This was posted 9 days ago by an ArenaNet GM. I don’t know about you, but my story line is still all jacked up. Can we get some answers please? This is getting kind of rediculus, and it’s obvious this problem is only getting worse by the number of posts increasing daily
Character name: B A D Omen level 80 warrior
Where I assume my story got messed up:
lv 70 story: at the point when you choose your greatest fear (leave a friend to suffer; be responsible for the death of an innocent; fail at something and lose the respect of my comrades)..
Woops, I didn’t see this thread.
-Character name: Loreleidre
-Quest: Bad Blood
My story jumped from Bad Blood to one of the 2 options, without me choosing. This bug was fixed, but I’m stuck at the next quest without having decided if I wanted to go there. Also, I have Bad Blood quest text missing from my hero panel.
More information here: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Bug-on-personal-story-decision-quest-Bad-Blood-Durmand-Priory/first#post159389
I would be fine with a reset back to the beginning of Bad Blood, so I can complete it again and choose my path correctly, as well as avoid having the Bad Blood tab on My Story empty and bugged.
Thanks for everything!

Story step where everything still seemed okay: “The Battle of Fort Trinity”
I was on the orb story with Apatia and took the “Willing Captives” choice. I was expecting an heroic rescue at some point but instead I’m telling the family of someone (Tonn) I’ve never met about the death of their loved one. :/
I have been playing with my husband(Character: Crancion, Human, Elementalist, 75, Priory) and he took that path through the story and we’ve been playing through the shared story steps together. At this point iirc; we followed his story with Tonn first, went to my story with Apacia, (the steps of these might have been interleaved a bit) . We then entered the battle step together with Crancion taking the lead. The battle for Fort Trinity mission bugged for us. After we got wiped out by zillions of risen spawning after the dock defense step, resetting to a checkpoint ended up with the army stuck in the fort, Trahearne somehow dead in front of a spawn of many endlessly respawning risen – we weren’t able to get to him to see if that would reset things. We restarted the mission, again with Crancion taking the lead. I died again in the post dock step, but respawned in the fort later as Crancion made it. The mission completed successfully and I accepted the progress of the story. As often happens in the shared instance the personal story info updates in the corner for the lead player, except this time when I leave the instance it isn’t updated to reflect my choice in the story.
Is this a permanent feature of my personal story now? My fear very real by truly abandoning my friend in a horrible situation unable to make good on my promise to rescue her. Or will I be able to eventually heroically rescue Apatia?
Thanks!

Just to let you know my ticket was closed a second time and this problem is still not resolved. My ticket has been open since 9/6/2012. I would really like to get a resolution on this problem as my wife and I still cannot play together on our personal stories.

8. Any other notes?
1. Llew Ellyn
2. Human, 80, Sorrows Furnace, Ranger
3. Down the Hatch was the last correct step. I accepted progression as I was a party member.
4. My husband’s character who started the the step progressed correctly.
5. My husband and I had been working on our story lines as a team from the beginning, and I had always accepted the “advance with your story” option. The only exception was when there was a choice to be made. We went back as a team for those with me leading the group.
6. I got skipped to Suspicious Activities (48).
7. When I went back to the Chantry of Secrets there were skritt there thanking me even though I never got the choice of which path I could take. I accompanied my husband through his story hoping that I would receive the option to continue on my missing steps but I didn’t get that option.
8. I missed out on several rewards of armor, experience, and gold. I also didn’t receive my Achievement Flag for being a part of the Order of Whispers. I used the bug report system when this happened with a screenshot attached there as well.
I already submitted this in game but I will re-post here too
Character: Verdan Von Boom
Server: Ehmry Bay
Story: (lvl 30) Chose Priory, was placed in Vigil
Details: Was in a party with my wife (Rubyofdeath.4583 on Isabel Rosebud) during the quest to choose an order (Sylvari). It was her instance and she chose Priory. When she exited the instance I was given the usual option to choose to accept her choices and move on or reject. I chose to accept because I wanted the same order. Now I realize that I have been place in the Vigil instead. My wife was placed in the quest “Dead of Winter” which I assume is the Priory Quest.

I know they’re working on getting the actual bug fixed but it would be nice to know if they’ll be able to fix those of us that have already skipped 20 levels of quests or ended up in the wrong order.
Just because I think you guys would like to know this update… As they closed the support ticket, I send them another one with this text:
“As my bug with the storyline skipped still persists I send you another support ticket with more dat
My character name is Pulguixx, an asura elementalist now on level 63. I’ve done the quest “A meeting of the minds” with my boyfriend (an asura guradian) who was the story owner. He choose the Drumand priory organization, and I choose to advance my story to that point.
Then my story skipped to “On red Alert (level 48)”
Please, give me some feedback because this happened 2 weeks and I don’t know if it can be fixed, if my character is gonna have a rollback, if I’m gonna receive the xp and rewards or if it has no solution and I have to continue the story from this point. At least tell me and the other players that have the same bug something so we don’t feel that we and our issue is forgotten!!"
And today I received this:
“At this time we’re unable to make these kinds of adjustments to characters. I’m sorry that there’s not more that we can do in this case.
In the meantime, be sure to keep an eye on the latest game status updates located on the following web pages:

I got a similar response explaining what they are trying to do to fix this:
“We are aware of this issue and the Development Team is diligently working on resolving it. Unfortunately, the support team does not have the ability to make manual changes to your character’s storyline quests. The only way to resolve this issue is by the Development Team releasing a patch for it. I realize how frustrating this situation must be and I’m truly sorry there isn’t more direct assistance I can offer. The only thing I can recommend at this time is to keep an eye on the Game Status Update page on our wiki for news concerning this issue. In the meantime, I recommend playing another character until we’re able to get this issue fixed.”
Character Name: Howlard
Mission : After The Lost Chieftain’s Return
My story quest is with the vigil and my wife’s is with the order of whispers. While doing the Agrak Krall missions everything was okay but then she had to report back to her order for mission Suspicious Activity and so did I. I am pretty I should have reported to the vigil for a different mission. I have been promoted to Lightbringer which I am pretty sure is not a Vigil title.
It looks like both story lines then carried on to The Battle Of Claw Island which, even though I started the instance, had both Lightbringer Tybalt Leftpaw and Warmaster Forgal Kernsson. They talked over each other on the map. In the cut-scenes I was left talking to Tybalt when I should have been talking with Forgal.
Edit: I should mention that our stories are back on their respective tracks now.

Changed story course: level 30, Orders choice.
I was playing with a friend, which was the whole point of our characters – doing PS together for same choices. This thing happened twice, but first time it wasn’t important, because we continued and managed to get on the same line in a few quests again.
This time, though, it was the Orders choice and we both picked Priory, which was leading to quest “Dead of Winter” – per usual, I accepted progression, all swell and cherry, but the moment we left the instance my quest changed to “Flower of Death” which was a choice for the Vigil. Don’t want to continue this time, since it means all the follow up quests will be completely different for the both of us.
Finally I got an answer from CS, but its the same everyone else got, and is exactly as I feared:
Hello,
We are aware of some ongoing issues with quests. These issues are being actively investigated and we have already implemented several fixes that have cleared up many of the problems. However, we know that there is still more work to do and the development team is actively investigating the remaining issues.
At this time, the Guild Wars 2 Support Team is unable to manually fix this or to change which quest your character is on. :-(

Affected character: Mika Toshiro

Changed course: After Level 70. I chose “Letting an innocent die”, but after the battle of Fort Trinity, it changed my story path to “letting someone else suffer”. I was playing the story completely alone and finished it, there couldn’t have been any interference.

Story Steps that were changed:
In level 40 step: A small change, but the Skritt leader was at the Vigil base thanking for assistance even though I helped the Quaggans. Quaggans still remain as the race I assisted in the rest of the story.
In level 70 step: Being responsible for the death of an innocent is the choice I made and the steps show that I helped Tonn, but after I completed Battle for Fort Trinity I went back to a Krait base and helped an NPC named Apatia instead.
Another patch set goes by with no solution offered to effected players.
This is very disappointing.

Other information:
This happened following me being in a party with a friend. His quest line was unaffected. I also did one part of this quest, to see if it would change, and found I had already been initiated into the vigil, yet I had not yet reached that point (was later told by a friend that the next set of quests that have been skipped would have done this) and I have not received the banner.
I’ve sent in support ticket, but I decided to post here when I saw this thread.
Character: Zurine Haizea
Race: Human
Class: Thief
Server: Tarnished Coast (US)
Story Step: Completed “The Trap” and then was skipped over to “Suspicious Activity.” Currently on “Critical Blowback” and proceeding as expected.
Issue: Although it seems I chose to help the krait somewhere in the middle where I have a large blank between these two storylines (despite the partner I was running with choosing to help the hylek), I can now continue my personal story. However, I do not have my Order of Whispers banner on my account – and I want it. As this defect is related to the story-skipping bug I suffered, I’d like to know when I can hope to have my Whispers banner!
Character: Ru Da Begga (Sylvari)
My friend and I were purposefully running identical characters so we could quest and run the story line together. We have both been unable to join one another on various instances. If I run in first, he never gets the option to join and vice versa. We’ve made it to the part where you choose an order. He ran the story and I joined. He picked the priory, it asked would i like to continue my story, I selected yes. I assumed since he made the decision, it would have the same decision made for me. That is the way it has been so far. We leave the area, he’s priory and now I’ve mysteriously joined the vigil??? Our whole point in making identical characters and picking the exact same options is so we can run ONE story line. Now we’re separated. Please address this issue.
Character: Angelic Tia
Race: Asura
Class: Guardian
Server: Gunners Hold
Story skipped : only skipped the actual 30 quest where u pick drumond prior or whispers guild thingy
wanted 2 go with the vigil but it skipped quest do i got 2 reroll ?
Character: Gern Sool
My story was skipped at the level 30 area where I chose to accept the progress of a party member when they were on the same quest. It skipped ahead to a level 48 quest which was from a different order than the one I selected.
Every other mmo I had dev tools for or saw gm’s use dev tools in or saw servers for had the tool built in to their servers so that gm could log in and edit peoples characters. They’ve already very obviously edited peoples characters before to fix certain bugs.
Either the tools to fix this issue DO exist (so how’d yah plan to edit or monitor those exploiters?) or there is a pathetic and inadequate foundation in the server gm code that makes old 2d zelda style “make your own mmo” engines look fancy.
If the tools don’t exist, as they say… all those people who exploited could have gotten away with keeping all their bugged stuff.
If the tools do exist, why say they don’t?
I can’t see the logic in this at all.. I just fail to see how any of this makes sense. I fail to see why people haven’t had their characters fixed. I fail to see how all the 100% completion bugs haven’t been fixed for like half the zones.
I hope they are just busy working on mad king thorn.. that would totally make it up if I had a pumpkin head.

Character: Ayathoriel
Quest: Trouble at the Roots, Flower of Death
I was playing the personal story together with my friend. When we reached the point to choose an order, my friend chose Priory, and I accepted the progress. However, I seem to have been incorrectly assigned to the Vigil.
Character: Telvaelyn
Quest: Trouble at the Roots, Dead of Winter
My friend and I have been playing together since level 1 without any issues until now. When it came to choose an order to permanently join, we agreed on the Priory and so I chose that. After doing so, it turns out that his character, Ayathoriel, was placed in the Vigil. Since we can no longer play the story together, we have to put progressing that on hold until this can be fixed. Although my story hasn’t split, I’m posting in the hopes that more information will speed along a fix.
Just got this e-mail:
Thank you again for contacting the Guild Wars Support Team. We are aware that there have been some bugs blocking progression in some personal story-lines, and I am excited to advise that many of these issues have been resolved with the most recent build.
In the most recent update to the game, we have resolved bugs in the following story steps: “A Fragile Peace,” “Against the Corruption,” “Bad Blood,” “Forging the Pact,” “Stand By Your Krewe,” and “Tower Down.” The difficulty has also been adjusted on many story steps, which may also help you with your story-line progression if you were previously stuck. I encourage you to try to complete these parts of your story again as it may have been resolved in the most recent or a previous build.
If you continue to experience issues with any of the story-lines mentioned as fixed in the most recent update, or story-lines not mentioned, please be sure to submit a bug report in-game so that the development team can be made aware of any persistent issues.
I’m not sure why I am getting this, as I am not on that story,. my character is STILL BUGGED and I am not getting a fix or an ETA…
I have said this many times, and I have posted a screenshot, and reported it in game, not sure why I have to KEEP REPORTING IT??

Update:
The 10/1 build should reset players who skipped forward back to the “Choose your order” step (which varies by race), though it’s a code-side change so I don’t know any details beyond that.
Yay! I hope that will fix it.. my characters (and myself ^^) are so waiting to progress the storyline.
:-)
Will the Oct 1st update fix characters’ story that got changed to a different line as well as the ones that skipped?
No, it only affects players that skipped steps.
Will there ever be a fix for the characters that got changed to the wrong quest lines?
Jeffrey – THANK YOU for the update!

Character Name: Erisa Silverwind
Story Step: Level 70 (Greatest Fear)
Chose Fear of forcing someone to suffer which changed at the end to Fear of letting an innocent die
Went from “Intercepting the Orb” to “A Sad Duty”
Story name: Forging the Pact
Problem 1: When it comes time to escort the researchers to the southern exit with Trahearne. The Researchers do not follow.
Not only is this a horrible mission entirely on its own, it’s still broken
Thank you for the update! I look forward to being able to play with my guardian again (and my love being able to play with their necromancer).
Perhaps eventually there could be a storyline reset of sorts built into the base game that would simply allow people to just pay a price to reset their storyline much like they are able to reset the traits. The game isn’t grindy at all so the experience and rewards wouldn’t really make a huge difference for people who were able to complete the storyline (seeing as how they need to be high level to complete it in the first place). It would simply give them the ability to do a New Game Plus + type thing and allow them to experience things from different perspectives without having to make an otherwise identical character with only slight changes to their storyline.
It would provide content for everyone if coded correctly, and allow people with bugged steps a means to fixing their storyline.
Anyway, just a thought on one method to fixing that kind of error that could be attempted in the future. Much like Saints Row 3, I tend to love Guild Wars 2’s storyline and of course the voice actors and writing. It is a shame to only be able to do the stories in a one off… SR3 had a mod eventually accomplish this. Perhaps ArenaNet could add this to a patch? I’d be fairly certain everyone would love it.
One thing I would really like to know though is… If two people have the same exact storyline and party to complete them, will they still get bugs? Have those bugs (either skipping or changing story incorrectly) been fixed? We would love to complete our storylines together but have paused doing storylines until this is without a doubt fixed.

UPDATE: no change for my girlfriend and I. I chose Order of Whispers and she was in the instance with me. She ended up with Vigil.
It has been this way for several weeks.
Please provide an NPC to allow people who are on the first step of their order quest to either reset back to the story step where they make the choice, or to simply change their minds. It is OK if once they do the first step that they’re locked in IMO… they’re already receiving rewards for that order.
this would not be an exploitable situation, and would allow someone to easily correct being put into an order they didn’t originally want.
…

There is an update on the original bug in this thread: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/story/Personal-Story-with-friend-Progress-cooperatively/266044.
“Without a doubt”? That’s tougher. Bugs are usually unknown until somebody stumbles over one.
