I played GW2 since the Beta. It ran completely fine, it hat it problems with Lions Arch and Big Cities, but eventually after the Release i was getting about 30-40 FPS on Ultra.
Now since maybe 2 Weeks, the game is nearly unplayable. I didn’t change anything on my hardware besides a new faster and bigger hard drive.
But even on everything low i’m getting 8 fps in Lions Arch!!
Now i just wanted to try a new character, so i started a new sylvari, and i’m getting 8 fps on “Autodetect” wich is everything on high and native rendering.

My Card is the HD 6970 from Radeon (Latest Drivers)
CPU is the AMD II X4 965 Processor @ 3,4Ghz
Windows 8 64-Bit Pro
8 GB RAM

I just ran the Heaven Benchmark from Unigine, and i’m getting around 40-50 FPS, so it surely is something with GW2. Is there any fix to it?
EDIT: One strange thing, in the Super Adventure Box i get about 40 FPS on Ultra.!
And in Instances, even when nearly nobody is around, still only 8 fps.
EDIT2: Even in a small Window, i’m only getting 10 FPS. There surely is something wrong. I even deinstalled any Antivirus and the Windows Installation is only 2 weeks old.
EDIT3: Cpu is not even really used. It just goes about 20-30% Usage. GPU is on 98& though. Even on low. kitten?

Check to make sure you don’t have a process called iehighutil.exe running on your system.

It’s a virus that’s undetectable by most AV’s, and it pushes your GPU to full utilization at all times. It could definitely be playing havoc with your system.

The game doesn’t happen to be on this ‘new bigger faster hard drive’ is it? If it is, try tossing the game back onto the hard drive you were playing on from beta and disconnect this new drive. Maybe it has something to do with this new drive that is interfering with something.

1) There is no such Process called “iehighutil.exe” , the GPU is only at 98% when actually INGAME, else it really idles around 0-1%. Also i’m pretty sure i got no virus, the system is only 2 weeks old, cause of the new drive.

2) It is on the new hard drive. I just booted from a old hard drive where it used to work just fine, again just 9 fps and waaaaaaaaaaaaaay longer loading times.
I also tried running the game from another harddrive that is not my boot drive, still only low fps.
This is really sad, since i just got time for some playing, but it is really impossible at that framerate. Every other game works fine. And even the Super Adventure Box works fine at 50 fps on ultra. But i can’t be playing the SAB the whole day

Have you checked the temps? There may be some throttling in your system due to overheating.

Nah no overheating, CPU is at 50 C° and GPU is at 56°C

So you are having low fps issues only in guild wars 2? I’m running out of ideas tho. Btw by any chance you changed gpu slot while you were changing your disk drive? And also check your power settings it may be screwed and downclocking your hardware.

Well, yes it’s only GW2. I just ran http://unigine.com/products/valley/ on Extreme, and i’m getting an avgerage of 35 FPS. – 55 When not Benchmarking.

EDIT: Even after overclocking the GPU, it’s still exactly at 9 FPS, what the fudge??!?

Still having issues… And i’m seeing alot of other people having sudden FPS drops too. It even seems that it is something AMD related.

This is truley a wierd problem. As you point out, it seems to stick at about 10 fps whatever you do. And just like you, everything is working fine. Good temps, correct drivers, working without a hitch one day but totally unplayable the next.

I dread the day my “main” computer (also running a AMD-card) does this and I will be unable to play GW

I’ve had this problem too, but not on an AMD card. Runs at 10 FPS even on lowest settings, even though I usually get 30-60 on the highest (non-Ultra) settings. Computer restarts and client repair haven’t fixed anything. Updated drivers, nothing. 50%ish cpu and memory use.

I dunno what else to try…

PCI express bus issue. Very common. The PCI-e port where u have plugged the videocard is either dusty, wrongly seated card, or wrong PCI-e port (non x16). Dwonload GPU-z check for the PCI-e bus speed, ikt should be: “2.0 x16@ 2. x16” anything different will give u crappy FPS in GW2 even while every other app will run perfectly

Sorry but no,
1st off, this is certanly not very common
2nd – I swear on all the narwhals in the world that my computer is working to 100%

(3rd but unimportant, the difference between the x4/8/16 PCI-port speeds are bearly noticable; http://www.tomshardware.com/reviews/amd-crossfire-nvidia-sli-multi-gpu,2678-kittenml)

This is clearly some kind of bug or compabillity problem that strikes AMD-cards

It is a very common issue, all this previous post prove it. ALSO NOT EVERY GAME IS THE SAME, GW2 is particulary Bus speed dependant. Again running at x2 BF3 will perform just as well as x16, GW2 in the other hand will be at 5-10 FPS, AMD cards has no issues with the game i have 3 high end AMD cards hd 5970, hd 6950 hd 7950 none ever had any issue in GW2, also own 3 Nvidia Cards gt 9800, GTX 550ti GTX670, no issues running any of them either.

i have alredy try everything “fixing”, but nothing works.. Adventure box i got fps 180 and now it is 29-30.. :o what happened?! Don’t know…

My computer spec: AMD FX-8350 ~4.0Ghz, memory 12gb, Nvidia Geforce GTX 670

Let’s go your way then and assume that it’s a PCI-e lane problem.

How come, GPUZ (and all other software) says that my lanes are fine? (x16). And you dont need to worry about dust, I just hade the card out a week ago while I was spring cleaning.

But even more interesting, how come the problem resolved itself when I re-installed my drivers? (Yes, the exact same drivers I had)

Sure sounds to me like it’s a driver/compatibility-bug.

are there anyone who have fixed that fps drop problem? I have now try everything what i can and fps i still low.. maybe i make a video what it was playing when this game work “good” fps and how this works now.

I even notice that, when i change graphic settings ultra to low there is no change to fps at all. when i stand still it is 2 fps higher on low settings than ultra, before this problem i used to play ultra setting and GW was working fine, but now because of this fps drop problem, i will stop playing until i find solution to fix this.

i think i found my problem for that fps drop. I run 3dmark program and notice that my processor core speed is only 1571.1Mhz and i’m using that AMD FX-8350 ~4.0Ghz.

i check it that CPU-Z program too and that show also that Core speed is only 1571.1Mhz, so what is problem and how to fix that?

Heya, I’m having the exact same issue. Ironically I also have a 6970 also, running on a i5 2500 cpu. Have always sat at 80-90 fps on max settings, I cap it at 60 and vync etc. I reinstalled windows 8 two days ago and that’s when my issue began, although I don’t have this issue on other games, only Guild Wars 2.

To my solution. Uninstalling Catalyst and the drivers then reinstalling fixed it, but a day later, back to square one with the issue. I’m just going to sit tight for a gw2 update, hopefully it’s just a bug, like the one they had with the texturing lines on the 7xxx series cards.

Kartzaz up there found the core issue of this specific problem/bug.

GW2 severely underclocks the processor!

I first exchanged my Dualcore Phenom II 555 for a Quadcore PhII 965, and where the 555 ran at constant max speed, 85-95% on both cores, the 965 barely ever touches his max 3400 Ghz on any core. Meaning my FPS got WORSE!
The GPU has always been rather sleepy in this game.

Though my FPS never got this catastrophically low, they still are barely around the 30ies. This is definitely a client bug and it has been known pretty much from the start.

I´m about to upgarde to Intel, but when this bug again shows up, I´m outa here.
Probably for good.
