I only have a short amount of time today to potentially play this. Went for a shower because I was bored of waiting. Came back: New patch. And now this.

It will be at least tomorrow if not later when I can play this now :’(

Finally got it! The last few bits downloaded extraordinarily slowly – it was showing as 0kb/s (the display can’t show fractions or decimal places, obviously) – but I finally have it all.

Shutting off windows firewall got it for me. Still, they better fix this, they update too frequently and I can’t afford to keep my firewall down so often.

Well, mine finally got to 99%. Now it’s just taking it’s sweet time to complete the 4 files remaining. ^^

believe me or not, but after having rebooted the PC it download as intended

Woot, it’s finally got me to the log in window and is downloading the patch. Never saw that error before, I was surprised (good thing I checked here to see it was a global error xD)

Hope it won’t happen again anytime soon though.

Stalled on 1 file remaining! I now have 30 mins left in which I can play.

I would like to give a shout out to ANet in spite of the crash. I’ve been on the side of real time hard down on enterprise networks. It sucks and there’s a lot of pressure. Good work on the turnaround techs.

Finally started downloading and it was all going well, but now it’s stuck at 2 files remaining and it downloads at speeds of 60-400kbps. So far it has downloaded about 60MB at this speed and it’s still going…

Can anyone who has finished downloading tell me how large this download is? I’m at 425MB and going strong…

I seem to be at 532 Mb with one file remaining. Have been at 1 file remaining for 20 mins now…

Edit. Restarted the client and downloaded a further 15 Mb or so for that last file.

Yeah, turns out it was that for me too. Thought it was a bug. That was a BIIIIIG file!

Managed to play the first part. Loving it so far.

Well, for more than 20 minutes, my Down Load stayed at ‘2 files remaining’. I ‘closed’ the DL screen, opened it again and behold, it completed the rest of the dl. YAY! So if you are stuck, I suggest close it out and open it again. I might just need to get refreshed.

Only get to 1% (14MB downloaded) 4770 files remaining and then the client goes down from 3MB/sec to 0 and I get an error.
Been trying to update for 2 hours

If you just use space multiple times you don’t have to type (15chars) all the time.

It’s a frustrating thing that happens on patch days, when everybody tries to log in at once. It was even foreshadowed decades ago by the cinematic gem known as Airplane!:

yeah this isnt fixed… it has be happening the last 3 patches… the download starts at around 50KB/sec should be around 600KB the drops to 0Kb and sits there for 5 or so min the it says connection error(s) detected. Retrying… its kinda annoying as restarting it really doesnt help and nothing else i do seems to matter so not on my side. it took me 3 days of restarting it when i got a chance to dl the wintersday updates

Got the email from ANet today saying “SIGN IN TODAY FOR NEW CONTENT!”

it happened to me the other day. different pc than usual and the thing is happening to me again on the normal computer i use. it usually ends round 500-1000kb range. and i really dont wanna uninstall to re-install it to see if that helps.

A friend tried to log in today (after the patch had dropped but before she downloaded the patch I believe) and got a crash to desktop with the error "Timed out while creating browser context ". She tried reinstalling but now gets the same error when trying to reinstall the client :s

Although she didn’t download the patch, the game was working fine for her yesterday. Could this be related to the patch?

Definitely patch-related. ANet claimed they “fixed it” earlier today.

Yeah, I was looking forward to playing a little after working all day.

Should have expected a server crash around 5pm EST when everyone was getting home.

Yeah, this isn’t fixed. Downloads at a wopping 50kb a second and slowly goes down from there until it his 0kb a second and eventually it times out with connection error. Then I have to start task manager to force close the launcher, because at that point it never reconnects and I can’t close the launcher any other way.

It has been doing this since the last three patches. Using AT&T U-Verse, located in the Columbus Ohio area. My data is likely being routed through Chicago, and I’ve been hearing rumors that the data being routed through that area is being throttled to hell and back.

Although it still drops to 0 and will start and stop I have had better results over the past few patches by going into safe mode with network support and then stating the downloader. The wife and I run the same machines and although I am finished the download she is still trying. The only difference is I did mine in safe mode.

It does not fix the issue but it helps a bit.

This wasn’t short lived ANET. 10 hours after your response that this was short lived and I’m just NOW not getting that message.

Mine still isn’t completing the download. I get to 1 file left, download speed drops real low and then jumps back up. Rinse and repeat. I tried some things I found on reddit to no avail.

I’ve been trying for two hours and I’m done trying. It’s late and I have to work tomorrow. Maybe Anet will have their crap together by the time I try again.

Finally made it to the startup, so past all the error messages i was having after 3+ hours. Ridiculous it took 10 hrs after them “Fixing” it for it to actually work. It’s terrible the errors. Fix what makes the error occurs! It’s a simple idea, but is the solution that hard to fix?

So, has this been fixed or not? I am still getting this message and cannot update or login.

So I’m assuming everyone has had this issue resolved, but a work around would be to release and renew your IP address. I got kicked a few more times afterwards, but everyone was getting kicked earlier.

This is happening to me, though it’s never happened before. I don’t even get to a patch % or anything, just says Downloading X (some minute number) and then trails to 0 after a few seconds and freezes.

This issue is NOT resolved. Since yesterday’s patch, and the one about an hour ago, this has happened twice. The first time, I left it and went to bed, it was done the next day. Now, it’s happening again, and I’ve even tried to do a fresh re-install, and now it won’t download AT ALL.

I’m sure no one is going to even pay attention to this, but hopefully someone will get this nonsense fixed.

same here. it will not download the newest build at all.

The problem is still active. I was playing about an hour ago and saw the in-game notification that a new build was available. I quit the game and restarted to get the new build and it’s been sitting at the “Connection error(s) detected. Retrying…” message ever since.

It’s 9:18 pm EST on Wednesday where I am. I still can’t download the patch from Tuesday, let alone the patch that was apparently made available today; the download just keeps stalling. I’ve made it to 57% and now nothing.
Please ArenaNet, I just want to play some GW2.

Don’t launch the game with the modified assetserv unless you want the game in German.

Beyond what Khani said, if you’re still having issues contact support.

I decided to try reinstalling the whole game again. Whoa. BIG mistake. Now that won’t even download either. Going to call it quits and hope tomorrow is better, but now I don’t even have the game installed on my computer. Blargh. And I still had something to do for the remaining Wintersday left overs.

Haven’t been able to DL the patch for 2 days now, but it seems that whatever back end changes you guys made this morning has fixed the issue for me.
