I had this problem initially after the patch. Tried all documented fixes; none worked for me. After a couple of days, I resigned myself to just trying, once every day, to patch normally. Today, it worked.

There was a recent thread on this and apparently the issue was resolved but here I am still chugging away at that last remaining file. I’ve tried changing the target path name but that didn’t work. Restart never fixed it either. Really really really don’t want to have to re-download it…

Well with this new patch the issue has returned.
I am firstly downloading at 1-5 kb/s
Secondly it stalls at 1MB and stops downloading completely.

Starting with the September 15th game update, all files downloaded successfully except for one. For the next two weeks no matter how long I played (hours) or how long I sat on the log in screen (half a day) it just won’t download that last file.
It tries to download, mind you but it never completes.
So I waited till yesterdays update to see if the New update would clear it. It did not.

No, my client doesn’t crash, It just continues to try to download 1 file all day, every day.
I can play but I have started to get an occasional choppy lag. Not sure if that is the same issue though.

2 files remaining, download dies after it supposedly downloads a single file in the vicinity of 253MB. Once it reaches that file size download speed spikes to 100MB/s and then plummets to 0KB/s and then all download information disappears. Game is NOT playable for me, I’ve had this issue for 5 or 6 days and no item in the support pages has helped much.
Adding -image to the shortcut appeared to work, and it brought me down from 6 files remaining to 2, at which point it ceased to do anything.
I tried all the possible fixes again, none of which helped. Also I have no Guild Wars 2 folder in My Documents, so no local.dat file there, though it does exist in AppData\Roaming but I’m not sure about messing with that one.

Nope sorry Stefan, still have 1 file remaining. Bar is showing 25MB Downloading right now, bar shows 0%. The download per sec keeps going from 0kb/sec to ~100kb/sec over and over…
Unlike Kiro above, I can still log in so it is not interrupting me from actually playing the game but I do not know if it is effecting my fps or ping.

Hey guys.
I used to get this problem a lot, it especially happens to people outside of North America trying to connect to their patch servers. Their patch servers are really notoriously antagonistic towards non-NA connections. It used to be really bad but has been better recently.
Anyway the work around I heard about from before trying to solve the problem is to use a VPN for patching. So I downloaded a free one (today was tunnelbear) turned it on and patched fine, then turned it off.
It should work for you too.

EDIT: Low and behold, within 2 minutes of downloading TunnelBear I get an email from Google saying someone is trying to hack into my Gmail (I dont use my gmail account, so it wasnt me)

VPNs are not necessarily viruses. McAfee is also the antivirus with the most false positives.
There are many legit free (albeit restricted) VPNs out there. So find one you trust enough, you can google reviews on their safety levels.
The reason you got that email is because when you run a VPN it makes your IP different from your registered normal one. So any service that has a registered IP will detect the new VPN IP as a potentially a foreign one or new location. Which is true. You’re not being hacked, lol.

Bad timing to have just thought of installing the client on my Mac.
It’s now downloading at around 500kb/s, but about 6 hours ago it was 0kb/s, with about 50,000 files to go.

I think I have the same or a similar problem! It’s still downloading (for now), but the play button on the launcher is greyed out and un-clickable. This is despite the fact it was working fine yesterday, and the download having surpassed the playable section.

Yeah i can get to the 3 files remaining and the speed just drops to 0. Also in australia. I don’t have a VPN that i can use.
