There must be some lucky players because posting here and all other solutions suggested didn’t work for me, and I was looking forward to play today all week.
I removed the .tmp file just now and GW2 works fine.

It’s an A-net server problem. If you keep trying you’ll get in.
The team is aware of the issues and investigating.
What would help is information about what country you are connecting from, which server are you connecting to (NA or EU), and the full error code, if you have one.

Connecting from the UK to an EU server. Unfortunately not getting an error code with the black screen issue.
I wonder if this was the source of some serious Lag issues I had this morning. Logged in and kept getting frozen in place, nothing else would act odd on my internet connection so I assumed it was the game data feed.

hi to all, today i played without any trouble now “21:13” of 16/06/2013 i can’t connect, is like the client try to download something but can’t (already disable firewall antivirus and any thirdpart program), what can i do now? ><

Edit: It just let me in but seems to be randomly happening between the two of us here.
The above issue with connection errors. NA server, connecting from the USA, Wisconsin.
Clearing the temp file did allow me in to the character select, but I was booted back out of that pretty quickly with more “Connecting errors.” No code obviously given.
Edit: After looking into other things for a while, the client seems to connect of first try now.

DNS flushing didn’t work for me. That might not be the problem
It may not be; I just mentioned it because it seemed to help me the last time this happened. Figured it couldn’t hurt.
To follow up…after a couple of hours afk this morning I returned and tried again, and the game fired right up. It also did just now when I tried so it’s okay now.
If it helps, I connect to the NA server from the USA (Georgia), and had no error code this morning. Just the “download 0/1 KB” for a few seconds, then the “connection error detected, retrying” message.

Connected from Kentucky, USA to Crystal Desert server. Got the download 0/1 KB ‘connection error detected, retrying’ thing a little while ago. Didn’t notice an error code. Restarted the launcher several times and eventually it worked and I was able to log into the game, which is currently running just fine.
Colorado to NA servers. been getting the error for about 30 minutes.
I’m from the Philippines and i keep experiencing this issue. When i get in. After a minute in game, i get this Black Screen + Music blackground. The only way i can exit it from that state is to ALT + F4. Then try running Gw2.exe again. Then that retry connection blahblah kb/s going 1 and going 0 again. It takes 20minutes to get in.
Connecting from UK, EU server. Up to few days ago everything was fine. Recently though, I’ve been having some connection related issues: around 8-9pm UK time a massive lag strikes (behaviour like skill lag in WvW) which usually ended in DC (back to character selection screen).
When this lag occurs, I reroute my connection through Poland (using ssh tunnel) and the game runs fine (minus increased latency from ssh tunnel). This only happens in the evening (roughly 8-9pm UK time), and most of the time connection is fine.
Every single day I get a disconnect whilst in game after around 2 hours play. This happens daily without exception and get the dreaded black screen where I then have to F4 out to even get to my desktop. I don’t have the error to hand (I’ll get it next time for you), but I am connecting to Piken Square (EU) from the UK.
Our engineers have identified what was causing the issue and they made changes to address it. This problem should be resolved for now, but they will keep an eye on it.

i dont know if this is just coincidental but when I forced the process gw2.exe closed from Task manager I got in immediately on the next try…. probalby just luck.

Have you rebooted since then?
Some are seeing that the process to start Guild Wars is sitting in their “task manager” even when the game is not running.
Don’t multiple click on the start if it doesn’t – it makes Windows think you are trying to open multiple instances of the program and that CAN stick the PROCESS not allowing you to get in or even start the game.
Let’s hope this is fixed no matter what the reasons are…

Yup im getting Networks error, failure to a authenticate account or game client was unable to connect to login server error messages. I can get into GW2 after a few trys only to get disconnected within 3-5mins and have to keep trying again. Its not my connection I checked that everytime this happend, even running YT vids in the background without any buffering or connection issues. I dont know what the engineers fixed but it wasnt the login errors…

Ccleaner work’s briefly for me but if I changed character or something I’d be right back in the same place, frustratedly trying to log back in.
For now I’ve had to give up because it’s getting later & later (3:43am) and I’m unable to log in to even get any of the world bosses I need. /Sigh

Same for me.. This error is not on my end, as my internet connection is running very smoothly for everything other than GW2.
Here’s a tip ANet: if you make people pay for your game, let them play it.
How dare you insinuate that Anet is doing this on purpose. It’s childish, unnecessary, and completely illogical.

I have installed and removed and re-installed that game, used all the suggested fixes like turn off fire wall and avg. when i get to login screen it stops on 1 file remaining and 0.00kb to be downloaded. my connection to the internet is working fine, i have done everthing on the forums and still can not play. I live in kentucky that is were i am trying to login from. hope this helps to fix the problem.

after fixed it last night, i get this error popping up again, connecting from jakarta, but when i turned on my proxy it works, weird cuz when this kind of error happened in the past neither my normal connection nor my proxy worked…..
I noticed this one as of a couple of days ago.
For me it’s only a minor glitch so far. Close and restart the client usually fixed it. Once I had to restart the PC to clear it after 2-3 failures.

I flushed the DNS that worked for me, even after restart.
changing DNS server fixes the issue.
I use 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4. (Google)
Most dns can t seems to give route to access servers.
I don tthink this is an issue that requires investigation.
Someone messed up with dns registrations and as they will solve the issue it will take few days anyway for Worldwide dns to update
A PvE player is supposed to avoid a 1-2 second 1 shotting aoe.
A WWW player is considered uncapable of avoiding a 5,75 second aoe for half his health.
I have seen on here that someone suggests changing dns. I am not real tech savvy so how would i do this. I run windows vista 64 bit os. Any help would be great, would love to play the game since i just bought it 6-16-13.
Started getting it about 9 hours ago and gave up trying to stay logged in.. Has this been addressed?
Edit: will try and change DNS now. Also just mention that this bug was affecting website login too.

I am in the US. Nc specifically. Originally got error code 55:11:5:512, then i get 42:1000:7006:888. I recieve both at login

Hi, I was directed to this thread after my GW2 kept crashing shortly after I join the game, maybe ten minutes. This has happened about ten times now, I just transferred to Tarnished Coast from Kaineng, and it’s not crashed before, ever. It just started happening a little before the transfer, actually, though the first crash didn’t get a popup, and my trading post showed up as a big blue and green blotch (Seen here: https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/40581622/gw421.jpg).
Since then, it’s been crashing, even though it appears to be performing fine otherwise.
Hope this helps.
Havent played for awhile, opened today and got the error, disabled antivirus, restarted windows (7, 64 bits), no result.
P.S. Using dinamic IP, server Fissure of Woe.
Changed DNS to Google Public, 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4, did not fix the problem.

I don’t believe this is a Guild Wars specific issue. Several other games and apps I use have the same issue. My system will work fine for several minutes then the signal goes to zero for several seconds. If I’m logged on I just stop moving (very frustrating in a fight). But if this occurs while logging on I’ll get an error. Comcast has had this issue now for several weeks. Maybe “Big Brothers” spy games are now affecting internet quality as well.

I’ve been getting the error code 58:11:5:512:101 quite a bit in the last few days, and at the moment the game will not even start up. Last time I played was last night (~8hrs ago).
