No more 'preview' for all armor types?
I feel like this might have been intended, and unfortunatly there is no really good debate for the capability to view other armor types other than your own. But im sure most players would agree it does make things just a touch more annoying.
But the reason for this reply is to mention back items dont seem to preview at all, which im sure is a bug.

I think that viewing armor for the purposes of equipping alts is the only ‘good reason’ I need for wanting the capability to view other types of armor.
Removing this feature makes things unbelievably complicated. My bank is pretty full as it is, so now I have to clear out a space to put the new gear in the bank. Log in and out of my other medium and light armor characters to try the armor on. Log back in to my main character. Withdraw the armor I want to sell, and put the stuff I had to take out of my bank to make space, back in!
Before I could just preview and sell.
seems intended, sadly
Please either fix this bug or allow us to view them anyway. I like looking at all the armour with one character, as opposed to running all over the place with 3 different characters.

It’s obviously a bug. It serves no purpose than to otherwise force players to log out in order to appreciate the armour friends ping, or test armour for their other characters. It fixes nothing and only causes inconvenience.
Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.
Don’t appreciate it as well. That feature was one big difference to other games I saw so far, and now u take it away….
Do we get TP preview in return?
THAT would be helpful for the players, not taking away something which sometimes had graphic issues when previewing them. (I saw some of these issues and it wasn’t that bad to result in a removal)
Alexandra, thats a lousy excuse for this change. I think there is a bug in someones desicionmaking. Im afraid of what you guys will come up with next.
The fact is the positive side of being able to preview off-armor far outweighs a few graphical glitches and I hope someone will be smart enough to revert this to its previous state.

Ridiculous decision. It harmed nothing and removing it is an obnoxiously unnecessary inconvenience for every single player.
alexandra, im sure it is not your fault, so excuse me for being so angry. but wtf? this is the kind of thing that the phrase “nerfing fun” came about for. you took something harmless and fun and removed it. i thought i got away from this kind of crap when i stopped playing blizzard’s games. were the ‘graphics issues’ in question game-breaking to the point where they crashed the client? or was it just clipping on the models being previewed? i would like to know and hear a justified reason.
Shocked and dismayed at this decision. You took a piece of the game that I recall no one ever complaining about and “fixed” it – actually made a very annoying thing out of it. Change it back Anet. You are going down the wrong road by restricting freedom of choice like this.
@Arimik, Generally aesthetic as far as I know. Like texture maps applying themselves in places they shouldn’t be, on armors you’re not previewing. As well as lots of clipping of course. I liked being able to see them too, but I can understand why that decision was made. If you have ideas or features you’d like to see I’d say post em on the suggestion forum. I can’t promise it would be implemented, but the more people who say they want something the better!

Unbeleiveable. With all the actual bugs in the game, THIS gets changed? Come on Anet, this hurt exactly nobody. Put it back the way it was. Put a damn disclaimer on it if you like saying “objects in preview may appear different in game” if you really feel the need to.
/facepalm
I understand where the devs are coming from. When previewing pieces of different armor types, I’ve seen on occasion conflicting models.
However, I must say I strongly disagree with this change. It’s a lot more convenient, practical and – yes – fun to be able to preview any armor piece on any character (cultural armor excluded). On a game that is supposed to be about cosmetics and prestige skins, being able to browse skins and take a look at interesting visuals should be made as easy as possible.
So I urge you to please go back in this decision. The clipping issues when previewing armor of different types are a very minor issue that is not game breaking at all. Your’re pretty much just nerfing fun here.

Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.
So why did you not include this in the patch notes? figured no one notice?
Given that so many armors clip or conflict with each other, using graphic issues as an excuse just doesn’t cut it.

i appreciate your response and you have renewed my faith that these are being read. but if this reason is the image issue i saw from time to time while previewing, the fix was simply to clear the preview or preview another piece of gear. this change is unreasonable.
I’m well aware of the graphic glitches that can happen and have seen them a number of times, but this is a really, really, really silly change in my opinion. You removed some very useful and convenient functionality to cover a graphic glitch. That’s a horrible tradeoff to the people who are actually playing the game.
Please, give us this feature back. No one cares about clipping in preview mode, but almost everyone used preview to check clothes and weapons of other classes.
I was aware of the texture issue, but that’s no reason to disable functions that are still useful! I’m really confused at this call, Anet. It serves no constructive function, just makes previewing less useful.

Like she said, it was a flat out “nerf to fun”.
We realize you can’t promise stuff that is suggested to be implemented, but what you can do is take back to the dev team that this is a hugely negative impact to the game and that it needs to be reverted. We do not care about graphical bugs with gear of different types being seen together. We care about being free to enjoy the game in a way in which we 1) have become accustomed to and 2) that allows us to enjoy the wonderful art of the game.
No, put this back how it was. Sure, ti could cause some screwy issues, but better to have those screwy issues and being able to preview the items than to not be able to preview the items at all.
you spend complaining about it on the forums, you’d be
done by now.”
This probably got changed because there were too many dim bulbs reporting bugs related to this and the people reviewing bug reports ended up wasting too much time on those. These same people are the ones who came up with the brilliant idea that reporting the same bug over and over is going to get changes to happen faster.
It’s a bit like a kid wrecking the car a couple of times and the parents taking away the keys …
There are clipping issues and the like anyway, especially with weapons. This was a really handy feature, please add it back (along with adding preview to the trading post). Thank you.

That is downright… poo-y!
I use my main character to go hunting for armour sets to acquire on my alts at a later date!
Booo! BOOOOOOO!!!
Do you even lift, bro?
Please revert it to the way it was. Seeing as that I have many many characters, I often will preview armors on a race before I go and make a new character.
Example: Playing my norn thief I will preview heavy armors to know if I want to spend 10$ for a new character slot to make a norn guardian…… Anet will now miss out on my money =/
I don’t see any kind of rationale behind it. Obviously players like to link items amongst each other, so that we can preview their nice equipment they’ve acquired. What’s next? Will you guys make it so we can’t preview weapons that our profession can’t use as well?

I’d rather some graphic issues than not being able to preview them on any character, mighta asked for some feedback before making some random change nobody would like.
I literally cannot believe what I just read. This was an INTENDED change? Why in the world would I not be allowed to preview armor for an alt? Please change this back – it’s completely ridiculous.
Yep, I still motion for adding this back, even though I know that there were very, very, rarely these glitches (so rare in fact I didn’t even make the connection between them and this removal)
To add to that – the glitches never hurt anyone, but this change does.
Give Charr armor some more love!
Let us show our spots, stripes, or lack-there-of in style.
Sorry, but this decision is so pointless and arbitrary… so blizzardific. Is it not possible to lock the preview window to show only one class of armor at a time, instead of removing the feature altogether?

Have you guys ever played with an asura or charr? Mostly everything clips badly on them. And to a further extend, mostly other weapons clips horribly on every other races, special mentions to shields and focus.
I could totally understand if this was meant to cultural armor or gender specific, something that truly would look out of place in a character, but this isn’t the case here.
This “fix” not being mentioned anywhere in any patches seems to imply you guys knew how mad people would be. But it was done anyway, for a random excuse and pure spite of the community.

Only a very simple function on preview already able to fix it, a button for Light/Medium/Heavy armor, when light armor button is click, only light armor could be drag into the preview slot. The different rating armor button will activate by the character class, but allow to select another armor rating button for preview other class armor.
Has every armor available and exotics too every race every gender every armor class.
Use this until a proper alternative is made. Wiki is good too.
So, wait, you have trillions of unresolved graphical glitches and clipping issues reported in two different forum threads (and a whole lot of them is quite significant yet it’s been an open issue for months now), and you’d rather implement this unwanted and unnecessary fix for “generally aesthetic” reasons?
I wish you’d put that much effort into fixing relevant issues instead. Even if the preview window glitches when used to preview improper combinations, well, it’s just that, a preview window...
By the way, I still get the “overlapping textures” glitch every now and then (like, yesterday, I got the texture of some leggings I was previewing stuck on my character’s underwear, down to his legs), so this pointless inconvenience hasn’t really fixed anything yet.
Put. The Candle. Beck.
I use off-weight previewing all the time to see what Faction I want to put my alts into (check their armor appearance BEFORE choosing a faction). I also use it to check if an Item that has droped on character A is something I want to save to use on character B without going to the bank followed by having to do a bunch of logging in & out.
You created an enormous hassle to try and hide a minor bug.
Not a winning proposition.
I wonder what your basis for comparison is…”

I don’t see the point of this, and most of the players obviously want the previewing back how it was.
I agree with the crowd here, undo this change.

This is NOT an acceptible substitute. Not even close.
When we can preview, we see it on races and body-builds of our choosing, using our color schemes in combinaitons we select including leaving off gloves or shoulder or boots to see the full item. Relying on third party sites to stand in for an already working functionality that has been removed is a cop-out of the worst sort.
I’m sure its a great site, but its not gonna update instantly when new gear appears, its not gonna let us rotate freely, its not gonna deliver what we already had in game until someone got twitchy that you have to click preview twice sometimes (oh noes)to clear mismatching bit maps.

Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.
Sorry to be blunt, but, I think this is a lame excuse. I think people understand that previewing an armor that you can’t wear can have issues like that. And nobody cares. The only people who care are the developers. Bad move, imo.
Put. It. Back.
This was an incredibly bad decision. I like to go into HotM and just flip through all the armor to see what I like. Seeing how it looks on my existing characters helps me decide what race/gender I should make new ones. Now if I want to see how light armor looks on a female human, I have to actually make a female human scholar.
All because of a little bit of clipping? Are you serious? I guess whoever made this decision has never played a charr. If they did, they’d probably either remove the entire race or restrict them from wearing any armor.

Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.
The graphic issues with previewing non-wearable armour types were no more serious than the preview issues I have with the armour I can wear. The change seems wilful and ill-considered, I know this isn’t a game designed by committee but really at the moment it seems that ANet are actively trying to annoy the customer base by “fixing” bugs that either never really existed (preview panel) or which were beneficial to characters (Super Elixir), whilst long-standing features (Guesting) or bugs that affect characters negatively (underwater combat invulnerability/reset) appear to fall by the wayside.
If there were graphic issues with previewing non-wearable armours then why not fix the preview bugs rather than just disable it? I mean, this is probably a pretty low priority item on the list but honestly I’d rather have the bugged version than nothing at all.
Piken Square
Hey everyone. This is a fix that is working as intended. As these armor types were never designed to be worn together, it resulted in some graphic issues when previewing them.
Whatever bug it was, it’s priority should have been set to something along “Minor cosmetic annoyances nobody cares about” and fixed in around 6-7 years after launch. And for sure the fix better not remove many useful features in the process
And instead of that, there’s still many problems with the preview that aren’t fixed. We still have to get ourselves naked to preview many weapons because the pose is wrong. We still cannot preview many effects for some items (Priory weapons anyone?). We still cannot preview items straight from trading post.
This change sends a VERY negative image about ANet to the whole community. It makes you seem like you are in a total disconnect about the reality of your game vs your players. Do something about this bug quickly.
You could have “fixed” that bug differently. For example, previewing a mismatched item will automatically unequip (ie, same as if you don’t wear any item) all the other armor parts of different class in the preview window. Btw, put a button that does exactly that for when we preview weapons too!
You could just have ignored the bug as unimportant.
