Account Closures: 2 November 2015
For one it’s anets decision not yours, they can give mercy as they want. Second i find their autoban to aggressive, i’m not breaking Tos in anyway but could be auto banned due to sharing ip or pc. And last referring to a post for readability is nice, but filling up the thread is not.
They’re not going to say what was used to hack/cheat on an account or how they detected it because it would give people ideas on how to get around the system. In other words, if they say what software was used to cheat, someone may try to modify the software to avoid further detection.
I finally got back my account after a banned since 11/4. My account was compromised and it was my fault for being an idiot. I was scammed because of the in-game phishing scam. But now, i’m just happy that i got unblock. GJ ANet team. Basically, anyone that is truly innocent, they would know
To all who disagree with banning all of one’s accounts when only 1 or 2 are caught cheating: you have to consider the circumstances.
If a player has 2 accounts and uses 1 to bot to gain large quantities of gold and/or items, they are probably transferring stuff over to their their main account. If only the cheating account was banned they would retain all the ill gotten gains acquired on the cheating account and quite possibly create another secondary account to cheat and transfer more items over. In other words, they probably won’t learn their lesson. It would be too time consuming to check the non-cheating account to find all the ill gotten gold/items and manually remove them. It’s easier to ban all the person’s accounts as it will discourage them from ever doing it again, at least I would hope so.

Awesome news.
Customer support really needs to stop telling people they’re not going to respond anymore and actually look further into the matter to find out if such situations are the cause of a person’s accounts being used for nefarious purposes.

Of course its ANETs decision.. no one here is arguing that… but if they are applying one set of rules to one and not the other then it creates a double standards approach to their ToS.. that right there is a bad policy because no one really knows what’s right and wrong anymore.
As for you living in fear of a ban because you play on the same ip as other accounts in your house.. do you realise how many people could actually be on your ip.. look it up you might be surprised.
That said if any of those accounts are doing something that is considered against the ToS then ANET would have a reason to look a little deeper for sure… the case that has been highlighted here was not that cut and dry.. and ANET aren’t going to elaborate too deeply for obvious reasons.
I think you might be worrying for no reason, unless you maybe think you have a more sinister reason for worrying, if so then your in the lap of the gods.

And they do apply the rules fairly. We don’t know the whole truth of the situation for any poster here. So while on the surface the appearance to be the same issue, maybe they aren’t the same when you look at all the details of the two cases.
Hey guys. I’m looking at these but they take a lot of time. I know it’s not what you want to hear but I’ll get to your case as soon as I can.
A lot of these ‘false positives’ are not false – they’re due to account sharing. Account sharing is bad. It makes you look guilty of things someone else did.
If you are innocent; you will play again. I’ll work all weekend if I have to.
Michael, Have you got any news on this? I’ve been trying to reach out to you for almost a week now. (Yes, I bought a new account but i’m still fighting for my main ban since I am innocent, And it has alot of worth/emotional value to it.) Im afraid only the logs can prove my innocence.
And guys, please stop discussing what’s right and wrong. Costumer Support knows best how to handle these situations.

Hello,
I made this post because I got banned from Guild Wars 2. This ban happened due the ban wave of 2 of November. The reasons why I got banned were unknown for like 2 weeks. It’s ben over a week ago I got a mail with the reason why I got banned.
In summary: I get accused for the use of this third party software called [removed]. The fact is I have never used such program on my account and not on my computer as well.
I have this Guild Wars 2 account for over 3 years. I’ve never showed bad behavior to the community or used any disallowed software. Because for this reason I have never got a warning or suspension. I simply love the game. I would never do such a thing in a game I love. Guild Wars 2 became a hobby for me, something relaxing when I was done with school or work. It helped me to release some stress. Why would I cheat in a game which I play to relax myself?
Why do I love this game? I like to achieve something. For example I made my first legendary like 6 weeks ago. There is so much to do in this game. I like to gear up my characters the most. I like to level them up and buy some gear that suits them. In the meanwhile I love to hang around like doing dungeons, fractals, world bosses or map completion with the people I care about. Some people are real life friends and boyfriend and some are friends and guildies I have met ingame (I have even met some people in real life, because of Guild Wars 2. I am gratefull I have met such nice people I would have never met outside this game). Last but not least, I even came in contact with my best friend I knew for 12 years. I had not spoken to her for 2 years because a lot of things had happened. We both had a break of this game. One day we saw eachother online in the game and since then we are like best friends again.
Then I got permanently banned. It happened almost four weeks ago. I got suddenly kicked from the game. I can’t remember what message I got when I got kicked. When I tried to log in again it says: “Your Guild Wars 2 account has been terminated for modifying or tampering with the game, which is a breach of the User Agreement and Rules of Conduct. This action is permanent”.
I have send around 8 mails to ArenaNet and I have asked what happened and that I am innocent. I have never used a third party software. I got replies back from like 8 different GMs. They basically all said: We detected a third party software. Your account keeps permanently closed.
No more details were given. But like I said I did not use any third party software and I told them this in every single mail. In one of their mails they said they will ignore any more mails from me. I decided to stop mailing as I only got the same answer and they might not reply to me anymore. In the meanwhile a friend of mine made me a post on the forum and I have send a tweet to GM Proheals (a.k.a. Michael Henninger), because he said he would look closer at these cases. I watched the forums, twitter and my mailbox every single day. Nothing happened and I still didn’t know what had happened on my account. After two weeks of my account permanently banned my boyfriend bought a new account for me. I got the information by mail. Four minutes after I got the information of my new account I got also a mail from ArenaNet. This was weird because I didn’t send them a reply back after the last mail I got from them (which was almost 2 weeks). It was a mail from a lead GM. He mailed this to me: “The account in question was terminated for using a disallowed third party program called [removed]. I have reviewed our logs in detail to make sure that we got this correct. We did. I have confirmed the violation and I am upholding the termination of this account. It will remain closed permanently”.
I was confused. Why did a lead GM send this mail to me? What is this software called [removed]? I thought I was mistaken or somebody else used this program on my account. Another like 8 mails were send from my side and all were replied by only this lead GM. Basically what he said: This third party software [removed] was detected on your account at your home location. It was used for progressing map completion . This account will remain permanently closed.
Again, I did not use any third party software and neither did I use [removed]. I asked if he could tell me the details about which character was used, which maps were abused and when did this happen (date+time). He did not want to give those information to me. He said I could use these details to modify this software. Again, I did not use any disallowed third party software and I did also not use [removed]. I didn’t even know [removed] existed untill I got this mail from a lead GM. How am I even be able to modify this software if I simply don’t own and never used this software? I want this information to make sure they are talking about the right account. Maybe I am mistaken for another person. Maybe it was my boyfriend who used this software on my account. But this can’t be true because he has never played on my account at my home location. In the mails they stated this software was used on my home location. But I did not use this software. Besides that nobody else at my home plays Guild Wars 2 and neither nobody at my home knows my log in on either my computer and Guild Wars 2 account. So, what did happened on my account? What happened on my computer? I deserve more answers. I would also like to know on which IP address, which accountname and which e-mail they found this software called [removed]. I would also like to know if they could detect this software on my new account as well. Maybe I am just mistaken by somebody else.
I hope someone can help me. I am an innocent player. I want to prove myself I did not use any software. It’s been almost four weeks now since I got banned. I have spend every day of the past weeks to get more information. What else can I do to prove I am not wrong? Because of this I feel like I am falsely punished.
Sincerely,
Jolanda (Miilanda)

Hello,
[Snip]
Sincerely,
Jolanda (Miilanda)
You might want remove the name of the software you were accused of using out of your post.
You might want remove the name of the software you were accused of using out of your post.
Thanks for telling me. I replaced it with [removed].
So, by this I want to say “[removed]” is the name of one specific third party software.
Sounds like you shared your account (with boyfriend), which is never a good idea (and is against the UA).
You can post your ticket number in the pertinent Sticky, but if a Lead GM has already checked your account, it might not turn out as you hope.
Good luck.
I guess anet trying to put there selves out of business I don’t know but they seem to be doing a lot of wrongful banning lately and soon people will get sick of it and play something else just saying.
