Slaying Potions, the double-edged sword
Change the definition quietly or prefaced w/ working as intended is the way to go. Fixing it to the common expectation, by default, is admitting sloppy mistakes which is a guaranteed failed grade in my inspiring future politician class of -101.
Ignoring the problem until it goes away — that deservers an A, no?
It also a failed grade because ignoring problem is too blatantly ignoring clientele and a dumb way to remove good wills. We want them confused so we can sell more bridges hence we do not want them mad.
A better way would be is to delete the whole discussion based on certain rules not followed by some messages. No moderation but complete destruction of the discussion due to certain rules not observed. In one genius stroke, the problem disappears and the users have no way to complain.
OK, enough of off topic. Let get back in the waiting & guessing game. Thanks

Dear Developers, its two months now without any answer from you ;p
Hey folks,
This is definitely still on the radar. Outside of that, I don’t have any specific updates.
Just stopping by to let you know that I haven’t forgotten! When I have something more substantial I’ll give an update.
Another stop by that you guys haven’t forgotten after 2 months would be nice Or at least a little update.

I would settle for a “we didn’t forget about this, but it’s low-priority because we don’t really care” sort of answer. At least then we would know they were still aware of it.

it’s still bugged or fixed yet?
I dump all the related potions I get.
Has anyone tested to see how this woks with sigils?
We need to get this back to the top, so the developers can finally fix it.

It’s been more than two months, can we get an update on what is going on?

Soooo. Still nothing, then? No ETA on a fix?

No wonder these potions are so cheap.
Hmm.
Weak Potion of Sons of Svanir Slaying
Nourishment (30 m): +3% damage vs Sons of Svanir
+10 Experience from kills
Consumable
Required Level: 5
My thought is: we take more damage in PvE (more pain) and our reward is +10% experience (more gain). The riskier approach gains us +10% XP.
It’s as if someone said: “If you win against that veteran over there… without any armor on… heck, we’ll reward you with 50% more XP/gold/etc.” kind of deal.
I’m sorry if this has already been brought up in the 4 pages of this post. And to be fair: it’s to be expected that a potion would increase protection. But this is Guild Wars 2. Much of this MMO works differently from other games.
It might be possible the OP is asking A-Net to fix something that isn’t broken.
Edit, after reading more posts
Likely the description (in the example above) should say:
Player receives +3% more damage vs Sons of Svanir
Player receives +10 Experience from kills
But my guess is: the tooltip will never change since this is what the developers meant all along. +10 is what we get in terms of experience. So… +3% damage vs. [fill in mob name here] seems obvious.

2 months wow. Its kind of like why are we bothering posting these bug reports?
Maybe the trick is to post a bug report and then use every curse word there is at the bottom of the post. I mean they can’t infract you without at least reading your post right?

You are not looking at the right potions. The higher ones say they offer damage reduction as well:
Powerful Potion of Sons of Svanir Slaying
Nourishment (1h):
+10% damage vs. sons of Svanir
-10% damage from sons of Svanir
+10 Experience from kills
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Powerful_Potion_of_Sons_of_Svanir_Slaying

That “-10% damage from” is what this thread is about. The “+10% damage to” is working fine.

Whoa! Okay, good point. I have had higher level characters than my current lower ones. But at those levels I just didn’t set aside inventory space for 9 or so potions.
So it seems we have to decide whether it’s worth the extra XP and risk. :\
Still no response.
Everybody needs to submit an ingame bug report. I have PM’d the original responder from Anet on this, but got no response.
This is bad customer service IMHO. I hope a moderator or developer is actually looking at these bug threads to get the job taken care of………

MMO players have come to expect “more content vs fixing bugs” over the years from typical MMOs.
The current Trading Post prices for potions is rock bottom. Regardless whether a “slaying potion” is Level 5 or Level 80: 3 to 5 coppers each. Had these potions did what they say they do, potion creation would be somewhat profitable. So ineffective potions are a double slap to ArenaNet’s clientele.
I, for one, would vote in favor of a 2-week period where a Bug Squashing Fest replaces yet another Living Story update. A serious concerted effort on the part of the staff to mend broken game parts would soothe a growing number of ruffled feathers.
So it seems we have to decide whether it’s worth the extra XP and risk. :\
Every single consumable grants +10% XP from kills.
Still not fixed. I wonder if they even care. I can see that patch note coming: “Changed the functionality of potions, now they make the mobs hit 10% harder!”
So it seems we have to decide whether it’s worth the extra XP and risk. :\
Every single consumable grants +10% XP from kills.
That’s actually another error. It’s +10XP, not % (even though it says %)
Also, I guess nothing substantial has occured in two months.
If you want to really get this fixed, just find a way to make money off it. If we can do that it will be fixed in an hour.
Seriously though, this is ridiculous service on the part of Anet. I can understand if it can take time to program and fix the issue but what I can’t understand is the lack of information from anyone at ANet. Two months is way too long to go without an update of some sort, even if it was just the “we’re working on it” type.
I’ve been waiting for this to get fixed for months, i guess the more people that post on this thread the faster it will be fixed hopefully, so… posted
Yeah, I don’t know what’s going on at this point. As I see it, there are several possibilities:
- They’re reading this thread and know about the problem, but they don’t have any updates and don’t want to admit it.
- They don’t read the bug forum at all.
- They have been reading and do care, but they’re waiting for the guy in charge of this one to get back from a 2-month vacation so they’ll know what’s going on, and they don’t want to tell us anything because they don’t want to admit that the reason for the delay is they don’t have anyone actively working on it.
- They don’t have anyone actively working on it because they don’t care, and they don’t want to tell us that because they know we do care.
I don’t know which one it is. Maybe there’s some option I haven’t thought of, some scenario in which they really do care but are somehow incapable of responding in any way. Oh! I know…

or maybe #7- They HAVE forgotten about us.
I think it is likely #7. Josh transferred, the holidays & Wintersday patch were coming up, and this issue slipped through the cracks. It doesn’t make Anet horrible people, it makes them human. But now that this thread has been keeping on the first few pages most of the week, they need to acknowledge it slipped through the cracks and give us an update on a fix. Here’s hoping the bumping will get them to acknowledge they did forget about us & will sort out this bug asap.

Yeah, I used to think that they had just forgotten. Now, however, I think “forgetting about us” would require not reading the bug forum, which is why I listed that instead.

Still bugged – would be great to get an answer to this sometime…
Moving back to the top. I feel sorry for players thinking they strengthening their characters, and having no clue why they are taking more damage. Most people aren’t aware the potions are bugged and just believe the tool tip.

Which they SHOULD! I’m not feeling bad for them for not knowing the bug, I’m feeling bad for them that ANET doesnt wanna fix it.
They aren’t reading this, if they were they would say something like “yes this is still on the radar” or “expect it fixed end 2015”. Just some regular responses..
Bumping thread. Jeez this sure takes a lot of bumping

Remember when they said they’d update us on this?
I have stated direct mailing developers, to see if anyone actually reads them, and to see if they will address the thread.

I wonder if the -1% damage from guards WvW infusions are working properly?
yea it would be nice to know something, I cringe at all the new people wasting their mats thinking that these work as intended.
I know that Josh Davis (the original Anet responder) is not with the WvW team. I hope that he pass this subject to someone else. Anything Anet? Its ok if you can’t say a ETA on the fix. But its a bug or the description will be changed, are you working on it in the next 6 months? Somethings.

Potions work as intended, just a minor tooltip bug. I’m sure it’ll be fixed toot sweet.
I wonder if this will be fixed on Tuesday.

What month & year?
It’ll be fixed on tuesday and also the dragons will finally arrive.
That is not confirmed as far as I know.
Also, why the big deal?
Yes the potion behaves different from the description, no excuses there and yes they should fix it BUT fix it PROPERLY. Proper fixes need time, research, manhours. Fixes for less important things will be put on hold. I’d rather wait another year for this fix than have it fixed tomorrow and have to wait for some crashloop bugfix put on hold instead.
Basicly the potions now do exactly what zerker armor does for you:
You hit hard and take hard. Nobody got problems with zerker armor do they…
Just to bring this up that there is no excuse for an ingame feature to behave in a different way than it should. There is also no excuse to start flooding the forum with wailing which won’t speed up the fix of something far less important than most fixes we have had in the past months.
Leaving this bug unattended won’t cause any serious problems or make the game unplayable for you. Let Anet keep up the good work. They said they will adress it, so wait for it…

What important bug fixes do they? None…
Cash Shop fixes ?!

No. They stealth a lot of changes in every patch (harpy feathers, Arah dungeon JPs, for example in this latest patch).
It has now been more than THREE MONTHS since we’ve gotten an official response on this topic. Is nobody with the power to change things even reading this? I’d at least appreciate a “sorry it’s taken so long; this is still on the radar.”
:(
=> An aside: If, by any miniscule chance, a dev catches this, would you please put all changes on the patch notes? As amusing as it is to find abrupt changes in dungeons, it’d be nice to have a heads-up. (waypoint changes in Arah, new walls, new doors, etc)
