Quest: Shell Shock, is not working.
Basically, after the part “Escort the artillery to the battleground” they set up their mortars and all that and nothing happens. The quest just doesn’t continue after that part, I have run this quest twice now to see if anything changes and it doesn’t.
The instance mission called “Shell Shock” at L64 along the main
Human Ranger storyline in Dysphoric Rim does not appear to finish for me.
I’ve to escort an artillery company. I’ve killed all the mobs, talked to all the NPC’s
and explored the map. The NPC’s wait at a bridge after all mobs are dead and nothing happens. I tried last night and today but still nothing. I dont appear to be able to complete the instance and move on the storyline.
Is it possible I could be doing something wrong? or is it bugged?
I cant see anything else to do within the confines of the instance.

I’ve went through this where they just stop at the bridge and do nothing.
I’ve went through it when they stop at the bridge and their are mortars set up already
on the bridge when I get there and then they do nothing.

Shell shock, personal story , is getting jammed after killing the veteran spider. The company, that should unload the supplies, gets stucked. Cant do anything , did it 3 times already , same result.
Same here. Patchnotes said it was fixed.
…But apparently it wasn’t.
They just stand in front of the bridge doing nothing.
Got it working. Tried it again and it worked.
Got stuck again at fort Trinity later, tried it again and it worked too
I tried it again and still not working.
I just got to this quest “Shell Shock”
I arrived at the bridge just after the Giant Spider and artillery group just stand there with no way to communicate to them to progress the story line, I see via Google it’s supposed to be fixed but it definitely is not fixed at least for me.
EDIT: I managed to get passed the Bridge, I tried a second time and instead of looting and lagging behind after the spider I just ran with them, this seems to have jolted the quest or something as I have progressed and now finished this quest.

Same, gets stuck at bridge.
Just did this, successful on the second try. I think it has something to do with killing the spiders before letting the group reach the bridge, and the Charr commander telling the troops to set up.
Same problem for me—I’ve only tried once so far, but it should work the first time, right?
I got through it second try but it nearly failed again. I think the hatchlings are the problem. Just after the veteran spider dies the guy yells to get set up, you get a delayed set of hatchlings spawning after that yell and I think that is what breaks it. The NPCs fight the fresh spiders and it deletes their setup order, the charr never repeats the order so it hangs.
So tip of the day, try and time the big spider dying to be just before she lays more eggs (ie just before the next batch hatch).
Same thing. Quest is bugged. this will be my 3rd try.

Same for me right now, I am stuck at the bridge. Sounds like there is still a major problem with this mission.

Same here. This quest is still bugged. Tried 3 times already. I guess I’ll just keep trying it until it works. Very annoying.
Encountered this bug today. After killing the giant spider and her minions, the mortar team disappeared and teleported to the bridge. After that the quest no longer progresses for me.
It’s been 15 days and it’s still not fixed, why?

I ran into the exact same issue. Just alt+tab out of it and googled and found this thread. Same story as the rest. After vet spider everyone goes to bridge and nothing happens.
The very same happened to me. I blame the spiders!

Don’t know if I timed the Big Spider dying, don’t think I did. But when he yells the order the Dolyak starts moving. I just stayed with it and let the NPC’s clean up the last of the spiders. Worked for me.
Same. Why does it always have to be the long tedious quest’s that bug and why do they have to bug at the end?
It would be nice if Arena Net did something like the devs over at Blizzard do and maybe post “we’re working on it” or “try this” or whatever… I’m going to try to kite the spider down to the bridge and see what happens… this will be my 6th attempt, so far i’ve had 2 attempts successful at unpacking the mortars, but nothing progresses after that.
Okay kiting doesnt work, but here’s what does. When you kill the veteran spider DO NOT stay behind and kill the leftover hatchlings. Run forward with the Dolyak. NEXT, when the NPCs unpack the mortars, FOLLOW them onto the bridge and stay there while they unpack. Once the last one is unpacked, a cutscene should ensue. If it doesn’t start over. Took me 8 tries to find this workaround…

Yup, just ran this twice and the NPCs still hang out right before the bridge
EDIT: OK just finished it. So I went after the big spider first, as soon as it died I followed the Dolyak to the bridge, the commander gave the order and I stood on the bridge and waited for the NPCs to deploy the mortars. The commander was still hung up on the second wave of spider trash mobs so I went back to help out. Once they were dead everything went smoothly.

Still bugged, I have tried the quest twice now…..
The comments above are all correct. Follow the pack animal when it runs down the path after the Veteran Spider dies, even if the NPCs are still fighting hatchlings. Stand on the bridge while the mortars are set up. I looted everything during the spider fight so I wouldn’t miss out once it died. I also stood on top of it as it died so I could loot it as I ran after the pack animal. This isn’t fixed, but this is the work-around. I tried it once, realized it was bugged, then tried it this way and it worked first try.
I tried it that way and the NPCs set the mortars up and then froze in place at the entrance of the bridge. It takes quite a bit of mob trash to get to this point so it is not even worth another try until they fix it.

This is STILL broken. Stuck at the Bridge.
I haven’t been able to reproduce this bug after multiple tries. Do any of the NPCs appear “stuck” on the bridge? (They might have been walking past a mortar when it was built, causing them to get stuck in the prop.)
They never went on the bridge, just stood before it. On my second try I killed the giant spider as fast as I could and everything worked fine after that. On the first bugged try I took my time killing the baby spiders first so I think as others have said it is an issue with the second spawn of baby spiders.
The Shell Shock storyline gets stuck at the bridge. The NPCs stop moving and just stand there over the green star.
Yeah, this just happened to me, as well. Tried moving over the bridge to see if that would spur them into following, thus moving on with the next part. Also backtracked all the way back to the starting point to see if any of the NPCs got stuck somewhere, but nope. They just stop at the bridge and that’s it…..Blackpowder tells the soldiers to unload the supplies and get the mortars ready to fire….and they just stand there.

Was the cart of artillery supplies also at the bridge?
The cart and the group of NPCs were all stopped just before the bridge, not on the bridge.
Sorry it took a while to notice your post, Jeffrey. I will try this again and see how it goes.
How far from the bridge were they? If any enemies are around, the bull with the supplies will stop. It has to reach the bridge so the team can assemble the mortars. The next content update will also contain a failsafe in case the bull is stopping because it THINKS an enemy is around, but none is actually present.
Worked today! (11/14/12) It’s not a very hard quest when it works. You kill a bunch of undead on the way to the bridge then watch the crew of Vigil you are leading shoot down undead under the bridge with mortars. Then you decide what to do about the targets turning out to be other Vigil instead of undead they looked like.
Not sure what changed. One thing I wondered about is I revive all of the NPCs and kill every hostile on the way since I am ele and not well armored. Dunno if the slower pace was a problem.
The problem is still there, unfortunately.
I managed to finish the quest at 2nd attempt. For that, I tried to keep as close as possible to the pack marmox. When spiders dies, he immediately ran forward like crazy leaving everyone else behind.
