Network Lag [Merged]
Game’s been fine for me until today. My friends in Norway have been complaining about lag the past couple weeks, but I wasn’t experiencing this issue myself. Today it hit me as well. However, a restart of the game resolved it. Then it came back again when I loaded into a new zone, restarting resolved it, etc.—maybe there’s something that bugs out during loading that is causing these extreme latency issues?
Seafarer’s Rest
Same here. lags for a week by now. ping and tracert commands stop at 206.127….. nc-servers.
Country: Russia
ISP: Rostelecom
Server: Aurora Glade
A couple of my european guildies had this same problem, I had no idea what they were refering to untill yesterday and today in which my connection to a-net made playing wvw, pvp, and the marionette event impossible.
Country: Canada
Server: Aurora Glade
A weird thing just happened. I tried to fight the marionette, ended up on an overflow. I had major lag all the time. Then i got to the main server, and boom the lag was gone. After fighting the marionette i decided to go pvp, completely forgotten about the lag. Well, here it was again. How did i not lag in main overflow?
Solo roamer, all classes.
I’ve been having massive lag issues as well as disconnects in every area of the game. Tried to do PvP, WvW, walk around a city, doesn’t matter, started 3 days ago and it’s making my game unplayable.
I can’t believe we still haven’t got any official statement from anet. I don’t mind if its going to take several days or even weeks, but I want to know something is happening and that they really are working on it!
Norwegian here. Just logged back in after a year afk, I have 380 ms too :C
Same Here, EU Gunnars Hold, England. Dc every ten minutes or so ever since the update. Game is now unplayable.
It’s 6:53AM +2GMT from Finland here and no lag at the moment haven’t tested PvP yet. Might be due to low amount of players. Early hours it seems is possible to play without lag at least. After others wake up then not sure.
I got kicked out to logging screen though after playing keg brawl activity and was coming back to Lion’s Arch so defo problem still exists.
Gonna run diagnostics again this day to see what server is causing the packet loss.
Same here. This game is unplayable for me atm. Lag started 24h ago and has been steadily unkitteningbelievable.
Server: Borlis Pass
Country: Canada
ISP: Videotron
To add my voice to this; I haven’t had any lag issues with Guild Wars 2 until this week and now, I’m rubberbanding and missing my timings on jumps and dodges.
Server: Fort Aspenwood
Country: Canada
ISP: Videotron
Ok. 9:51AM +2GMT Finland, Gandara Eu. First day without lag so far. It’s still early so I’m not sure about the rush hour lag.
Still, I’m positive at the moment since this lag was permanent before no matter what time tried to play.
Seems to me like the lag is gone for now. Yay
Been playing for hours without any disconnects today, please let it be fixed!
First day in a few weeks without lag/rubberbanding. Hoping it’s fixed, though I’ll try not to get my hopes too high up.
Yes, no lag here either Lets hope this lasts
I’ve had a couple of small issues, but nothing like it has been. Here’s hoping it’s mostly fixed.
19:30 GMT+2, no lag like it was when this problem was going on. Every aspect of game is working as intented here. It seems to be fixed. I’d love to hear what exactly was wrong and how, whoever is fixing these, did it. This wasn’t just some few hours of lag it lasted through January so something major was going on.
Fingers crossed this’ll last from now on
No lag for me either, and I’m in the middle of when it used to be at its worst.
Absolutely abhorrent lag for me…..
I just got settled back in at school, was looking to do some WvW and i honestly can’t play like this. I can play any other games(league, diablo 3 secret world etc.) with no problems. The delay between me pressing the 2 key and the skill going off is extreme(talking like somtimes upwards of 2 minutes) That makes it completely unplayable.
NA
Sever Gates of Madness.
MadFry
Issues seem to be fixed for me as well. No real lag today.
Perhaps Telenor finally got someone around to fixing the servers? :P
Freyja Yurdjökull – 80 Warrior
Super Serious Guild Number One [SSGO] – Piken Square
Same. Seems like after….2 weeks? I can finally play again.
Not lags today for me. I hope it’s not only today. ))
No latency issues today… (Norway/Telenor customer)
From Finland @ Gandara, haven’t experienced any lag today. \o/
Yeah i thought it was only me but apparently a good majority of players have huge internet/server lag since last patch and thats not coincidence.
No its because some ISP’s are having problems atm. In the EU there is a major issue between france and germany causing major connectivity issues for all traffic coming through there. And in the US, numerous ISP’s are under the cosh atm with several sites being hacked and DDoS attacked.
Me? Not much if any lag on my end atm thanks tot he fact the UK doesn’t route all internet data through france anymore.
I don’t lag in-game and I live in a second/third world where 3mpbs is considered very fast. 1mbps is considered the average.
I’m on South East Asia connecting to NA servers in-game.
I only seem to lag in certain parts of the game. Like the map and some icons for skills and items. Where the rest of the game, actual skills going off and things moving around, are just fine.

This!
It is pretty simple.
If everyone is lagging: Arenanet has serverissues
If only you is lagging: it is your computer/modem
If some are lagging: one or more ISP’s are having trouble.
(I know it is in reality somewhat more difficult, but in 95% of the situations these rules apply.)
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Actually, my lag issues that kicked in somewhere right around the DDoS have started to subside. I think the only time it gets unbearable now is right in the middle of a word event.
Other than those (which can get miserable), I only get the occasional ~150-200 ms delay when turning the character abruptly like over 90 degrees.
I roleplay a nasty belch at that point, hehehe.
Virtually zero lag here, but, I live very close to my internet hub, very good speed I pay dearly for and only a few hundred miles from the servers.

Ohhhh my envy.
Anyway, it’s hard for me to say if I’m lagging more since last patch since I live in New Zealand and 1-2sec delay is pretty much the norm for us. But I have noticed it gets REALLY bad at times where it hasn’t before, not sure if it’s just my internet playing up or the patch.
can’t log in, Extreme latency, pretty much unplayable, anyone else..?
it’s definitly not on my end too.
You say that, but fail to provide any usable and valid information.
Firs thing to do is log into GW2 and issue /ip. Then in windows Command Prompt issue
tracert x.×.×.x <- that would be the IP address from /IP
then post the output here.
That is the ONLY way to being to troubleshoot Lag/connectivity issues.
Laptop: M6600 – 2720QM, AMD HD6970M, 32GB 1600CL9 RAM, Arc100 480GB SSD
It’s not your end and your not alone either, Trade Portal is offline intermittently, there is extreme lag and other players on Piken Square also experiencing the same thing.

oh man please, this issue has been going since release…
occasionaly some huge lagg just appears.. server wide.
If you do not want to provide the BASIC information NEEDED to even look at the issue for you, then please just go away.

I used to only get slight lag in world events or in a zerg, now in al dungeons or places that have player population lags me after the ddos attack, I don’t know why and its bothering me to the point where I almost don’t feel like playing anymore. At first I though it was my computer, so I defragged, ran virus check, cleaned out computer to find it didn’t help. Then reinstalled os and gw2 and it still didn’t help. Gw2 team better do something about it because I know ALOT of people in my server of gates of madness are experiencing this.
I haven’t had any issues with DC’ing, but I’ve been seeing alot of people who have and its almost immediately apparent once you see someone running into a wall or the like. Its rather uncool, especially if said player is a party leader in instances. =/
Interesting, seems people are noticing it . anet won’t tell us why its happening and how we can get it working again. I’ve been getting a couple lag big lag spikes where nothing will happen for like 10-20s then it’ll be fine again, usually when fighting bosses (>_>). Thus far I’ve only DC’d once, though. I’m using a 95/80 wired connection.

here. reason i didnt provide anything is due to the fact i’m well aware of how long this issue has been in the game. and this thread served more as a heads up than anything else.

Your having TX issues with Level3. From LA to you, the Latency is 150MS-250MS. So while your Trace to plaync.com is low 21ms~, from the US to you its 150ms-250MS.
You should contact your ISP and have them open a Transport ticket with level3, explain that traffic from the US to you (going in your direction) has high latency.

Your probably having the same issue, But since your ISP has a direct connect with Cogent (I cant trace you through Level3) I can’t give you a 100% certian answer. However, even through Cogent you have the same response times as the other poster.

So basically ran a ticket and they responded super fast saying im suffering from some sort of packet loss, and should contact my ISP. I mean, I’m at school so that’s really not an option. So I guess I’m just gonna wait until someone else really finds the problem and fixes it. Kinda sucks to be honest
Interesting, seems people are noticing it . anet won’t tell us why its happening and how we can get it working again. The problem is that I do believe its not an issue at arenanet.
Officially you are responsable for your client and your home router.
Arenanet’s server is technically only a client as well. All they need to garantee is a working internet connection on their server (capable of getting the workload).
To simplify the situation.
See your connection as a letter. You are responsable to put and dress on it and a stamp and give it to your local postal service to deliver it. Anet is the reciever, they need a local postal service and a mailbox that the mailman can put letters in.
It is your local postal service that is responsable to deliver your letter at areanet. you are paying them (through that stamp) for that. If it fails it is their fault.
In this case your local postal serbice is your ISP. They are responsable for a working route to the arenanet server and that is what they are not delivering at the moment. The simple fact that way too many service providers dont take that responsabillity doesn’t mean it is Anet’s fault. They do not have control over the route you take to their server. The only party that has control over that is your ISP.
Arise, opressed of Tyria!
Then I ask once again, why did it just start after the patch? before the patch great, after patch bad. My regular internet and other internet games are the same just GW2. My VoIP phone works fine even when GW2 is hogging all the bandwidth, but for some reason GW2 doesn’t work great anymore. I will leave it at that and see what people say, hopefully it is my side, I will plug a different computer in on my side and see how its working if I’m having the same issue then I will have at least isolated it to something beyond my computer. Either ISP or GW2. i will update once i have done so.

The simple fact that way too many service providers dont take that responsabillity doesn’t mean it is Anet’s fault. They do not have control over the route you take to their server. The only party that has control over that is your ISP.
It is so much more complicated then that. With your USPS analogy, you can just call your Local post Master to file a complaint about any of the other Post offices involved in your failed Delivery. And you will get a postage refund.
You cannot do that when the internet has such a failure. First, you or your ISP has to have a SLA transport agreement with partner carriers that maybe having connectivity issues. 98% of the time this is not the case. And when they do, they have to agree with each other to do head to head testing to isolate the issue. Getting this done is like pulling teeth MOST of the time.
Then you have over subscription issues on top of that (ISPs over selling their Main Uplink to the Backbone/LEC, causing over saturation….Or a fiber Cut that reduces the Over all BW to a continent.) .
I believe the current issue is based on Europe. I can see that the Transmit from US to Frankfurt is having issues. But the Transmit from Frankfurt to the US seems to be clear.
You can verify my findings with another post I replied to.
Now, this means that there is either a over subscription going on, Due to a DoS Attack, or cut fiber as Frankfurt has 40Gb/s going into the country on dark fiber. Because of this the latency is becoming higher then normal. The Internet adopts to such issues with routing changes to the direction of said Packets. And it might redirect to a less then acceptable path (like over Level3, instead of Verizon for example) to accommodate the Bandwidth issue(s).
But, that is not even the biggest part of this. Someone that has a contract with the affected carriers are the ONLY ONES that can set to resolve the issue. NCSoft only has a contract with their directly connected ISPs. And Their ISP’s are not LEC/L1 providers. they are resold. So their SLA contracts between themselves and their link partners are limited. So, quite honestly, there is nothing that NCsoft/Anet can do to fix this issue as its not sourced from the US nor their Data centers.
Someone that has an uplink to one of the affected backbone providers has to open a ticket and get the issue resolved. As the Issue sits between them and NCsofts Servers.
BUT, it doesnt matter what I say. All these people with connection issues, who really dont understand how the internet really works, will just point fingers back to Anet demanding resolution or refunds.
