Your build is exactly what I ran, with some variants in Utilities. I absolutely loved the spec and felt that it had a good balance of burst vs sustain through Monk’s Focus. If DH ended up getting that 25% speed boost that everyone keeps asking for, would you suggest any alternative Runes?
“Runes of the Scholar, Runes of Rage(for the extra damage with fury), or even Runes of the Flame Legion”
As I mentioned in a previous reply
Scholar would be awesome for long range dps from the side in a group fight, Rage would let you burst a bit harder right after using a meditation, and Flame Legion would give you a total of 24% increased damage on an enemy if you land the spear of Justice as it would apply burning to them repeatedly and work in conjunction with Fiery Wrath in Zeal and Big Game Hunter in the DH traitline.
You can also run Runes of the Ogre for a 4% damage modifier and to be a wannabe Ranger with the Rock Dog spawn xD
or Runes of Lyssa if you feel like you’re having trouble with Condi builds.
Awesome, thanks for the info! Sorry, I must have overlooked the previous reply, but I appreciate the repeat answer I definitely look forward to trying these once HoT releases.
I’m curious: did any of you feel Sigil of Rage was beneficial on the LB? I kind of liked the spontaneous nearly-instant True Shot that comes with the random quickness. It was so satisfying to pull off, but I’m sure it’s not the best for consistent damage.

I’m all for revamping the Tomes into a Consecration or Spirit Weapon instead of Signets/Shouts. If the game is being rebalanced to have more consistency across the board, then these two skills being included in existing skill categories is pretty sound.
I kind of get where other people are coming from in being attached with the Tomes. But I personally never liked the Tomes to begin with.
I’m quite interested in this. I’ll be sure to request a join later.
I would have to agree. Not sure how solo q’ers like myself will ever stand a chance against premades in the state of the game.
Water and Air are my two usual go-tos. It should also be considered that Air is the only ranged Elemental. I’ve used Air in many cases to secure stomps which is also nice. Also keep in mind that Earth can cause Weakness, and Fire can grant Might (although these skills aren’t controllable)
I’m convinced that ArenaNet is tunnel visioned in their design process and do not actually implement important, NECESSARY, feedback. Gauntlet is content that, yet again, forces Zerker meta. And rather than being something fun where I get to kill things and get decent loot that I can’t get anywhere else, Boss Blitz has turned into something that spawns frustration amongst ourselves. So Anet, bravo for wasting our time, and proving once again that your reputation of disappointing players with frustrating/boring content is unrivaled.
I agree with everything listed. It’s unfortunate that Ranger’s ranged attacks ALL count as missiles, which is so frequently blocked, dodged, and reflected. If Read the Wind allows LB and SB to pierce, almost insta hit, and bypass missile reflects, then I think it would totally make up for all of our past QoL struggles. But once again, Anet has stoked the fire of the Angry Ranger mob.
As much as I will want to capitalize on Zephyr and LR for the Condition cleanse and Fury, I feel like a huge part of my Ranger play has been using Nature’s Voice. Perm Protection and frequent Regen from “Guard” has proven essential in keeping my pets alive (I prefer dogs over bears). I can’t see myself choosing between the two, which is unfortunate, because the two combined would’ve made for some good tanking potential!
I’m really hoping they decide to move the new trait to a Master trait instead (or vice versa).
I’m really happy this kind of discussion is finally happening for the Ranger! Too long have we been the short end of the Profession ladder… This thread has encouraged me to make my first post!
Anyway, I think this concept of “becoming” something else is interesting, and on that note I want to give my input on the discussion of Spirits. What if Spirits were PBAoE auras instead of summoned adds? This would result in a kind of “typical-MMO-support-Bard” trope, I know… But wouldn’t this alleviate the issue of having Spirits die in melee, which is such a huge niche in DPS Rangers at the moment?
It could work similarly to Warrior’s Banners where your moveset will change depending on the Aura, forcing the player to choose your Spirit wisely. This would, in turn, work similarly to Elementalist’s Conjure Weapons. [Nature Magic VII] would then release the Spirit, allow them to function the same as they do now, thus freeing up your Weapon skills.
Orpheal posted something similar that I just saw~ much more in-depth than me!
