roaming and spvp, they can tell them what they need. and people like me that only wvw raids, zergbusts organized guild groups, gvg’s can tell them what they need.
if u dont understand the class then dont just throw stuff at us without thinking. just double check what does mesmer need. we dont need stronger 1v1 stuff, we need aoe, we need non ai build options, we need more mesmerlike skills and traits, aoe interrupts, aoe cc, confusion like abilities.
i mean just look at gw1 mesmers…we need something back from that.

Yeap. That list reads as
- nerf
cancelled DE nerf- bugfix
- bugfix
- bugfixes
The other thing repeatedly called a mesmer’s buff is the 2 sigils on GS and staff, as if warriors other classes never use 2-handed weapons.
@Lishtenbird: where did that pict came from?
That’s from Dulfy’s summary of the stream.
(no aoe!?!?no raid builds)
I think that the only valuable trait was the distortion on kill, so if you’re talking about front-line zerging, it may fill that hole. But for me, none of these traits will change my build, so yes, fixes – and that’s it.
i mean just look at gw1 mesmers…we need something back from that.
Mesmers will never be what they used to be. They can’t be. Mesmers in gw1 interacted primarily with their target’s energy bar and skill bar, rather than their hp bar. They don’t want to allow that kind of pure shutdown in gw2. (Maybe reasonable, given how much people hate playing against it, but still.)
Also, I’m late on this and clearly should check the forums more regularly, but on the off chance he’s still lurking: Thanks, Powerr, for all you did!
best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base.”
Pre-launch, Colin listed things that make MMOs bad. They are all now in GW2.

Alright, thanks guys.
[Focus] Phantasmal Warden’s “Killing Blows” still do not count towards the Focus Master Achievement. Thus leaving Mesmers without the ability to obtain it.
I didn’t see this in the list or answered on the forum, but I tested it tonight with 25 kills using focus only (So, sorry if it’s not a bug / a duplicate post).

hmm i dont think this will help us at all. u have to kill in order to get distortion and usually u only kill if u are already sorta winning the zergfight. its pure luck if u get to hit 1 of the few rallybots. u would need the distortion before u kill, so u could actually go frontline.
the only sorta usefulone could be the interrupt trait, but im not sure how i will be able to create a build with that.
so yeah…bugfixes and thats it. anet didnt put any effort in the mesmer class.

Ah, good reminding me on that one. You can add that shattered conditions also doesn’t work with IP.

Mesmers clones, phants. can not attack gates in wvw? ex: Edge of the Mists
Not only on WvW, it seems there is a bug that clones won’t attack obstacles (walls, mortars, gates, etc…). Talking about that, last night I just experienced this issue. I was close of a “Dredge Tunnel”, that’s an breakable obstacle, and then I spawned Phantasmal Warden while that object was targeted and guess what happened? The warden ran and attacked a mob nearby, that wasn’t even aggro (yellow mob) and that then started to attack me. >.<
30. Focus Master.
- Phantasmal Warden’s kills do not count towards the Focus Master Achievement, thus leaving Mesmers without the ability to obtain it.
- Corresponds with Phantasmal Disenchanter not counting towards Daily Condition Removal.
- Contradicts with illusions counting against In Tune achievement during Holo fight.
31. Illusionary Persona.
- Confusing Cry with IP will not grant Retaliation if illusions are not summoned.
- Distortion, however, will properly give its effect (also called Distortion) without illusions.
- Shattered conditions do not work.
Yay, we’ve hit 30! And I’m running out of charrs in the 3rd post.
Anyone to confirm underwater mimic?

Attacked and not attacked structures like Union Waypoint barricades. Seems to me the same randomly unreliable state as previously. Illusions switching to a nearby mob right after spawn or later are reliably random as usual.

This isn’t a focus limited problem. None of the phantasms for any weapon count towards that weapon’s mastery achievement.
Anyone to confirm underwater mimic?
This does happen, but I’m hesitant to call it a bug. All underwater versions of skills have significantly lower cast times. Only with mimic does this happen to be a bad thing though.
Tested in HotM, underwater.
Illusionary Whaler skill will display red bar below it only once you’re 1,248 away from target (contrary to skill’s 1,200 range skillfact). The phantasm will fail to summon if you’re 1,245 away. This leaves us with a small range 1,245 – 1,247 where phantasm summon skill will not have red bar below it yet fail to summon.
In fact, I’ve tested many other targeted underwater skills (Decoy, Polymorph Tuna, etc) and they will initiate at that range yet will then immediately display “Out of Range” and fail to work. The bug is not limited to just the skill mentioned above.
4. Working as intended. Good topic for debate on changing in the future.
This was in regards to Temporal Curtain’s swiftness, and since you’re leaving this topic open to debate, I really really feel like I have to add to this discussion.
As it is right now, Temporal Curtain is rather terrible for teamplay. You used Temporal Curtain to speed up a group or a WvW zerg? Everyone who has 2 seconds of swiftness left gets nothing. This most often includes the mesmer himself who ends up with effectively no speed boosts at all except for the guardian #3 boosts everyone in the group gets. It’s rather frustrating to play. Nevermind trying to be fast as a small group with multiple mesmers in it – timing the curtains so that everyone actually gets a benefit from them is nigh impossible.
It’s really a pity that it discourages teamplay so, especially since IIRC the reason it doesn’t stack is because of people walking back and forth through it in beta, to get a ton of swiftness.
So why not just make it only proc swiftness on any player once? Or put a cooldown of a few seconds on it, that would work too. This way, people can’t abuse the wall to stack huge amounts of swiftness in no time, but it doesn’t interfere with the curtain’s ability to speed up other players who aren’t trying to abuse the curtain but who have some little swiftness from another source.
I can’t say nothing more than I just agree with the post above. As mesmer it sux to rely only on TC to get some swiftness and even worse when it doesn’t stack. Several and several times I got slowed down during a run or fleeing from enemies because TC failed to give me swiftness just because I had 1 or 2 secs left of swiftness (that, at times, wasn’t granted by myself but someone else).
- Altered 30. Phantasms and Weapon Master.
- Added 32. Underwater Mimic.
- Added 33. Underwater Skill Range.
My thread about temporal curtain and why it works the way it works currently. This has been discussed and suggested so many times already, and it is still considered a “good topic for debate”…
(edited by Lishtenbird.2814)
It would be nice if they changed Temporal Curtain to have an actual curtain look, like a purple floating aurora and have it about the same size as Wall of Reflection so it can function the same with Warden’s Feedback.
