It’s not the PvEers that bug people, it’s those PvEers that do. They’re the types that run their PvE commander tags alongside the WvW commanders that actually WvW’d before that very day, so there’s a whole glob of commander tags at the same location.

It’s the types that run with a zerg that see one lone thief and decide to all run off after it.

It’s the types that act belligerent and wonder why they (or anyone else) should follow a commander at all. After all, they’re just there for easy achievements.

In short, it’s not the PvEers that people dislike. It’s the people who would be unpleasant in any format, but since they’re now present in WvW in such large quantities, are easily picked out, and aren’t afraid of expressing their opinions about those folks that don’t understand how much more lucrative PvE farming is, well, they sort of all get clumped together.

In short, it’s not the new players, it’s the dolts who are too ignorant to know how little they know and the fact that they don’t care to learn. After all, in two or three weeks, they’ll be back to farming for ascended crap or whatever Anet adds next on the gear treadmill (presumably, ascended armor).

OK yanno what, I may as well say it.

I suppose I’m kind of a PvE-er. I usually pop on for a dungeon now and then, and do my dailies all the time. The season is actually the first time I was in WvW in MONTHS.

But yanno what else? I’m not a scrub. Sure I haven’t played in ages, but I DID play before. I joined in the fight, I helped on EB, and after I got the four JPs I went out and went back to doing the same thing I did way back in those days.

Watching camps and escorting yaks with speed buffs.

Because SOMEBODY has to make sure those supplies get to the keep quickly and those camps actually upgrade.

And SOMEBODY has to alert when a small squad is taking the green camp. May as well be the Staff Guardian who feels useless in the zerg and not too useful against towers and keeps unless I’m on a ram or a cata.

Now stop taking the camp’s supply when it’s at 99/100. We need to improve the supply deliveries.

Just saw this and felt the need to respond to it.

Staff guardians are probably on par with or better than elementalists on water attunement when it comes to support. If you run GS as your second weapon, you also have incredible DPS. Guardians are one of the core zerg classes in WvW due to your buffs and tankiness.

Also, camp supply is there to be taken. Rarely do I see camps with more than 60 supply, unless my server is absolutely owning the map and the camps have just sat there untouched by the other servers.

I was about to start on staff guardians, then saw the post above.
On topic, the issue I see is not PVE-ers in general. I would probably count as a pver myself, playing WvW about 20-30% of my time.
But a lot if not most of the players we are getting now (especially the first day) are just the living story achievent chaser/pinata breaker type of player. They are not a decent example of a PVE player or decent players in general. A good PVE player would at least be able to solo/duo/trio a camp or kite a buffed supervisor without dying in 5 seconds, not to mention they would be able to recognising the need for strategy and following instructions – they do it in 5s in dungeons, why not here. But the losely and randomly placed train that was mass roaming the maps on saturday was not able of either.

Advance apologies if anyone is offended by this description. I would love to see more PVE players venturing into WvW and would be glad to help with the little I know, but not this type.

Ps: Chessrook, if you are on sfr, give me a shout.

And they will leave once said achievements are done. Like I said earlier, they have had a year already to try it and like it. Adding achievements isn’t going to change this.

So they’ll leave at the end of season 1… just in time for season 2 achievements to come out and bring them back!

Let me try to give an anologie to best i can:

You (the wvw adict player) are working in a computer repairshop as volunteer. After learning how to do this you become skilled and enjoy yourself with your also skilled co-workers. Then on a good day the boss decides to advertice in a well read paper and website.
All hell breaks loose: your flooded with customers (PvE players)wanting a repair/fix. What would you do then? complain endlessly about the fact you have so many customers that there is a queu outside the store? Or do the best you can and keep your eyes open for more volunteers? Does your boss really need to tell you to keep your eyes open? Don’t you think your boss is blind to the fact that there are queus outside ?

Just thinking random thoughts, have fun.

False analogy
If the wvw player is a volunteer, then so would the pve player.

A closer analogy would be
wvw – repair volunteer
pvew – flyer distributor

The boss already has 5/5 repair volunteers (meaning he can only have 5 at a time). Boss adds benefits for being a repair volunteer. Suddenly your flyer coworkers sign up for repair duty. Due to a random selection process 4/5 repair guys got delegated to flyer duty. Now that 1 guy actually making repairs is over loaded cuz the other 4 don’t even try to do repairs.

The business suffers because it is performing 80% slower.

And the Q your boss isn’t blind to isn’t a Q of customers, it’s a Q of volunteers aiming to receive the benefits he advertised is given to repair volunteers.

Yeah, like putting ram down in front of our tower when we came from supply to repair the gate. It was built in a blink of an eye, too.

Actually my second weapon has been scepter/shield (Because shield has some more defensive use, and scepter gives me range and control, snaring guys trying to run. Though I’m starting to have second thoughts since that snare always seems to be blocked, evaded, or missed…).

And sorry Silver, I’m on TC. Woots!

I’m a pure pve player and I usually detest any form of pvp but the I got tempted into wvw the other night (mostly for the ap yea). So I joined a party of some people from my alliance and have to say that I enjoyed it better than I would like to admit. I did offcourse gear/trait on of my 80’s for wvw and looked up viable builds, and honestly didnt do too shabby in zergs or smaller 5v5 battles. Its not like I was actively looking wich achievements I still need and ignoring everything else. I genuinly had fun, mostly due to beeing in party and mumble with people who play wvw alot more often though. Even had most fun in the smaller battles since the big zergs are kind of a lag fest. And since we won most smaller encounter I’m probably doing something right. Offcourse I could have just been encountering other people like myself the whole time I was in wvw :p

They didn’t come to help the server when there were no rewards worth mentioning and no attainable achievements. PvErs aren’t going to stay after they’ve farmed the latest flavour of the month.

My exp with pve’rs and wvw:
A few weeks ago we were in a match up with SoR, they had all of EB. There were only eight of us on EB, so I went to LA and asked for help. The response I got was “what happened, did SoR beat you and your buddies up, break your glasses, and steal your pocket protectors?”. That was actually kinda funny, but what wasn’t funny is that NO ONE came to help. So I know there might be some converts, but for the most part, screw them and their WvW achievements.

That was always the case. Map completion, skill point challenges, JPs. All this is there for a reason. Which is, I’m guessing, to get the new blood to WvW, however small is the percentage of people who would stick and “get” WvW as a game mode.

And I couldn’t even start going about how outlandish are ideas about prioritization etc.

Seasons may be slightly different in rewards, but at the end of the day all WvW gives as a material incentive is:
1. A number assigned to your server in a list of servers
2. WEXP
3. Loot, currencies, AP
4. Power of the Mists

Don’t you find it amusing that latter two work as well for PvEers as for PvPers and (1) is of questionable value to any given individual? Only (2) is clear WvW-only incentive.

For those who are really into WvW as a game mode the process itself is at least as rewarding as (1). Call this one (5) if you wish.

You cannot impose your views on how the game should be played on others. Only game mechanics can. They clearly show and were always showing that WvW is a sanbox where anyone is free to choose which particular incentive(s) are interesting to them, to go after them, and no particular incentive is “more important” than other.

The best approach here imho is inclusion and respect, from all sides. Work with your community, your fellow players. No, i didn’t say that’s easy. Ask Vizunah, they would tell you a lot about it being pretty kitten hard but in the end rewarding for all sides.

Most recent example here of great way to go about it is this:

Ditto. Even though my prior post was harsh against pve’rs, we all started there. That being said, you’ll find the wvw community much more helpful, with very little elitists compared to pve. I read about the dungeon/fractal elitists booting, scorning newbies all the time. I have never been treated badly in wvw. Never.

You know, if there was a kick option in WvW, the same crap would happen. I myself hate that. in FFXIV, they won’t let you kick people out of dungeons, and that is how it should be.
